History:
Birthplace:Darmstadt, Germany
Family: Milo and Ilsa Lowe (parents, deceased), Angelika (younger sister, deceased), Hilda (younger sister, deceased), Karolina (wife, deceased)
Friends:Antonia, Veikko, Theora
History: Richard was born the eldest child and only male son of Milo and Ilsa Lowe. He was always protective over his younger sisters and did what he could to help educate them when he came home from his studies (as women in his time only received the bare minimum of education and were then taught 'womenly duties'). He wanted them to be smart, and know things of the world, so that they'd never be taken advantage of or tricked by a husband (not believing any man to be good enough for his sisters).
Richard was married at 20, and although the two tried to start a family, his wife was unable to carry a child to term, having lost 2 babies, early in pregnancy. He was fond of his wife, but never loved her, as that wasn't a prerequisite for marriage. They were a good match, he provided for her and she kept house and cooked for him while he worked. He never thought less of her for her inability to carry a child, though he had wished to have a family.
Richard was an avid scholar with a love for the arts, sciences and history; a trait which would be carried over to his vampire life. The vampire who turned him was a woman named Crina, hundreds of years old, in search of a mate. She lucked out and somehow managed not to kill him. She trained him through his newborn years, and after discovering his desire as a human to have children, went off in search of creating the 'perfect family' for him, sure that it would make him love her and stay with her. The Volturi caught wind of her attempts to create an immortal child (failed attempts, having not known when to stop when feeding on a child), and they had her destroyed.
Richard went on to live life in isolation as a nomad until the 1850s when he met Antonia, the first woman he would love in his life. Before that he spent his years traveling the world, viewing the architecture and latest art forms of the different areas, as well as tasting the different nationalities along the way.
He had found his way to England in his travels. It seemed a rather uneventful time to him, until he started following a woman to feed on her. He was about to make his move, when Antonia had spotted him and convinced him to leave the woman alone, someone he would find out was a descendant of hers. Luckily there were enough other available victims for him to feed from, so he allowed himself to be persuaded by the beautiful vampire woman.
Something about Antonia had Richard intrigued from the moment they met, despite her aloof attitude after he agreed to leave her relative alone. The two spend days talking, hunting and getting to know each other, the attraction between them growing. Before she leaves, she reveals to him she's with the Volturi, and invites him to visit or come back with her. Being wary of the Volturi because of his past history with them, and knowing their capabilities, he turns her down, and the two part ways.
It didn't take long for Richard to second guess his decision. His attraction to her remained even after she left, and he couldn't get her out of his mind. He decided that maybe it was time to give the Volturi another chance. He followed after her and surprised her at Volturi, and made his intentions known that he wanted to stay. With Antonia's help, he became a part of the guard, even without an ability. He saw that the Volturi did value the same the beauty of the arts in much the same way he did, gaining respect for them.
