It was refreshing for Joey to actually be able to talk to someone who wasn’t constantly berating her work or her career plan. Her parents would prefer her to be in a job, any job, that brought in money. Her father would probably have her married off like some brainless high school drop out if he had his way. But Joey was neither, she had finished High school though College had never been a financial option and she was certain far from brainless. Talking with Noah was like a breath of fresh air, finally someone who understood what she wanted and where her brain was going. “Then it’s lucky I enjoy my work very much.” she smiled remembering how much she did enjoy it.
Laughing with Noah was easy, it was more like an old friendship then a new working relationship. His laugh was a pleasant sound and one Joey heard herself joining in with easily. The mere mention of her idea been an invention sent her laughing again at the very thought of the mental image it created. “Maybe I’ll just do a write up on the fabulous new invention and save the real stuff to the more creative.” She said relinquishing the work willingly.
Even if the store had been open forever Joey knew she had never been inside, using money on things as frivolous as coffee was not her style. Though now she was inside talking with Noah she wished she’d visited before for something other then begging for work. “My family and I have been here about that time too, though we love out of town.” She explained with a nod, although Forks wasn’t the realtor dream, houses in the town’s boarder were certainly a little out of their price range. Following his eyes and though pattern Joey nodded, “I don’t mind it, so long as I don’t have to cycle in it.” she said watching the droplets run down the window.

Noah found himself able to talk to this girl quite easily. Most people weren't on the same wavelength as he was, with his thought process not always going in the most normal lines. He found her conversation engaging and her presence welcome, surprising to how he may have thought a week ago if he considered the idea of hiring on someone to bus tables. "If you enjoy your work, then it doesnt matter how anyone else rates your success, you've already won"
He laughed as they discussed her joke of an idea for a new invention, aware that most people would probably be surprised to hear him joking with anyone, as they didnt understand much about who he was. "That may be the best idea afterall" Noah agreed as she suggested saving the inventing to others.
He listened attentively as she described how long she had lived here, and then mentioned her family being out of town. "Is it a very far ride for you?" He asked, wondering just how far out of town they were. He hated the idea that she'd have to come too far just for his little job. He wasn't offering her much and was sure she could probably find something better closer to where she was. He was sure Forks even had more glamorous jobs than this.

Talking and laughing was not how Joey had imagined a job interview or even a job’s first day to go, Noah was easy to talk with and certainly put her at ease. If every day was like this then Joey was sure to enjoy the work and the company, but she wondered how the customers would be. “Do you get mainly locals in here? Or tourists too?” She asked knowing that as far as regular tourists went Forks was scarce, but the trails and woods certainly kept the area flooded with hikers and nature enthusiasts. The natural trails was something she was considering doing a piece on to show the diversity of her writing skills for potential writing jobs or college courses.
“No no, its about a 30 minute ride depending on the wind, but I like to ride. Certainly healthier for me and the environment then a car.” She said with a smile and shrug not wanting him to think she came too far or that the ride was too much trouble for her, she needed the job and really did enjoy the ride.
Moving across the kitchen Joey started to put away the dishes as she dried each one trying to look at where everything went and memorize it for ease later. The china was so unique and very interesting that she had to comment. “The cups are so cool, are they a local designer?” she asked wondering if maybe Noah himself was a potter as well as a artist.

Noah didnt know how to play the roll of the boss in a job interview which was why this was surely seeming more like a get to know you chat than an actual interview, though he hoped to at least appear somewhat professional. "Mostly locals...the occaisional tourist that comes to Forks thinks its a nice quaint shop for lunch, but I dont think the town gets many in general." He said trying to think. There wasn't any big draw to the town that many people would come visit, maybe the woods and the beach.
"Riding is fun, and you're right about good for the environment...its one of the things I like about the Vespa" He told her. "If the weather's ever too bad, don't worry about riding in through hail or anything, you can just stay home if you like" He said, knowing his transportation wouldnt offer much more protection from the elements should he offer her a ride. "Or if its getting late I can take you back sometimes too"
Noah gave a glance around the cafe, making sure there was nothing else he needed to be doing right now while she started to put away the dishes. He turned to her and gave a light smile as she complimented the cups. "My attempt at pottery...didnt turn out as well as some of my other works, but the functionality of it makes up for the imperfections"

It was true, Forks was hardly a tourist hub, but she could see how people would stop in to the café for lunch. “It is a nice spot for a warm drink and friendly conversations, that’s for sure.” She smiled highlighting the positives she’d seen since coming in. “Maybe the tourists are drawn by La Push, it’s a really traditional over there.” she said remembering the handful of times she’d been to the rez and first beach.
Joey knew she’d come in regardless of the weather, she needed the money and the escape from home. “Thank you.” She said gently with a smile. She didn’t want to have to go into the reasons why she’d be in regardless of the weather, nor to explain why it would be best if he didn’t drive her home.
The irregular shapes and design added to its charm. Joey turned a cup over in her hand and admired it. “Not all my literary works work either. But they all have a purpose.” She smiled setting the cup down and leaning against the counter. “You’re from Forks?” She asked.

Noah smiled as she mentioned his cafe was good for a warm drink and friendly conversations. "You're already selling the place" He said, thinking that at least she gave off a good attitude about the cafe. He had never really cared much about making a huge profit from the shop, it just paid his bills. His customers enjoying themselves was more important, as was the funding for his own passions.
He nodded at her suggestion that maybe the tourists came to LaPush. "Probably that and the hiking they have around here. " He said having not tried it himself, but thinking maybe it would make a good muse for him on a day with good weather. He gave her a nod of you're welcome as she thanked him for telling her she could stay home if the weather was bad.
Noah smirked a bit as he watched her looking at the cup. Most people never gave it a second thought but she was really attentive to detail. "It doesn't look like it was mass produced in a factory but it still serves its purpose" He told her, then shaking his head. "Not originally, I grew up in Port Angeles, but when I decided to open up my own place, I got a better deal here...but I like Forks now that I'm here. "

At his reply Joey laughed openly feeling comfortable and happy there, knowing it was going to be a good, fun place to work.
“I haven’t been there yet, but its somewhere I’d love to visit. I’d like to write about the people and their culture.” She mused out loud thinking about how beautiful she was sure it was. “Have you been?” she asked wondering if he’s painted there or not.
Liking Forks wasn’t something Joey ever thought she could really do, to her it was more of a stop gap to make money to go to college. “Yea I’m from out of town too.” She’d been to Port Angeles a few time for hospital trips with her dad, but that was the extent of it. She set the cup back on the counter. “Is there anything else I can do?” She asked moving the subject from personal lives.

Noah smiled hearing her laugh. It was good to see her more relaxed. He didn't want to turn into the type of boss who his employees (or employee as this was his first and probably only to ever have) would have to be afraid of or nervous around.
Noah nodded as she asked if he'd been to LaPush yet. "Yes, it really is beautiful there, and the people are very friendly from what I've seen" He told her. "I was there about a month ago, trying capture the view of one of their cliffs on canvas, but its still unfinished upstairs, I think I'll have to go back and see what my memories are missing"
He nodded as she said she was from out of town too, not pushing her for more information on where and why she came back. When or if she decided to tell him, he'd listen. He looked around as she asked if there was anything else she could do. "You can check and see if it looks on we're running low on any supplies, coffee filters, expresso beans, syrups...they're all in the cabinets against the wall. When we're on the last bag of anything, I like to write it down to order more from the grocery store. "
