Theora sat stock still her eyes closed and her face relaxed. To a human passer by perhaps she was sleeping, except where she sat there were no humans, not living ones free to roam the corridors as they wished. And vampires didn’t sleep. Theora had always thought it to be a wasteful activity, something she didn’t miss at all.
In fact Theora was very active, despite her outward appearance as she sank in the dank hallway of the Volturi’s inner lair. Her eyes laid closed, but she was seeing everything, at least everything she chose to see and watch. As a child her mother had told her it was rude to spy on those who didn’t know they were been watched. Of course, when she was a child her mother had no idea what her gift truly was nor did she.
Now, though, Theora wasn’t watching one particular person, or vampire, her eyes were scanning past other guards and humans outside of the walls. As she let her mind’s eye wander she saw the guards training, feeding, and passing time. In the human staged office of the outer lair she watched the latest receptionist file her nails as another group of tourists were lead past her. Fresh meat, the very idea of a new banquet lit Theora’s face with a bright smile.
Tourists were a legitimate way for them to feed without drawing attention to what they were and what they did within the walls of the ancient city. A few tourists going missing were the least of the local police worries.
With her eyes still closed she didn’t pay any attention to the approaching foot falls that echoed down the hall towards her. It wasn’t a main hallway, but it wasn’t exactly tucked away either. Instead of opening her eyes, Theora let them wander once more around the compound that was her home as much as anywhere else.

As Veikko quietly walked down the corridors of the Volturi headquarters, still getting accustomed to the layout of the enormous structure, he moved with the grace only posessed by his kind. He didn't move any faster than the speed of the typical human, not because he thought he might be spotted by one of them and was trying to blend in, but rather because he was in no rush and taking his time in order to fully appreciate the beauty of the architecture around him.
Turning one of the corners inside of the gigantic building he spotted one of the other guard, a female, sitting in the hallway, with her eyes closed. She didnt seem to be in any pain but appeared to be concentrating on something greatly. He looked around and didnt spot anyone else that she was currently with.
A smile appeared on the male vampire's face as he decided to introduce himself to the woman, always happy to meet another guard, holding a very high respect for them all. He walked over to her, stopping a foot or so away from her, not about to invade the personal space of a woman he just met. "You seem to be concentrating on something...anything I can offer my assistance with?" He said politely, his light Finnish accent hovering over his words.

As each foot step echoed off the thick stone walls Theora let her visions wander more focused this time. She watched the corridors rush pass the familiar sights of the castle she and the other guards resided in each pass moving closer to where she sat. Theora didn’t wish to open her eyes and let the other Vampire know they were been watched, no she preferred the stealth approach of her ability.
The figure turned a corner in to the hallway where she was seated, so close now. Theora knew if she opened her eyes she would see him at the end of the hall coming ever closer, but she didn’t need her eyes to see her ability worked just as well. The person approaching was a man, a vampire, but not one she remembered. She switched views and was rewarded with her first look at his face. He was handsome and held himself in a way that spoke of status. His intensely pale skin, like hers, was accented by his dark, deep set eyes and framed by his long dark locks. Theora wasn’t one for infatuations or dalliances on members of the opposite sex, but this man would have taken her breath away had she had any.
Her visitor smiled as he approached her and she smiled in return as he spoke waiting till he finished before finally opening her eyes. He was a few steps from her and she was able to take in his full form, tall and sleek. Her eyes traveled over him before she spoke. “I was merely watching, but I’m done now. Thank you.” She smiled lightly appreciating his offer of help but knowing he could do little, this time it was more of a way to pass the time then an actual task. His accent intrigued her and Theora wondered why she hadn’t met this man before, meaning to change that now. “I’m Theora.” She said letting her own Greek accent coat her words.

As Veikko stood beside the crouched woman, he tried his best not to loom over her. The last thing someone should want to do was cause a vampire, a volturi guard at that, to go into fight or flight mode because someone got to close. With vampires, it always seemed to be fight. He looked at her with interest as her eyes remained closed a moment more, and she smiled as if in reaction to him before she even opened up those eyes to look at him. Interesting He noted to himself, beginning to wonder if she was one of the guards who held additional abilities.
When she spoke of how she was watching but she was done now, he smiled a little crookedly at the thought that she was watching while appearing to see nothing. "You're welcome...but how is it you watch without seeing? Are you a psychic?" he asked her with peeked interest. His species was ever amazing to him.
He smiled once more as she offered her name, hearing the pleasurable accent to her own words. "My name is Veikko, it's a pleasure Theora" He repeated, offering out his hand, to either shake or to help her up, not that she needed it.

Her gift behave so strangely, though after so many years she was used to it. When Theora watched she was able to see what she focused on as if she were in the room, never through another’s eyes; always just observing as if there. Now as she looked at the scene in the coridor she saw herself and the handsome man who stood over her, she saw it all form a third person’s point of view. He gave her space, he didn’t loom or encroach on her personal space; a gentlemanly trait she noted immediately. Everything she noticed about him gave cause for her smile, but she didn’t let it grow out of control; more of a simple small smile.
With her eyes open she regarded him and caught the crooked smile he regarded her with. It was a look of interest he gave her, but she didn’t smile back she merely looked on him with interest too. The Volturi only inducted gifted vampires into their ranks, one who could bring more then their eternal life and youth and not Theora found herself wondering what this foreign gentleman offered her masters.
Theora found herself smiling again as he posed his question, yet this smile was one of smugness. She knew her gift was unique, something she prided herself on. Her gift made her a standout from others and that was something she was very proud of. “No.” she said plainly. “I’m not psychic, but I see things. Not the future or the past, I see the now and not just the here.” she said honestly knowing it may seem a little cryptic, but it was all the truth. Oh to think she was psychic, what use what the future to her and her masters; knowing the now was something you could act on and alter. Futures changed.
“Veikko.” She repeated with a nod as she took in all she could about him. Memorizing such information such a smell, sight, sound about a person enabled her to find them whenever she wanted; it was harder with out the basics. His accent and name set him apart and Theora wondered where such a sound and name could be from though she didn’t ask, yet.
His hand was offered and she looked at it without taking it. Instead she rose alone and stood straight facing him and looking at him deeply for a few minutes, time was irrelative to their kind. “Pleasure.” she said tilting her head to the side her face neutral. “Not yet, but maybe. Perhaps we should walk a little. It’ll be dark soon.” she said openly, but she didn’t move away from him yet. All her words were a game of sorts with an invitation, Theora knew she wasn’t ready to let this one out of either of her sights just yet.

Veikko could see the mutual interest in her eyes as she looked back at him. She was obviously curious about who he was, or perhaps just why he was here and talking to her. Perhaps the other guards knew to stay away, or maybe as a whole they were just a rather unsocial group.
The smile she gave him as he commented on her gift showed him how proud she was of it and confident in it, whatever it was exactly. It was as if whatever she could do, she believed to be better than a psychic ability, or at least more useful. His look became even more intrigued as she began to explain what she did. He had never heard of anyone being able to see the present. "That's fascinating...can you see anywhere?" He asked, genuinely interested in hearing more about it.
Veikko liked the way she pronounced his name, the way it sounded in her voice and accent. He watched as she looked at his hand but didnt take it. rising on her own. After a moment he moved his hand back to his side. He gave a simple nod as she suggested they walk and commented on it getting dark soon. "Very well" He said agreeing as he started walking.

Watching this new comer Theora could feel her interest grow, she wondered how she’d missed him in her previous views of the castle. It was unlike anyone to generally approach her, as in life people, and now vampires, were weary of her and her gift. Among the Volturi guards Theora mainly put it down to worry about her seeing their true deeds and telling what she saw to their leaders. In truth she had far greater things to watch then what a guard maybe doing with a local or tourist beyond the walls. Though this one she would watch now she’d met him. .
As she explained her gift Theora felt the familiar pride in it wash over her, no matter what her mother had said she always took pride in her sight. When Veikko asked about it she could hear the interest and that made her smile little more. “Anywhere I choose and anyone.” She said holding her head high as she spoke. She was not boastful of her ability, but she would never deny its uses. “Though it is easier if I know who I am watching. A past meeting with them, or if I’ve been to the place I am asked to look at. A connection to place or person strengthens the sight.” She told him not seeing it as a flaw in the gift, but merely a loop hole.
When he moved his hand away Theora wondered if she should have taken it, afraid that now she may have offended him or given him the wrong idea. Infact she’d wanted to take his proffered hand, but didn’t want to seem more forward then she truly was; or show any weakness. Walking side by side Theora again wondered how she’d missed him in the castle before. “You’re new to us, to the castle I mean?” she asked stealing glances as they walked the corridor. “What brings you to us?” Now it was her turn to be intrigued.

Though other Volturi guards may have avoided Theora and been weary of her extra ability, Veikko was completely fascinated by it. He could have spent endless hours just watching her use the power and asking her about it, finding out every detail of what the experience was like for her. He would have loved to have a gift like that of his own, but it wasn't jealousy he felt, just awe and wonderment. He respected anyone who could do things even beyond the extra abilities they were all gifted with as vampires. He knew the Volturi was filled with those types of vampires, he was really one of the odd ones out here, but he had proved himself to the three, his loyalty had earned him a spot in the group with the power.
He listened with intense interest as she explained about how her gift worked, and answered his question. "That really is amazing" He responded as she said how it could be anyone anywhere. "I'm sure that's very useful around here, to yourself and the rest of the guard. " He said impressed.
Veikko nodded as she commented on him being new to the castle. He assumed that they didnt exactly send out a memo announcing new 'hires' so to speak to the guard, so most of them wouldnt find out until he met them or they were on assignment. "I am new, I've been invited to join the guard" He told her.

His approach certainly made a mark on Theora, she was so unused to been approached that she doubted she’d forget this man’s presence. She knew once they parted company it would be hard to keep herself from been drawn to watch him, so few interested her as he had. Even without orders from the masters of the castle he would be someone she’d check in on occasionally or perhaps more often.
Amazing, it wasn’t a words she was used to hearing in regard to her ability. In life she’d been told it was evil and a burden, and now she was told it was useful and convenient; she thought it amazing. “I know, thank you.” She said with a half smile. “My gift is my vocation here, though I rarely use it to watch the guards. Our leaders do have me view the less abiding ones of out kind both her and beyond. The rest of the guard is of little interest to me personally.” She ventured with honestly and a touch of boredom in the mention of them, they rarely did anything interesting to watch.
“Of course you accepted.” She stated without so much as a questioning tone, Theora had never heard of anyone live who had refused entry to the illustrious Volturi Guard, though she knew the occasional idiot or renegade had been foolish enough to try. Hearing that he would be staying around, assuming him to be far from stupid or foolish, Theora felt her interest peak even more towards the stranger.
“Well welcome to the castle Veikko.” She said with a welcoming tone letting her fading accent brush every word. “Have you been within the walls long? I know I haven’t seen you before.” She stressed the word imply she didn’t mean physically though now she had she would compare her other vision to the physical man.

Veikko returned her smile as she acknowledged that she knew how amazing it was. It was interesting to him to hear that she rarely used it to watch the other guards, he would have thought the leaders would have used it often to keep the guard in line and monitor for any potential uprising within the group. "Who do you usually end up watching?" He asked, wondering if she just scanned the world for vampires to pick up on mistakes or waited to hear from the others of specific ones to look for. Either way it seemed like a difficult task picking out anyone like that.
His smile turned into more of a grin as she said how of course he accepted. Though it wasn't a question he gave a silent nod in confirmation. "Thank you" He responded to her welcome to the castle, wondering if he should feel honored that she gave him a welcome, thinking she probably didnt offer that to all the newcomers.
"I havent been here too long yet, still getting accustomed it" He told her honestly. He was new but he intended to make his stay lengthy, soon he'd be used to it and know all the ins and outs of both the castle and the Volturi.

It was a question no one ever asked her, usually she was ordered to watch or not to watch certain people or places. In truth unless it was the leaders, she rarely paid attention to anyone else’s orders. “My mind’s eye wanders. Occasionally I see my old home land, or those I’ve come in contact with before.” She nodded not caring what he thought of her spying on the general populous. “I’d never watch our leaders or those closest connected to them. Or those lacking any interest.” She smiled pointing out that she only wanted to watch those of interest.
There wasn’t exactly a welcome party for those new to the Volturi, but she felt it polite to welcome him; especially one so handsome. “Welcome.” She nodded without the smile, but there was no hostility in her eyes.
“This order isn’t something to be accustomed too. Those accustomed usually falter, don’t let that me you Veikko.” She offered as a hand of acquaintance if not friendship. ‘Will you stay?” She asked for her own curiosity more then for information to share with Jane or the masters.

Veikko nodded, listening with interest as she explained more about her gift. He didnt worry about the possibility that now that she had met him that she might have her eye wander to watching him. He knew he wouldn't do anything to get himself killed for and actually was a bit turned on by the idea that she might be watching him at any time. "Do you have a block that you put up to keep yourself from watching our leaders? Or just divert your attention should it drift there?" He asked curiously, not caring if he was intruding with his questions.
Though Theora may not have smiled as she welcomed him, Veikko's lips had a light smile to them, giving a slight nod at her Welcome. He was enjoying her company and was thinking there'd be more about this place that he'd like than he'd expected.
"I never falter" Veikko responded quickly and without any doubt to his voice or mind. He was confident he could handle himself and already felt he'd proved himself to the leaders in obtaining an invitation without any special gifts. She then asked if he would stay, and he gave another nod. "Yes, I plan to be here a long while"

How could she answer that? For a moment Theora wondered if he was testing her, trying to find out if she watched their elders. Had they sent him? “I would never watch our Leaders. They are in power and to watch them would be an intrusion on my position with in this clan. I suggest you keep your nose, ears and eyes away from things which are solely their business.” She warned with the same off hand words she’d flirted with. “My attention does no drift, I focus to see what I wish to see.”
A smile danced on his lips and it fascinated Theora as to what he could find about been in Volterra as happy or amusing. His smile was mesmerizing as she knew their kind were meant to be, but they were few that could capture another of their kind. The allure they held was for their prey and she was determined never to be his or any mans prey.
“In our lives a long time can be a blink of an eye depending on who’s eye it is.” She said casually though she already felt herself wanting him to stay a long time to their eyes. It was dangerous for her to grow attached, attachment in her human life, what little she remembered, had brought little but pain. “Have you seen the castle?” She asked without realizing she was going to ask that, but already she was preparing herself to show him around the grounds wanting to spend time with the stranger.

Veikko wondered if he was hearing a bit of a defensive tone in her voice as she answered his question about watching their leaders. He hadn't been trying to interrogate her, but was just curious by her gift, however her response showed him how much she still feared the leaders, even after having been here awhile. She was smart to not let herself get complacent.
He smiled at her response and gave a nod. "Their business is their own, it is not my place to get involved unless they ask for my service" He said knowing that much already. "It's good that you have such control over your gift"
"As far as my eye can see at the moment, I see no reason to want to leave" Veikko told her, letting her know he had no plans as of yet to leave in the future, but knowing that occasionally the unforeseen happened and there could be a change of heart. "Do you plan to continue here longer?" He asked her, wondering if maybe she was just passing through. He shook his head in response to her next question. "I was out trying to get a feel for it now, but there's a lot I have yet to see of it...if you had some time, perhaps you could give me the insider's tour? I mean I wouldn't want to stumble into someplace off limits"

Control was something that poured through her veins like the blood of her victims, however she was known to let it slip. Curiosity got the best of her occasionally, but never would she admit it to anyone. “it is good that I have such control. A lack on control around here doesn’t help the person last very long.” She said with an even tone, she was merely stating a fact not passing judgment. ‘However, a case of too much control can be just as bad. it’s a fine line to tread.” She smiled teasingly. The man before her was handsome.
His words to anyone else may have meant little more then what they said, but Theora look the terms of them differently. It was not a foolish whim that she rethought the words, more a different understanding of them. Seeing to her and a normal Vampire were two very different things. “As far as my eye can see at the moment, I see no reason for you to leave either.” She said with a more flirting smile. Though her words were true and she knew if she looked about the castle she was sure to find little reason for his departure.
“I’m here as long as our leaders have use for me and I have no intentions of making myself useless to them.” She said with a tone of certainty. Theora knew that there were few gift among their kind and fewer gifted with sight, the only other she knew was a clairvoyant living with a coven in the Americas. Every seer was different and therefore unique.
A tour would mean more time together and that was certainly something Theora knew she’d enjoy. “You have time now?” She asked knowing she had no plans other then a little dinner after dark. “I could show you the castle and the best places to eat afterwards?” She offered politely but also looking forward to time with the new stranger.
