(after The Morning After - Mid Eclipse)
Now that they were away from his sister, after the awkward moment that had ensued that morning after Matt had found Leo and Issy together in his room (and her in one of his shirts to sleep in). He wasn't the type to want lie about conquests to make himself look like more of a man, and even if they had done something that night, Leo knew he would have been a gentleman and been more respectful to Issy than to go announcing it. He wished there had been a different way that his girlfriend and his twin would have met, but it was over now. He hoped that Matt believed him, and that Issy wasn't angry for what had happened. But Leo was also worried about how much of the night before Issy remembered, he clearly remembered being inebriated and letting slip that he was a wolf, though obviously that hadn't been the way he'd wanted to tell her, nor did he think that she believed him as it wasnt really a serious conversation. He knew now that he had to tell her everything.
Opening the door for her as they stepped out of the house, Leo just wanted to get away for a bit, but he wasn't ready to take her back home after the way her father was. He'd never want her going back there if he had the choice.
"I was thinking we could go somewhere to talk..." He said quietly, still not sure how she felt about the night before (remembering also how upset she had been about his lack of being there for her when he should have) or this morning. He wondered if she was still feeling hungover from the drinking too. "Maybe to the hot springs" He suggested thinking it would be someplace private that they could talk, and where he had taken her on their first date. He hoped that once he told her everything she wouldnt be freaked out and want to leave him.

Isabelle couldn’t think of a single positive word for the situation they had been in a few minutes ago. Instead she looked to the pair of jeans she’d thankfully packed away in her duffle bag with her plain white fitted t-shirt. She had slipped them on rather quickly in the upstairs bathroom, in an attempt to run from s newly disturbing situation. First she had run from home, now she was running from Leo’s, she hoped her life wouldn’t always involve running, or escape.
The girl followed behind her boyfriend with her head down in shame. She was silently praying that she wouldn’t see his parents, this wasn’t how that whole experience was supposed to go. She bit her lower lip and felt the heat in her cheeks as she walked out the door as he held it open for her. Her arms were crossed in front of her, a defensive posture, and she wondered if her tent was still out there. She pulled the straps to the large duffel bag higher up onto her shoulder. It was heavy, and felt awkward to carry with such a small frame, but determination drove her.
“Sure,” Isabelle said shortly as she rushed past him and out the door. She wanted to crawl under a rock, now his sister was bound to think she was some sort of whore. “I-I’m sorry,” she said as she made her way down the steps, pausing a moment to wait for him. If he wanted to talk, then there was no use running away from whatever was coming. Maybe a serious talk about why she couldn’t stay with him, and he’d make sure she went home. Shame he didn’t know she’d never go back, not with him there. Her ears rung a bit every time she spoke, “Springs, sure.” She brought her finger nails to her lips, trying to resist the nervous urge to bite them.

As Leo held the door open for Issy, his mind was already preoccupied with attempting to figure out all of the things that he had to tell her, about what he had started to tell her last night, about making her feel less uncomfortable with the situation that had just happened with his sister, and to make her understand that he would protect her from the horrors that had lead to last night.
Because Leo’s mind had been distracted, he hadn’t even noticed that Issy had the duffle bag slung over her shoulder until after she passed by him through the doorway. As he followed after her he reached for the bag on her shoulder. “Lets just leave this here, okay? We don’t need to take it with us” he said worried at the reasons she was already taking her bag with her, it felt as though she just wanted to get away from him after the embarrassment he had put her through. He wondered if she was feeling the anger towards him that she had initially felt when he had shown up in the woods the night before. He knew he had made mistakes that he had to make up for.
He was relieved that she had agreed to at least go and talk with him and wasn’t just insistent on leaving from his sight. “Sorry?” Leo questioned, wondering what on earth she felt she had to be sorry for. “I’m the one who should be sorry. I didn’t think that Matt would have found us…I never meant to make you feel uncomfortable…lets just leave the bag and go talk…okay?” He said gently, not wanting to upset her further.

Isabelle couldn’t help but let her mind wander on what was to come. Maybe he was planning on telling her she brought too much drama to the table and just wasn’t worth it. She couldn’t blame him, then again maybe she should just break it off and save herself the embarrassment. Her heart hurt just thinking about it, she felt immediately void of feeling. Maybe she owed it to the people she knew, even Quil to rid them of her personal woes. Not that Quil knew much about what went on at home, she was too embarrassed to tell him, and when Quil was around her dad, the old man never acted out.
But Leo, he was getting to know more and more about the situation, without Issy really meaning for it to happen. Isabelle slowed as he tugged at the strap on her shoulder, always the gentleman. She sighed unable to speak…it was like the empty feeling of what was to come was gnawing on her heart strings. Yet, Isabelle allowed him to take the duffle bag, she would just have to come and get it later. She only hoped she could find her new home in the woods from his house.
“I’m sorry for,” she paused unable to spit out the words and uncertain as to what she should even say. “I- I can find my way back to the tent,” she lied as she mustered up her courage. “I didn’t mean to embarrass you, I really hoped she would have liked me,” Isabelle told him turning to look away as tears welled up in her eyes. She blinked them back and buried her face in his chest instead. She basked in the warmth, dreading the moment he would pull back and tell her he was done. Tell her he couldn’t help her, and no one could. That she was as she had felt before meeting him a shadow of wasted space…

Leo was glad that she had allowed him to take the duffle bag from her. It gave him hope that they could resolve this, that she woudlnt run from him . He knew he had to tell her everything but hoped she'd at least stay long enough to listen. Maybe having her bag hostage would give him a chance to make her understand, though he felt guilty using it in such a way.
"You have nothing to be sorry for Issy" He told her once again, as she struggled to even find something to apologize for. He knew deep down she had to know none of this was her fault, or at least he hoped she did. " No, you're not going back there" He said shaking his head firmly as she spoke of being able to find her way back to the tent. "I'm not letting you live out there by yourself like that, its not safe" He insisted, hating even the idea of her sleeping out in the cold, on the hard ground. He should be the one sleeping outside like an animal, he was one, not her.
"Iz...You didnt embarrass me" He told her. "I embarrassed you and I'm sorry if my actions made her think anything less of your virtue" He said trying his best to respect her, and fumbling with even how to say it. " I dont think Matt doesnt like you, she just isnt sure what to make of this yet...but she's not quick to judge, she'll get to like you, I'm sure of it" He said hopeful. In a mere moment her head was buried against his chest. His arms went around her pulling her towards him. "I'm never going to let anything bad happen to you again, with your father or anyone else...and I'm going to make sure Matt understands last night too."

She heard him, but didn’t believe him. Of course she had things to feel sorry for. Like the simple fact if she hadn’t gotten drunk, and then gotten him drunk she wouldn't have this massive head ache or have embarrassed the both of them in front of his family. More precisely a sister he spoke so fondly of. She could just die, crawl under some tree roots and rot away. That’s what the moment called for. She looked up at him as he said her small tent in the woods wasn’t safe. She knew that, but in her mind it was safer then with her father. She pointed with one finger to the gash above her brow, “and home is safer?” she asked him her voice catching slightly. She refused to cry right now.
His words were comforting, and the prospect that he still wasn’t leaving made her heart warmer. Like the sun had finally moved from behind the clouds to rest its luminescent gaze on her. Isabelle bit her lower lip and moved just slightly to look up at him. “Promise?” she asked him. She suddenly realized he had in fact intended on them going somewhere, and that sounded better than her getting caught by his parents outside their home with their son and a bag in hand. She stepped back but netted her small hand into his to maintain the connection. “Sorry again, where did you say you wanted to go?” she asked him. Attempting a very weak smile.

Leo felt an immediate surge of anger as she pointed to the gash above her brow, speaking of home and reminding him of the pain that her father had caused her. The pain he had failed to protect her from. He clenched his left fist at his side, keeping his emotions in check knowing that phasing right now would not be a good thing. "No it's not, and you're not going back there" Leo told her. "You can stay with me til we find you someplace safer" he told her, knowing he'd love to be able to just offer her a permanent home with him, but hoped that in the future that wish would be more possible.
Leo nodded as Issy looked up at him, questioning him and looking for reassurances that he was only too happy to provide her. "I promise you" He said confidently. He'd move heaven and earth to keep her safe. Her hand in his was a good feeling, much better than the sight of the bag on her shoulder as she wanted to leave. He wondered if she had forgotten about the things he had said last night, or just didnt believe them, and that was how she was able to so easily hold his hand. Wouldnt she see him as a freak when he told her what he was? He gave a small smile back at her as she asked where he wanted to go. "I just suggested the hot springs, someplace quiet...but if you have someplace you'd rather go, I dont mind..." He told her, knowing they just needed to be alone while he told her.

Isabelle said nothing, a nod seemed appropriate enough though. Besides what could she really say? “Um no, the Hot Springs are fine, j-just don’t make me go home,” she reiterated. It hurt to even think about it, but if he tried to trick her into going back to her father’s there would not be any way of getting her back to the Rez. She would simply have to run, and keep going till she found some place far enough from the memories and recurring nightmares. Or the mere prospect of being woken from her sleep only to get yelled at, or hit depending on her father’s drunken mood swings.
She looked over her boyfriends shoulder and back down at the huge duffel bag he was still holding for her. “Maybe I should grab my suit then?” she thought aloud. She wasn’t sure how Leo’s parents would take a new visitor in the house. And it was probably safer to somewhat wash up while she had the chance, just in case. Worse came to worse she had some pocket money that she had taken from her father’s wallet. She could buy a new sleeping bag and tent, this one of course would have to be new and bare a manual. Maybe she could even trick Quil into helping her build it, make him think a night of camping would only be one night. After all they barely seen each other anymore, which lowered the chances of him asking a million questions.
Issy smiled at Leo, but it held a touch of sadness. She didn’t want to be without him, ever. But it seemed the more and more they got to know each other, she just wasn’t good enough for him.

It was tearing Leo apart to hear how scared and distraught she was, pleading with him not to make her go home. "Iz, I'm not gonna make you go home, in fact I'm not letting you go home near someone that would hurt you like that" He told her, knowing he could never actually force her to stay if she wanted to leave, but he would protect her as well as she'd allow him to. It was not only his job but it was all that his heart and soul wanted to do right now. "You'll stay with me til we figure something out, or until you're sick of me"
He saw her looking back at the duffel bag and worried she was going to take off, that she didnt want to be around him. He felt the panic that she remembered his drunken words, telling her all about being a wolf (and not at all in the way he wanted to tell her). He was sure she must either want to get as far away from him as possible if she believe it, or just think him completely crazy (not even counting the embarrassment he caused her that morning). He then heard the reason she was looking at the duffel bag. "Suit, oh, umm, yeah if you want it" He said not sure they'd even be there long enough to get in the water. He just knew the springs were usually empty so they'd have privacy for the conversation he knew he could no longer avoid.
He saw her try to smile at him but knew there wasn't happiness there, not after all she'd been through. "Issy...I know I said it yesterday, but I'm just so sorry I wasn't around when you really needed me. I didnt mean to go that long without calling you or coming over...I should have been there"

Issy let out a breath, a half laugh at the thought of tiring of him. “Yeah, that’ll happen,” she began to say before pausing only to begin again, “maybe you should check with your parents first...I don’t want to impose, or be the talk of the town for that matter. No one can know that he h-,” the girl took a second to rephrase, “where this came from,” she said with a quick point to the gash above her brow. Not like she didn’t have other bruises, matter of fact if this had been a week ago she wouldn’t be so willing to put on a bathing suit in front of Leo. But he knew now...and there was no reason for hiding the black and blue marks one on her torso, from her trying to close the door and being to late, the door handle had made its impression. But it was healing. One on her upper arm, and one at her wrist which she’d been coating with concealer for a few days.
“Don’t,” she said looking him in the eye. “You’re my boyfriend Leo, not superman, I can’t expect you to always be there. And to be honest I’m starting t- to worry I depend too much on you. No ones perfect.” she said wishing she actually believed that. Because Leo, he was perfect. But though looking in the mirror she saw a pretty face in the reflection, her life was anything but pretty. Except for when she was with him. Without Leo her life would be meaningless and empty. She wasn’t looking forward to that day. After all fairytales didn’t exist, and one day he’d find a girl with less baggage. A girl who was confident, smart, AND beautiful. Someone worth while. But that day, wasn’t today, and she could be thankful for that.

Leo gave a small smile when she expressed her disbelief at growing tired of him. He hoped that would be true and knew he would be devastated should she decide she had enough of him. "My parents are cool, they'll be fine...I'm sure they'll make me sleep on the couch instead of sharing the room, but its fine, you'll be safe" Leo said knowing he'd do anything he could to convince his parents to let her stay as long as she needed. "And no one else on the rez even needs to know you're staying there....and if they say stuff, who needs 'em " He said dismissively, knowing others opinions didnt matter to him nearly as much as hers.
Leo's hand instinctively curled into a fist at the side of his body away from her as he tried to control his temper as she spoke about the bruises and injuries that her father had caused. He really detested that man and wished he could just go beat him to a pulp, see how he liked the feeling. Truly though, Leo knew if he went after him, the chances of the man getting away alive weren't all that good. Leo tried to calm himself down, knowing getting upset would only scare her further, something she didnt need from him. He hated that he even had the potential to be so angry and violent himself, and knew he didnt deserve to even be around Issy.
"You can expect that I'll be there always, or at least you should if I was a good enough boyfriend" Leo said knowing that he had let her down. He frowned as she said how she thought she depended on him too much and that no one was perfect. "You're perfect and I wish I was even halfway good enough for you "I want you to depend on me..."

Issy didn’t say a word she only nodded. He was saying that his parents would be fine with it. But she didn’t want to get her hopes up, and she didn’t want them to think their son had knocked her up or something. Maybe, if they did chose to let her stay she should tell them the truth, and beg them to tell no one. At least than their son wouldn’t seem so suspicious. He was right about the people on the Rez, not like she had any friends anyway. There was no one to impress, at least no one but Leo.
A small shy smile escaped. She didn’t know why he had such strong feelings for her, but she knew he did. “Forget the bathing suit,” she said looping her fingers into his. If his parents said no, she’d have plenty of chances to wash up at the hot springs. Today she’d scout locations for her tent, just in case. “I trust you,” she said simply. He wanted to talk to her and she really didn’t want to be there when he asked if she could stay. So she wanted to leave ASAP.

Even though she didn't say anything Leo could see the reluctance on Issy's face as he tried to assure her that his parents would be fine with her staying. "Hey, if you'd rather I can always talk to Matt about it, have her ask about you staying over with her, as a girl friend "He suggested, wondering if she'd feel more comfortable with that situation. His parents knew that Leo and Issy were dating but they might still believe that Matt and Issy could want to spend time together.
Seeing her smile, even a small one, helped Leo to calm down immensely. The anger he had been feeling towards her father started to subside, if only because he was distracted in the moment by his feelings for her. It still amazed him that he now knew why he felt so strongly for her. He smiled back as she voiced her trust in him. "You can always trust me" He assured her.
Holding onto her hand he walked at a slower pace to make sure he wasn't causing her to hurry to keep up with his larger strides. He started leading her towards the path leading to the hot springs they had gone on for their first date. He hoped the privacy would help make this conversation at least a little better ."How are you feeling? Did you want to stop for coffee or anything?" He said thinking he should have remembered to offer her some at the house before they left.

Matt seemed nice enough, but Issy had only just met her. So she felt like it would be a lie to have Matt ask, it just didn’t feel right. Maybe she was just too honest. In her mind the girl fought for a few seconds over the idea of a comfy warm bed and Leo always by her side versus maintaing an image to his parents and just camping out in the woods. Yeah it would get cold, but what if it made his parents hate her...what if Matt got annoyed by her always being around. Worse yet, what if Leo did?
“I Know,” she said simply, because she did trust in Leo. He was just about the only person she knew she could confide in.
“I uh, I’m okay. I have a bottle of water and some granola bars in my purse she said tugging at the strap to the tiny book bag purse she didn’t often part with. It had been something she had become rather accustomed to, having emergency food or snacks in her purse. She never knew when she’d have to run from her father, or how long it would be till he knocked out and she could sneak in for food or climb up to her bedroom window.
“You seem tense, is everything alright?” she asked as she tried not to fall behind. After all Issy was quite vertically challenged for her age.

Leo saw Issy's hesitation as he brought up the idea of asking Matt to help cover for them and could tell already she wasn't liking the idea, but he knew he'd have to try to convince her to stay at least until she found a safer place to be. Leo knew in the future he'd want to get a place with her that they could stay together. And while emotionally he'd love to now, he knew he couldn't afford one while in school so getting her to stay with him at his parents' house for awhile was the best he could do. He just couldn't imagine letting her sleep outside again or worse going back to an abusive home. The last option was out of the question in his mind. "Please just think about it...let me try to help"
"Okay, but if you get hungry or want something else let me know, we can take a detour, I've got no place else to be" Leo told her, knowing it was a good thing that he wasn't on a time limit for this conversation. If he actually got the nerve to come clean and explain everything, he knew it wouldn't be short. He wanted to be there to give Issy any answers she wanted, and hope that she wouldn't be frightened of him and run away.
Leo turned to her as she mentioned him seeming tense. She was as good at reading his emotions as he was at sensing hers (at times). "Yeah...I guess last night is just still on my mind. I still wish I had been there earlier, and hate that I wasn't around for a few days" Leo said feeling the guilt, but also knowing his memories of drunkenly telling her he was a wolf were making him anxious. "I don't think I should have drank so much either....do you remember much of the night?" He asked her, wondering if she remembered his drunken words and how much he had to go on to start explaining himself.
