{...tag Garrett...end of Breaking Dawn...}
The battle, or preparation for the battle with the Volturi had been one of the most stressful and scary experiences Kate could remember in her whole existence. Kate knew that if anyone walked away form the battle that they expected to ensue then it would be a miracle, or punishment. To walk away when your coven and so many other perished would have broken her and she knew many of the others would have felt the same.
Walking away without a battle was a relief rather then the anticlimactic feeling she’d often anticipated she’d feel walking away from a battle. Her mind buzzed with other feelings and thoughts other then the relief for all involved. Her mind was focused on Garrett’s words before all the talk and explanation started. The man she’d grown close to in the pasted few days was stood mere feet from her, her whole body aware of his proximity to her. She’d wanted to reach out to him even before he spoke, her desire to be touching him to take and give comfort in the touch, but she’d resisted. After his words were spoken the urge was stronger and it was only her concentration on the coming violence that stopped her reaching for him.
As their would be attackers left, vanishing back into the woods where they’d come from Kate watched as the other witnesses moved and dissipated too. Her own family moved off, as did the Cullens Kate didn’t follow. She turned to the man beside her, the man she knew now she was in love with, but she wondered if his words were true or said in the passion of battle. Turning to look at him, shirtless and shoeless as he had been the first time she’d seen him, now she found herself smiling a laugh brimming in the back of her throat. It felt as if the laugh would let loose all her pent up feelings on the situation, but she held it back a while long still feeling anxious about Garrett’s words.
“Walk with me? We should see they completely leave the area.” She suggested moving off as the Volturi had done, but at a slow pace waiting was Garrett to draw level with her. “Your vow before….” She said letting her words trail off. Kate wanted to give him a way out, to tell him she wouldn’t hold him to rash words said in anxious times, but she couldn’t make herself say it not when she wanted his words to be true.

Garrett was still experiencing a bit of an adrenaline rush over what had just happened. They had faced the Volturi and gotten them to back down. The underdogs had won! Even more than that, Garrett believed he played a crucial role in getting them to listen, before just going straight ahead and acting. Even if he had not contributed to the Volturi's decision, he knew that he had reached some of the other nomads. He had shown them the dictatorship that the guard was trying to run, and gotten them to open their eyes to the unjust system that was in place. Perhaps sparing them all the fight was merely a way for the Volturi to save face, knowing they had been exposed even to those who had come to witness on their own side. Either way, Garrett felt pride for his actions that day. He had been a good soldier.
Despite the excitement he had felt, feeling as if they had all been victorious over their unjust rulers, and had stood up for the rights of the common man (or vamp as the case may be), he tried to tone down his excitement, knowing this had not been easy for Kate. She had lost Irina, one of her sisters, something that he knew could not be easy for her. Most of the group began to slowly leave the area, going off with their families or covens, but Kate remained, so he did as well.
She asked him to walk with him, he nodded, also thinking it was good to make sure that none of them headed back this way, though with Alice Cullen here again, he was pretty sure they wouldnt get that sort of surprise. "I'm sorry about your sister" He said sincerely, moving to walk by her side. He looked over as she started mentioning his earlier vow. Had it been too much for her? Perhaps the idea of a nomad following her back wasn't what she wanted, afterall she hadn't offered. "Yes?" He asked with a tilt of his head with curiousity.

The nomad’s words had touched Kate and done their job letting them all go free without the need for battle, but she knew one wouldn’t go home with her. Losing her sister was a terrible thing to realize and cope with even thought Irina had been the cause of this witnessing. No matter what problems her sister had caused before her death Kate still let the loss like a gaping hole in her heart. Going home without her would be hard.
Staying still in the place she’d stood readied for battle was easier then moving over to her family and seeing the gap where Irina should stand in their coven. Standing beside Garrett Kate could put off the full realization and pretend she was still just missing.
Moving off to see that their would be leaders had left Kate moved at a human pace not wanting to get too close to the Volturi and their guards, the adrenalin and loss she felt could come out as anger and irrational fighting. Hearing his apology Kate turned to him now walking beside her. “Thank you, but her loss was justified even if it hurts.” she said with a coldness to her voice, she couldn’t fully morn her sister while still not forgiving her for the betrayal. As she brought up his vow and heard his questioning answer Kate turned from him. They were now across the edge of the tree line, the Volturi far from even their advanced sight.
Kate knew she wanted Garrett’s vow to be real, true and honest, but she also wouldn’t hold him to words said in the heat of the moment. “Your words before we faced the battle, I wont hold you to them. I know of words said in haste…” she said trailing off again unable to hide the tone of fear that his words were false, that she may leave without him and never see him again. “Your words were beautiful, but you shouldn’t feel bound to them. Battle makes us all speak out.” she said glancing back at him.

Garrett didn't dwell on the subject of the death of her sister, even when he heard her explain it was justified. He knew the death had hurt her but he also knew she felt betrayed. Garrett didnt believe her death was justified. The woman had set the ordeal in motion, but he didnt think many of the Volturi's consequences were just. She had made a mistake, not acted in a cold manner intending to deceive. Surely there was some sort of in between punishment, something between death and letting the person go unreprimanded. In Garrett's eyes he knew t he Volturi only dealt with death. It was why today had been such a victory for the rest of them.
Garrett looked at her curiously as she mentioned not holding him to his words in battle believing them to be said in haste. He still had a slight concern that she was trying to get rid of his intentions towards her but he could also hear a bit of fear in her voice. She seemed uncertain, something he couldnt understand, having meant every word he told her.
"My words were said in haste" He told her. "But I live in haste. Our kind may normally have forever ahead of us, but my mindset has always been to live for the day. Its why I challenge myself at every opportunity, not wanting to let any experience pass me by" He told her, looking into her eyes. "Was my haste too much for you? Battle makes us speak out, and also can make us act how we normally wouldnt"

Before turning from him Kate saw him study her with uncertainty she wondered if he was realizing what a coven he would be stepping into if he followed through with his harsh words. Her family was as unique as the Cullens, however they had an apparent traitor in their coven, unlike their cousins.
Hearing his confession of his words she nodded fearing as much and knowing she would not hold him to words said in haste. As he went on she looked at him more closely believing him to be one of the moment and understanding his explanation. “True words can never been to much to hear.” She said with honestly knowing now that his haste was honest. “If you meant you words then I accept them. Had I the courage to speak as you did I’d have echoed yours.” She smiled her eyes locked on his and the idea of persuit forgotten for the moment.

The thoughts of her Coven were something that Garrett had only given brief thought to but knew at some point he'd have to consider more fully. The life of a nomad differed greatly from that of those within covens, holding such strong attachment to one another, especially with the bonds he saw formed among the vegetarian families. He wasn't sure how exactly he would fit into such a family if he fit in at all, but at the moment, that wansn't his concern. Garrett didnt want to leave her behind, no matter where life took him. He wanted to follow her instead, to live beside her, and try out the life she seemed so fond of.
He watched her nod as he acknowledged that his words were in haste and wondered if she saw his impulsiveness as a bad thing. He nodded as she said how true words could never be too much to hear. "Words in haste can still be true" He assured her. He smiled as she accepted his words and stated she would have echoed them had she more courage. "I have enough courage for the both of us, though sometimes its called stupidity" He smirked.

This talk was a moment of truth and something Kate feared like nothing she’d feared since she’d been human. His words on the battle field had sparked a want and need in her that couldn’t even be compared to thirst. Her need to be with Garrett on a permanent basis was so strong and so natural. If his words were false and filled with haste, she’d be broken.
When he admitted that words in haste could be true Kate felt lifted, it gave her hope that the words were true. She felt like a failure for not having the courage to admit her feelings on the field as he had, but she knew her mind had been focused on the witnessing and the chance of a coming battle.
“Your courage is a credit to you.” She said hoping he knew she could never think him stupid or his words stupidity. His smirk was bright and made Kate smile in return as she looked at him. “So, does your courage mean you’ll really follow me or do you now think that is stupidity?” She asked with her own playful smirk as she loked her amber eyes on his red ones.

Garrett was quite aware that many people lied. It was a trait carried over quite easily to their kind, to manipulate and deceive. But he had always been one for blunt and brutal honestly, brazenly saying whatever was on his mind in order to get his voice heard. He would rather speak his mind and go down having given it his best effort, than to walk away safely and quietly, and wonder what could have been. It was why he had stayed with the Cullens when they faced a battle that could have meant all of their deaths. It was about principle.
Garrett knew that while his impulsive behavior, and words spoken without much thought behind them had been true in the moment, perhaps it had not been the type that Kate wanted to hear. A more romantic show of gesture of the same meaning would have been more planned and well thought out. She always seemed more cautious around others, perhaps because of her gift, where he was just the opposite, yet completely and utterly drawn to her.
He smiled at her s she called his courage a credit. "Thank you, my kind lady" He told her with a slight bow. He grinned back as her look echoed his own, questioning if he would follow through or view it now as stupidity. "It could end up a stupid decision...maybe its even insanity to consider it for someone like myself" He said knowing he had long lived as a nomad and on human blood. "But the only way to know for sure is to try it...I will with my whole heart follow you to the ends of the earth, but do you have the courage to allow me to?"

Judging by his actions and words Kate was seeing that Garrett was very impulsive, a trait seen in newborns and nomads. It was a trait she didn’t possess, she was methodical and well thought out; could opposites attract? She was drawn to him. She sought him out and thought about him when she couldn’t be with him, there was a certain attraction.
His bow was slight and Kate wondered if it was mocking, but she didn’t think it was. He seemed genuine in all he did, so why should he mock her now when they were been to bare with one another? “Like yourself? You think you incapable of been with one person? Or incapable of love?” She questioned wondering what he though was impossible. Kate didn’t believe in impossible now, before yes, but with the birth of a hybrid, the existence of another and now her finding love…impossible was graspable.
To the ends of the earth was as possible for their kind as forever, she saw now that it was no whim he spoke. Did she have the courage?
“You can’t follow me.” She said turning to face him squarely, “Because I’ll be following you. I wont be separated from you Garrett, no matter what. If that is courage then so be it, but I think it is love.” She said stepping towards him to be close to him.

Garrett could see that his words and actions even now were having her question him. He was impulsive. He spoke his mind. He acted out. His eyes still held the redness to it from the blood of humans. And there were a million other reasons he could put forth as to why he'd be making her second guess him. But he realized now that his own words had second guessed himself, of course it would put doubt in her mind, but he thought it only fair that she have it there. He wouldn't try to convince her falsely of something he wasn't sure he could fulfill.
"I have fancied several ladies in my life, but I can never claim to have felt love before." He said knowing what was in his heart towards her. "I have never even attempted to settle with one person, by either traveling with them exclusively or living in one location for too long. I have been a nomad since my creation....who knows if I am capable of any of that, but I wont know until I challenge what I'm capable of" He told her, thinking about his words a moment more before adding on. "I don't want you to think I am only in this to push myself to my limits or as some sort of experiment...I dont know how a life with a coven, as a vegetarian, or with a woman will suit me. But because of my feeling for you, I want to try" He said trying to voice the honesty he felt he should hear, along with his own emotions.
"I see..." Garrett responded sullenly as she told him he couldn't follow her. He knew it was a possible response, and likely given how he lived. She would want someone more like the Cullens (should any of them had been single. Perhaps if he went away and tried her diet, and mastered it, he could come back to her a more worthy candidate for her affection. But moments after these thoughts went through his head, he heard her next words. She would follow him. Something he hadn't even considered. When she stepped towards her he put his arms around her. "I think its love too" He told her, leaning down and kissing her.

The whole conversation scared her. Kate knew she was opening herself up to a possible failure, to the possibility he wouldn’t want to go through with his words said in the adrenalin of pre battle. Despite their closeness in the passed few days she was still afraid to confront the possibility that it wasn’t what she was hoping for. Kate was nervous and scared of what could be or what may not be.
There was a slight jealousy she felt to hear that he had had feelings for other women, but she quelled the feeling enough to listen. “Any life worth living and having is a push of our own limits, it can’t all be easy.” She said gently appreciating his attempt to ease her worry over his words. His expression of feelings for her spurred her on to her later words of love, but now she was content to nod and take in what he was saying.
She hoped it was love because for her it certainly was, she knew she felt love for him. Kate was inlove with Garrett. Hearing he felt it too she smiled. The way she eased into his arms was natural, her gift subdued. Reaching up to him she pressed her lips to his enjoying the feeling that he caused in her. His kiss alone was enough to give her the same results her gift usually inflicted on others.
Pulling back from his lips but not his arms she looked up at him with a bright smile. “Without your arms I think that kiss would have knocked me on my back.” She admitted. “Have you ever been to Alaska?” she inquired knowing eventually they would return there, but wanting to go somewhere alone with him first.

"Life is better when you push your limits" Garrett agreed with her giving a smile. "But trying to fit in with this type of life, is more than just a fun challenge for me. Never think I see you as just something new to try, or am playing a game, I'm in this all the way..I think perhaps you've made me a changed man. "He told her with a light musical chuckle. He knew life with her would be a challenge. Living with her family, and adapting her diet as best he could. But his reasons were her, not just the excitement he got by pushing himself. He didnt want her to think he'd get bored once he mastered it.
Their kiss was pure perfection. The feelings that were exchanged was as strong as if she were shocking him again, feeling it in ever cell of his body (but in a much more pleasant experience). He grinned as she spoke about his kiss knocking her down if he hadn't been holding her. "Glad I have the same effect on you that you have on me " He told her before shaking his head in response to her question about Alaska. "No, to be honest before now I never thought there was much worth seeing up there...figured it was all snow and penguins"
