Heath looked down at his six-year-old cousin, Hannah, clutching her gym bag nervously in front of her for her first day at the dance studio in Forks. She already had the spangled dance shoes on under her jeans, having insisted on wearing them constantly since he had bought them for her two weeks ago. He could see she was nervous, though, as he had been in her position, although he had been double her age when he had discovered dance. Thus, as they approached the glass double doors of the building, Heath crouched in front of his little cousin, noticing the way her wide blue eyes stared into his.
“You’re going to be great,” he reassured her with a perfectly white-toothed grin. He maintained the grin as his cousin began to loosen the vice-like grip on her gym bag. He straightened up with an innate grace, holding his hand out for her own, knowing that she wouldn’t let nerves stop her from trying this out in the end. “Come on, you’re probably already better than the rest of them!” He laughed along with her as they stepped through the door together, knowing that he had her enthusiasm when she had seen him dance was a good indication that she would enjoy it herself eventually.
A few minutes later, once Hannah had changed into her gym clothes, allowing her more freedom of movement than her jeans and t-shirt, Heath accompanied her through to the main studio. He watched as her naturally social personality reasserted itself upon seeing other kids her own age and she trotted over to them, just pausing to turn back to her cousin. “Are you gonna stay and watch?”
“Sure, do you want me to?” Heath asked, making sure that he wasn’t cramping her style by being there, though he was eager to spend as much time as he could with the girl before she started noticing his lack of ageing. The girl nodded eagerly and he grinned back at her. “Sure thing then.”
It was only then that he looked up towards the front of the studio, his piercing blue eyes immediately drawn to the figure of the woman that would teach the bunch of kids. It was almost like the world paused for a few moments to rewrite itself, or at least everything Heath had ever known about it. All the somewhat bitter disappointment of being one of the only members of the pack not to imprint evaporated. In fact, nothing seemed important anymore, nothing other than meeting his soul mate, stood so close, just a few metres away, at the other end of the dance hall. He felt his legs, ever graceful, take him forward towards her while he used all his energy to keep any kind of worshipful expression from his face. She may be his imprintee, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t think him a leering idiot.
“Hi,” he said, a warm smile spreading over his somewhat stubbled face as an equivalent warmth spread through his abdomen. “I think my uncle phone you earlier in the week about Hannah Scott joining your class?” Even the most mundane of conversations seemed fresh and new. He had thought that he had a good enough idea of what it was to be imprinted on someone from his pack mates’ thoughts, but this was mind blowing.

Aubrey had finished stretching before any of the children had arrived. None of the movements they were going to be doing were anything too complex that she'd need to be fully warmed up for, yet she still felt her body performed best when she had stretched. She enjoyed working with the younger class, one many teachers avoided because of their inexperience. Aubrey liked to be the one to get them to love dancing. To teach them their first steps and see the excitement in their faces as they did it and eventually worked up to doing a whole number. It may not be the most challenging of routines to teach, but she enjoyed it as much as she did her advanced classes.
As the children began filing in the room she smiled at them, allowing them to socialize amongst themselves as they waited for everyone to arrive before getting started. Many parents walked their children in before leaving, so she hadn't noticed the new man until he began walking over towards her. She smiled friendly at him automatically as she looked up but felt something wash over her. She wasn't sure what it was, but it was like a sense of familiarity, like she had known him for years. Had she met him before?
"Hello" She greeted him as he approached, still smiling, now not just out of politeness but feeling excited meeting him. "Yes, Hannah Scott. Her father did call, we're glad to have her here" She said feeling like she was stumbling over her words a little trying to think of something intelligent to say. "Your uncle, so you're Hannah's cousin?" She asked, then realized she should introduce herself since the man was leaving his cousin in her care. "I'm Aubrey Knight, I'll be her teacher...have we met before? "

Heath’s penetratingly blue eyes looked directly into Aubrey’s, searching for some kind of spark, some kind of recognition of him as her imprinter. She wouldn’t know that in those words, of course, but none of his wolf friends had trouble in attracting their imprintee to them. There was a slight chance that he was completely mistaken, though the way that he felt as though his heart had opened to welcome hers in indicated that she was definitely someone special. He smiled at her as she confirmed that Hannah was booked in and he found it endearing how enthusiastic she seemed.
“Yeah, sorry, I’m Heath, Heath Scott,” he said, a smile breaking through in his expression. He extended his large, but lean hand, his manners, although sometimes a little antiquated, always present. He laughed a little as their introductions clashed with each other. He found her eyes with his again, “It’s nice to meet you, Aubrey.”
Glancing back at the filling studio, he double checked to make sure that Hannah was getting along okay with the other kids and then turned his attention back to their teacher. “I don’t think we’ve met before,” he said, truthfully – he would know if he had met this woman before; it would be etched into his soul. “But if you’ve been to the Rez a lot you might have seen me around the beach or in the store…”
He realised as he said this to her that this would be unlikely to; he hadn’t been living or working in La Push for a few years now, just running back when he was on patrol or when he was visiting Quil. And that meant that she felt the connection too! He fought to keep the excited expression from his face, knowing it would be inappropriate in front of the kids.

Aubrey found herself just staring into the man's eyes for awhile. She felt such an overwhelming sensation of familiarity and warmth from him. Almost as if they had been friends since they were first able to talk. But she knew that wasn't possible as she'd never forget a friend. But perhaps he was just someone she had met a couple times and was a friendly stranger who left a good impression in her memory, even if she couldn't place how she knew him. She was sure she did though. Her soul recognized him.
"Nice to meet you Mr. Scott" Aubrey said, shaking the man's hand, her eyes widening slightly as she felt how warm his hands were. It was a pleasant surprise. She laughed lightly with him as their introductions clashed against each other, her eyes again locked onto his.
"You sure?" She said surprised when he said that he didnt think they had met before. She was certain she knew him. She nodded as he suggested maybe she had seen him around the reservation or in a store. "Yeah....that must be it" She said, having thought it was more than that but accepting that this must be the only reasonable explanation for this feeling.
She realized she was still standing there just staring at him when he came over to talk about his cousin. "We always start off a little slow with the basics to make sure everyone can keep up, so Hannah should be just find getting started" She said reassuringly. "And you're welcome to stay and watch if you want, some of the parents do...but you don't have to either if you have places to be"

As the laughter died down from their mixed up introductions, Heath’s smile remained bright and warm, drawing in his imprintee without conscious intention. Every fibre in him knew that she was for him and vice versa, and it knew that they were destined to be more than just friends. He found it sweet how she addressed him so formally, though she was the guardian of one of her students, so maybe he should have expected that. Nevertheless, he didn’t want her to feel that she needed to be so formal with him, always wanting her to be comfortable in his presence.
“Please, call me Heath; Mr Scott is my father,” a man that he definitely did not want to be. He continued to smile at her as she questioned whether they could have met somewhere before. Whilst he would love to acknowledge the obvious link that they had inside, he wouldn’t lie to her to say that they had met somewhere physically before – they would have plenty of time to meet up and see the world together later. When they weren’t stood in front of a class full of children he would explain to her the reason she felt such a deep connection – he had, by this point, found out from others that their imprintees usually claimed to have felt just as strongly for their imprinters.
“I know, it feels like I’ve met you before too,” he commented, genuinely. So happy was he to have met his imprintee at last that Heath barely realised that they were just more or less staring at each other until she started talking about her, turning back into the class teacher. He supposed that she had a job to do, though, but at least he would get to spend more time with her while she taught.
“I have no where I’d rather be,” his vividly blue eyes caught hers at an angle as he turned to face the class, but kept his eyes trained on Aubrey. There was an odd honesty to his words, like there were no simpler words or no simpler statement of fact. He grinned a little bit, wiggling his fingers at his cousin as she pointed at him, clearly telling one of her new little friends something.
“Han should be okay keeping up, I think – she’s been dancing on my feet since before she could walk, but I don’t have time to give her lessons regularly,” his tone lowered at the end with a tinge of sadness and his expression darkened a little. He also knew that pretty soon she would notice him not aging and he would have to start making excuses for not seeing her and even if she didn’t notice for a while, he was already pushing it with his uncle, who he already tried to avoid if he could. He hadn’t wanted Hannah to give up on something she loved just because he dropped out of her life.

Aubrey smiled as he asked her to call him Heath, saying how Mr. Scott was his father. "Alright, Heath" She replied, feeling a bit of a tingle as she spoke his name aloud. It felt right to be on a first name basis with him, especially as she had the feeling they had already met before, even if it wasn't true. She could just see herself being comfortable around him.
She laughed lightly as he mentioned how he felt as thought they had met before too. " Well I'm glad I'm not the only one then. " She said casually, wondering if he actually did feel it too, or was just trying to be polite. Maybe there was still the chance that they had seen each other in the store. Was he the man who asked her which aisle the coffee was in last week? She tried to picture that man but couldnt even recall what he had looked like. Something told her that Heath wasn't someone she would forget about a week later.
"Good, it'll be nice for Hannah to have some support here" She said grateful to hear that Heath would be sticking around during the class. She didnt want him to leave, for reasons very much unrelated to her student.
She smiled at him again listening to him explain how she had been dancing on his feet since before she could walk, a gesture that Aubrey found very endearing. It surprised her to hear mention of him not having time to give her lessons. "Do you dance yourself?" She asked, knowing there were far less male dancers than female dancers. With Heath's height and build, she wouldnt have guessed him to have taken lessons.

Heath continued to smile back at his imprintee, masking his state of overexcitement in front of the gathering class of children. His mind was already racing away ahead of itself, imagining the long and meaningful conversations their relationship would begin with, all the fun things they would get to do together and even went so far as to begin imagining what their older selves would be like together.
He laughed with her as she appreciated him thinking they’d met too, his eyes reflecting a natural glee that emerged from finding the person that made you whole again. Even if he knew for a fact that they’d never seen each other in person, he was also certain that their souls had met before and that they definitely recognised each other in this unlikely meeting. He found himself in a quandary, wanting time to go slowly so that he could have an excuse to stay with her, even if it was just to watch her teach, but then he wanted the class to be over so that he could spend time with her alone.
Nodding as she told him that it would be good for Hannah for him to stay, Heath looked for a veiled compliment, though he realised that they were still in a professional relationship at this point. “Yeah, she’s not normally to shy, but she was a bit nervous about dancing in front of other people toady. It’ll be okay though, I’ve assured her that she rocks.” He flashed a grin to the dance teacher.
He nodded, his grin closing to become a far more modest smile in a manner that dimpled his stubbly cheeks. He had been dancing for a long time and though he hadn’t been a professional dancer by any means, he could do some advanced steps and wasn’t afraid of leading. He hadn’t done much with anyone other than Hannah since he had become a protector of La Push, but he knew that the extra grace of his species would lend to the steps that he had trouble with in the past.
“For a long time now,” he told her, not wanting to admit quite how long as that would involve more complication than was advisable with a bunch of kids staring at them. “I enjoy it.”

Heath's smile was alluring. It just seemed to make him seem like such a bright and friendly person. Someone she wanted to spend time with, even if this was their first time meeting. She knew it was probably a strange way to feel about the adult accompanying one of her students and tried to keep from being too friendly and crossing the line of professionalism.
Heath's laugh was warm and Aubrey could just get the feeling that he was generally a warm and friendly guy. She already thought it was sweet how much he cared for his cousin, to bring her here and look out for her. Most men his age (or the age he appeared to be) wouldn't be interested in spending time with a little girl, or hanging out in dance studios. He must be a very caring person.
"Its okay if she's a little nervous at first, they're still kids, I dont expect any of them to be pros, just have fun" She told him and then smiled as he said how he had told his cousin that she rocked. "I'll try to make sure she feels that way too" She said thinking again how sweet he was to the girl, almost like a parent or older brother would be.
Aubrey looked at him with interest, seeing something beyond his modesty telling her he was better than he was admitting to as he did casually say how he had been dancing for a long time now. "Well, its nice to meet a fellow dancer" She told him, before adding. "If you ever need some space, you can drop by here when there's no classes" She offered then immediately wondered if she shouldn't have. Did that sound too forward. She wasn't trying to send out the wrong signals, she was happily dating Kris afterall. But chances were, a male who enjoyed dancing and was this nice of a guy was probably gay anyway.

Heath smiled as Aubrey reassured him that Hannah would be okay even if she was a little nervous. It was nice to see that she wasn’t the kind of person to push the little tykes to exhaustion to make them into some kind of freaky child dance prodigies. She was probably even nice to the slower kids, the ones that couldn’t pick up the steps that quickly and had no natural rhythm. In Heath’s eyes she was perfect and so he placed his own ideals like a veil over her, knowing that, as his imprintee, she would never disappoint him.
“Good to know,” he told her, his voice warm and his sparkling blue eyes inviting further conversation. He grinned at her. “I’m not encouraging you to inflate her ego, by the way. She could just do with a little confidence boost right now … she’s a shy little thing … usually …” He finished in a small embarrassed laugh as he noticed his shy little cousin turn around and stick her tongue out at them, looking impatient. She was clearly more eager to start her dance classes than self-conscious about what others would think of her. Heath shrugged a little, “Maybe I am just inflating her ego …”
He smiled and nodded slightly, acknowledging that it was nice to meet another dancer and grinned when she said that he could use her practice space. It had been a long time since he had been in a practice studio like this and he had to admit that he was getting itchy feet, though that could have something to do with finding his imprintee here of all places. It just went to show that his most unusual of pastimes had a reason after all. “That might be good,” he told her, brightly. “Thanks. Do you practice here much or do you get enough dance action teaching?”

Aubrey hoped that her words had instilled confidence in the man. She always tried to make the parents comfortable, knowing it was hard for some of them to drop off their children, or even just hand them over to someone else for instruction. He seemed just as protective as any parent over his cousin, so she hoped he felt comfortable as well.
Aubrey gave a light laugh as Heath explained how Hanna was usually pretty shy. When she looked over, she caught the look the girl was giving her older cousin. "I think its the studio, some get shy performing, but others feel more at home here" She said with a gentle smile, knowing herself that outside of this place she was one of the quiet and nervous types. Dancing gave her confidence and let her feel like she could be herself. It was surprising her as they talked just how comfortable she was with Heath as well.
She smiled after seeing his reaction to her offer of using the space after hours. He didnt seem to react as though he thought she was being too forward, so she didnt worry any further that he may have taken the offer the wrong way. "I practice here when I can too. I love teaching the kids but we don't usually get to anything advanced enough for me to get out my pent up dance energy"

Heath rolled his eyes a little at his cousin, ending by raising his eyebrow, trying to ask her what she was playing at without giving the game away. Hannah knew Heath well and whilst she loved her cousin, she wouldn't hesitate in messing up whatever relationship he was trying to initiate with her new dance teacher. Where was the fun of having such a cool older cousin if she didn't get to embarrass him every once in a while?
The blue-eyed man smile quite bashfully as Aubrey laughed at his cousin's antics and shrugged a little, not needing to give explanation for a six-year-old's mischief-making ways, though he was glad that she laughed at her rather than thought her rude. He would have guessed that being a dance teacher for kids would need someone with a sense of humour, but it reassured him to see that perhaps she wouldn't be too strict with them. Not that he would ever think her anything but perfect - that he could already tell - but this was supposed to be more for Hannah's enjoyment, not his! "Maybe,"he conceded to Aubrey's suggestion that his cousin felt more confident with the excitement of the stage around the corner. He grinned. "Or maybe it's just a six-year-old looking for trouble ..." He raised his voice a little so that she would be able to hear, and instead of taking it as a threat she merely covered her mouth with her hands and giggled.
"That's a shame," he commented as his imprintee told him that she didn't really get to excise her dance energy with the kids and he doubted that solo stuff would do the trick either. He smiled at her, instantly wanting to fulfil any need he could for her. "Maybe one day we could practice together? - although I do warn you it has been years since I had a partner and I will, most likely, suck."

Aubrey thought it was adorable watching the little interaction between Hannah and Heath. It was obvious that he spent a lot of time with his cousin and loved her. It was a lot more than most guys his age would do and something she greatly respected him for.
Aubrey nodded as Heath agreed that it may be her theory of the stage that made Hannah more comfortable, but also suggested that it was just the youth of the girl looking for trouble. Aubrey turned slight to see Hannah's reaction and saw the stifled giggle. "I think you may be on to something" She agreed with him.
"Its okay, I'm not complaining, I like helping the kids through the beginner stuff, and hopefully help them enjoy it as much as I do" She said, hoping it didn't sound like she was just complaining that the kids were too basic for her liking. She was capable of more complex movements than she used in her class, but she was appreciative of her time with them. After her injury she wasn't sure she'd ever get a chance to dance again, much less find another way in life to make it her career, other than a professional dancer.
She smiled as he suggested that maybe they could practice together. She loved the idea and was already looking forward to it. She knew she had to tell Kris when she got home her exciting news of finding someone to dance with. "I'd love to. And I'm sure you don't suck, and if you do I'll probably end up giving you a few pointers out of habit"
