Character Basics
Name:Jasper Whitlock Hale
Nickname:Jazz to Alice at times
Age:166 years old, turned at 20
Appearance
Looks:Jasper has pale pale white skin due to his vampire nature along with his usually golden eyes. His hair is a mess of blonde curls that are pretty hard to control. All of those years working on his family’s farm did well for Jasper’s body. He’s tall, lean, and toned. While he may not look as buff as his brother, Emmett, he still has a strength although quieter.
Scars, tattoos, other marks:Jasper’s body is covered with many scars from newborn vampires. Thankfully, humans can only see these scars in direct light. So Jasper tends to find shady corners the best place for him. Vampires can see these scars at all times, and they send quite a message.
Portrayed by: Jackson Rathbone
Personality and Stats
Basic Personality: At firsts glance Jasper seems to be either cold as ice, or really really dull. But he isn’t either. Usually he’s concentrating. He’s a methodical thinker, and wants to make sure of every move before he starts to shift gears. Few get to see how caring he is, although if you are a member of the Cullens clan you would know. It’s true that he can feel raw emotions, and that he prefers to calm. But it’s not because he can’t stand those emotions, it’s because he wants his family to be safe and calm. Jasper has always been about the subtle acts of affection. A smile or a warm handshake is his way of saying he loves you. Although he has been known to do much more than that for Alice. Because he loves his family so much, he would do anything to keep them safe, especially his wife. While Jasper may be calm and kind usually, if you insult or threaten his family, he turns back into the monster that he was in the South. And unlike his times in the past, he will not regret it.
Species: Vampire
Abilities: Jasper can sense a person’s emotions, and he can influence them. If you are nervous, he can lay his hand on your shoulder and you’ll suddenly feel much better.
Occupation: Student, Protector
Car: Mustang
History: Jasper Whitlock was born in the 1800s on the grounds of his family’s small farm. They grew vegetables and a handful of fruit to local vendors and general stores. Depending on the weather pattern that season, the Whitlock family either lived comfortable, or barely lived at all. During those hard times, Jasper would do odds and ends jobs in town as he was the eldest of the Whitlock clan. His father, Clarence Whitlock, was a farmer who had a tough work ethic and didn’t believe in “coddling” his children. Jasper barely spoke to the man by the time he left for war. Clarence’s wife, Katherine, was a woman from the North who didn’t seem prepared to live the life of a farmer’s wife. Her way out seemed to be getting pregnant. Jasper was the eldest of eight Whitlocks. After Jasper was his sister Janey, brother Thomas, Horace, sister Helen, Laurie, Paula, and baby brother Mason. Instead of watching the farm, Katherine was watching the children. Jasper helped out his father all he could, although the cold seasons could only get them so far. When the weather was bad for crops, Jasper would go into town and take odd jobs here and there. It was during these odd jobs that he started to get a reputation in the town. Everyone loved him. He was charismatic, charming, and a nice young man. In fact, there were many young girls in the town that had dreamed of becoming Mrs. Whitlock.
But it wasn’t meant to be. War was declared. The people in Jasper’s town barely knew why. After all they found out that they were fighting a war a few weeks in. The young men in the town started to get restless, thinking that they should be involved. And when recruiters came to town, Jasper encouraged all of the men in the town to go for a drink at the local bar, then follow him to sign up for the Confederate Army. The Army was impressed with Jasper from the start. He was the leader of the boys, but he wasn’t arrogant or conceited. After some quick basic training, Jasper was awarded the title of Major. He was the youngest officer in the Confederate Army. As he went out to fight the war, he left his sister Janey in charge, as she was just as good if not better around the farm as he was. Kissing his family goodbye, he left for the war and never came back. Jasper served well in the army, all of his men adored him, and his superiors were sure he would go far in the military.
While trying to evacuate a town during the war, Jasper happened upon three oddly pale women. He tried to convince them to follow him, so they could leave the town and return to safety. They refused. And their leader, Maria, bit Jasper. He asked her why she decided to go after him, and later on, she simply said that she liked the look of him. And the feel of confidence was always a draw. She needed that for her own army. Maria’s selfish act ended Jasper’s life, and his spirit. For centuries, he worked as Maria’s puppet. Killing and training newborns for her army. Jasper followed her blindly, never thinking twice about his actions. It was almost fun, watching them scream. Then he made friends with a newborn, Peter. Unlike Jasper, Peter did grow a conscious and left the “coven” with his girl, Charlotte on his arm. Jasper turned the other cheek, even though he knew that Maria would want them dead. They weren’t like other newborns, he told himself. They really mattered. But he made friends with those that he would kill…doubt filled him. It was the final straw when Maria ordered him to kill all of the newborns. The Volturi would enact revenge if it wasn’t done.
But Jasper couldn’t do it any longer. He slipped out one day, and never looked back. For years, he lived on his own. At times, he would stay with Peter and Charlotte but never for too long. He needed to find his own place in the world. One that didn’t involve all of the killing that was really beginning to haunt Jasper. One fateful night, Jasper hid in a diner to avoid the rain. And then there she was. Alice wondered what took him so long. He apologized politely, even though he had no clue who Alice was. And he certainly didn’t know that she was his soul mate. The pair quickly found this out on their own with some help of Alice’s visions. After hearing about the Cullens, Jasper was hesitant, but he knew already not to argue with Alice. So he agreed to find them. Now, after years with the Cullens, Jasper is finally starting to adjust to his new vegetarian lifestyle. It still isn’t always easy, especially when the wind picks up in just the right way…but he’s trying hard. He wants so desperately to succeed. While working hard to overcome his past, Jasper has become somewhat the watchdog of the family. If they needed to intimidate anyone, he’s the one they call. And with all of his odd connections in the underworld…he can get the job done quite well.
Birthplace:Texas in the 1800s.
Family:
Human: (All long gone)
Clarence and Katherine- Mom and Pop
Janey, Thomas, Horace, Helen, Laurie, Paula, and Mason-siblings
Vampire:
Carlisle- Father
Esme-Mother
Rose, Emmett, Edward-Siblings
Friends:Peter and Charlotte, they still drop by every few years. The Denali clan has been ever patient with Jasper. And well…maybe Maria. But probably not.
Sample Post: Jasper looked at the calendar. It seemed so silly that he would remember such a day. That after all of the years that Jasper lived as a vampire…that this day should still matter. Or that he would even still remember it. But he did. November 2nd. It was the day that he was sent to make sure that all had evacuated a small Southern town. The day that his life ended, and his afterlife started. His eyes fell down from the calendar. It didn’t matter. That life that started that day was over. In a way, he had three birthdays. The day he came into being, the day he became a vampire, and the day he met Alice and became the man he was today. Of all of the days, he preferred the last.
After checking to see that all of his siblings were busy, Jasper wandered off into the woods on his own. Musing while he hunted, as he always tended to. What would have happened if he didn’t go in town that day? Maybe he would have died in battle. Or maybe he would have been a four star general in the Confederate Army, only to surrender to the Yanks. Perhaps he would settle down with that girl who liked him...Bridget. That was her name. It was a wonder that he remembered his life at all. And it was something that Jasper hardly brought up. It was a normal happy life. And it was much more than Alice could remember. Alice. Now there was a reason to go through all of this pain. All in the name to find her. Human Jasper didn’t know if he believed in fate. But now, Jasper was sure of it. Although lines blurred sometimes, some things were simply meant to be.
A bird cried out in the distance, and Jasper instinctively dropped down into his fighting stance. His head darted around, eyes looking far. Ears hearing the cracks of small twigs left on the ground. Leaves. Someone was approaching. It took him a moment to realize. Not recognize, he knew her right away, but to realize that that scent belonged to her. And that woman could still be in his life somehow.
“Happy Anniversary,” Maria purred as she came into his vision.
