{....Ithaca, NY.....October 1950....}
Legs stretched out ahead of him Emmett read over the bright comic strip in the newspaper, over the last few weeks since it had first appeared he’d become addicted to the little characters. His laughter boomed as he watched Peanuts antics in the little squares. Coming to the last box he tossed the paper down onto the sofa next to him and pulled his legs in sitting up. The new comic strip wasn’t the only thing to have recently appeared in Emmett’s laugh, though the other appearance effect more then just him.
A few weeks ago two new vampires had turned up, one knew all about each of them and the other was distant and very quiet. Been the amazing people Esme and Carlisle were they welcomed their new friends with open arms. Emmett was easy going and settled to the new people quickly, though the dark haired pixie was a little weird with her gift. They were more then friends, already Emmett knew they were going to be close and new family members.
The pixie already knew so much about all of them, but he knew next to nothing about her quiet mate Jasper. He appeared the age of himself and Ed, though they already knew he was far older on that pretense Emmett decided it was time for something brotherly bonding.
Emmett took the stairs quickly two at a time climbing up to Edward’s room, “Hey Ed.” He said in a conversational tone and volume even before he reached his brother’s room. With a gentle push he entered the room still talking, “Lets go find this Jasper and do something.” He said walking to the wall lined with books and dragging his finger over the spines as he spoke. “I figure the girls can do their thing with that pixie girl and we’ll take the dude.” He said turning to face his brother. “You in?”

The arrival of the two newest members of their family had affected each of the other members in their own way. For Edward it was a mixture of feelings. Yet again he saw a pair of vampires in love, having found their perfect mate, something Edward was certain he was not meant to have, and wasn't even sure if he even wanted. But both of these new vampires also possessed something that he had been unique in within their family until that point. They had extra gifts like his mind reading ability. The small female could predict the future and seemed to know all about them all before even getting there (and assured him that the two of them would become extra close, something he wondered if their gifts would help happen) and the male seemed to have a gift with emotions. Being able to read their thoughts, Edward found out about both of their abilities before they had disclosed them to the other family members.
Edward was in his room leafing through the pages of one of his old manuscripts that he had collected a couple decades ago. It was one he hadn't looked at in awhile but had kept in good condition. He wasn't all that in the mood for reading right now but assumed the others were all off with their significant others so stayed to his room for now.
Edward heard Emmett's voice from down the hallway as he approached. He looked over towards the door as his brother opened it. "Her name's Alice" Edward responded as Emmett called the girl, the pixie girl, then nodded. "But yeah, I'm in...what do you have in mind?"

They finally made it. After years of searching for the Cullen family, Alice and Jasper were finally with them. Being around Alice for the first few days was like being next to sunshine. She was so glad to finally meet all of the friendly vampires that were constants in her visions. To finally know how goofy Emmett really was. To finally understand Esme's utter kindess, and yes, even to know Rosalie's miffed distance...Alice was in heaven.
And Jasper? He was okay. After talking to Esme and Carlilse, he made it clear that his "vegitarian" ways were slightly more rusty than their family members. And just as Alice predicted, he was only met with encouragement and understanding. Jasper wasn't sure if this would keep up forever. Surely after a while, they would have enough with Jasper's slip ups...but he had to hope in the mean time they wouldn't. As of now, the Cullens were only welcoming and warm. Nevertheless, Jasper kept a slight distance between himself and the family. Alice threw herself in head first, already out with Esme and Rosalie. Shopping. Laughing. Jasper tended to curl up with a book and watch the rain from the window. It wasn't that he didn't like the Cullens, once again, Alice was right in saying they were indeed a "good bunch." But he knew his scars were hard to ignore. And that his power was off putting...
Well, at least that was his excuse for keeping to himself at first. Deep down he knew his own emotions, although he wished he could ignore them. He was scared. Scared that the Cullens would come to their senses and hate him. If they didn't know him too well...then they wouldn't have a problem would they? It had been so long since Jasper made a real friend. Peter was the only exception to the rule. Could he really make friends after all these years? Jasper mused on this very thought while his eyes stared at a picture in his Civil War "non-fiction" book. Things were different then. He made friends easily. Jasper's fingertips graced the picture, remembering the actual fort pictured. And the smell of the mud beneath his toes.

Lumping into the room, though with more grace then a human his size would have, Emmett looked at his ‘little’ brother before moving over to the books. He knew most of the titles by half though few of them held his interest, he and Ed had different taste in most things like the average brothers in the world.
Looking back at Edward Emmett gave him a dimpled grin, Ed was the loner of the group not having a mate like the others, but he was still one of the family. In vampire years he was the elder of the two, but Emmett’s stature and appearance gave him the title big brother one he enjoyed lording over Edward.
“Yea that’s her, Alice. Geez she knows a lot about us.” He said merely stating the point, it didn’t bother Emmett he had nothing to hide other then the secret they all hid. He watched as Edward seemed in favor of his idea. “I figure we go find him try and break him out of his shell a little.” He said with a devilish imp like grin, to Emmett breaking the new comer out of his shell could involve anything.
Heading back towards the door the bear like boy looked over his should. “Come on Ed, lets go find him.” He said with another grin, not giving Edward chance to correct his name or object to bothering the new guy. When he’d first joined the family, been turned by Carlisle after his Angel saved him, he’d relished the family and their introductions now he wanted to offer their new brother the same courtesy. “He’s in the house somewhere, Alice left with the girls but I think he stayed.” Emmett said as he began his boundful descent down the staircase.
