Carlisle watched the lithe movements of the new vampire with fascination. He had also sped his pace up to a full run in order to keep the newborn within his sights. He knew it would be impossible to fight her down with brute strength if she was about to do something her soul would regret when it was sensible again, but he knew he could out fox her. The newborn’s body would be strong, but her mind would not be. In any case, he could not smell any humans in the immediate area, though there was a very distant tang to the air, which told him they were there, though that only existed to him because he already knew they were there.
He continued to watch as the delicate looking woman easily caught her prey and mashed it to her teeth, forcing its vital lifeblood down her throat. Carlisle, himself, was not thirsty, having hunted just before he had turned Esme, so he could afford himself to watch the hunt with minimal thirst-related discomfort. He whizzed around the fleeing prey, herding them back up in the direction they had come. There was no sense in allowing them to break toward civilisation. No matter how glutted the newborn was on animal blood, that first scent of the human variety would make the thirst burn more than ever.
“Do you understand?” he asked her, now that her instincts had done as he predicted. He knew that they hadn’t explained the details of the transformation, that she wouldn’t be able to sensibly understand the changes that had undergone in her body, but they had taught her survival.

Once the creature was completely drained of the warm fluid, Esme easily pushed it away from her. Naturally she was a mess, it being her first hunt and all. Her caramel colored hair tangled and encrusted with dirt, her ragged clothes (same ones she wore on her last human day) were now not only covered in dirt and mud but some blood from the doe.
She wasn't finished though, Carlisle had kept the deer close to the original grazing area she had disrupted them from, and she hunted them too. Esme quickly drained the remaining two deer of the small herd. The burn was relieved and now manageable, not consuming her every thought. As the instinct to feed ceased, other thoughts flooded her mind.
In a mixture of emotions Esme shot up from her crouched position to stand erect the instant her hunting instincts ceased. Her eyes staring wide at Carlisle in shock. Esme's mind was so consumed with disgust, wonder, and confusion that she had barely caught Carlisle's words. What did he mean by, 'Did she understand?'. Was she supposed to? She was disgusted by what she had just done, yet relieved by the feeling of drinking the animal's blood. And this confused her. Her new mind, which could expand to think of several things at once, wandered between many questions she had.
Barely a second had passed since Carlisle had asked his question. "No," Esme answered in a barely audible whisper. She felt certain that the doctor that stood before her should certainly be disgusted and shocked by what she had just done. But he wasn't, and she could sense that.

Carlisle carefully watched Esme as she hunted in the limited area, using his own increased speed to keep the deer penned in the immediate area. In fact, he found it quite difficult to keep his eyes off her, the way she moved, her expressions, the way she held herself when stood upright. He cast her an affectionate smile as he wandered over to her, using his slow, human pace so as not to startle her. He inhaled, taking in her new scent, taking away the earthy tones of the deer, it surprised him how good and sweet she smelt - even for a vampire. He had to give himself an internal shake as he made himself recognised the confused, somewhat hurt look on the other vampire’s face.
Wake up, Carlisle, he told himself. You have to make this better for her.
The affection in his smile softened to sympathy and compassion, he could still remember that overwhelming confusion at the transformation. He nodded, a single gesture.
“Esme,” he said her name smoothly, in a voice that could infiltrate a mind from a pace. “There are a few things I have to tell you about what you are - what you’ve become that are going to be hard to take in, okay?”
He paused, leaving silence between his sentences to give the newborn the chance to take in what he was saying. He sought out her eyes with his own, hoping to hold her captive in his gaze long enough for a spark of understanding to ignite.
“I’m going to start with the big issue. Esme… we’re vampires.”
He knew that she probably would have gotten this from the urge for blood that ran in her veins, but often it was difficult to put a name to it. When something happened that you couldn’t explain, you didn’t like to presume yourself a monster. He eyed her anxiously, knowing that the word would provoke a reaction.

She stared at the doctor, her eyes wide and her body rigid. She had been wondering most of this time what had happened to her, and what was going on. But now that he said he was going to tell her, she wasn't even sure she wanted to know. Despite that, she let him continue on to explain.
She met his eyes as he continued to speak. Once she locked gazes with him, she found it hard to look away. As he opened his mouth, and let the words fall out, she found it hard to believe one particular word he said.
Surely he didn't say...vampire... she told herself.
But as she thought back to what had just happened in the short amount of time since the burning of her body had stopped. She knew it had to be true. It would explain the thirst for blood she now had. But vampires were just stories told to scare townsfolk...or so she had thought.
All the while she was mulling those over in her mind, the emotions and expressions on her face rotated uncontrollably. From shock, to fear, disgust, recognition. Finally, Esme's face portrayed a combination of both the initial fear and disgust.
Simultaneously with the mixture of emotions a low hiss escaped Esme's mouth, her lips pulling over her teeth. The act wasn't directed at Carlisle, but at the realization of what she now was. She let her crimson eyes escape his stare and glide around their surroundings.
Looking around she took in the changes that had happened to her. She lifted an arm to touch the opposite one, and felt the now hard, smooth skin. Now that she paid attention, she could now concentrate on the changes; the voice, the greatly improved sight and hearing, the strength she now felt pulsing in her muscles. Certainly these were some good things.
But the good of course brought back the opposite; the bad. Vampires weren't supposed to consume animal blood. It was human blood they thirsted for, why had she even wanted the deer's blood? The changes now flashed in her mind and it clicked; the improvements were to better her in her natural hunt. They weren't good.
Disgust flowed heavily through Esme's changed body. A second, instinctive hiss erupted from her throat, this one louder. Esme didn't want to be a vampire. A monster, a beast that fed off blood. She had wanted to escape the human world, not live among them as a myth, a scary story. She had wanted to die, she wanted to now. Her eyes pricked in a weird way; if she had the ability to produce tears, she would certainly be crying now.
Barely seconds had passed since she had broken her gaze with Carlisle's gold colored eyes, and as she made a complete round of the surrounding foliage with her enhanced eyes, she met them again. And almost instantly the thoughts of hopeful death ceased. Esme recalled the reason she had wanted death; she had had no reason to live.
But now, as she looked into the eyes of the gentle doctor that had treated her many years ago, she felt that she now had a reason, a purpose. It was an unusual feeling, she barely knew the man that stood before her. She pulled her eyes away from Carlisle's once more. She still felt disgusted and afraid of what had happened and what was to come, but she no longer wished for death.
Barely a single minute had passed since Carlisle had told her what she had become. Her new mind now processed things quicker. Esme attempted to respond to Carlisle, her mouth opened and shut quickly a couple times, unsure of what to say or ask.
"What does it mean?" she finally asked. "Why am I a...?" she let her question trail off. Now that she looked at him, she took in his appearance. He was probably the most beautiful man she had ever seen. So inhumanly beautiful....
"Oh!" she blurted in shock as she answered her second question. He was obviously a vampire too-if he had been a human she should have fed on him, the simple smell of the animal blood had crazed her. And he changed her.
An instinctive, shocked hiss came out with her question, "Why? Why did you change me?" She wasn't angered by his decision, but shocked that he had chose her. Certainly there had to be a reason.((OOC: I definitely let myself go with this one.... Sorry.... ))

(OOC: Long posts rock my world ) Carlisle monitored carefully the flashing changes in Esme’s expression as she processed the dreaded word. Vampire. He considered that he almost had it better than the young woman, at least in his time people were aware of the supernatural creatures that haunted their doorsteps, and many more besides. Well, of course, it wasn’t the same then, the hunting of vampires and witches was mainly a way to police thoughts, and vampires were very rarely actually discovered. In fact, the only case that Carlisle knew that real vampires were discovered was in his own. It was a fact that used to make him sad, make him regret his decision to go into that vampire nest and force them out into the open - the action that had caused his painful transformation. However, more recently, since he had become accustomed to being a ‘vegetarian’ vampire, he had become more content with the nature of his transformation. After all, it proved that he had the human decency and compassion with others of his species to avoid making any mistake whatsoever. He had seen his father and his friends murder human after human under the guise of vampiric nature or witchcraft, he had always known that he could never do the same. This was an aspect of his human self that he hoped he had brought into this new existence, one that he hoped had been enhanced by the nature of the transformation.
His brow caved into one of understanding sympathy as he heard the hisses that erupted from her throat. At first he was worried that her anger had turned to him, why wouldn’t it? Of course she would be angry at him for taking advantage of her when she was powerless and dying! But how could he just stand there and wait for her heart to stop beating all the while knowing that he was the only one for miles around that could save her? He couldn’t, that was the simple answer. He looked into her face with a desperation to see some hint that she wasn’t angry at him, he didn’t want to have to talk her round to trusting him - for some reason he wanted her to like him from the outset. Strange, really, considering that when he had turned Edward he had been prepared to talk him to the ends of the earth until the young vampire could trust him.
However, Carlisle did not have to wait more than a moment, a long one to him, before Esme’s crimson stare focused back on his own gold one. He looked back, trying to neutralise his gaze, knowing that he had to be calm and confident to win over the newborn. He was finding it disconcertingly difficult, though. He instinctively put out a comforting hand, though he allowed it to fall short of her shoulder, brushing just over her forearm as she tried to voice her questions. He took a deep breath and shot her an intense look from under his lashes. This was the important bit, make or break, she would either run or stay.
“I won’t lie to you, Esme,” he told her, using his mastered calming voice, though he found that he only just had enough control to do so. “Becoming a vampire is everything - it’s almost like a new life. But at the same time it’s like being… frozen, I suppose. Likes, dislikes, personality quirks, talents, shortcomings - they all stay the same. Obviously anything that involves physical prowess becomes improved to aid natural selection. We’re still people though, Esme. You have to believe me on that point.”
His eyes searched hers as she made her sudden realisation, his stomach contorting slightly at the hiss it provoked as she assumed her anger at him turning her. Why?
“I…” he was momentarily stumped by the question as it was one that had been going around his own head for the last few days whilst he watched her suffer. She half smiled at her. “I couldn’t let you die.”
For a moment his voice sounded heartfelt, something removed from the kind, patient tone he used every day. His voice rocked with emotion as he admitted his lack of will power in seeing her on the mortician’s table.
“I’ve been a doctor for years, I’ve seen hundreds of people die, but when they brought you in - I couldn’t. You deserve life, Esme. And this was the best I could do. I know that you are probably horrified by what I’ve done to you just now. But I want to mention, stress the point, that we’re not monsters. Everyday I use my enhanced gifts to save lives, I give back to the human community and exist to it as an outsider. Of course no one there can no of our true nature, but it is still a life.”

"Still people?" she questioned, her tone outraged. "How is that possible? People don't feed off blood. People don't have the abilities I now have. People have hearts. That beat, and pump blood." Her lips curled, baring her now extremely sharp teeth, she crouched low, feeling the urge to attack the man that spoke these unbelievable words.
Esme certainly did not feel like a human. How could she believe him? It wasn't logical that they were still considered human. But illogically, as she looked into the light eyes of his as she prepared to attack, she found herself wanting to believe Carlisle. The new emotion paused the previous need to attack, her newborn mind out of control.
She watched with curious eyes as he seemed to struggle to answer her question of why he had changed her. The curiosity pulled her from her crouched position. Why was she so important? She saw him smile, but didn't return it, as he answered her question. Her red eyes popped in shock at the doctor's answer.
"You should have let me die," she whispered, "It was what I had wanted." She shook her head from side to side, looking at the ground as she confessed her attempt at suicide.
Her caramel hair covered her face as her eyes bored into the ground, not looking at anything. She continued to listen to the doctor's words. She peeked up at him between the strands of hair. "I don't deserve life," she stated simply. She looked back at the ground in shame as he continued to speak. Her previous want to believe him was strengthened as he talked about his career.
Esme had completely forgotten that the vampire that stood before her was actually a doctor. Someone that assisted and cured humans, someone that was constantly around the tempting blood. This gave her hope that they weren't in fact monsters. At least he wasn't. She looked up at him, tucking her hair behind her ears.

Carlisle hurriedly prepared himself for attack, crouching a little in defence so that he could take the blow. He knew that it would be a heavy but uncontrolled attack, one which he could rebuff through his experience, not by brute strength. However, almost before he knew what was happening Esme had risen from her offensive crouch. He also allowed his own muscles to relax, just maintaining enough poise to defend himself if necessary. He didn’t answer her outraged question about whether they were still people, that was something she would discover for herself once the chaos of her newborn emotions was more under control. He couldn’t force her to change her mind, he could only guide it and trust that she was the kind of person to rise above the constraints of species and feral urges.
As Esme told the doctor that she wanted to die, that he should have let her go, a strange thing happened to his calm expression. First the confident smile fell, the corners of the lips pressing down, forcing them into a sad, straight line; the creases that appeared in the corners of his eyes when he smile straightened out and, finally, the warm caramel of his eyes changed. Where they had always been open and kind, they lost their confidence and their happiness - they became sad. The thought of leaving Esme left him with a hollow feeling in his chest, one that he had never experienced before and he didn’t entirely understand it. What he did understand, though, was that nothing much had affected him since he became a vampire, which was a part of becoming a frozen being, not even transforming Edward had affected him so, and that meant that this woman was to become something huge in his existence. He desperately did not what to lose her, nor did he want her to want to lose him.
Before he could stop himself he surged forwards, despite the fact that he was just as likely to get cause a violent outburst from the newborn vampire as acceptance. He placed his hand on her shoulder, gripping it tenderly without thought of his safety.
“Don’t say that, Esme,” he told her. “You deserve everything life can give you. Everyone deserves to live and to live in joy, but you deserve…” he trailed off, realising how far he was going here. “More.”

Esme watched Carlisle react to her words. His reaction wasn't one she had expected. She wasn't sure what she had expected from him, but it definitely wasn't the sadness she could now see change his face. Genuine sadness, that she didn't understand why he was feeling. Certainly it couldn't be from what she had just said, about what he should have done. What she had wanted.... But for whatever reason, the sadness that was expressed through his face pained Esme. She didn't want to see him sad, and her face fell in return to his own grief.
Unexpectedly she found Carlisle reaching out to her, putting an arm on her shoulder, and she reacted the only logical way her newborn mind could. Defensively. She shrugged her shoulder from his grip, and swiped his arm away with one of her own hands using extreme force. Her body crouched low to the ground as she backed away from him, her eyes darting around the surrounding forest. Her teeth were bared, and she let out a low, continuous, threatening growl. The reaction was the only one that made sense to the sudden touch from the doctor.
As Esme's eyes roved around the surroundings, and constantly to Carlisle, her body slowly eased from it's low, protective position. Her newborn mind noting that there was no danger from Carlisle. As Esme rose her expression was apologetic, but she didn't voice her apology as she listened to what Carlisle had said.
Her light colored brow furrowed at his words. "What can life offer me?" she questioned, "What more does it have to give?" Esme had thought she had already been given what people lived for in life; a husband, a child. Wasn't that all that there was to give? "What makes me so special that I should gain more from life?"

Carlisle immediately removed his arm from the vicinity of Esme’s personal space, annoyed at his own blunder. What was he thinking trying to get that close to such a new born vampire, he had never been so foolhardy with Edward. There was something about this gentle-looking, but deadly woman that seemed to alter the way that he thought. Of course he knew that he should be keeping his distance, that he should be being slow and patient with her development, but he increasingly found himself aching for a conversation with her. His arm swung around with a force that made him stagger backward despite his composure, but he soon righted himself, standing upright with open palms.
“I’m sorry, Esme,” he told her. “I shouldn’t have done that. It’s okay, I’m not going to hurt you.”
Happily Esme seemed to recover from her fit of defensive panic, quicker than Carlisle would have expected, though he didn’t close the gap between them. That was her decision now, he would allow her to come to him, he wouldn’t encroach on her. He extended a small smile to her as he recognised the apology in her crimson eyes and in her demeanour. It really was unusual to see such complex emotions gracing a newborn’s face. He thought carefully over her questions, not wanting to spook her more.
“Life has a lot to offer,” he raised his brows at her, inviting her to believe in what he was saying. “Even this life. It has the opportunity to help, to put wrongs to right, to experience all that there is to see and to feel. To love and be loved,” his thoughts moved to Edward, the first boy he had changed to a vampire. Though it hadn’t been too long since that event, compared to how long he had spent alone, Carlisle already had a place for him in his heart and considered him a son. “And I know that’s waiting for you.”
His stomach gave an odd flip as he said those words and he had to consciously stop his expression from changing. What was this?

Esme let her eyes roam around the surrounding forest as her ears tuned into the words Carlisle was saying. Her crimson eyes darted around, taking everything in at such a quick speed, she probably looked crazed because of the quick movements. But she could care less, looking at everything with new, enhanced eyes was distracting. Esme was able to see every minute detail. She found it hard to multitask with her newborn mind, but she did so successfully. She took in everything Carlisle had said about the gifts this life had to offer, and she let her eyes focus solely on his face.
She took a deep, unnecessary breath, tasting the surroundings on her tongue. She wasn't sure that she could believe the words that Carlisle spoke. It didn't seem believable, but coming out of his mouth, it was hard to doubt.
"Is it possible to love and be loved? When you're a vampire?" she asked, doubtful. It didn't seem entirely possible, or normal. The vampires of the stories she had heard and read didn't seem truly lovable. Though as she let her eyes lock gazes with the gold eyes of the vampire before her, the unusual feeling of before returned and she felt that it was possible.
She quickly pulled her eyes away from his, moving them to the top of a nearby tree as she asked her next question. "And how can you be so sure about what's waiting for me?" she asked, her eyebrows raised.
Esme wasn't too sure that she believed she had anything good waiting for her, she felt as though she had done something wrong in her previous life, could she possibly be getting a second chance? A chance in a completely different life? Or was this rather a punishment, that she would now be a monster, maybe not in how she behaved and acted, but a monster of stories and nightmares? She was unsure and the expression on her new, beautiful face showed that.

Opposed to Esme’s darting eyes, Carlisle kept his own amber gaze impeccably steady as he watched her, willing her to begin to accept herself and him. He knew it probably wouldn’t happen so quickly, though. It took a long time to gain Edward’s trust, not one day, and he could read his mind and sense the sincerity in his words. Esme just had to learn to trust him, and he supposed that it must be incredibly difficult to trust someone that had just turned you into a monster. He certainly hadn’t a good relationship with his own sire, but that was an entirely different situation. As Esme asked her challenging, but poignant question, he attempted to bolster up his display at confidence, inviting the young vampire to have faith in his words.
“It is absolutely possible,” he told her, his calm voice taking on a husky overtone of raw emotion. He paused, trying to reel in this new sensation and began again. “We feel more intensely than you could imagine, if you can believe it. As vampires we become frozen in place, very little affects us. Our personality traits and preferences remain constant throughout our lives, but emotions still have the power to change. If you find the right… person it is the greatest thing in the world. It’s the most powerful love story, because all those yearnings of new love never fade. Ever.”
He forced himself to come to a stop, the fervent tone of his voice becoming too much, and he knew it. What was it about this woman that affected him in such a manner? Why did he feel so… self-conscious when talking about love to her? Was that the dawning of hope in his heart as she locked eyes with him? He inhaled, knowing that he had to suppress whatever it was that he was feeling - at least for a few years until she truly knew her own mind. He continued to gaze at her steadily as she shifted her view up to the leafy canopy.
“I can’t be sure, of course,” he said, deliberately. “But I couldn’t bear seeing the deal that life had dealt you. I had to give you the opportunity for something better. There is one other than myself. We travel together and spend our time with each other as great friends. I would say that I would almost consider him a son and… well… if you wanted to, you would be more than welcome to join us as one of us. You wouldn’t be lonely or want for anything again.”
Other than blood.
He stared at the unsure expression, fretfully hoping that he hadn’t played the card too early. There was a chance that she was repulsed by him, by what he had done to her, that she would want to get as far away from him as possible. But all he had to offer her was the love of a home and a small close family.

Esme became silent, pausing momentarily to look at Carlisle. The words he spoke now were enough to make a women's heart skip a beat. It wasn't the words so much as it was the emotion and compassion packing into them. Though Esme's mind and body were new -the burn in her throat still there, the distractions all around- she could still sense the emotion Carlisle spoke with. The sentiment in those words was completely new to her, unlike anything she had ever witnessed or heard. But Esme could not react the way she might have if she wasn't a brand new vampire.
Rather, she was consumed with the confusion, her heart-shaped face cocked slightly to the side and her brow mashed together. She knew his words were true, she could still feel the same emotions she had been able to feel before she had become a vampire, but they were stronger. A lot more intense, and right now annoyingly uncontrollable. She wondered why Carlisle spoke with such extreme emotion, nothing seemed to make sense to her.
Esme hoped that one day she would one day love someone the way Carlisle explained their kind loved. But she couldn't picture it right now, it still didn't seem entirely possible. "Have you ever loved someone in such a way?" she asked. She found that the simple question evoked a certain hope that he would say no, and the distemper it would cause if he said yes. Her hands balled up and her face puckered in frustration as she waited for an answer. The reaction completely instinctive and uncontrollable, her body reacting completely to the emotions she now felt.
Esme expression remain unchanged as she looked at Carlisle now as he spoke of another one of their kind; she wondered idly how many of them existed in this world. Esme's face smoothed out as Carlisle mentioned her being welcome to join them. She nodded her head, she knew she would stay with them. She didn't want to be alone, she couldn't bare to be alone now. She felt unusually drawn to Carlisle and the words he spoke, she didn't want to leave.

All the while Carlisle spoke to Esme, trying to persuade her of feelings strong but controlled, such that she probably couldn’t even fathom at the moment, he continued to watch her closely. He wasn’t even looking for risk of attack now, he was checking for acceptance, though he would be immensely impressed if she did manage to take in what he said so early in her vampire life. He could see the flitting attention span, the confusion and he knew that it would be a long time before he managed to convince her completely, though that she hadn’t launched herself at him was also commendable. He kept his own expression open and approachable, trying to show her with every facet of his face that he would be there for her. That was if she could understand it in her accelerated state of mind. A small smile poked at the very corners of his lips as Esme asked him the personal question - he didn’t mind, he was just interested to see what her response would be.
“No,” he told her, smoothly, shaking his head once. “It’s not something I have ever come across so far, but it will.” He sounded very self-assured, and as he said it he knew that it would happen and soon - if he was human, his heart would be racing in anticipation. As it was, he was not, and thus his perfectly serene poker face remained steady. His eyes swept down her form, taking in the clenched fists and her pouting lips, his own blond brows raising in a questioning manner.
“I have seen it in others, though,” he added, quickly. He didn’t want her to feel that he was spinning her tall tales, he didn’t want to break the fragile trust that he could see beginning to form between them.
A smile grew on his face as she nodded in acceptance of his invitation to travel with himself and Edward - it didn’t even seem to take her any time to decide, which really was outstanding for such a new vampire. He couldn’t imagine how there was lack enough of conflicting ideas going around her head to allow her to make such a defined decision. The pleasure at her decision wasn’t entirely clinical, though, he could already feel that, though he still didn’t know what to really think about it.
“It will be a pleasure to have you with us then, Esme,” he told her, his voice smouldering with sincerity and genuine delight.

It was an unusual sense of relief that coursed through her. She was almost glad that he had said no. Though as he continued to speak, she paid attention to the way his words sounded confident and assured. "Does it happen to everyone?" Esme asked, glancing around the foliage.
She took a couple slow paced steps deeper into the surrounding forest. Taking a deep breath she tasted the air. She could smell everything, taste it all on her tongue. She recognized all the scents of the forest, but there was also an extra, sweet smell. But she couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. Esme nodded her head as Carlisle added that he had seen it in others, letting herself explore further into the trees.
"Mhm," Esme murmured, reaching out and touching the bark of a near bye tree. It was different touching things now. As was everything else. So she shouldn't have been surprised that she could feel every raised bump of the park, every tiny mark. She quickly yanked her hand away, hissing quietly, a reaction to the shock. She reached a hand out to claw at the cause of the shock, letting her cold fingers rip through the flesh of the tree.
Once satisfied she let her hand fall back to her side. She turned to glance back at Carlisle. "Where is this other...guy...you talk about traveling with?" Esme asked.

Carlisle’s eyes crinkled with the smile he extended toward Esme as he realised that he was actually keeping her concentration quite well, all things considered. It was odd, really, he had assumed she would be more focused upon what she had become, the way they fed, what could hurt them; he had expected to do a lot of myth busting, but it seemed that Esme’s main focus was on love. She had a big heart, it seemed, even as a vampire - he expected that if he told her that there was no way to fulfill that yearning to love then it would break her. Happily, he didn’t have to.
“It’s the same as human love, as far as finding it is concerned,” he told her, keeping his voice gentle, though the heartfelt tone still coloured it. “If we find the right person then the bond is usually permanent, though animal instincts can occasionally take over… As immortal beings, though, we tend to have a longer time to find the one that we are made for.”
He did have quite a romantic view of life. After he had seen the special and specific love that could form between two monsters, whose main role in life was to kill, he had to believe that love was an emotion that burned stronger than all else. Otherwise vampire mates would just tear themselves apart - not that that sometimes didn’t happen. He looked at her sympathetically, noticing her shock as she explored her new enhanced senses. He took the opportunity to approach, slowly, going to a tree not far from hers, just a few metres.
“It can be very confusing at first, overwhelming - the new senses and everything else,” he reached out and lay his hand on the tree trunk, all the little details so natural to him now. He could still remember the first time he had touched something with his new senses, but everything was so overwhelming… it had all come at once and he understood none of it. At least he could help her with the technical stuff.
“He - Edward - he’s been away hunting for the past few days, but he should be back any time now. We live in the same house that you awoke in.”
