Edward watched as Bella smiled as he mentioned his upbringing to her. He felt oddly free in talking to her, now that she knew who he was. He usually would shy away from talking about his family, or the way he was raised, knowing that it would all only be a lie. There was only a few facts about the other Cullens he could share, and the town already knew them. But with her, he didn't have to watch for a slip of the tongue.
Edward then held his breath as she moved onto her knees and closed the distance between them. He remained still allowing her to do the moving. He was so still that although he saw when she started to lose her balance, he wasn't able to move himself to catch her, for fear of what would happen after he caught her. That didn't stop him from giving a light laugh. "As hard as you or your car may try to intimidate me, its just not working"
Edward listened carefully as Bella gave one example of what she could say to Jessica. He couldn't help but give a half smirk as she mentioned him spending the night, but adding that she had no idea what was going on herself. "Well that is certainly one approach. You will certainly be popular with the gossip queen tomorrow" He said, almost feeling bad for her, since he was the cause of this.

Sat securely on the bed once more, Bella folded her arms and gave Edward an extra evil stare, but it just expressed itself as a squinty, lopsided look, and she knew it. She sighed deeply and allowed her arms to flop down on to her knees, the safe distance once more re-established between them, though she didn’t yet know just how much of a temptation her specific blood was to him. She pulled out other arguments in her head about the worth of her truck verses his flashy Volvo, but she knew it was useless. He liked the speed and the slinkiness of the newer model and she couldn’t see herself being able to sway him away from that. Not with the speed that she had seen him drive that night - it almost made her shudder just to think of it!
She groaned again as Edward referenced her friend as ’the gossip queen’, knowing that this would take some thinking about. She would need some good enough gossip to warrant blowing her and Angela off, other wise she would never be forgiven. On the other hand, she didn’t want to be the talk of the their group for even the duration of one class - and she certainly didn’t want to give them the wrong idea about her relationship with Edward Cullen. The only issue she had with that was that she didn’t really know where they stood now. He had offered to take her somewhere to see him in the sunlight - she tingled with anticipation of the event, though she had no idea what to expect - but did that count as a date or something? She doubted it, it would be far, far bigger than a date. If it ever happened.
It felt like they had turned a corner that night in Port Angeles, Edward had really opened up and actually allowed her to question him and now Bella feared that when she woke up in the morning she would discover it was all a dream. She flopped back on the bed, curling around so she could see him properly.
“You can at least give me a clue - you heard what she was thinking - what does she want to know?” she suppressed a yawn, tired despite her reluctance to give in to unconsciousness once more.

Edward watched her a bit amused as she tried to appear tough looking (at least thats what he imagined she was attempting to do but failing miserably). It was very cute. He wondered if he should humor her and pretend to back down a bit. But the smirk on his face only showed his amusement with the situation as she appeared to give up her efforts. "It was a nice try" He said encouragingly to her.
"Hmmm" Edward said, debating whether or not to give her the information that she sought about Jessica. "I suppose that's fair, since you're the one who has to deal with her. She's going to ambush you in class"
Edward took a deep breath, feeling the pain from her scent in his throat. "She wants to know if we're secretly dating and how you feel about me" He told her slowly, wishing he knew her thoughts right now. He wanted to know her first reaction to these questions, not some edited version that she'd end up telling Jessica. "What are you going to tell her?"

Bella looked up from her defeated position and gave Edward a mock confident look as he complimented her effort. In that moment, as she stared at him from under her lashes, it hit her once more. He was sat on her bed in the middle of the night and they were just chatting. It was something she had never ever thought would happen, and something she had craved before she had even known it, from the day that they had caught each other staring in the cafeteria. Her stomach gave a little flip of pleasure at the thought and her smile curled up to spoil her smooth confidence and turn it into a delighted grin.
“I’ll get you next time,” she promised him, twisting lips so that they didn’t betray her pleasure at considering a ‘next time’. She couldn’t stop the automatic response in her system, though, and cursed her blush as it crept over her cheeks once more. How was she ever going to pretend to outdo Edward if she turned into a tomato every time he looked at her?
She grinned up at him, excitedly, as he decided to share his insights into Jessica’s mind with her. That would make things so much easier - or so she thought. She lay still in her curled up position, her half-dried hair splayed out over the covers, brown eyes staring up at Edward, taking in his words, but also how his figure looked from such an unusual angle. She decided she liked his jaw. She also decided that she was terrible and that she was glad that he couldn’t read her mind. That would be mortifying. She didn’t answer Edward’s question for a few moments, trying to think it through. She bit her bottom lip and finally shifted to prop herself up on her elbow, her brown eyes big, innocent and pleading.
“I uhh… don’t know,” she half-stammered, knowing that her heart was being a terrible traitor to the pleasure that the thought gave her. She could feel it speed up and splutter hyperactively as her imagination took her to countless rendezvous with Edward. She let out her breath, realising that she hadn’t for quite sometime and cursed the heat on her cheeks once more. “What do you… think about… it?”

As Edward watched her staring up at him from where she lay on her bed, he wondered if perhaps he should not be here right now. It was definitely testing his discipline to be this close to her and not try anything (as either a man or a vampire). But also he was reminded of what he was interupting; normal human sleep cycles. He didn't want to be keeping her if her body required sleep.
"If you're tired, I don't have to stay" Edward said softly, assuming that since she now knew he was here that she wouldnt feel comfortable with the idea of him staying. He was actually a bit surprised that she didn't seem more shocked by his presence in her room in the first place.
As he waited to hear the answers that she would tell Jessica he felt nervous, hoping that this would give him the insight to her thoughts that he had been longing for. But her answer instead only prodded him to reveal his feelings and intentions first. He paused for a moment wondering what to say. Should he be responsible and do the right thing, or should he go with his heart that was for the first time making him feel like he had a reason to still be here.
"I suppose you could say yes to the first, if that is alright with you" Edward said, not wanting her to feel that she was obligated to agree with his wishes on the situation. It had been a lot for her to learn today, he wouldnt be upset with her if she decided to just run from him. "As for her other question...I can't say how you should answer that, but I'll be listening for that answer myself"

Immediately Bella’s face dropped into an almost desperate expression, one that came too quick for her to control. She cringed as she knew she look made her appear as desperate for his company as she was - a fact that she was not too keen on sharing so fully given their recentness of their new amicable relationship. Too late now, though. Her hand immediately shot forward toward his arm, but she stopped herself from making contact, she’d seen that he didn’t like it when she did that.
“Don’t go,” she uttered, instead, just about stopping herself from raising her voice over Charlie’s snores. She allowed her hand to fall back, forcing herself to breathe normally in an attempt to stop her heart from bouncing around her ribcage. Discovering that he was in her room had been a shocking, but pleasant surprise for Bella, she had extended no thoughts in the direction that he was there to harm her in any way, she saw it as bonus time from their day, which had ended far too swiftly for her liking.
“I’m not tired,” she lied, hoping she was being convincing, she wasn’t exactly an expert in deceit, yet. “I, uh, fell asleep pretty early, so this is just eight pm, or something… I had assignment…” she glanced around at her desk, where her project lay untouched and her nose wrinkled a little. Hopefully she had gained enough of a good reputation to owe her one lapse.
She listened with bated breath as it became clear that Edward was actually going to help her, let her in on what he would prefer. She could barely bring herself to exhale in case she should shatter the impossibly perfect words that uttered from his mouth. He wanted her to agree? He wanted her to agree! Her heart thudded obnoxiously against anything it could possibly find in her chest so loudly that she was surprised Charlie was still sleeping so soundly.
“Okay,” she said, slowly, clearly trying to gain some kind of purchase on her voice as she melted away into bliss. She nodded, trying to look objective despite her tomato red face and the faintness of her voice. “I can say yes to the - uh - the… first… That’s fine.”
She shot him a look as he told her he’d be listening in for the rest, her mind immediately trying to figure out a way to avoid saying anything too embarrassing - he may not be able to read her mind, but he could read Jessica’s.

Edward was surprised by the panic he saw on Bella's face as he mentioned that he could leave if she needed him to. It was that expression that he expected to see when she first caught him in her room, or after she first put the pieces together about him. She should have felt relief when he volunteered to leave. She should have felt safer then. His body stiffened as her hand started to reach out for him, but he relaxed as she stopped herself. He also felt guilty that she needed to pull back because of his uncomfortableness. She wouldnt need to do that around Mike Newton.
"I'll stay as long as you want me to" Edward told her softly. Normally he'd stay all night, leaving only minutes before she usually got up for the day. But with her knowing he was there, he hadn't known if he should still be staying. He smiled as she tried to convince him that she wasnt tired, even though he knew it was a lie. While he may not be tired, he knew humans required lots of sleep. "If you get tired, please do not stay awake on my account"
Edward watched Bella's face as he spoke to her, trying to study her reactions. Not being able to hear her thoughts he needed to determine everything from the slightest change in facial expression. He wasn't nearly as good at this, but knew he'd be practicing so that he could know her thoughts better, even without hearing them. He could hear her heartbeat race and get louder as he told her she could agree. Was her heart reacting that way out of fear? anxiousness? excitement? Human reactions could be so confusing, especially when he couldnt hear her thoughts, but he started to think that she was agreeing with what he said. If he had a pulse it would have started racing now as well.
He smiled lightly as she agreed to his first idea. "If you're sure..." He said, enjoying the idea that she agreed, but needing to be sure it was something she wanted as well. His smile wided in response to the look she gave him when she found out he'd be listening for her other answer. He may not know her thoughts, but that expression was almost as good as hearing them himself.

As soon as Edward responded to Bella’s pathetic plea for him to stay, she felt a surge of relief flood her system and an answering smile. She would never have thought that she would be the type of girl to fall in love so quickly and completely. In fact, before meeting Edward, she had thought that she would never find love at an early age and she was fine with that, she had just never really been drawn to any particular boy in that way. Before now. She wondered if he would agree to staying forever.
With the mention of her tiredness, Bella averted her eyes. Though she didn’t want it to, she could feel the heaviness creeping back into her eyelids and her limbs, making them heavy and cumbersome. However, she was also still running on delighted adrenaline at the thought of Edward being in her room, which was making her brain decidedly more awake.
“Thank you,” she uttered in response. She knew she would be able to sleep with him there, whilst it pleased her to the point of exhilaration, he already seemed to fit naturally into her living space. Well, not quite. Maybe it seemed he fit so naturally, because he looked so unnatural everywhere else - in her bedroom nothing matched, with half her furniture being as old as she was. Looking up at his magnificently beautiful face once more, her stomach contracted and her internal organ spasmed in delight. Though as she subsequently noticed how directly he was looking at - almost into - her, a slow blush stole over her skin again. They really were coming in waves tonight!
“Absolutely sure,” she almost whispered, her tone ringing with sincerity. Now that she had already agreed to his proposal and seemed pleased with her acceptance, she felt slightly less insecure about committing to it properly. She wondered, as she looked directly up at him once more, whether they would ever be anything more than what they were now… whatever that was. What were they? An ill-advised couple of friends pretending to be dating to hide a big secret? Sounded complicated when she thought about it like that, but as she got lost in those enchanting golden eyes, nothing was complicated anymore. She inhaled, her smile responding to his automatically. She wondered idly what the time was, how long it was until she had to get up, but she couldn’t tear her eyes away from him. She barely minded that she was staring anymore!

Edward watched Bella's eyes shift as he mentioned sleep to her once more. It was obvious now that she was tired, but it also seemed that she was trying to fight it, wanting to stay awake with him. Against his better judgement of providing for her human needs, he stayed selfish and dropped the subject, not wanting her to sleep right now, instead enjoyiing their private conversation. He knew she would be drawn to sleep soon enough, he didn't need to push it on her too soon.
"You're welcome" He told her with a smile, thinking that she had no reason to thank him for this or anything else. The largest gesture of kindness on his part would be nothing compared to the danger he put her in at every moment. He should be thanking her repeatedly for allowing him to stay in her presence. For not looking at him with complete fear and repulsion after knowing what he was. And mostly for still managing to melt his cold heart with every look.
"Good" He replied with a smile as she stated that she was sure that she didn't mind agreeing to telling Jessica Stanley that they were secretly dating. He liked not even seeing a hint of doubt about her minding people thinking that about them. He watched her looking at him, her soulful eyes seeming very attentive despite the hour of night. He wished he could hear what was going through her mind right now, unable to decipher it from her angelic face. He'd have to settle with asking, keeping his tone soft and unintrusive. "What you thinking right now? "

Bella’s eyes shot to Edward’s own unafraid of the eye contact with him, in fact, drawn in by it as he asked her what she was thinking. A warm hue filled her face, her eyelashes falling to obscure her large eyes partially out of a becoming bashfulness. That was such a personal question, even thinking about egg mayonnaise sandwiches would have been embarrassing, but her thoughts were entirely consumed with thoughts of Edward. How could she tell him that he had been the only thing on her mind since that first biology lesson so long ago? She pulled her bottom lip in between her teeth and looked at him guiltily. There was no pretending it was sandwiches now, she might as well give the game away.
“I was just thinking,” she told him, her cheeks staining even more as the words assembled themselves in her head ready for speech. “I was just thinking that I don’t mind staring at you… anymore. Aaaand now I’m thinking that I’m an idiot.”
A strangled squeak of disbelief that she had actually said that out loud emanated from somewhere in her throat and her hands raised up to hide her rosy face. splitting the fingers on one of her hands, she eyes Edward from behind the little shield. She supposed the forward question was because he was so used to knowing what everyone was thinking, but that didn’t mean that he was getting away with not returning the favour for her. “How about you, what’re you thinking?”

Her eyes left his the moment that Edward asked her what she was thinking. Was it too personal? Was she going to be put off by his asking? He wasn’t used to needing to ask anyone about their thoughts, unless he had purposely blocked himself off from them. His eyes drifted to her teeth pressing against her bottom lip and he took an intake of air to keep this lungs filled as he cut himself off from breathing while he watched to see if the teeth would pierce the skin. He couldn’t believe that he was so horrible to be putting her in this much danger. He knew he’d have to run out if even a drop of blood was shed, but perhaps he wouldn’t even be strong enough to have the will power to do that knowing how enticing her scent was.
Luckily her voice broke through to distract him from his violent thoughts, thoughts that weren’t appropriate in her presence. There was no blood and he was able to exhale as he listened to her response. He smiled at her answer, she didn’t mind staring at him. And it turned into a smirk as she mentioned now feeling like an idiot. “You’re not an idiot” He assured her, thinking she was a very intelligent woman but lacked a survival instinct.
He smiled gently at her as she created the shield from her face, peering out at him from between her fingers. He then let out a laugh as she turned the question around on him, something else he wasn’t used to but he figured it was fair enough. She put him on equal ground, if she was to be asked this question, he deserved to have to ask that too. “I’m thinking…that I don’t know how you can not mind staring at me with all you know” He told her. “And that I could stare at you for the rest of my existence, or however long I could before you got uncomfortable”

Bella’s eyes remained almost ever present on the shifting nature of Edward’s smile, noticing how it began pleasant, turned to a smirk and then transformed into one of gentleness as she peered at him through her fingers. Each and every contortion his lips went through sent pleasant shivers through her system. She never wanted to tear her eyes from his perfection. Ever.
Allowing her finger shield to fall into her lap, she now watched Edward carefully for his answer t his own question. She was still revelling in the fact that he was even there, in her room, alone, with her – she could barely fathom how someone like her had even got the opportunity to ask a man, a being, such as Edward what he was thinking. She held her breath in anticipation of his response, desperate to know, but simultaneously fearing that she wouldn’t be a feature. She hadn’t even considered the fact that he might have been thinking of her blood.
“Oh,” it wasn’t really a word that escaped Bella’s slightly parted lips, but something between a word and a gasp. Her head reeled with the impossible knowledge that not only was she a feature of Edward’s current thoughts, but also that he wanted to keep her there. Dizziness surged through her brain and she gasped, realising that she had forgotten to breathe again once he had given his answer. She took a few moments to catch her breath again, blushing. “I… well, I already said it doesn’t matter what you are. You’re still you; you’re still Edward, and that makes it…” she trailed off, not wanting to gush about his assets while he was sat right in front of her.
Her dark eyes flicked down to her lap, then back up to the stunning vampire before her. “Don’t you mean for the rest of my existence?” she asked, her knowledge of what he was compared to bringing to her attention the wretched difference in the aging process. A flicker of sadness washed across her face as something almost akin to loss stormed her chest.

Edward wasn’t used to being so open and honest with a human. The only people he ever truly spoke candidly with were in his family. Anyone he went to school with or from the towns they stayed in, they knew the lies, the façade he created. That façade did not include his true feelings, and certainly would not involve admitting his attraction to a human, and the fact that he enjoyed staring at her (but after having been caught watching her sleep, could that be a surprise to the young Swan girl?).
As Edward watched her reaction to his words, he saw that yes, in fact, it did appear as though his words were not expected by her. He wondered what she would have thought he’d be thinking. There were so many minor thoughts occurring in her brain that he would have loved to hear, to gather her thought process and be able to anticipate what was coming next and how she really felt about things, and him.
Edward looked at her with confusion as she told him again that it didn’t matter what he was. He wondered if she did truly understand what he was yet. If she did, surely she would care. He would have to show her, someplace private where she could see the extent of it, what it truly meant, and where she could see why she should be afraid of him right now, not looking at him with those trusting eyes. “I don’t know how you can say it doesn’t matter…I’m not like you,”
Edward watched as her eyes lowered again down to her lap, before returning up to his, questioning his choice of wording. The truth was, he didn’t know how he’d have an existence after hers. Before he met her, he hadn’t known what he was missing but now, the feelings were there, the draw had taken him over. He knew it was too soon to admit these kinds of thoughts to her, so brushed off his remark as best he could. “I don’t think we’ll have to worry about my wording, you’ll be seeing my behavior as stalker like soon enough if I don’t stop staring…it could make school and dinner with your father rather awkward” he said with a smirk.

Bella shook her head, her tangled hair shifting around her face as she did so with the intensity of the motion. She had a good impression of what Edward was and of what it involved, though perhaps at this stage her mind could not quite grasp all the implications. However, she knew, intrinsically, that Edward would not hurt her, she trusted him to the point of recklessness. If it had been a regular human that she had caught watching her sleep unawares – like Mike Newton – she would have yelled for Charlie straight away. It wasn’t that Edward was a vampire that was stopping her from doing the same to him, it was the fact that she felt so safe with him that she knew it would be a loss for him to be gone and never an inconvenience for him to be there.
“I don’t care,” she told him, stubbornly, her wide, chocolate eyes staring directly into his. It seemed that when she was being defiant she had much more power to look into those dazzling amber eyes. Right now she wanted to convince him that she wasn’t scared of him, she wasn’t even weirded out by him being there in her room with her. She half smiled at him and tilted her head. “Besides, not many people are like me.”
It was true, more true than she was currently letting on to Edward. She was clumsier than most, that was an obvious point in which she stood out, she was never at home in Phoenix, where the girls were all athletic and tanned, even her own mother said that she acted more like the mom than the daughter. She was mature for her years and had an appreciation for the classics, she’d always felt like she was the odd one out at any party and, as well as the fact that she knew that she would more than likely fall flat on her face if she went to one, that was another reason that she avoided most social events like proms and other dances.
Coming out of her slight reverie, she extended him a slight apologetic look for having gotten caught up in her private thoughts. She just hoped that he would be able to accept that she would never fear him or fear to be with him or his family. She wanted to be close to him despite what he was, what that involved and what he thought was best for her; she only hoped that he would allow it and that he wanted that too.
Another blush stole over Bella’s features as Edward brushed off her comment and he succeeded in distracting her from the existence debate for the moment. However, even as she coloured with the thought of what he was saying, a low laugh escaped her as well. She grinned back at him, a challenging look in her brown eyes.
“Oh well, I’m sure Charlie would get over it. Either that or he might finally get a chance to fire up the old shotgun,” she attempted to suppress a small shudder at the thought of Charlie actually turning the weapon on Edward, even if she wasn’t sure how much damage it would do. “But then, seen as you saved my life, I think I owe you a stalking… or a stalkee.”

"You should care" Edward said, his voice a little more insistent, and losing the gentle sound he had tried to keep there with her. As much as he didn't want her fearing him, for selfish reasons of his own desire to be near her, he knew that she should. It would be in her best interest if she saw him for what he was and kept her distance, or at least kept up some sort of defense system, instead of her open acceptance with him for what he was. He knew it wasn't a good thing for her, and he feared the day when it would catch up to her, and she'd end up hurt because he had gotten involved in her life. He could feel it as if it would be inevitable. He should not be getting involved with a human, Rosalie could tell him that much, but yet he stayed in her room. He tormented himself with the difficulties of being near her when he desired her so deeply.
His determination returned to another half smile at her next words. She was right about that, his inability to read her thoughts, her acceptance, her beauty and intelligence, her scent, and the way she made him feel all made her unique. "I have never met another person like you Bella, in all my years of existence"
Her almost ever present blush was an attraction for him. So unique, and something he could never hope to possess himself. Her laugh was just as beautiful and melodic, with grin to match its allure. He chuckled as she proposed the idea of Charlie using his shotgun on him. The idea of being shot was one he wasn't the slightest bit worried about, knowing he wouldnt be hurt. If only it were that easy to die, he knew Carlisle would have done it before he even met Edward. His grin turned to a smile as she told him she owed him a stalkee for saving her life. "You don't owe me a thing...but if you can put up with my stalking, all the better for me"
