[Post Breaking Dawn - Claire age 14] Ambulances definitely had a cool factor that Claire would have been able to appreciate better if she weren't strapped to the gurney, shaking in pain. They tiny space was filled with medical things she couldn't pronounce, with beeping machines and random gadgets. It was almost like being in a spaceship. But her throat was burning from the effort of trying to hold back the sobs, the tears running freely against her skin that was pale from the pain, shock, and anger. Yes, anger because now she was gonna be benched from games for who knows how long. Angry that that stupid girl on the other team was the size of a house, had fouled her and she had to practically wave her broken arm at the ref in order for him to take out his red card. And still, at the end of the day, she was going to have at least 5 people flipping out over her.
She had convinced her mother that soccer was just a bunch of running and kicking; nothing too serious. Claire now had to readjust her strategy before Rayen or Quil had her trapped in a bubble for the rest of her life. She gasped sharply as the paramedic stuck a needle in her arm, and was glad that she had made everyone drive together to the hospital instead of riding with her there. They would have been babying her with every wince and moan. It wasn't that bad though... except for when she moved the tiniest bit. Ugh.
Claire wasn't sure how long the ride to the hospital was, but she was infinitely glad to see the doors open, facing the entrance. She let her head fall back onto the stiff pillow with a new set of tears streaking her face. This day was gonna suck.[Roll call! Chase, Qwil, Rayen and whoever would have been at Claire's soccer game ]

Rayen had stood on many side lines in her life the majority of them had been to watch Tai during high school, but now he was stood next to her and together they watched their daughter play soccer. Rayen wasn’t sure what Tai thought of his daughter playing soccer, she wondered if he wished for a boy and football or if that would be too painful. Every time Claire ran into get the ball Rayen felt her own body tense ready for the hit, Claire had lied; this was a dangerous sport. If she could Rayen would take the blows herself out on the field, anything to protect her baby. There were two reasons she couldn’t do that; they don’t let moms out on the field and she had another baby to protect now. It was her secret for now, but this time she would willingly share it with Tai as soon as they were alone after the game; she’d done the test that morning.
Holding her coat tighter around her; hugging her tummy, she concentrated back on the game and Claire. Rayen assessed the other team, all fairly matched to their team and her daughter. There was one girl who was easily twice her little ones size and she was charging down the field right at Claire.
It all happened so fast, too quick to react, but not to quick for her to cry out and run towards the field. She wasn’t sure what happened after that; she remembered a red card and flashing lights. Arms clutched at her, but all Rayen wanted to do was reach for Claire and hold her. It tore her apart to see her baby in pain.
Following the stretcher to the waiting ambulance she asked over and over to go with her, but Claire was tough and stubborn. Rayen liked to think that came from her, but right now she wished it wasn’t a passed on trait. It hurt to not go with her. Claire was growing up and Rayen didn’t like that no matter how much it was inevitable, didn’t mean Rayen had to like it. She was holding it together, no tears just concern and worry, but she could feel the tears building every minute since the accident.
The EMT slammed the doors shut just as the flood gates opened on Rayen’s tears. Silently spilled down her cheeks as she fished in her pocket for her key and turn away from the leaving ambulance, she had to get to her car. Claire needed her at the hospital and she needed to get there. She staggered slightly with the tears blurring her vision and all her energy spent on worry, she knew she wasn’t in a fit state to drive.
Though she had never been alone in the raising of Claire, she always had Emily; she had usually dealt with crisis like this alone. Not now though, over the last few years Tai had taken to his role in their family just as it should have always been. Now she needed him and she wasn’t ashamed or afraid to ask.
“Tai?” She called in a murmur that was quickly followed by more tears and sobs. She still clutched the keys as she looked for him. He wasn’t far from her, nor was Quil. She looked at them through the blur of her eyes, she couldn’t smile but she was glad they were both there.

Quil had been as nervous about Claire playing soccer as Rayen had been. But it made Claire happy, so of course Quil hadn't fought it much. But every game or practice made him nervous. Today was the same, except he had a bad feeling, nothing concrete enough to say anything but just a nervous twinge at the back of his neck telling something was wrong. Like a spidey sense warning him of danger to come.
Quil stood on the sidelines with Rayen and Tai, cheering on the girl he loved. He thought that she was doing well, and seemed to be having fun, but then he saw the larger girl coming at Claire. His muscles tensed up even before the blow. It was all he could do to stop from phasing in front of everyone and running out on the field. Seeing that Claire was in pain was the hardest thing in the world for him. Even harder than supressing the wolf that wanted to come out. He knew that it would only ruin things for Claire to have her friend turn into an animal at her game. He couldn't put her through that no matter how much his instinct was to protect her. He had to control himself.
Quil was right beside Rayen the whole time, wishing that Claire would have allowed one of them to go with her in the ambulance so that she wasn't alone. Claire could be so stubborn when she wanted to. As he watched the ambulance pull away, Quil's hands remained in clenched fists at his side, his whole body still shaking as he fought off the phase. He was in no condition to get behind a wheel right now and was grateful that Rayen was here with her car. "Can I ride with you..." He asked softly, trying to control his voice as well as his body.

As Tai stood on the sidelines of the pitch that he had played on hundreds of times in his own youth, this time watching his daughter play soccer, he couldn’t help but feel wary. Claire had played in a few games, but he’d made excuses, but this was her big day, and he was sure that he could overcome the bitterness of memories by watching his Claire kick ass. And he was right, he soon got into the game, though soccer was much less his forte than football was. Then again, could he really watch his little girl walk into the jaws of danger in the same way he had? Probably not, soccer was a much gentler sport, especially at high school and in an all-girl team. Or at least these were the thoughts that stopped him actively twitching in anticipation of something going wrong.
Tai leaned his full weight on his cane, not wanting to have to resort to sitting like a dork. He had come a long way in accepting his injury and what it meant for him. Rekindling his relationship with Rayen, discovering Claire, they had both helped him immensely, but he still found it difficult to admit when he was weaker than he should be. His right hand he rested gently on Rayen’s arm, not even realising it – his affection to her came naturally now, though they did try to play it down a little for Claire’s sake.
His eyes never left the game and he cheered appropriately for a dad, which meant that he had a full view of the bad tackle. His heart dropped immediately and his stomach turned as he watched his daughter drop to the ground and writhe for attention before anything was done. It wasn’t all that long, in reality, before the ambulance and paramedics took over and the little band of family were told stubbornly to travel to the hospital themselves. Still, in Tai’s head it might as well have been forever. He remembered the eternity that the pain had made him feel when he had shattered his kneecap all those years ago, but that was going to do no good to think about it – it was highly unlikely that Claire had anything more than a fractured arm. He focused on that fact, and upon trying to comfort Rayen, he was her main priority now that Claire was being taken care of.
He looked down at Rayen, seeing the streaming tears running down her face and he gently pulled her to him with his free arm, leaning his cane against the car so that he could hug her properly. He kissed her on the top of her head and directed her face towards him. “She’s going to be fine, Ray,” he gave her a look that was meant just for them, one that he intended to show that he understood, that they were one on this. It contained all the intense love he felt for his little family, but there was something around the eyes that betrayed that same closed off expression that it had taken Rayen years to wipe off his face completely. “Of course I can drive.”
He kissed her once more and turned to Quil. He wasn’t too hot on the idea of this boy being ‘destined’ for his Claire, it seemed like a disaster waiting to happen, and he wasn’t too sure about the whole wolf thing either. But, he knew that he was a good kid, he treated Claire right and appropriately, and since he had started living with him, Tai had come much more to terms with Quil’s place in his daughter’s life. Thus, when the teenager asked for a ride, Tai gave him a curt nod, taking the keys from Rayen, picking up his cane and making his way over to the driver’s side. He, rather awkwardly, got into the drivers seat, passing his cane through to Quil in the back of the car and resisted grimacing as he had to push the seat back with the force of his legs.
Within minutes they were on the road, following the ambulance all the way to Forks hospital, never losing sight of their little girl that they trusted to it. As they parked in the moderately busy car park of the hospital, Tai turned to his girlfriend and put a hand on her knee, giving it a little squeeze. “Go, I’ll be along in a minute.”
He knew that she (and Quil) would be desperate to run to Claire’s side, not that he wasn’t, but he would just hold them up. He would follow them in at a slower pace.

Just as he was finishing up with one of his patients, Laurence was approached by one of the nurses who told him to come over and listen to the paramedics calling in about the patient they were bringing. It was a minor trauma and the nurse thought it would be good experience for Laurence. He took notes as he listened to the EMTs give out the information, a girl age 14 had been hit at a soccer game, arm injury, vitals were stable, patient was conscious, ETA 5 minutes. Laurence went over to the first curtain area that was available and started getting things set up. He had gauze ready in case their was an open wound. Otoscope and opthalmascope to check the eyes and ears in case there was a head trauma. He had even called down to radiology to alert them he'd be bringing a patient down shortly so that he wouldnt have to wait once she was here. Hopefully it was nothing more serious, but you could never tell over the radios. What sometimes seemed minor could end up something more serious.
Laurence took a moment to look around the room making sure he had everything set up he needed before he heard the paramedics opening the door and the familiar sound of the stretcher wheels hitting the floor. Laurence went out to greet his patient and check on her status. The first thing that pleased him was seeing that she was awake and alert.
"Hi I'm Dr. Chambers, what's your name?" He asked her softly, with a hint of his australian accent, but seeing her age, not speaking down to her like a child. She was old enough that she'd probably be insulted by the tone many doctors used with any patient under 18. He took his place on the other side of the stretcher as he led the EMTs to the area he had prepared for her.

The small stroll into the emergency room was a blur, the shock of the hit and break was wearing off and the pain in her arm was beginning to be unbearable. Claire's vision was rubbish as the tears began to overflow and she allowed herself to cry silently. The blinding lights of the sterile facility coming and going above her as she stare at the ceiling finally reminded her where she was. There were sick people here; people with gross infections, people dying. Needles and knives. Her delicate face scrunched up in a silent sob, finally embracing the fear she had kept at bay. She didn't want needles or stitches or whatever it was they were going to give her, and she finally admitted that she wanted her mom; Quil would be even better.
She lifted her unbroken arm to wipe the tears off her face when she heard a gentle, foreign voice introduce himself and ask about her. She looked up and saw a handsome doctor introducing himself as Dr. Somethingawesomeoranother. Claire had certainly noticed boys by now, though wasn't quite aware if they had noticed her. Some of her guy friends liked that she played soccer and they hung out a lot, but they usually asked about her girlfriends; never her. Some of the color she had lost from the shock suddenly reappeared in her cheeks while the handsome doctor talked to her. "Claire Titan," she responded softly, trying to hold back the pain that was throbbing all the way up to her shoulder.

The ride to the hospital felt like an eternity to Rayen. Her eyes remained fixed on the back doors of the ambulance as her mind ran over all the scary scenarios that could be happening inside the moving med bed to her baby. As she stared ahead and the scenery flew past the side windows Rayen gently rested her hands on her barely changed stomach holding her other baby deep and safe inside. Stealing a sideway glance at Tai she wanted to reach out to him and be back in his arms to be held and soothed in a way only he could. She knew he was lost in his own thoughts about their daughter, and she found his caring and worry even further reassurance to the man he had grown to be and the father he was.
It was her worry that caused Quil’s presence to be almost invisible to her. She meant him no harm or effects of her rudeness.
As they finally pulled into the hospital parking lot Rayen had to fight the urge to jump from the car before it has come to a complete stop. As the car finally did come to a complete stop the first thing she felt was Tai’s hand on her knee and the squeeze he offered it. To her it was like a wave of calm washed over her. Rayen just hoped it would last as she made her way towards Claire somewhere in the hospital. She didn’t want to leave Tai but she was torn between walking with him and rushing to their daughter. She realized his logic and quickly exited the car.
As she approached the hospital entrance she turned to Quil and spoke without a smile. “Claire will be glad you’re here, Quil.” She said as they entered through the automatic doors, “And so am I.”
Rayen turned ahead again and approached the nurse at the reception counter. She smiled a simple watery smile before speaking in a low voice that threatened to break as she explained; “My daughter was brought in an ambulance. Claire Titan.” Rayen said before taking a deep breath. The nurse behind the desk turned and typed the keyboard. “She’s only 14. She was playing soccer.” Rayen felt the crack seep up her throat. Thrusting her hands into her jacket pocket she pulled it around her hugging her body. Slowly she turned to look at Quil then let her eyes rest on the door as she wait for news on Claire and for Tai to come in.

The entire ride to the hospital Quil had been tense. After taking the cane that Tai passed back to him and placing it next to him on the seat, Quil's hands became firm fists at his sides. his entire body shaking as he fear and emotion rand through him. Not knowing what had happened to his soulmate was ripping him into two. He just had to keep the wolf from ripping through his human form. Quil knew he had to get himself calmed before he went inside the hospital. But he didn't know if it was possible to be calm when he knew that Claire was hurt and that right now she needed him and he wasn't with her.
It seemed to take forever to get to the hospital but when they did, Quil was glad that Tai offered for them to go in first. Once Rayen had stepped out, Quil placed Tai's cane up by the passenger seat so it would be easier for him to get and Quil got out of the backseat walking in next to Rayen.
" There's no place else I'd be right now" Quil said, having never even considered not being here when she needed him. He would always come for her. But he still thought it was nice of Rayen to say that she was glad he was there as well. He knew that she and Tai were not always thrilled at the amount of time he spent around Claire.
Quil followed Rayen to the desk trying to take deep breaths to keep his phasing under control as he waited to see how Claire was doing and when he could see her again.

Laurence gave Claire a small gentle smile as she gave him her name. He put the breaks on the stretcher as they reached one of the blocked off curtain areas where he could work. "Claire I dont want you to worry, I'm going to give you something for the pain, and we'll get your arm fixed up in no time, you're going to be fine" He assured her. He knew doctors were never supposed to guarantee a patient would be okay, but he figured that in this case it would be helpful to give those insurances, and a broken arm shouldnt be life threatening.
Laurence got out a syringe and started drawing up some pain medication that he could inject into the IV that the paramedics had started on the way over. using the same line would mean at least the young girl wouldnt have to be stuck with another needle. "The paramedics said you were at a soccer game?" he asked trying to understand how the injury happened. "Did you fall? Did you hit your head at all?"

The doctor had a confident, soothing voice as he walked her to the curtained area. Something for the pain sounded like the best idea yet, and she wanted to thank him but couldn't concentrate past the pain in her arm. When her eyes weren't closed, trying to keep herself from crying any louder, she was able to watch Dr. Chambers work swiftly and gently. "Thanks," she muttered. When he started asking her about what happened to her, her irritation returned. She closed her eyes again and replayed the tackle a few times. "Some crazy forward from the other team lost her two brain cells and thought tackling was legal," she told him. She couldn't remember how she had landed, other than it was enough to snap her arm. "I don't know. I fell on my side and I felt my arm bend weird, but I can't remember if I hit my head."
She hadn't remembered much after that, and wondered if they had finished the game or if they had cut it off. If it had been up to her, she would have gotten the other girl hung from her underwear. She looked at the doctor again and saw the rush of nurses running around behind him, attending to other patients. She scanned the faces and tried to lift her head, but it was heavy and her vision was still blurred from the tears she couldn't stop. "Is my mom here yet?"

Laurence inserted the syringe into the IV line, injecting the pain medication appropriate for treatment of the minor, hoping it would work fast and help with her pain. The paramedics had already gotten her history on the ride over and he was able to see that she wasn’t allergic to the pain killer. “You’re welcome…you should start feeling better pretty soon now.” He said knowing the medication worked quickly.
He listened to her description of what happened, surprised that a children’s sports game had turned so aggressive. “I hope she got kicked from the game for that” He told her, nodding when she said she didn’t know if she hit her head. “That’s okay, we’ll check you out for that too just in case” He said, thinking she was already doing impressive job giving him the information for being so young.
Laurence watched her look around and then ask about her mother. “I’ll have the nurses check, if she’s not now I’m sure she will be soon, the ambulances are pretty quick though” He said not wanting her to panic if it took her mother an extra few minutes to arrive. Laurence pulled over one of the nurses. “Can you check for Claire’s mother in the waiting area? Bring her back if she’s here”
The nurse headed out to the ER waiting room, and looked around, seeing a young couple standing by the receptionist. “Are you Mr. and Mrs. Titan?” She asked Rayen and Quil.

Tai watched as Rayen and Quil both hurried out and away towards the hospital, only glancing back to nod at Quil in appreciation as he passed his cane forward. He didn’t waste any more time than was absolutely necessary, though, and as soon as the two of them began to hotfoot away, he swung himself around to clamber out of the car. Luckily, driving Rayen’s VW helped his quick getaway from the vehicle – the long jump from his own truck would be trying in this situation. However, despite this minor help, it still took him a frustratingly long time to make his way across the car park, the miserly drizzle in the air drenching his hair as he shuffled across the tarmac.
Fortunately, the reception area of Forks hospital was not exactly the largest, most bustling of places, even when it was busy and right now it was quiet. His dark eyes immediately recognised the backs of Rayen and Quil and he moved over towards them just in time to hear the nurse’s enquiry. A surge of possessiveness ran uselessly through his system and he placed his free arm around his girlfriend, eyeing the nurse significantly.
“We’re Claire’s family,” he said, simply, disproving her first assumptions, but not bothering to explain the intricacies of their relationship. He figured telling her that none of them were Titans, but Rayen was Claire’s birth mother, he was Claire’s birth father, but not married to her mother, though they did have an intricate relationship, whilst the other teenager was Claire’s soul mate and as part of the family as anyone ought to be, without any dodgy connotations… would take too long. “Can we see her?”

Everything was running through Rayen’s mind as she waited to hear any news on her baby. Why had she let her play in the game? Rayen knew why, Claire wanted it and She always got her way. Giving into Claire was the least of her worries right then. Worst case scenarios were running through her head blocking out all rational thought as she hug her stomach and waited for news.
At first Rayen didn’t hear the nurse speak to her. Her first moment back in the reality of the reception room was on a touch to her waist Rayen already knew it was Tai without look and instantly she relaxed into his touch and let him do the talking. The adrenaline that had kicked in the second her daughter was hurt and that had taken hold on the way to the hospital was wearing off with the waiting and Rayen felt tired; no was not the time to put it down to the child growing inside. Claire was her main concern.
Listening as Tai explained they were family Rayen smiled a little, under any other circumstances she would have laughed at him calling their jumbled connections a family; but that’s what they were. “Please, can we see her?” Rayen asked. “Is she ok?” The words tumbled over one another in to a heap. If he mind couldn’t make sense why should her words. The tears were threatening again under the pressure of not know.
Looking from the nurse to Tai and then to Quil Rayen realized that she wasn’t the only one feeling this huge worry. Quil must have been beside himself with the injury of his soul mate. And Tai was only really beginning to get to know his daughter. “We just need to know she’s ok.” Was the only rational thing Rayen could get out.

The nurse took a bit of a step back as another man approached the couple she believed to be Claire’s parents and possessively put his arm around the female. She figured this had to be a strange family structure. Maybe one was the husband and one was the father. The way the other man’s face was wracked with worry she knew he was involved somehow as well. But so long as they were all family, it didn’t really matter, not to her anyway.
“Claire is alright, Doctor Chambers is in with her now attending to her injury, but she seems scared so the doctor said her family could come back to be with her” The nurse informed them all, looking between the three. “If it gets too crowded or if any of you stress her or the doctor more I’m going to have to ask you to leave so that we can treat her” The nurse said giving a warning to the three. They were all looking upset and she didn’t want them hovering when the medical personnel there needed to work.
“You can follow me” She said, opening the doors and leading them back to the area where Claire and Laurence were.
Laurence looked up as he saw the three approaching. He turned to the woman. “You’re Claire’s mother? She’s been asking for you…” he said gently.

Tai’s arm remained strong around Rayen’s waist as they waited for the nurse to tell them whether they could see their daughter or not. Despite everything their little family had gone through, from being first loves as teenagers, to breaking up prematurely, his injury, Rayen keeping their daughter a secret from him, the awkward phase of getting back together without confusing their young daughter, up to now, they had turned out stronger than ever – a united force. Even as he heard the vulnerable tone and unfamiliar rush of words that emerged from Rayen’s mouth his arm tightened and his fingers automatically began a smooth motion over her hip, soothing.
Even though he was trying to be the tough, dependable father and husband figure, Tai still couldn’t help but let out an audible sigh of relief as the nurse told them that Claire would be okay. He knew it was ridiculous, but all the way there, when he wasn’t actively trying to distract himself with being strong for Rayen, his mind wandered on to the possibilities that her injury would be as bad as his. He knew it was unlikely even as he had the irrational thoughts, but lack of knowledge did that to people. He turned his head to the side and kissed Rayen on the side of her head.
“Thank god,” he breathed into her hair more as a release of tension than a sharing of sentiments – they both knew that the other was feeling the strain of having their daughter in the hands of the doctors. He hobbled forward as the nurse began to lead them to another area of the hospital, keeping a hold of Rayen, though he was less the strong man whilst they were mobile. The pace, in all honesty, was a little fast for him on a usual day, but a combination of adrenaline and a strong desire not to be left behind now that they were so close to his little girl, led him to strive harder.
“Doctor Chambers,” he almost announced in surprise as he saw the doctor that was treating Claire. This man he had seen quite often over the last few years and yet for some reason he hadn’t even guessed that he would be the one to treat his daughter. However, once the momentary surprise was over, his dark eyes immediately went to the figure of Claire on the bed. He limped forward a couple of steps, eager to be at her bedside, but he knew that Rayen should be the one to comfort her daughter first and so he held back, leaning on his cane.
“Hey, Short Stuff,” he said, his voice tender, a tone that very few people ever heard him use.
