The arm around her waist was such a comfort as the touch of Tai always had been. Now Rayen lent into him and use his emotional, if not physical strength for support. As he words tumbled out and the tears threatened to spill again the soothing motion of Tai’s fingers on her hip helped to hold the tears at bay. They were a united family something they had been for some time, it was only now Rayen realized how much ach of them needed that family, most of all Claire right now.
Claire was ok; the words repeated themselves over and over in her head she tried to make them sink in. It was a relief, but something she wouldn’t truly believe till she saw and held her daughter herself. Rayen turned her head towards Tai as he kissed her head she felt his breath blow past her and he sighed and thanked god. Rayen’s head was nodding, but he throat was still contracted with emotion. She needed to see her daughter before she could feel the same relief and release. She could think of nothing till she saw her, she could feel nothing till she held her little girl.
Moving through the hospital Rayen felt up with the nurse eager to see Claire, she glanced back at Tai wanting him close to her. His leg was far from perfect and she knew the pain it could cause him, Rayen was relieved to see he was keeping up with them. Slowly she offered him a weak, watery smile before turning back to face the back of the nurse. Later she knew she would worry for Tai and his leg and the pace of the walk, but now she was just glad he was nearby.
Her eyes didn’t seek out Quil, but she knew it was unlikely he was far away from their family. Despite the way he was part of their family Rayen knew he loved Claire and for that she was thankful for his presence.
When they entered the room Rayen was glad to see them man at her Daughter’s bedside. She knew the Doctor from Tai’s sessions with him to help his knee and she knew he was good and kind. As Tai spoke his name Ray offered him a quick let weak smile then she crossed to her main focus in the room; Claire. Everything was forgotten within the room. She sat on the edge of the bed her hands fussed about her daughter. She pushed invisible hair from her forehead bringing both of her hands to her cheeks and leaning forward to kiss her head. “Claire.” She choked, but she would not cry. Rayen would no worry or upset her daughter now. “Baby, are you ok? You’re ok now momma and daddy are here and Quil. You’re ok.” She said kissing her head again. Her hands dropped from her cheeks as she adjusted the blankets and tucked Claire in as she had done a million times before.
Claire’s hand was so small as Ray held it in her own and smoothed the back of it gently squeezing it a little. When Tai spoke Rayen turned towards his voice and smile as him, his voice was so gentle and loving a tone she’d heard him use with her. So much love from a man so strong. Rayen reached out and tapped the bed next to her, she wanted him close to her and he had a right to be here; they were family. “Come” she mouthed holding her hand out to him.
Rayen turned back to Claire, "Quil's here too." She said gently hoping that the he would realize he was welcome in on this reunion too.
