The day had mercifully settled on a light drizzle as Embry and his mom drove up the coast to Neah Bay, visiting some old friends. They had moved to La Push before he was born, but they had family and friends on this reservation as well. Embry shyly trailed his mother as she lead him to her old friend's house, not sure if he was going to get bored too fast. He was friends with their daughter, Gabby, but girls were just weird some times. Embry was a generally quiet kid and Gabby was... not. She was still nice though and she could be fun to play with. As long as no one else knew he was friends with her, he guessed it was ok.
A woman answered the door soon after his mother knocked on the door and greeted them both warmly. They were lead into the kitchen where he was offered some milk, which he accepted with a tiny nod and smile. The woman poured two glasses instead of one, and then called out for Gabby, who was apparently deeper inside the house, still in her room.

Gabby skipped out of her room. Her jean overalls covered in finger paint, and shiny little gems. Art was fun, especially making flowers on her wall. Her mom had agreed to it after much debate, that Gabriella had of course won. After all it was her room. She walked into the bathroom and struck a pose like Madonna in Vogue. Humming a tune she grabbed for the paper towel and dabbed at herself to make sure the paint was dry. Her mom would kill her if she got paint all over.
She smiled at herself in the mirror, proud that there was no fresh paint on her. Flipping the switch she headed down the hall humming the same tune. It was a shame she couldn’t sing. But luckily the song in her head didn’t require it. LL Cool J was awesome! She smiled bashfully when she seen Embry in the kitchen, and waved. “Hiya!” He was the son of her mothers friend, and though boys had cooties he wasn’t all that bad. And he never made her itch which had to be a good thing right?
She fumbled with her fingers before looking up again. “Wanna’ color?” she asked him.

Embry had taken a moderate sip from his milk when Gabby had walked out to the kitchen, paint-spotted clothes and all. His own bashful smile appeared, and was glad that she had said first. "Hey," he said, sinking his eyes to his milk as he took another sip, taking his time. He looked up at his mother when the girl asked him if he wanted to color, and she gave him an encouraging smile and nod. Gabby's mother handed him the second glass of milk and tossed a half eaten package of Oreos to her daughter to take with them.
Obviously dismissed from the kitchen so the adults could catch up freely, Embry walked towards Gabby tentatively. They would obviously do whatever she wanted since it was her house, and he didn't have much choice other than to follow along. "Sure," he said, gripping both glasses of milk tightly in case he bumped into something.

Gabriella smiled widely when he said Hey, playmates were always fun. Even if he was a boy. After all if she could have fun by herself it only made sense she’d have fun with him too. But it did make her wonder why he never had too much to say. Like he was hiding something. Dark Wing Duck had a fake name and stuff, may be Embry was a silent weirdo. She immediately had the urge to play Dark Wing Duck or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She frowned when she realized there weren’t enough of the two of them to make four awesome slice and dice turtles.
She held the container of oreos under her arm as she walked with an excited bounce. She plopped her self and the cookies on the floor of the living room and reached over for her box of crayons and some coloring books. She gave him the Ninja Turtles one and smiled, “Hope you’re a good colorer, cause this ones my favorite.” She opened her own book to a fresh page. Transformers were colorful, which made them fun to tint in. Not to mention the little scooter was cute.

Embry sat down with the milk in his hands and set them in between him and Gabby and made sure they weren't too close to each other. He watched her bring out the coloring books and crayons and settled himself, crossing his legs on the ground. There was a time before now that he used to be disappointed that she always wanted to color. He was already too old to just color all the time. He liked playing tag and hide and seek in the woods, but it was always hard to do that with just two people. Now whenever he came over, he knew that the day would be spent coloring. No one else in the world could ever know, except for his mom maybe, but he kind of liked it. As long as his mom didn't rat him out, Jake and Quil wouldn't make fun of his for sharing crayons with a girl.
Now that it was just them, Embry was able to smile more earnestly and gratefully take the book from her. "I'm pretty good," he said confidently. He knew that Gabby was really good, but come on, he had learned how to stay in the lines when he was like... four. He kind of wanted the Transformers one instead, but once he found a clean page of Donatello in battle stance, he felt better. No one else ever agreed with him, but Donatello was definitely the best Turtle. "Can I have the purple crayon?" he asked, ashamed that he had to ask for such a girly color. But Donetello wasn't Donatello without his purple mask. He would make an exception this time.

Gabriella smiled gleefully and nodded her head. She laid down on her stomach, the coloring book in front of her. She shaded in Optimus Prime with a dark blue color, and looked up at the crayons that were set in a box before them but a little far from Embry. She lifted it with her free hand and spilt all the crayons on the floor between them. Gabby sifted through them until she found regular purple and passed it to him. “Here ya go,” she smiled holding it out for him.
She peeked over at the page he was coloring. Donatello was cool, but he definitely wasn’t the coolest. “Donnie your favorite?” she asked her feet swaying in the air behind her. “Mines Michael Angelo he’s super cool!” She giggled. “Cowabunga dude!” she exclaimed throwing the hand with the crayon in the air. She put it down with a smile still on her face -It barely ever actually left- and reached for an oreo.

Embry blinked once, watching Gabby just spill out all the crayons between them. He had never done that before, but he was almost sure that his mom would scold him for making a mess and make him pick them up right away. He gently took the purple crayon from, and mumbled a quiet "Thank you," like his mom always told him to say. He examined his pictured for a few seconds before deciding where to start. He touched the crayon to Donatello's mask.
He had to laugh a little when Gabby made her favorite known in her own, excited way. But he wasn't impressed by her enthusiasm. "Michaelangelo is cool," he told her, "But Donatello is the smart one." Something about it told Embry that Donatello was the best no matter what everyone else said.

“Welcome,” she giggled, and pulled the glass of milk closer. She dunked in her oreo and held it there for a moment, letting it soak up the liquid. Gabby took a large bite, normally she would stuff the whole thing in her mouth. But, she’d been reprimanded for the same act way too many times to not obey what her mother would always say. A lady takes bites, and chews silently, so munching like a cow was unacceptable.
“Donatello may be smart,” she began and thought hard for a rebuttal. “But, Michael Angelo is more fun, AND his mask is orange,” not that the color could really make him any more awesome. Green was her favorite color, and they were all green. She thought for a moment and looked up at him. “Do you think all turtles really like pizza? I tried feeding it to the little one outside, he didn’t seem to like it much.” she admitted.

Now that Gabby took an Oreo, Embry figured it was ok for him to take one too. He thought Gabby's mom was really cool for giving them some, his mom usually made him and his friends eat apples, which was totally lame. He patiently split the Oreo to eat it the traditional way; eat the white stuff first and then dunk the cookie part. He had proceeded slowly, still working on Donnie's mask with a free hand, and by the time Gabby had already taken a large bite, he was still licking the icing off the middle. He took a sip of milk before joining his two cookie parts and dunking them too, frowning slightly.
She was right. Orange was awesomer than purple. What was wrong with him? Liking a girl color, come ON. But no. He'd heard all the arguments before and he was still fiercely loyal to Donatello. He couldn't back down against a girl. "Donatello can have just as much fun," he replied sagely, nodding. "But he's important when they need to get out of trouble." So HA. Take that. He quickly stuffed the whole cookie his mouth just as he sensed that it was gonna break apart in the milk. He laughed softly when Gabby talked about the turtle she'd tried to feed. "Uh... yea I don't think they eat pizza. I don't think I've seen them eat anything before. Maybe they don't eat at all," he told her, shrugging. He knew that their heroes were just cartoons, and he didn't know much about real turtles.

Gabriella silently wondered why everyone seemed to take days just to eat an oreo. Taking it apart and putting it together, it was just not necessary. She quickly turned her eyes away from him and picked up another crayon, touching it to the spot on the page that was in desperate need of color. She felt the need to understand the strange phenomenon of oreo precision that so many practiced, and randomly dropped the colored crayon on the page. She mimicked what he had just done by twisting the cookie apart. She inspected both sides before licking the center.
She stopped mid lick and looked up at him, her brows furrowing. He was not going to win. No one was as cool as MichaelAngelo. “He skate boards, and he’s fastest, not to mention,” she said trying to sound more intelligent, “ he makes sure everyone else doesn’t die of losery.” she said as she put the cookie back together, and dunked it. The whole licking the frosting thing was overrated. It made the chocolatey part of the cookie taste funny.
She grinned widely, as far as she was concerned the battle of the coolest ninja had been won.

He continued with the purple crayon, making sure all surfaces were colored in, watching Gabby from the side. Ha. He totally ate the cookie the best way and she knew it. She even had to give in and do it that way too. He colored in satisfaction for being smarter and cooler than her... until she started talking about Michaelangelo again. Seriously, what was she thinking? There was no way she was gonna win.
"Yea, but the Foot Clan doesn't use skateboards, they use weapons. And Donatello has the best weapon case the staff is really long and it keeps enemies farther away." Embry instantly knew he won. There was no way a girl knew about weapons. Satisfied with himself, he took what he thought was the best green of all the greens that matched the cartoon and started on Donatello's feet.

Gabriella’s brows furrowed. She couldn’t let a boy win, this wasn’t over. After all she had to make her brother proud. She took a deep breath and poked him in the fleshy part between the shoulder and just above the armpit. She was more so frustrated than angry, but the Donatello madness had to stop. Not to mention the smug look on his face was nagging at her, as if he believed he had won so easily.
“Donatello only uses one weapon, Michaelangelo can use three! Nunchucks are cooler!” she said with a confident nod. She never use to like her brothers movies, but Bruce Lee ‘Enter the Dragon’ wasn’t so bad, and he used nun chucks. “Donatello has a big broom stick without the bristly things.” she said as she picked her orange crayon back up. “I win,” she said with a smile and began to color.

Was this girl for real? She seriously thought she was right. There was no way she was, of course, but she was convinced that her turtle was awesomer than Embry's. He had had this conversation before and no one had ever really had an argument to really challenge his position. The best they could come up with was that purple was lame. Well... their face was lame. So there. Embry's expression now matched Gabby's, annoyed that she was so persistant.
"Well that's how much Michaelangelo sucks," he said lowly so his mother wouldn't hear. He had already gotten grounded for saying that something sucks, he didn't want to get in trouble because of a girl. "He needs three weapons and Donatello only needs one. The only way he would be better than Donatello is if he didn't need weapons at all. Or he had like magic or something... which he DOESN'T.[/i]" He looked smug for a second, the momentary rise in his temper showing in his cheeks, and he turned back to his coloring. He then turned back again to face her, his voice as confident as before. "Oh and by the way, it's not a broomstick, it's called a bo. You don't win. He turned back to his drawing once more, surprised at his own forcefulness. He was usually laid back, but if he was going to be challenged like this, he couldn't lose to a girl. Pfft.[/color]

Gabriella had a smug look on her face as she colored the headlight yellow. She placed the crayon back down in the small pile between them before picking up the silver one and touching it to the page. She only looked up when he practically whispered the word sucks. Like it was some type of forbidden word. She ignored his comment about Michelangelo. In reality she didn’t know what to say. “That’s stupid, and you’re a wuss. You can’t say sucks,” she said in an abnormally upbeat tone for the words said.
The girl smiled before looking back down at her paper. She filled the silver in between the lines, and got up. She would show him, three was better than one. Gabriella walked behind the couch toward the small downstairs bathroom, and turned around sneakily. She took three of the pillows off the couch that was set behind him, and held each by the corner. With a few long strides toward him she sent them crashing down on his shoulders and head. “Three,” she smiled, “ is better than one.” with those words she took of through the back glass doors. Giggling at the facial expression he had made. If he found her she might just be in trouble. She wished she had nun chucks, nerf ones though.
Embry wasn’t all that bad, but he had two things against him. One, he was a boy, and two, she just didn’t like being a loser.

Embry's brow deepened. "I'm not stupid, you're stupid," he retorted, keeping his voice low still. Saying stupid was just as bad as saying sucks. She needed to stop before she got him in trouble, so he ignored her and went back to Donatello. But he saw that she had gotten up, checking that no one was coming. He wasn't sure what she was up to, but it didn't look good so far. He leaned away from her when she reached past him, and it all clicked in his head when he saw the pillows. He was just about to protest when the first hit him on the head, the second to his hands that he had put up to shield himself, and the last his legs since he had gotten up to stop her.
"Cut it out!" he said loudly, looking down at her shorter figure. His head quickly snapped towards the kitchen, where their mothers were. Crap, they probably heard him and it wouldn't be long until they came in and asked. He turned to look at Gabby again, but now all he saw was her running away straight out the back door. He immediately shot forward after her. It was a better idea to go outside than to have his mom what was wrong. Jake had always been the strongest, Quil the sneakiest, but Embry was the fastest. He soon caught up and was only a few paces behind her. "Hey come back here!" he called out. He didn't know where she was going, and he didn't know his way around here like he knew La Push.
