Gabriella had flung the sliding glass door open and ran as quickly as her legs would carry her. She was laughing though, which took away some of the breath that would have been directed at the need to get away before their moms came in to check out the commotion. Gabby’s mom knew the two kids were quite opposite in many ways. Gabby was playful and rambunctious, while Embry was more so the quiet almost conservative one. This fact usually kept her mom giggling if she heard the two playing games. But, Embry’s mom, she was usually the quicker one to respond.
The girl’s hair bounced behind her as she moved, she couldn’t stop laughing if only she had had a camera. Embry’s voice caught her off guard, not that she hadn’t expected him to serve her his form of come back, but man was that kid quick! Gabby dodged a tree branch and tore through the small woodsy area behind her house. The other side contained the beach, but it was still a ways up. She giggled as she zig zagged through the trees. “I Win!!” she yelled back over her shoulder. She quickened her pace and breathed hard until she seen the clearing. She hid behind a huge ancient tree, and looked down at where the sand met the dirt, smiling as she caught her breath.

Having caught up with her and letting her lead him through the the wooded area, he was able to take a look around him as they darted between trees. There was a similarity between here and the La Push, just the feeling of familiarity was missing. He couldn't help but smile when he heard her laughing like a maniac. She was crazy, but at least this was better than just coloring. He barely missed the branch that she easily had dodged with the other obstacles. He was able to navigate them, but not without losing momentum in the process. He added speed once more, but realized that she had reached the edge of the woods, rejoicing in victory.
"Whatever," he said dismissively. "You had a head start. If we raced for real, I would beat you." He was confident, but his breath was heavy and scanned the area they were in. The tree looked cool and he realized that they were near the beach. He wondered how far they'd gotten, and if his mother would freak out. He scanned the small clearing she had lead him to, frowning slightly. He'd heard her, but he couldn't see where she'd gone. "Gabby?"

Gabby took a few deep breaths and listened to the waves crashing on the shore. It was peaceful, but the sound of Embry’s familiar voice brought back the mischievous grin. She wondered who would have really won if it was a race, but even that couldn’t be put to the test. The whole having only two people thing was getting old. After all what could you play with only a couple at your disposal? Chess? Yuck the thought of the game alone was almost enough for a yawn.
The girl snuck out from behind the tree, and maneuvered around a few others until she was behind him. Hero theme music playing in the back of her mind. She stuck her small finger out again and poked him lightly in the center of his back. She smiled widely, a sparkle of joy in her eye. This was much better than coloring. “What should we do?” she said practically bouncing. She looked down at her shoe thinking of possible options.

He had started walking back towards the way he had run from, checking around him for any signs of his playmate. He was half tempted to pick a direction to try to find her, but he was saved when he felt a determined poke in his back. He whipped around to face the smiling girl and he smiled himself. At least they got out of the house and wouldn't be coloring all day. It wasn't so bad but it wasn't raining today and he liked the idea of roaming the wooded area he didn't know so well. At least she wasn't boring like other girls and wasn't worried about getting dirty and stuff.
Embry shrugged his shoulders, just as clueless as she was. He was usually up for anything, but it was hard to play with just one other person. Whatever they came up with would have to provide enough entertainment to last them the time their mothers were chatting about boring stuff. "I dunno, what do you usually do around here?" He couldn't imagine what a girl would want to play, but he was willing to do anything that wouldn't get him in trouble because his mom usually took a really long time to stop scolding him.

Gabby stuck the tip of her tongue out, the same habit she’d had since she was a tot. It was something she always did when in deep thought, and trying to think of two player friendly games was like trying to figure out how to understand the teachers the Charlie Brown show.
She looked up to answer his questions pointing at a finger with each listing as she ran them off in her favorite order. “Swim, collect stuffs, climb trees, play pirates,” she thought the last one with a brighter smile than before. Sticks were used as swords, and if he was interested there was even some cool stuff they could use as treasure. She looked up at the trees barely believing she had forgotten one of the most coolest things she owned.
“I have a tree house!” she exclaimed in excitement. “And there’s board games up there, Twister, Jenga, and I don’t know what other ones.” she admitted dropping her hands back to her sides before sticking them in the pocket of her overalls. “Wanna’ see?” she asked, her blue eyes full of excitement. Her father had built the tree house with her brothers help not too long ago for her 11th birthday, it was the most awesome gift ever, and the biggest.

Embry was surprised to learn that Gabby seemed to do much of the same things he did with his friends. He had the general impression that girls played with dolls or seashells at the beach or something. He knew Leah and Jake's sisters were always off laughing about something they never wanted to tell them about. It was annoying, but he and the guys usually just went to play without them and make fun of them instead.
His own eyes brightened when she mentioned the treehouse, and a twinge of jealousy creeped up on him. He had never been in a treehouse and it sounded really cool. His mom and Gabby's mom forgotten, he wondered if it was far from where they were. "Yea! Is it really high!?"

She grinned from ear to ear when she seen his eyes brighten to match the excitement in her own. She nodded, clearly all too happy to show him one of her favorite things besides her paint and brushes. “Super tall!” she confirmed looking up to the trees. There had to be a tree she could show him here that could demonstrate what her own tree looked like. It was her tree house, which made the tree hers too.
“Come on,” she bounced, “I’ll show ya!” Gabriella grabbed Embry’s hand and pulled him along after her. Weaving through the trees she knew so well. The wooden tree house was closer to home, and a little more East. But her favorite part about it was from such a high altitude you could look out onto the ocean perfectly. It was what she did when she wanted to be alone with her sketchbook. A battery operated lamp her only companion.
She dropped his hand as soon as she realized she was holding it, blushing a little as she continued to run, skip, than run again. Hopping over exposed roots from the trees, she called over her shoulder, “watch out for the tree roots.”
A few feet away stood a tree with a plywood and rope ladder dangling from one of the thicker, more sturdy branches. High up in the air a square like room was made around the lard, old tree. “See!?” she smiled giddily pointing towards the plywood above far above their heads, painted on ivy wrapping its way around the entire thing, making it blend in more.

Embry couldn't imagine a girl having something as cool as a tall treehouse, but his eyes immediately followed her gaze into the trees, wondering if he could see it from where they stood. Apparently it wasn't so, and he was suddenly being lead by hand into the forest. As she pulled him through the trees, Embry looked bit shocked at their hands where she had connected them, but didn't make a move to separate them. He knew she was crazy sometimes, but it was times like these that he was so caught off guard that he barely had time to react. Thankfully, she soon let go of him, and warned him about the tree roots. "Yea, I know," he said crossly. "I've walked through forests before." Did she think he was stupid or what?"
He improved his pace to prove to her that he was fine and was soon walking next to her, though he made a point to keep some distance between them in case she tried to gab his hand again. They soon reached a small clearing, and he turned his head in the direction that she was pointing. His face turned up to follow the rope ladder as it reached the entrance. "Woah, that's cool," he said with a bit of reverence. "Cane we go up?"

Gabby ignored Embry’s negative comments. She always was one who had a sort of decisive hearing, she only heard or listened to what she wanted to. It was probably the reason she liked when Embry came over with his mom, she enjoyed bugging him. In her eyes, they both found it fun, and even if it wasn’t for him, she hoped he couldn’t go so far as to hate her, even if she was a girl.
“No,” she said sarcastically putting her hand on her hip and moving her weight onto one foot. “I brought you here so we could watch it,” Gabby shook her head and laughed. She grabbed the rope ladder with both hands and began making her way up rather quickly, it was something that felt rather normal for her as she visited her tree house so often. She looked down, “come one slow poke,” she called. Embry really was anything but, he actually might just be faster than her, but she wouldn't admit that.

Embry rolled is eyes, annoyed that she had to act like such a know-it-all, but didn't skip a beat when she started climbing up the rope. Quickly finding his grip, he was soon only a few paces behind her, not wanting to be too close. he'd stopped to scratch his nose, which allowed her to finish her climb before he did. He was pushing himself upward a the last few feet when her head popped out and urged him to catch up. He pulled his leg over onto the floor boards and pulled himself up, dusting himself off a little. "You're a pretty good climber," he said, surprised how easily she made her way up. He would almost think she was better than him, but he wouldn't tell her that "Do you come here a lot?"
Turning around to look out of where they were standing, Embry's face lit up with a grin. They weren't high enough to see over the top of the other trees, but enough of the ground was covered by lower branches and leaves to make it seem like they were in another world. "It looks like we're in another planet," he told her. "And we're aliens."

Gabby smiled when he admitted he thought she was a good climber, she looked to the floor boards hoping her curtain of hair on either side would hide the blush. She looked back up to answer him, moving to the farther end where the wood had a cut out in the shape of a window, skinnier pieces of wood made a frame. She assumed it was ‘cause her Dad originally had a fear of her falling out of the Square shaped window that now had emerald green curtains. In reality the curtains were just the product of her mother’s friends Moo Moo gown. The way it draped though, you’d never know. Gladly the woman never asked about her night gown...
“All the time, I come here to think,” she told him pointing out the window. “You can almost see the beach from here.”Inside the treehouse trees had been painted onto the wooden walls, it almost seemed as if you we down on the ground amongst the tree roots still. The large Oak in the center of the tree house had twinkling white lights wrapped around it that made the area look a little like Christmas in a forest. It was her favorite touch. “And this is Tree beard,” she told him patting the large tree trunk happily.
