[Early Breaking Dawn; Tag Gabby]
The distance between Embry's house and Gabby's couldn't be any shorter. It was broad daylight and Embry had to practice restraint as he limited his strides on the way to her house. Had it been after sunset, he would have been able to able to give into his instincts at the risk of looking like quite the unnatural teenager running across La Push. It would only save him a couple of seconds, but the feeling of running at top speed would make him feel like he was putting all his effort into seeing her, which was nothing short of the truth. Being with Gabby had made everything in his life feel so much better. Even being friends with Isabelle had been easier. Noel was an issue still, but he was trying to be there for her, even if it wasn't in the way she wanted. It would all be ok, somehow, because at the end of the day, Gabby would be there.
It had been a most interesting few weeks since they'd first seen each other again. Embry had learned that not much had changed since they were children. Gabby was still eccentric, energetic and slightly random. As for Embry... he still couldn't quite handle her. The only difference was that he loved trying to. He hadn't blushed this much since the last time he was around her, she seemed to know exactly what to do to make things awkward and uncomfortable for him. As for her, she found no shame in pure honesty and curiosity, and never turned a shade red.
Grinning widely as he made the last turn to her house, he looked perfect evening he was planning to spend with her. He practically skipped to her door, and knocked near the center, trying to listen in for her footsteps.

Gabriella combed her fingers through her hair and peered into the mirror. She tilted her head to the left and shrugged. Her dark blue jeans were a little on the baggy side, and the silver belt she wore stood out in contrast with the dark denim. Her black top was form fitting and read, ‘I’m from a chickens butt, eat me!’ In the center was a fried egg, with a golden yolk. Embry was on his way over and Gabby couldn’t fight down the emotions welling up insider her. A little frustration, mixed with a lot of girlish glee she hadn’t quite gotten used to. The girl’s mother and father were at a concert seeing one of their favorite bands from their earlier years, but Gabby still believed that was an excuse for some sort of hippie fest. As they were away and E’Kyle was doing whatever he did on a normal basis she found it reason to blast her music on the Bose system her grandfather had bought. It was the most expensive thing, (besides her car) that she’d actually allowed her pop pop to purchase for her. And at this moment she was greatful.
“I said a hip hop the hippie the hippie to the hip hop, a you don’t stop,” she sang as she skipped out of her room and down the hall. This house was much smaller than the one they had lived in back at the Makah Rez, but she’d learned to appreciate it none the less. Tonight she was going to have a serious talk with Embry, as she still had the gut feeling she was being lied to. Not to mention the fact she’d actually seen him walk into the forest after a girl. She had to stop herself from wondering just what they were doing and why he was still leading her on…

Embry heard her light footsteps approach the door, they were almost drowned out by a sound that was a little bit more unsettling. He felt that uncomfortable feeling with a sensation of happiness that almost always accompanied it. He had nothing against rap at all, he liked some of it too. It was the fact that Gabby sometimes made him dance with her that was what made him feel really awkward. She was merciful enough to never ask him in public, but the few flashes of memory that had slipped during patrol with his brothers was embarrassing enough.
Now that he knew what he was at least a little bit aware of what was behind the door, his mind quickly ran through the number of excuses he'd have to give Gabby to talk his way out of it. Dancing wasn't his forte, but he'd admit that he'd do whatever she wanted it. It was a dangerous power to have, but he was glad that it was hers. He peeked into the small window on the door to see if she was close, since he was tall enough to reach. He spotted her strutting, and smiled.

Gabriella paused where she stood on the hardwood floor in the small living room and spun quickly before flicking her leg up and to the side. “Ow!” she yealled, in a similar tone to the Michael album she had been blasting before this one. She laughed before realizing if someone walked in on her she wouldn’t appear to be too sane…not that she cared much. Her eyes caught on the black box above the dvd player the red numbers indicated it was 7:03.
She took a deep breath not allowing herself to get upset if Embry had decided not to show and instead spend time with the forest chick, after all he was only a few minutes late…he might not be standing her up just yet. And if he was then she would just have to suck up her sappy feelings and get over it. After all liking someone as much as she seemed to like Embry just wasn’t normal after hanging out with them a handful of times. Which only made her that much more frustrated with herself.
Ignoring her overflowing emotions Gabby made her way to the door, there was no peep hole to see through and so she moved to the flow of the music, swinging the door open and crashing into something hard. She fell into it placing her hands against the object in front of her. She looked up, “Uhhhh you weren’t suppose to be there,” she admitted with an almost bashful smile before breaking into a fit of laughter. She slipped her hands off his chest, noting that he needed something cold to drink. He was far too hot and she was starting to believe he was lying when he said he didn’t have a fever.
Gabby rested her back against the frame of the door catching her breath.

Having braced himself for her to open the door for him, it seemed to take her a little bit longer than expected. Confused, he peeped into the tiny window again to find her busting a very Legendary move before she laughed at herself. She must have been concentrating on the music to the point where she hadn't heard his knock on the door. Chuckling to himself, he was about to knock on the door again when he suddenly collided with a very short person that had quickly opened the door and stepped out right into his arms. Gabby had caught herself in time, but had still stumbled slightly to need Embry's support.
Gabby was light as a feather, but the massive wave of warmth and comfort that accompanied her touch and presence was a sensation that made Embry smile brightly, laughing with her when she knocked into him. "I'm not?" he teased. "I didn't know I was uninvited, did I miss the memo?" He wondered exactly what time it was, knowing he couldn't possibly be that late when he had so carefully planned enough time to get here by 7 like he said he would. He grinned, amused, as she rested on the door frame from the surprising block from the doorway. "Are you ok?" he asked, reaching out to touch her shoulder, maybe pull her in for a hug if she let him.

Gabby shook her head and sucked up air between her laughs. “You know what I mean,” she smiled up at him, “like here, but not here, here,” she said motioning to her door step where he stood. The girl sighed feeling the pink in her cheeks from being unable to breathe for a few moments, it made her head feel oddly light. “I’m fine,” she grinned. She glanced back at the tv where the red numbers read 7:04. Here, she had been thinking he wouldn’t show, after only 3 minutes…how those few minutes felt long enough to make her wonder if he’d show was beyond her. She blamed it on the giddy feeling she got when she was around him.
She looked back toward him and felt her heart race when his palm touched her shoulder. She felt as though she had watched him a moment too long and she couldn’t risk an awkward moment. They were friends…and friends didn’t stare longingly at each other. That was saved for the romance flicks that never happened in the real world. Tonight she’d get answers, she just wasn’t sure exactly what she was suppose to ask or how. Instead, she took his hand from her shoulder and led him to the kitchen much the same way she did when they were little. She never gave him much choice and she dared him to snatch his hand away.
“I made cupcakes,” she said over her shoulder as she took large steps to lead him to the kitchen quicker. Gabby let go of his hand, “dude, did you know they make oreo cupcakes?” she asked with a small chuckle. “And I wasn’t sure what movie you wanted to see so I downloaded three,” she said motioning toward the island in the middle of the kitchen where the laptop was set. Tonight was supposed to be a movie night, a night between friends but she knew it might not end the way they planned when she started asking questions.

Embry mirrored her grin when she told him that she was fine. She didn't seem hurt, only temporarily startled. his grin widened momentarily when she seemed to stop herself and just smile. He wondered if it had been intentional, her doing exactly what he had wanted at that moment; just to see her smile. It was over way too soon, and Embry felt the familiar, but welcome, sensation of being fearlessly lead by Gabby. His hand reacted to the warmth it caught from hers, and he slowly secured his grip around her hand as well. It was years later, and he now felt differently about Gabby, but he still found himself slightly caught by surprise whenever she took charge and just lead him into things. As a little boy, he had protested but followed still; today he had absolutely no complaints. He still found himself surprised and caught off guard, but he would follow her anywhere now.
"Sweet," he responded to the cupcake announcement. Embry's appetite was only matched and at times surpassed by other wolves, and he wondered if Gabby noticed how much he could stuff down. His stomach rumbled when Oreos were added to the cupcake prospect, and his hand dropped lamely at his side when she let go. He followed still, reaching the kitchen island glancing at the laptop. "Aha! Piracy. I like it," he teased lightly. "Which movies did you get Captain Gabs?" He smoothly made his way to the fridge and opened it, peeking in. "Milk?"

Gabriella walked to the long row of cupboards that lined the wall opposite the room entrance. Beneath it a counter ran up to the point of where the old white fridge was set. Her mother was always complaining about getting a new one, and though grandfather had offered, Dad had politely refused. Though most of the rest of the kitchen had been redone with some unknown source of income that her dad never seemed too happy about, it did make a big difference. Gabby smiled, Pop Pop was awesome. “If you have good intentions you should never take no as an answer,” it was something she was so used to hearing from him it was like listening to a familiar song, and something she often felt compelled to remind herself.
She brought two cups down and set two cup cakes on his plate, one on her own. Embry could really eat, though she wasn’t really sure where he fit it all. Sometimes she had to wonder if he still looked that fit without a shirt on…if she ate as much as he did in a few days in a week she’d gain like 5 pounds. It didn’t matter to her though; maybe he was in the school’s foot ball team and just hadn’t mentioned it. Maybe that was where he knew the other girl, and why Embry probably knew they’d never run into each other. Cheerleaders to Gabby were like jittery little air heads that danced around in short skirts for attention. Something she only found comical.
“Umm, Transformers 2, something called Crank, and good old 007,” she said with a smile as she brought everything up to the small kitchen table. “Behind the apple juice,” she said as she walked over to help. “We can set the laptop up to the tv and watch it in the living room when you pick one Peg Leg Bree,” she laughed making up a name on the spot. “Dude, I always thought pirates were so awesome until I found out some had sexual relations with the young male help,” she said nonchalantly looking up at him.

An impish grin appeared on Embry's face as his eyes found the milk the very same second Gabby had told him where to find it. He deftly reached his hand past the apple juice and extracted his drink of choice without disturbing the rest of the fridge's contents. He smiled at his new Pirate Name and leaned over to fill the two cups Gabby had gotten for them. He gave himself a liberal helping, since oreo cupcakes were now involved, and for Gabby he tried to talk to her to keep her distracted, deviously filling her cup to the very top brim. "Ummm.. I think classic 007 is the way to go," he said, grinning. He was hoping she wouldn't catch him filling her cup way too much.
As always, Gabby had a random fact or comment to contribute to their conversation... or not. He could only laugh at today's factoid, thought it was slightly disturbing. "Well that's what you get for liking pirates. Ninjas were always better. You should have known better, silly rabbit." Taking his cup of milk, he grabbed his plate of cupcakes, walking towards the living room and leaving Gabby with her superfilled glass of milk.

Gabriella felt liquid run down her fingers and their firm grip on the glass, It stole her attention away from looking up at him which proved a feet of its own. Embry had grown about a zillion feet since they were kids. Gabby, well not so much. She looked down and glared at her hand in protest, but by the time she had realized it Embry was on his way out the door way to the living room. Her eyes squinted before she rolled her eyes and giggled. All was well, she’d get him back tenfold. He had to have known that after all Gabby had always been a bit mischievous. Like the time she’d snuck downstairs after her brothers friends had all fallen asleep. It was the day she realized that 4 out of 5 boys will pee their pants if you dip their fingers in water. What a science project that had been, she smiled at the memory.
The girl poured a tiny bit of the milk into the sink and rinsed off her hands before grabbing her plate and heading to the living room, she’d come back for the lap top, or just make Embry do that as she found the cords for the set up. “You do know I’ll get you back, right Embers?” she asked placing her cup and plate on the coffee table. She smiled big, the milk mustache more apparent now that she was facing him. As quick as she could she pinned him to the couch and pounced on him with kisses to the cheek, holding his face in place to plant the kisses all over the right side of his face. She grinned and laughed as she pushed her way off the couch. “Don’t worry I won’t tell your girlfriend, besides she wouldn’t understand the appeal of milky kisses,” she winked playfully.
Just cause Embry looked more like a man now, that gave him no excuse around Gabby. She’d find a way to stun him, and most of the time not on purpose. “Okay you can get the lap top now, I’ll find the cords,” she told him as if nothing had just happened. She laid on the floor and brought the basket of cables to her face, separating them as best she could with her short arms in comparison to the long black cords.

Laughing softly, Embry kept walking away. "That's what you always say," he said, instigating her revenge. He knew quite well that she was more than capable and willing to get him back, but he was also just as willing to take anything she had. What always caught him by surprise, however, was the speed she delivered her vengeance. Embry had just placed his own glass of milk on the coffee table before Gabby took him by surprise and knocked him onto the couch. For a few seconds, he thought he had imagined it all, and before he could really enjoy what was happen, she had already gotten up, leaving him in shock.
Sitting up slowly, he could feel the heat rise up to his face in a furious blush, a grin growing widely. His eyes followed her, and he wondered if she had any idea how crazy she was making him. He stood up and went back to retrieve the laptop just as he was ordered, trying to recover from the shock. While she couldn't see his face, he smiled widely, walking slowly. "It's cool," he said, "there isn't a girlfriend to keep the secret from." The response was mixed with different feeling, which he hoped she didn't confuse with something negative. He had had a girlfriend until very recently. He felt bad that Noel was hurting so badly, but he was nervous and excited at the thought that he might not have to worry about girlfriends anymore... not after Gabby.
Taking the laptop from the counter and walking it back to the living room, he played with the touchpad to see if he could find the movie file. "So which 007 do ya got?"

He was right, she always did have the bad habit of warning him before she did something. But it always still seemed to shock, or when they were younger, annoy him. Either way it usually ended up with her stomach hurting from laughing so much. She kicked her feet in the air as she twirled and un-twirled a blackish gray cable that she’d now noticed was covered in dust. It would due just fine though, besides she and Kim had accidently broken the last one.
Mentally, Gabby threw a little party at the correction of him not having a girlfriend. She would have done a victory dance if she were standing. Good thing she wasn’t. “Ummm,” she called as she tried to remember, “ Casino Royale, Goldfinger, and one I prefer not to say out loud that starts with octo-” she called back to him, a smile on her face despite the fact this knot was not coming out.
She managed to uncoil the mass of wires from the one she needed and plugged it into the tv. She wondered if she still had popcorn, or if her and Kim had eaten it all the last sleep over, but that thought didn’t last long after she remembered what she was supposed to be doing. Right now she was kind of drifting off into la la land, and she realized it might look odd with her lying on the floor.
So, she played dead. She laid there eyes closed, tongue to the side of her mouth and shallowed her breathing. Gabby wondered if peoples tongues stayed in their mouth when they died... After all couldn’t they not control their muscles anymore? What if they had a long tongue? Maybe Embry would know.
