[Mid Eclipse- after Maybe I'll Catch Fire]It had been a difficult few days for Reid, and he felt the ache in his shoulders as he paced a few yards from the tree line. Just four days earlier, he'd ran into Baya at the beach, and now it was all he could think of. Since then the small time they had spent together that day on the shore were the brightest memories in his mind. He hadn't wanted to tell her about his theories, afraid that he'd scare her away, and somehow survived the conversation without revealing anything yet. The only downside was that he'd had to lie to her, and lying had never felt so terrible before that day. He'd felt a sinking sensation in the pit of his stomach that only slightly tainted the feeling of being near her. After he had reluctantly parted from her, he had immediately run to his brothers to confirm his suspicions. He'd been right. He had imprinted on Baya and he'd found the counterpart to his soul. It sounded sappy, but the words themselves were an understatement to what it felt like. He had wanted to run right back to her, but the little bit of rationality that usually dominated his mind made him stop and think just a little. He had spoken to other brother he'd run into with experience and asked them about it. They were all happy for them, and in the undercurrent of their thoughts, Reid sensed that they were relieved that he had imprinted on them.
He had collected all the information that he could and had been prepared to go back to her and tell her everything. He hadn't been sure how he'd do it, but felt that it was the right thing to do. It was only his late night shifts and other wolfly duties that had delayed him this long. Despite his determination, there were certain fears that were tugging at the edges of his mind. They sprouted from minor thoughts his brothers couldn't hide from him eve if he tried. He was young, and the newest wolf. His temperament was not easily controlled, and he had a lot to learn. The reason they had been relieved to learn that he'd imprinted was because it usually lead to a more balanced personality after such a dramatic transformation; it would help Reid when learning to learn and control his abilities. The four days he was away from Baya with these thoughts was enough to create doubts in his mind. Was he too wild to be near her? Would something happen like what had happened to Emily?
His deep gray fur ruffled as he suppressed a shudder at the thought of having something like that happen. He could still feel the unconsolable guilt Sam tried to hide from them all. His black paws padded silently over a few stray branches as he glanced at the high school. He huffed nervously and his black ears perked up when he heard the distinct sound of the last bell ringing, dismissing the school's students. He suddenly remembered why he was there and quickly stepped deeper into the wooded area that surrounded the school for a moment to phase back into his human form and slip into his shorts and t-shirt. Just as he stepped out into the clearing, he saw the first of the students filing out of the several doors, relieved to be released. Trying to be casual and control the anxiety he'd suddenly acquired. He leaned against a large tree that stood at the edge of the woods and scanned the crowd, watching for Baya. Somehow, he would tell her everything today.[Baya!]

Baya sat in math class impatiently staring at the clock as the last minutes of the day ticked by. The days seemed to be going by slower lately ever since her run in with Reid on the beach. She was worried about him. She thought several times about calling just to check on him but knew that Reid wasn't that type of guy. She missed him more than she had before, something she attributed to the worry she had for him but she knew she wanted to see him for reasons other than just to make sure he was well. She had feelings for him that she wondered if she had been hiding for years now. They had been friends but never had they felt so strongly as they did now. She wished she could go see him again and feared the thought that he'd decide to leave the reservation like he had originally planned to do.
Finally the last bell of the day rang and Baya grabbed her books off the desk and threw her bag over her shoulder. As left her classroom one of the guys from the track team hurried over to her side with a big smile on his face, and a bit of a cocky attitude as he started to talk to her about a party he was having that weekend at his house. No parents around, plenty of alcohol and he wanted Baya to be his date.
The two walked together out of the building as Baya tried to come up with excuses to not totally blow him off but knowing her heart wasnt in it right now. "You know...I have a big assignment that's due..."
"Come on its just one night, I'll drive you home in the morning...or afternoon, whenever we get up for the day" The trackstar retorted with a wink before putting his arm around Baya.
Baya quickly got out of his hold and shook her head. "I will never be waking up with you"

Reid's feigned casual stance was immediately broken when as he easily picked out Baya's voice from the swarm of students. His shoulders squared and his neck strained as he tried to scan the crowd quicker, searching for the chocolate brown hair that fell down to her shoulders. She was telling someone about an assignment, and Reid silently hoped it was one she would let him help her with. Much to his surprise, when he finally saw her, her shoulders weren't draped by her soft hair, but by the arm of some kid with a cheeky grin. Reid's face fell at the boy's proximity to her, and he felt himself take a step back. He felt stupid for thinking that she might have wanted to hang out with him, and suddenly the news he wanted so desperately to tell her was insignificant.
The next words they exchanged sent a throbbing spike of electricity up his spine, and he felt his hands and arms vibrate from the rage that was building and fighting to get out. That kid was harassing Baya, and now he was gonna pay for it. Without even thinking, he left the safety of the woods and started dodging the crowd towards Baya and the wannabe jock. He couldn't help the gutteral snarl that left his throat, echoing subtly across the school's lot. He slipped easily between the students, ignoring those who recognized him and tried to say hi. His eyes were locked on Baya, making sure he was alright, and unsure exactly what he'd do to the kid once he was within arm's reach.

"Oh come on, you know you'd love a piece of this" The track guy said confidently flicking his shirt out as he tried to ignore the brush off that Baya had just given him as she moved out of his hold.
"No I really wouldnt. Have a great time at your party but I'm not going to be there with someone who's eyes are already bloodshot" Baya said as she looked at him disgusted by the thought. Really none of the guys at school seemed even the slightest bit interesting to her anymore. She only thought about Reid.
She looked over as she saw a few of the other students moving out of the way as if slightly scared of something and soon saw what it was. Reid was coming right up to her, as if born from the mere thought of him at that moment. She looked at him curiously wondering why he was at school when he had already graduated but smiled, happy to see him, especially now.
"Reid, hey, didnt expect to see you here" She said slightly worried about the look in his eyes right now and the shaking she saw in his hands.

Seeing Baya willingly smile at him like that broke Reid's charging stride a little bit. A calming sensation fought with the anger he'd felt only seconds before. He still wanted to pound the kid through the ground, but now he thought twice about it. He didn't want to make a big scene and embarrass Baya in front of the whole school. She wasn't even his girlfriend. He returned her smile with a soft grin, his step slowing to a casual walk as he thought the word 'girlfriend'. The fact that she was defending herself well against the dumb jock and was flat out turning him down made his smile widen just a little.
His smile faltered just a little when his eyes landed on the track star. If she hadn't expected him there, did it mean she didn't want him there? Where the object of imprintings supposed to go along with it or were they able to choose against it? All of his brothers imprintees had chosen them, but leave it up to Baya to be different and stubborn. At least he could count on the one thing he was sure of, and that was that she wasn't interested in this jerk in front of her. "Just came by to see if you needed help with that assignment," he said in an entirely casual tone, but keeping a menacing glare on the athlete.

Seeing Reid's soft grin reassured Baya a little from the shaking she had seen in his hands. He originally had looked so upset or angry but now seemed a little calmer. Maybe she had just imagined it before. He wasn't walking as briskly anymore either as he neared, going at a more casual pace and widening his smile which only made hers widen in an automatic response.
She looked at him surprised for a moment as he explained why he had stopped by. She wasn't sure if she was more surprised that he had actually been serious that day on the beach about helping her with her studies, or surprised that he'd just drop by school (when he'd been so anxious to get away from it) to see if she needed help. She looked over at the athlete once more knowing she'd much rather go with Reid whether she needed his help or not than stay here one minute longer with that guy. "Uh, yeah sure. That'd be great, if you're sure you have some time?" She said moving over to stand closer to Reid and distance herself from the runner.

The slimy athlete tried to play it cool, and reached in for a handshake, telling Reid he was glad he'd decided to stick around. Reid moved not even an inch towards the boy and avoided his hand entirely, and it only took another second for the teenager to give in and back away. He turned his back on them in silent retreat just in time to miss Reid's face fall to a bit of a shocked yet blissful look when Baya agreed to let him help her. "Yea, I've got time," he told her grinning. "But I was just trying to get the slimeball away from you. I'm sure you don't need help or anything." He felt stupid for offering her academic help, he was pretty sure she would see right through it as an excuse to just see her. But then again it was, and he kind of hoped that she did realize it.
He realized that some of the remaining students were staring, and his new heightened senses told him that they were noticing his more muscular physique, which was quite noticeable. Seeing as he was supposed to be ill, he figured this would be bad if he didn't get Baya away. "So I was just nearby," he fibbed, feeling uncomfortable. "Did you need some company on the way home?"

Baya smirked as she watched Reid diss the jock in his attempt at a handshake. Reid was way too good for this guy. And she was sure that Reid (and probably the runner) knew it as well. She watched as the other guy quickly and swiftly retreated having now been blown off by both of them. She appreciated the aid Reid had given her and the out. "Thanks for the help with him"
She knew he was right that she didnt need help with her homework. In fact the assignment was pretty much done already, and just needed a little proof reading. Baya wondered if he was just helping her get away from the guy and didnt actually want to help her with anything else, or spend any longer with her. "Yeah, I'm sure I've got it covered" She said with a nod.
He then confused her again by offering her company on the way home. She had just decided he didnt want to spend time with her and he was offering more of it. It confused her and she knew it was pulling at her heart which was more and more interested in him these days. She knew if this all ended up being some big joke to him to see how much she wanted to see him she'd end up hating him for the rest of her life. Her feelings were too involved already to have him playing with them. But the offer of company was one she couldnt refuse on the chance he was being sincere. "If you dont have plans, sure I'll take the company" She told him, then moving a little closer so she could lower her voice and still have him hear. "How are you feeling? " She asked, wondering if that was the reason he came to talk to her, just needing someone to vent to.

Reid resorted to nod lamely as she confirmed that she, in fact, didn't need any help on the homework. He had known as much, but her saying it reminded him that his was running out of excuses. If she was going to allow him to hang out with her, he wanted to do it right and not because he'd weaseled his way in. He thanked his luck stars when she accepted his company on the way home, glad he'd have some time to tell her everything he wanted to. Nothing felt as important as this, and he hoped that the walk was long enough to get everything out.
Pivoting in his spot, he started walking along her, biding his time until they were far enough away from the school to talk to her. He wasn't sure what her reaction would be, but a calm and collected one wasn't to be expected. Just as he had felt lighthearted and excited in one moment, he felt the full weight of guilt when she made it a point to ask after his health. Of course she was going to ask him how he felt. He had given her the impression that he was seriously ill, and now he was paying for it. His gaze dropped, and he pretended to squint down into the distance where the little bit of sun was shining through. "I'm feeling ok," he mumbled. He was torn by the relief that soon he'd be able to redeem himself from lying to her, and the possibility of her being angry at him for lying to her. "Thanks for asking," he added, smiling weakly. He wished she would walk a little faster, taking them away from the school, but also felt his mind unraveling. All the things he'd planned to say, explaining everything, were starting to leak out of his mind. "How is school, so far?" he blurted, finding the need to stall a little bit more. He was getting increasingly nervous, and walked with his hands in his pockets to keep from fidgeting. He looked like a very muscular, yet awkward, teen; quite the opposite to the old Reid was mostly stoic and poised with not much to say and not much reaction to others.

For the first time that Baya could remember while being with Reid, she actually felt nervous as they began to walk in a bit of silence, away from the school. She didn't know what it was but something was different. He wasn't acting like himself (she had never known Reid Garwin to offer to walk her home before), and she still had a nagging feeling that his sickness was something worse than he had let on before. She wondered if he was getting ready to tell her he was terminal or something horrible like that. Maybe he just needed one person to confide in and she was the only one he had left.
When she did finally get up the courage to ask him, she saw him turn away and mumble that he was okay. It wasn't a very convincing act to her, but she knew she had to give him time to open up. She nodded as he thanked her for asking. "You're welcome...you know you can talk to me about it if you want.." She said trying not to seem too pushy.
Baya gave a light shrug as he asked her about school. It was really the last thing she wanted to talk about right now when she was so worried about him. "Its going okay...nothing too exciting really" She said watching the way he walked much more awkwardly than usual. Something was definitely up.

Reid felt the hole he'd dug for himself become deeper without any effort on his part. She was being a good friend, asking how he was and offering herself to listen to anything he needed to share. He was sure someone with a mysterious disease probably had some insight to share or fears to confess, but Reid had no idea what something like that would sound like. His mind quickly scrambled to think of something to talk about other than his fictitious disease. Of course, he could bring up the subject he had intended to, but the closer he thought he got to bringing it up, the more he wanted to avoid it. Instead of answering her offer by either accepting or declining, he continued walking forward at her side.
Shrugging a little, he understood the disinterest in school. "Nothing too crazy now," he told her. "Just wait until the teachers start piling everything on altogether." He wanted to tell her how crazy it gets with exams and college applications, but he instinctively stayed away from the thought. He didn't know what to think when she decided on college, leaving him on La Push. They started approaching a small bend in the road surrounded by some wooded area. As they approached it, Reid's sensitive hearing sensed a few sets of very familiar steps. One human, two wolf. He automatically looked behind them, but knew they would remain in the woods. He turned a deep shade of red, imagining the things his brothers would be thinking. They knew what his feelings were like, but they only felt a fraction of it and the confusion he felt trying to figure out how to fix what he started. Instinctively trying to protect himself, he shoved his hands in his pocket. He was uncomfortable being watched, but he didn't want Baya to know they were being followed. "So what do you have planned for the rest of the day?"

Baya tilted her head to look over at Reid after offering him a chance to talk about how he was feeling and what he was going through. But in typical Reid fashion, he kept everything to himself and didnt even respond to it. She wasn't angry at him as she might have been if she had been waiting on a response about something else. She didnt want to push him to talk if it would only make it worse for him. She just wanted to help, if there was even anything she could do to help. So she decided to let him change the subject, and have control of the conversation for now.
"Yeah, I've got a ton of due dates coming up but they seem too far away now to stress about....check back in another week or two" She said with a smile, sure that the year would end up getting to her sooner or later. She saw Reid look over his shoulder behind him and she gave a glance in that direction too, not seeing anyone or hearing anything. Was he expecting someone else? Maybe he hadnt even come to see her today but had just run into her first. His face seemed to flush a little and she worried that he was feeling sick.
"Um, no big plans" She told him. "Probably take Dexter for a walk a little later" She said not wanting to sound like a loser without a life but also not wanting to seem like she had set plans that she couldnt change if he wanted someone to spend time with. "What are you up to today?"

Catching Baya glance over her own shoulder as he did, he sighed a little in frustration. He didn't want to be followed, and Baya, who picked up on everything, had picked up his glance. This was going all wrong right now, and Reid could feel it all falling apart. He wished he was able to share his mind with his brothers in his human form as well as his wolf form, simply for the need to tell them to buzz off already. As if this wasn't difficult enough, they were stalking him while he was trying to get close to Baya. It automatically put him on edge, and she could sense it. He concentrated on her, and smirked a little. He didn't want to wait a week or two to check on her, so he would have to come up with excuses, like today, to see her more often. He wasn't sure how he was going to pull it off since he and Baya never really hung out, and he was realizing that his plan to tell her everything was a bad idea. He hadn't even let her get to know him, and now they were supposed to be soulmates? The least that he owed to her was for them to be friends, maybe she could know that he wasn't so bad.
He looked forward, determined to ignore the following footsteps, and swallowed a big chunk of his pride. "Do you mind if I tag along?" he asked, glancing at her. It was unusual for Reid to make any kind of request. He was used to just doing things when he felt like it, but he now he really felt a true reason for doing things the right way. He wanted to earn Baya's friendship.

Baya heard the sigh Reid gave and wondered what she'd done to provoke it. Did he think she wasn't focused because she had looked around? If he had something important to tell her he's want her full attention, even if he was looking around distracted. She decided to ignore the surroundings and focus on him, seeing his smirk as she looked at him. It sent a little flutter through her chest.
Baya was a bit puzzled by his request. He wanted to tag along while she walked her dog? Something really was going on with him. Had he gotten lonely? "Umm, no, you're more than welcome" She told him, giving a little smirk as she added. "So long as you don't mind a little dog drool, Dex'll be excited to have someone new with us"

Reid's grin fell just a little as he heard Baya hesitate for a second before agreeing to let him come along on her dog walk. It seemed as if she had to put more thought into it than he would have liked, but in the end she'd accepted. Whether she was unsure or not, he would take it and make the most of it. As much as he wanted to tell her everything, he wanted more to make up for his behavior in the past. When he presented to the truth to her, he wanted her to believe him without a doubt. It seemed impossible, but he would try because he knew he would invest everything he had in any truth she had to offer him.
His grin picked up at the notion of dog drool. She had no idea what dog drool was, though he would be careful around her in the future so as to not get her slobbered. Reid quickly curbed his thoughts as they started to run away from him, and reminded himself that he needed to take it one step at a time. First, let's deal with the little dog's drool. "I haven't seen Dex in a while," he said. "Lead the way."
