[Mid-Eclipse - after Good Riddance to You] Running was out of the question. It would be hard to run in public without having anyone notice. Firstly, Reid wasn't supposed to be here anymore. He'd been talking about North Carolina for the better part of the year and he was still getting poorly disguised inquires as to why he had decided to stay after all. He had to swallow every single word he'd uttered through clenched teeth and tell them whatever excuse happened to come to mind at the moment. And secondly, everything he ever did now was different. The people who had known him since he was a baby would certainly notice the sudden speed and grace Reid's stride had picked up recently. So no. Running out of the question.
Instead he walked, as slowly as he could manage without driving himself mad, with his hands dug deep into his sweatpants. The last couple of weeks had been insane, and had turned his life completely inside out. He had known all the legends well, probably better than most kids. He had loved them so much when he was younger. But after the first few days of his first, and most painful, transformation, he still almost couldn't believe that it was true. He'd eventually found the others, surprised that there were already so many, and had allowed them to lead him into this life. His insides were warring with each other as he walked down the beach towards his house. He was resentful because he had to stay, amazed and excited about the validity of their legends. He was intrigued and satisfied with the new enhanced abilities, afraid of encountering his first vampire. He was honored to serve his tribes, but hated that the leeches had taken everything out from underneath him.
His hands trembled in his pockets, and he closed his eyes, afraid to lose control. He wasn't good at it at all, and had already phased out of fury numerous times. He had to get it together before he reached his house.[Baya <3]

Baya had some free time and decided to head down to the beach, one of her favorite spots. It actually wasn't too freezing today, and the rain seemed to have stopped for awhile. She was wearing a chocolate brown colored bikini that complimented her skin tones, and a wrap around her waist that was tied off at the side. She sat down in the sand, taking off her flip flops and letting the sand in between her toes. There were still some rough waves out on the water, a little more than she liked to swim in but she knew the water changed frequently and she should have a chance to go in if she was patient enough. She had all day so was in no rush.
Baya leaned back allowing her arms to support her as she closed her eyes just enjoying the peacefulness of being out here alone. The sound of the waves against the shore, and the feeling of the warm sun on her skin (or as warm as Forks got on a June day). It was so completely relaxing out here. She couldnt think of any place she'd rather be right now.

Eyes closed, but walking in a straight path forward, he had tried to pace his breathing with the sound of the waves against the shore; it helped only a little. He let his new and sensitive hearing to reach out and seek another rhythm to time his breaths and heartbeats, when his ears encountered another beat not too far away. Though unexpected, his own pulse responded to this new sound, stuttering in its even throb. Reid opened his eyes and saw Baya Solomon there, just lying in the sand as if it were her own private beach. The little bit of sun that was able to right through the cloud cover played with the hues of her rich skin, and Reid felt the sudden impulse and need to go to her. He didn't know what it was, but he didn't fight it and let his legs lead him to where she was.
His pulse seemed to know something he did not, and his heart was now throbbing in his chest, sending a deeper color to Reid's face. "Baya?" he called out when he was only a few yards away.

Baya opened up her eyes as she heard the familiar voice. She turned her head seeing Reid approaching. She was surprised to see him. She had heard that he had changed his plans and decided to stay in LaPush, but she couldn't for the life of her figure out why. He had always seemed so anxious to get out of town, to leave the reservation as soon as possible. Then when he gets his chance, gets accepted to a good university, he blows it off. Baya couldn't figure out why. She wondered what kind of mood he'd be in now. Would staying here, the place he once hated have made him even more bitter to the point of being almost intolerable, or did he find some kind of peace with who he was and where he was from that had given him an acceptance, and maybe even love for his home.
Baya sat up straighter as she looked at him. A smile appeared on her face before she even realized that she happy to see him. She really was happy to see him again, and was hoping that he wasn't just passing through. It was an oddly warm feeling that was going through her. She found herself not even caring if he was in one of his bad moods. She still hoped he'd stay.
"Hey Reid...its good to see you" She told him.

For a second, Reid was expecting some attitude; she would tease him about staying behind or about making all the girls happy by doing so. Or maybe it was one of those days where she was just stubborn and obnoxious. He was preparing his first snarky comment when she suddenly opened her eyes and sat up, but the deep chocolate of her eyes and bright smile that he gave her stopped him in his tracks, and his thoughts were thrown away. He stood there for a second, his eyes widening tenderly and his own smile appeared on his tired face. He felt the the warmth of her skin make its way across to him and touch his own body, stunting the trembling in this hands and legs that he'd been trying to control for the last few minutes. It was like he had never seen her before. Just a short time before, he would have barely admitted that the girl was good looking, to protect his pride. But now he could never concieve a more magnificent angel, blessing the shores of their beach with her angelic form.
He had been so eager to leave everyone and everything that he ever knew; exchange it for something better and more worth his time and effort. And now he couldn't imagine why he ever wanted to leave this behind, leave her behind. The warmth that had calmed him was spreading throughout his body, kissing his aches and pains away. The worry he'd felt, the resentment eating at him... it was all gone and he could only see Baya sitting before him with a radiant smile. "Baya," he said again, a sweet and low utterance, afraid that he might say it wrong. "I'm so glad to see you." He was earnest and sincere, like he hadn't been since he was a child. For so many years he's spoken with sarcasm and harshness that had lost him friends. But they were nothing compared to her, for she was everything and he was nothing at all. He realized that he was much too far away from her and finished crossing the short distance between them, sitting on the ground right next to her, with his back to the beach so he could face her. "I..."
Never in his life had he been so lost for words, he was afraid that everything he would say would be wrong. But he couldn't just sit there, he needed to make everything up to her... show how her that he wasn't always such a jackass. "How have you been?"

Baya had never seen Reid so quiet and without an immediate insult before. It was unlike him to be standing there, looking at someone and be speechless. Sure he'd be quiet if he was trying to avoid having a conversation or if he was purposely being rude to someone, but he looked just about as stunned as she was starting to feel by him being here. She never remembered feeling this happy around him before, even when they got along. Now she was just excited to see him and happy when he decided to sit down next to her.
As happy as his action made her, she also became immediately confused. Reid Garwin was not the type of guy to just sit down in the sand next to someone. No, if he was going to join her he'd make some stupid comments first, make her ask him to sit down, and then concede with a huff. Even if it was what he wanted all along. And telling her that he was glad to see her? That was very out of character. "Why are you acting nice? What's wrong with you? What'd you do? " She asked, wondering if he was trying to make up for doing something stupid like backing into her car.
He seemed to be acting so strangely. He looked relaxed, not bitter as she had expected and happy, like she was feeling. Even more, he seemed to be actually trying to be sociable. She was confused by it, but didnt really want to discourage it either, she liked this side of him. Even if it was really weird and a bit unsettling. She felt even more relaxed with him now than usual. "I'm good, just enjoying the day. How have you been?"

Reid felt the sting of Baya's reaction like a slap in the face. After years of cold cynicism and sarcasm, he should have expected it, especially from Baya who was so honest and bold. Reid's face fell slightly at her suspicion; he knew he deserved it and he probably deserved worse. No one should treat someone like Baya like that. But a part of his mind was struck by the questions himself. Even until this morning, he still retained his snarky disposition. His new brothers found amusement in his humor when he wasn't lurking on the more cruel thoughts, but he was just as grumpy as always.
Why was he being so nice to her? Of course, she had always received less harsh treatment from him, but he had never looked at her so openly and with such reverence. He looked at her again, the curiosity gracing her beautiful features, making his heart flutter. He remembered thinking her pretty and smart when they were in school, but now those simple terms were insulting; she was gorgeous and bright and amazing. Suddenly his thoughts stopped dead, his mouth dropped slightly. He looked at her in shock, still with a trace of the new found admiration he'd started to feel less than 5 minutes ago. He had always remembered the legends very well, he had been proud of his tribes, and his knowledge of them. And the last few weeks he'd been learning how much of them were actually true. It had filled him with pride and joy. But this particular legend... he knew some of his new brothers had found truth and happiness. Was this what he thought it was? What was wrong with him? Absolutely nothing. What had he done? "I think I've impr-"
Somehow, he had managed to stop himself. He wasn't sure what he was talking about. Whatever it was, he knew it was amazing and that it had brought Baya to him even though he deserved to lose her. He looked into her eyes, wanting to explain, but unsure if it was true and not wanting to scare her. "I've... A lot of things have changed lately," he said a little lower, his voice hoarse. His eyes were wide and innocent, wanting to tell her everything, but knowing that it wasn't best for her to know just yet. He had to do everything right. She didn't trust him yet, and he needed that first.
He took a deep breath to steady himself, because he wanted to tell her everything. How scared he was, and confused. "I've just been a bit busy, and really tired." He sounded tired as he said it. The words themselves conjured the aching in his limbs and the haziness of his mind. It was the cliffnotes version of the truth, but it was the best he could give her and it made him feel terrible.

As Baya watched Reid's reactions to her words, she felt a little guilty. He actually looked hurt by her comments about his behavior. This was definitely not like him, but if he was actually trying to be nice, without an alterior motive, she didn't want to end up being the bitch who gave him a hard time for it and changed his mind. She liked the idea of a softer Reid. It was just something new she was trying to experience.
She tried to figure out what he was thinking next as his jaw dropped with a look of realization on his face as he started to say something but caught himself. He what? Impr? The only thing she could thing of to finish that word was impregnate. He impregnated someone! Oh My god... Baya thought mentally freaking out at the idea. No wonder he was acting so different. He probably really needed a friend to talk to about this. She'd be there for him if she could. It was all starting to make sense. A baby would keep him on the reservation.
But shockingly enough to Baya, she found herself feeling a surge of jealousy. She hated the idea that he was having a baby with another woman. She had certainly never entertained the idea of having a family with him before, but now that it appeared to her that he was starting one of his own, she hated the mystery woman for stealing her friend from her before she had a chance to see if maybe he was feeling the way she was right now. She looked down, not wanting him to see any more of the blantant jealousy she was feeling on her face than he probably already did.
Baya listened as he tried to explain about going through changes and being tired. It all fit her theory, of course he'd be tired and changing his whole life if he was having a kid. That changed everything. "You got someone pregnant didnt you...Thats why you stayed, you impregnated someone"

Suddenly upset at himself, Reid wished he would be more confident in his knowledge to know exactly what was going on. This sounded like an imprint, and more importantly... it felt like it. Reading his new brothers' minds had given him access to their thoughts and emotions on many things. Jared and Sam had this incredible feeling of happiness and unconditional love emanating from them whenever they thought about Kim and Emily, respectively. What Reid felt now was so familiar, but infinitely stronger. It took his breath away as much as the sight of her face. His tired arms were only strengthened by the fact that she was so near and kept him upright as he put his weight on them. He tried to make everything fit into what he thought was going on, but he had always been cautious about any conclusion. His slow approach and need for proof was what had made him such a good student, it was a hard habit to kick. And he didn't want to tell her anything that later turned out to be true; he desperately needed to find one of his brothers, but he couldn't leave Baya behind just yet.
He looked at her face as she caught what he had almost said. Of course she caught it, he knew she was a smart girl. He tried to read her face, but instantly hated himself for not letting himself get to know her better when he'd had the chance before. He couldn't tell what she was thinking or feeling. She couldn't possibly know what he had almost said... right? A bit of worry appeared on his brow when her gaze fell down... until she opened her mouth. Startled, Reid was sobered a bit from the feeling of elation from being near her? "Impregnate?" he said with dislike, as if it were an unsightly disease. "That's stupid, Baya, come on," he told her, laughing a bit nervously, though glad that she had guessed wrong. He looked away, trying to hide the panic in his eyes before looking back at her. "It's just a lot of crazy stuff with... my health." Technically, it wasn't 100% fabricated. His health had changed dramatically since his transformation... though for the better. But he refused to tell her anything concrete until he was absolutely sure. The alpha commands were something he had instantly taken a disliking to, pushed against his will, and he had no desire to test its boundary by trying to tell Baya what was really going on. He was wishing on every rock on the beach that she would buy his story, and looked at her earnestly.

Baya stayed there staring at him in shock and jealousy, just waiting for his confirmation that to her theory that he had gotten someone pregnant. She wondered who it was. She hadn't even known him to be dating anyone but then again you didn't need to be dating someone to get them pregnant. The thought that Reid would be so careless infuriated her as much as she was trying to be the supportive friend. But then to her surprise he denied it and called it a stupid idea. Okay, so maybe the stupid part didn't sound surprising coming from Reid. "What am I supposed to think you were starting to say something like that..."
Baya's expression then softened to a worry as she heard him mention his health. Reid was sick, and that was why he was staying. But what disease sounded like impregnate? She wished she had paid better attention in health class. "You're sick?" She asked him softly, her voice full of concern. "I'm so sorry Reid...I had no idea there was anything wrong with your health...what is it?"

No. Nononono. He took it all back. He didn't want to tell her anything he wasn't sure of, but he also didn't want her to think something so far from the truth. Yes, he was physically different, but now she looked concerned. The look in her eyes stimulated guilt in Reid. He had her right in front of her, and he was already screwing this up entirely. He was sure that when she found out the truth, she would finally be fed up with his crap and never talk to him again. Baya was a steady girl, she didn't take this from anyone.
He dropped his head, ashamed because he knew that he'd have to go along with it until he figure out what this was; the feeling in his heart and the warmth in his body. His gut told him he knew exactly what it was, but his gut had gotten him into trouble before. "I'm not sure yet," he said, feeling awful. He struggled to keep truth into what he was saying, trying to make it not so bad. "My muscles ache a lot, and sleeping doesn't come easy." He felt his hands shake at the frustration. As he spoke every word, he hated himself for deceiving her. He felt this new urge to keep her included, even if it wasn't all truth. "But I'm actually feeling great right now." The tiniest smirk appeared on his changed, more severe face, reminiscent of the attitude he was known for.

Baya tried to keep herself from tearing up as she saw the way that Reid was reacting. It had to be something serious for him to have stayed back. He was sick with some horrible disease and here she was not even able to keep herself together. She forced back the tears, not allowing herself to shed them. It would just make the situation worse, make Reid feel worse about what he was going through. This was about him right now, not how she was feeling about the news. When he lowered his hand, Baya moved positions, shifting up so that she was on her knees, sitting back on the heels of her feet, but closer to him this time, as she reached forward and touched his arm, wanting to just take him into her arms but not knowing how he'd react. "Reid...I'm so sorry..."
She listened as he described how he had been feeling, wondering what had caused it. She could feel her emotions balling up in the back of her throat as the thought occured to her that she could lose Reid. She had thought he was going to move away not to long ago, but the thought now of never seeing him again, and that something this horrible could happen felt like it would break her into a million pieces. "Have you seen a doctor?" She asked him quietly then gave a soft smile as she saw his smirk as he spoke of feeling good right now. "Good! Then dont go running of, just stay here and rest for awhile"

A pained look crossed Reid's face when he saw Baya's eyes water. He had upset her and it was all because of a lie he had started. If she kept asking questions, he'd answer them to fit the lie and he wondered what was the point where he would lose track. Reid felt frustrated all over again with himself, not knowing how to get himself out of his. His hands began to tremble again, unable to contain his frustration. It was soon joined by fear of not being able to control himself. If he didn't keep his cool, he would phase right in front of her. His mind briefly brought up the image of Emily, and the shaking in his hands doubled. He shut his eyes, struggling with himself, but he was suddenly calmed by a warm touch to his arm. He opened his eyes again and saw Baya's soft hand on him, giving him every single ounce of calm that he needed. He felt relief and guilt in equal parts, but they were nothing compared to the warmth and happiness he felt with her close.
He searched her eyes, trying to find the answer, but only finding guilt in his gut. He knew his next words were a lie. "Yea. I've seen a couple, but they haven't figured much out." He looked away, unable to lie while looking at her, but his head lifted again when she said she wanted him to stay. His eyes were softer again, despite his more hardened expressions since his transformation. He was able to relax a little, now that he was actually invited to stay. "So what have you been up to?" It was a lame deflection, but he wanted the attention off of him. He was sure she couldn't answer with much since they had just graduated from high school and there was probably not much to report. But he needed to buy some time to find something to talk about that would completely take the attention from him so he wouldn't have to make up more lies to keep her suspicions away.

Baya couldn't help but notice how warm Reid felt to the touch. She didn't know if she was just looking for things now that she knew he was sick or if he really was as feverish as she thought. He had told her he was feeling good now, but he was burning up. Maybe he had been sick so much lately that he had started to cope with certain symptoms, like the fever. She felt horrible for him for having to go through all of this. She wished she had known so she could have been there for him, if he would have let her.
"You can't give up Reid, keep looking until they find what's wrong. I'll go with you if you want, make some calls?'" Baya offered, ready to annoy every doctor in the country until they found out what was wrong with him. She wouldn't let Reid just get sicker, she couldn't lose him, not ever.
Baya frowned slightly as he changed the subject to talk about her. It seemed so unlike him that it worried her, but he knew this couldn't be easy to talk about and thought maybe it would help to take his mind off of it even if just for a little while. "Not a whole lot, just getting ready for my senior year...any pointers?"

A little smile grew on his face when she asked offered her help to whatever he needed with the doctors. He was equally guilty for letting her buy into such a lie, but he her reaction told him that she was worried. He was silently trying keep track of everything she did, fitting it together with everything he felt. He had never wanted something so much before. He had once wanted UNC really badly, but he worked for it, had earned it and deserved it. Looking at Baya and watching her worry over him... he felt like there was nothing he could do to deserve any gesture from her. "No, it's ok," he said, dipping his head again, "Please don't worry about me. I think... I have a really good feeling about this." He smiled at his own words, trying to convey that good feeling even though he couldn't tell her about it. He was torn between running off and asking Sam if he was right, and he wanted to be right, and just staying here with her and this amazing feeling.
"Senior year is easy," he told her, his smile growing wider. "Just keep away from crazy parties and you won't fail." His smile only faltered a little bit at the thought of her at any party at all. Probably with some dumb kids hitting on her all the time. If he could he would be there blocking the way, maybe he'd do it anyway. The locker room was home of the dirtiest minds in the school, and he instantly remembered the number of times when Baya had been the subject of conversation. His smile faltered a little bit more when he imagined the guys at these parties, and his mind continued to run out of control with several situations that he didn't want Baya in. "Yea parties are a bad idea," he repeated. "That and sitting in thr front row in economics."
