“It’s too late for that” Baya told him softly as he told her not to worry. She knew it was foolish of her but in the midst of her worry she was feeling a love for Reid. It was silly and childish, since she knew they were just friends and he had his pick of the girls. She also knew her feelings were inappropriate right now, with him telling her about his sickness. She just wanted to be there for him, and make sure he was alright. If her crush didn’t go anywhere, she’d be fine with it, just knowing he was alright. She smiled lightly as he mentioned having a good feeling about this. “Good, keep thinking positive, that’s supposed to help right?”
Baya tried to push aside her concerns for a moment so that she wouldn’t make this all harder on him as she listened to him talking about senior year. She smiled again as he spoke of staying away from crazy parties so she wouldn’t fail. “You didn’t grace any of the big parties with your presence last year?” She asked. She watched as his smile faded and knew there was more on his mind that the idea of her failing. He had to have so much he was thinking about right now. He was fighting for his life. “Got it, parties and front row economics are bad”

Another surge of remorse hit Reid when Baya expressed concern for him. He didn't want her to worry about him, especially when there wasn't a moment when he'd felt better than he did right now. Her smile was another dose of warming sensation to his wrangled body. He desperately needed to keep her happy and smiling like that. He now felt like this was what he was meant to do, and why he and Baya had met at all. It had taken him years and a legendary transformation to realize it, but later was better than never.
Positive thinking. Funnily enough, it was all he could do at the moment. He had never felt this comfortable with anything or anyone, not even with himself. And being close to her like this made him think that only good things could happen to him. To them. He smiled when she poked fun at him, but it was different. Before today, any teasing between Baya and himself was dripping with sarcasm and maybe a bit of disdain for each other. But now he could only appreciate her humor, and smile contently. "I didn't make too many appearances," she admitted, shrugging slightly. "I just studied a lot. So, I can't help you much with partying," he told her, still not liking the idea of her going to parties of that sort," but I'm good for tutoring if you ever need it." He hoped she would accept his offer. He knew she was intelligent and generally did well in school, but his proposition was open to her anyway.

Baya could see that her expressing her worry for Reid was only making him feel worse. The look on his face told her that much. She should have known guys never want to look weak and Reid espeically would never want her pity or sympathy. She didnt pity him, she just wanted to find a way to make him better and not have to go through whatever this sickness was alone. She wanted him to know he had a friend.
She reazlied that changing the subject must have been his way of avoiding dealing with all of this. If talking about her boring school life helped ease his mind for a few minutes she'd do her best. She smiled back as she saw him smile in response to her light teasing, glad to see that look on his face. "You were too good for the bonfire parties on the beach" She said, not in a mocking way but knowing he probably was better than this whole reservation. She was surprised as he then went on to offer to tutor her. She instantly wanted to take him up on his offer, even if she didnt need it just so she could see him again. She tried to convince herself the reaction was only in wanting to see that he was still okay but she knew it was as must just to see him. "Really? Yeah that'd be great, thanks" She said sincerely.

Nodding in agreement, Reid was surprised that she'd take him up on tutoring session. He seriously doubted she needed any help of her own. As far as he remembered, she was an excellent student on her own. He wondered why she had been accepted his offer, and his eyes flickered up to her again. He wondered if she would let him tutor him because she felt bad for him, thinking that he was sick. The little bit of hope that he felt thinking that she'd done it because maybe she was feeling his theoretical imprint was decimated. Of course she would try to make him feel better, no one was intentional mean to someone who was as ill as he was describing himself. He felt like an ass for letting her think that he was in such a state.
Just when Reid thought he couldn't feel worse, Baya's comment felt like another slap in the face. She was right. At some point, he had decided that nothing on the reservation was worth his time, and had dedicated himself to getting out of there instead. Now that he was here, wanting nothing else but to be nowhere else, and finding himself beneath Baya's consideration. "Yea... I guess I had a bad attitude," he admitted shamefully, wiping his face with a hand. "I was a jackass." He shrugged defeatedly, not knowing how to justify any of it. Baya didn't take that kind of nonsense from anyone, he shouldn't expect that he'd be the exception.

Watching Reid's face after she accepted his offer to tutor her, Baya saw conflicting emotions and wasn't quite sure how he felt about it. Had he already regretted making the offer to her? Was it just something nice to say in a conversation about school, that now he felt obligated when he wasn't feeling up to much of anything? She felt like she wasn't doing anything right, yet knew deep down she'd never stop trying to get closer to him, a feelng she never remembered having this strongly.
When Reid went on to say he had a bad attitude, Baya felt horrible for her comment. Sometimes she spoke without thinking, but this time she hadn't thought he'd react that way when he had said the same thing before. This time she wasn't mocking him as she may have done in the past, she believed him. "You didnt have a bad attitude and you dont now" She said then reaching over and touching his arm as he called himself a jackass, feeling the warmth, and knowing he was ill. "You're not, don't talk like that. If you were, do you think I'd still be here?" She said giving him a weak smile.

The thumping in his chest sputtered a bit when Baya continued to justify his behavior in the past. She was probably just being nice because she thought he was sick, and took pity on him. Even if he really bad been a jackass, which he was, she would never make someone feel bad when they were already in that kind of position. She was infinitely more considerate than he was, and he didn't deserve it.
The sudden touch on his hand sent waves of warmth up his arm, reminding him of the very real possibility of what it could be interpreted as. Though he couldn't say it to her just yet, he had just imprinted on someone he would die to deserve. He felt her touch soothe his aching muscles, and allowed him to return the small smile she'd given him. It was a rare sight, Reid smiling sincerely, but it was much more pleasant than anyone could imagine. He even surprised himself. "No, it's ok," he told her, not allowing her to defend him. "I know what I'm like, but I'm trying to get better." As he said the words, he believed that he really wanted to, because he wanted her to think he was a good person too; not the stuck up kid she knew in high school.

Baya saw a small smile returned on Reid's lips. It wasn't a common sight to see. Sure there was the frequent self righteous grin or smirk from the Reid she had seen in the halls of their small high school, but this was a more soft and tender look. It looked attractive on him, but she knew it was probably only from his condition.
She heard him accept the fault for who he was, but say that he was trying to get better. She had never thought Reid cared how other people saw him, nor would he ever try to change himself for anyone or any reason. "Well, you don't seem like that today, so I guess its already working" She said giving him an encouraging smile. Maybe he was trying to make amends and become a better person, if he thought this was the end for him.

It was getting more and more difficult to sit there and keep calm with her in front of her. Reid's mind was racing with excitement and confusion. It was a challenge to keep himself together, and he dug his hands deeper into his pockets to hide the fact that they were shaking. It was a strange sensationn to experience. For the most part, it was anger or a related emotion that would have turned him to phase, but the tremors were slowly breaking through his will.
Realizing that his control was slowly unraveling, and not at all confident that he'd be able to regain it before it was too late, he started getting up again, trying to appear calm, but a bit of panic evident in his voice. "I'm sorry, I forgot I really had to go," he said feeling awful. "Tell me we'll hang out soon, ok?" No, that sounded wrong. He didn't want to force her to do anything. "I mean... if you want to... of course."

Baya thought that things were going well today. Even if she had just found out about Reid being sick, he had smiled and seemed to have a new and better outlook on life. The chip on his shoulder that he usually carried around seemed to have been lifted and she really thought she was seeing another side to him. A side that she really liked. She knew it was more than feeling sorry for him because of the illness.
But despite what Baya thought was a good conversation, Reid stood up and said he had to go. "You have to go?" She asked standing up as he did, and wondering what she had said to change things. She didn't believe that he actually had someplace to go and was sure it was her fault. But if he was angry at her for something she said and trying to get away why did he want her to assure him that they'd hang out again soon? "Yeah...I do want to, anytime" She said reaching out and touching his arm. "Reid, are you sure you have to go? Please just stay...Was it something I said? I'm sorry..." She said shaking her head.

A little grin came through the worried look on Reid's face when Baya said said she did want to meet up. Again, he couldn't tell if she would because she was starting to feel what he felt, or because she felt bad for him. Reid was definitely full of himself, but even he wouldn't be so bad as to think that Baya wanted to see him as he wanted her.
The shaking in his arms was slowly traveling upwards, but it was immediately stunted when she reached out an touched his arm. He felt a revitalizing wave of relief that temporarily cured him in that arm. The other arm still quivered slightly from his lack of control, and a look of surprise escaped him when he looked at her. "Um... yea I kind of have to go," he said, though he hated hiself for doing it. His face soon showed confusion. "No, you didn't say anything wrong, really," he told her sincerely. "I was actually supposed to go back a while ago," he said, only half lying. He really should have been napping, recharging his batteries before his next patrol, but now he knew he would lose sleep entirely; he was too excited. "How about tomorrow? Is that ok?" He wanted to make sure that she didn't think he was upset. Why would he be upset? He felt so incredibly happy right now, his only regret was that he couldn't tell her.

Baya could feel the heat coming from his arm as she reached forward and touched it wishing to stop him from going it. But feeling how hot he was (and assuming it was some sort of fever) she felt guilty at trying to stop him. Maybe he needed to lay down and just didnt want to tell her he was feeling worse. Maybe he wasn't even supposed to be outside at all. But she couldnt help but worry that she had said something to upset him, and she knew that right now, she really cared about how he thought of her, perhaps for the first time.
He looked almost surprised as she looked up at him, wondering if he was just surprised at how insecure she seemed in this moment. It wasn't like her at all. "Are you sure?" She asked as he said she didnt say anything, really not wanting to offend him. "Okay.." She nodded as he explained he was supposed to be back earlier. "Tomorrow.." She repeated, still feeling a bit lost between his need to go and yet seeming to want to see her, maybe he really did just need to get back. She smiled and gave a nod. "Yeah tomorrow's fine...where do you want to meet?"
