[Mid(ish) Eclipse: a few weeks after Revelation Interrupted] After so many hours of vigorous patrolling, Reid sometimes felt a little strange when he was in human form. Walking with two legs and using his vocal chords to communicate felt odd at times. He knew it was necessary with the recent events, but whenever he was human, he felt the true weight of his work schedule, and would completely crash for several hours. It was easy, however, to renew his motivation for his next patrolling shift: Baya. The though alone invigorated his muscles and carried him in his duties. He needed to protect La Push; protect her. Of course, she didn't know this, and would be upset whenever Reid had to suddenly have to leave. He tried his best every time to make it up to her, but it was hard to when they weren't actually 'official' just yet. It was obvious that he cared for her, and he was happy that she had allowed him to progress foward. Slowly, but forward.
There were still missing elements in their growing relationship, however. And some extra elements that Reid wished every day that he hadn't added. Firstly, he hadn't really clarified that he, in fact, was not ill. Secondly, the reason he was always disappearing was because he was patrolling the Reservation in the form of a Wolf. And lastly, they were soulmates. How did you tell your soulmate that you are her soulmate? Awkward. As he made his way to his usual meeting spot to see her, Reid's mind wheeled over the many ways he could correct two of the three. The bloodsuckers were circling on their territory for some reason, and they couldn't find the source or a pattern no matter how hard they ran through past the borders. Sometimes Reid thought the Cullens were behind it all, but the mere thought made Jake's growl echo through the forests. Reid had to work extra hard to keep his thoughts to himself. The truth of the matter was that Reid job was getting more and more dangerous by the day, and he felt that Baya at least needed to know what kind of danger that was. Sitting in front a familar stray log facing the beach, Reid leaned back and closed his eyes. He was a bit early, but he hoped to just close his eyes and regain some of the lost sleep from the last few weeks.

Baya had been spending a lot more time with Reid lately, something that had been a pleasant surprise. With him graduated, she had assumed he'd have left the reservation and she'd probably never see him again, unless he was coming to visit his family. But he had stayed, and more than that, he seemed interested in keeping up his friendship with her, even when they weren't just too people running into each other in the halls of their school.
As Baya made her way to the spot on the beach where she frequently met up with Reid she could feel her heart fluttering a bit in anticipation. She knew that she was falling for him, but also knew how dangerous that was. Reid didnt exactly having the reputation for being the type of guy who would want to be a steady boyfriend, or even stick around long enough to. He barely seemed to care much about anyone, but during these past few weeks, Baya would have sworn she had seen that change and that he may actually care about her too. She just hoped it wasn't wishful thinking on her part.
As she walked up to where she saw Reid already on the beach, she saw him leaning back with his eyes closed and wondered if he was napping. She knew if he was asleep she should let him rest, as he needed it. He still hadn't confided in her the details of his illness, but she was sure extra sleep would be something that could help. She quietly made her way over to him and sat down beside him, looking out into the water.

The sounds of the waves were slowly luring Reid into a gentle sleep right where he was sitting. It would only be a few short hours before he had to go back on patrol, and falling asleep would be so easy right then and there. '
Reid's imagination lead him out into the ocean on his surfboard with no intention of riding a wave but simply watching the shoreline from a distance; vigilant. Of course, not far behind was Baya, standing on the shore smiling at me. His imaginary self was about to paddle back to shore towards her, but his heightened senses picked up the sounds of someone approaching. It took a split second for him to realize that it was Baya, and another second for her to be close enough for him to be able to smell her. He kept as still as he could, and practiced will power to keep a grin from appearing on his face.
He felt the warmth of her body settle next to him, and made it a point to breathe evenly to make her think he was asleep. He waited as long as he could without touching her, before he suddenly poked each of her sides with his fingers and grumbling a "boo!"

Baya had been moving as quietly as possible as she approached Reid, not wanting to wake him up if he was getting some much needed rest. She placed her arms outstretched behind her to support her weight as she leaned back and closed her own eyes for a moment, just enjoying the feel of the sun. She jumped as she felt the pokes and heard the boo from Reid. "Hey!" She exclaimed in shock and fake disbelief.
"Faker." Baya smirked, playfully smacking Reid in the chest. She was surprised at just how hard his muscles felt, even though she had always known he had been in good shape. She could also feel the warmth of his body through the fabric of his shirt. She wished she would have pushed him instead so that she could have let her hand linger there a little longer, but tried to get that thought out of her mind for now.
"So I see your sense of humor is still doing well today" She told him. "How's the rest of you?" She asked trying to keep the question light, not wanting him to think she was just feeling sorry for him, despite her worry.

Reid mirrored Baya's smirk with one of his own. The deep sleep that had threatened him was quickly gone as if it had never been there. It felt like a miracle every time she was nearby. He was worried that he would upset her and she would take that away from him, but it would be selfish to keep these things from here. She had a right to know because it meant that he could protect her better, no matter how she reacted to it. His smirk fell when she called him a faker; she really had no idea how true that was.
The meaning behind Baya's question didn't escape him, though she was very good at sounding unaffected. She tried to get him to talk to her about his 'illness' and Reid always seemed to get away without saying much. Though he felt guilty every time, and was nervous to tell her the truth, he was glad that she wouldn't have to feel so bad for him all the time. "I'm great, actually," he answered truthfully. He patted the ground next to him for her to sit down. If things went badly during this conversation, this might be the last time she would be this close. "I'm glad you came," he told her, this time in his own attempt to keep it light and conversational, "I needed to talk to you."

Baya could easily see in Reid's eyes that he was nowhere near the sleep she had thought he had been in a mere moment before. It was typical Reid to try to trick someone, but she knew that this was just in good fun. But when his smirk fell as she called him a faker she wondered if she had been too harsh in what she thought was just a playful reaction. Everytime she just started to think that she was understanding him a little better, Baya would see something that showed her she really had no idea where his head was at.
"Yeah?" She questioned with a smile as he said he was doing great, hoping that he was telling her the truth and not just what he figured she'd want to hear, or what would get her to stop asking about his health. She moved over to sit beside him as he patted the ground. She saw he looked nervous, or uncomfortable, despite telling her he was great. "Of course I came" Baya said knowing that she wouldn't have ditched him. In fact she had been looking forward to seeing him all day. Her expression grew more serious as he said he needed to talk to her. "Okay...what do you want to talk about?" She asked him, trying not to immediately panic as he spoke those words. It never sounded like a good thing when someone needed to talk to you.

Reid gave Baya a little nod when she asked if he really felt that great. He wondered if she thought he was being sincere. He had never really felt it necessary to let people know about his business in High School, not even Baya though they had generally been on good terms, but he ad spent the last couple of weeks to include her in whatever he could without revealing too much. The task had been nearly impossible since he ended up having to fib left and right, but this is why he had asked her to come.
A small smile grew on his face as she told him that she had planned to come. It was adding to his hopes that she cared enough to keep her from being too upset. He had heard different stories from his brothers and how they had revealed themselves to their imprintees. The fact that they were successful gave him courage, though there was always the nagging thought that the Imprinting didn't always mean the same thing for everyone. Reid's feelings were supposed to be in response to Baya's, so he hoped that this was a good sign too.
Straight to the point as always, Reid usually valued this quality in Baya, but now it had him cornered as she expected him to jump right into what he brought her out here for. His mind scrambled for a bit, as he looked out into the ocean and tried to remember the different ways he had considered having this conversation with her. They were all crappy ideas, but he had to start somewhere. He let out a long breath slowly, and kept his eye on the horizon. "It's a long story," he said," but it starts with a few things you already know." He adjusted himself in his seat, sitting up straight and glancing at her with an encouraging smirk. He didn't see how he could keep her comfortable through this, but he would sure as hell try. "Do you remember all those Legends about the Quileute Spirit Warriors?" he asked. It sounded like he was going off a tangent, but hopefully she would humor him and answer. If she remembered, it would make things a bit easier.

Baya wished that she understood Reid better. She wanted to be able to tell just by the look in his eye whenever he was telling her the truth or just telling him something to make her feel better. Sometimes she thought she knew but right now she wasn't sure how he was feeling. He didn't look sick, but he didn't look like the Reid she knew in high school either. Something about him was different, and knowing what she knew about his health problems, she felt guilty that she liked him better this way.
She returned his smile as he smiled after she told him that of course she would have come. She wondered if he doubted that she would. She couldn't see a reason why, especially not when her feelings had grown so much. She liked the idea that her coming may have made him happy, that this was the reason he smiled. But he seemed more nervous as he told her they needed to talk.
She gave him a slightly confused look as he mentioned that it started with things she already knew. Was this about his health? Was he ready to tell her the details of his illness? She thought that had to be the only thing he'd need to talk to her about, but when he mentioned the legends she wondered what else it could be. " Yeah, lucky for me and my parents who named me 'Bayak' I always enjoyed studying the old Quileute legends and history" She told him with a slight laugh.

Inhaling slowly, Reid nodded slowly at Baya. Hopefully the fact that she remembered the Legends would help him. As he got closer and closer to telling her, the words were scrambling all over his brain, making it difficult for him to think clearly. He grinned a little at her, remembering just a few years before when he had been enthusiastic, and probably one of the most knowledgeable in their age group. "I remember the day when I stopped believing that they were real," he told her shaking his head, chuckling at himself. "It took me the longest than anyone else." He wasn't sure this was going to help her, but for some reason, he felt like he needed to share this with her. When he was a kid, he used to be so happy and excited about learning of the tribes he belonged to.
"How old were you when you stopped believing?"

Baya looked at Reid a little confused. Why was he asking her about their tribe's legends? She thought it was cute that he said that it had taken him the longest to stop believing they were real. But Baya wondered what exactly it was about the legends that he was talking about? There were a lot of folklore that went into the stories, some tall tales, but also there was history.
"I'm not sure I understand what you're asking" She told him truthfully. "There's some of it that I still believe. Some of the stories provide good lessons or metaphors for life. But some of it's no more real than the easter bunny" She told him, as she wracked her brain trying to think of what this could possibly have to do with anything. She remembered him mentioning the legend of the spirit warriors specifically. Was he wishing he had their strength to get him through this hard time. "I still believe that the strength of our ancestors is inside of us"

"Of course," he replied immediately. "The things we learn from them never really go away," he added, agreeing. He didn't want to get into a discussion about metaphors and live lesson, and he tried to guide her back in the direction he was trying to go. "But I'm talking about... Ravens," he said, his hands gesturing at her, "bears... wolves." The last animal came from his lips hesitantly, as if she could tell what he was trying to say just from him uttering the word. "You know... the ones about them talking to us, or the ones where we are descendants from them." He smiled slowly again, feeling like the 15 years old again.
He chuckled again when Baya told him that their strength came from their ancestors. This is where he wanted to go; how did he go there without ruining it? He wasn't sure how he was gonna lead her there, but so far it didn't sound like it was too bad. "What would you say if someone told you that they're more than just stories? Or that they're not just stories?"

Baya could tell that there was something specific that Reid was trying to talk to her about. It wasn't just making casual conversation about the folklore on their reservation. But to Baya, it didn't make much sense why he would want to bring it up. "Well...I guess I still think its sort of possible to communicate with animals, they don't our language but can understand it and find ways to communicate back with us" She said, knowing that her dog understood her and the two of them had ways to communicate, but seeing the look on Reid's face she knew she wasn't getting where he wanted her to.
She gave a light chuckle at the second half of it. "Well, I guess I stopped believing that before middle school when I realized that despite my name I couldn't actually fly. No feathers and as hard as I flap my arms I don't go up into the air" She turned her head to the side as Reid asked her what she'd think if she heard they weren't just stories. "What do you mean? You still believe it....like some form of evolution?" She said sure he could only mean they evolved from those creatures into man instead of from apes, but still thinking it all sounded a bit odd.

This was frustrating. Reid just wanted to tell her as directly as possible, but he had heard too many stories of other imprintees freaking out when the news seemed a bit sudden. He could sense that Baya knew that he was trying to tell her something important, and now she wanted him to get to the point to. It was an irresistible feeling, and knew that he needed to make happen.
It was getting a bit frustrating to be so close and still impeded by concepts like 'evolution'. It was things like these that collided with their Legends, and made them seem like children's tales. Of course, it helped them from keeping their secrets from the Pale Faces, but it was making things incredibly difficult for him at the moment. "Um... I know this conversation sounds weird, I swear I'm trying to make sense," he admitted to her. He suddenly got up from his position from the log and sat on it instead. He took her hand without asking and pulled her up next to him. "What I'm trying to tell you is that... at least one of them is true." He looked out into the horizon again, almost asking it for guidance. He looked down again to collect his thoughts before looking at her face again. "It's really... real."

Baya felt bad as she watched the frustration on Reid's face knowing that whatever he was trying to say to her she wasn't quite understanding. She instinctively placed a hand on his arm, and looked into his eyes knowing he wasn't just joking around but was trying to say something serious. "I'm sorry..." She said softly knowing she wasn't getting what he wanted. "Help me understand"
She nodded as he said he knew the conversation sounded weird but he was trying to make sense. "Its okay, take your time...tell me however you can" She told him trying to be patient when she was anxious to hear what he was trying to say. She let him take her hand and pull her up next to him. He was telling her that one of the legends was real, but it didnt make sense with what they were talking about. She didnt see how the legend of the spirit warriors could be real. "What do you mean?" She asked him. "What's real?"

"The legends," Reid answered immediately. Aside from the warm and calming sensation he felt from being close to Baya, he felt the excitement he always carried when he spoke about the Legends with anyone. He smirked a little, before scooting a bit closer to Baya. "Well... I don't know if all of them are real," he told her before she started thinking he was losing it, "but they're true." He smirked at her, like a little kid about to share a secret hiding place. He paused for a bit before folding his hands, looking down at them. His next words were extremely important, but he couldn't think of how to making it sound like it made sense.
"Do you remember the one Legend... the one that says we're descendants of wolves?" This time he looked right at her, hoping to find recognition and something that would tell him that she knew what he was going to say next. "The ones that used to protect La Push from the Cold Ones?" It was important that he mentioned the bloodsuckers as well; it was the whole reason why this was happening.
