{Post-BD}
Ben stretched as he pulled up into the driveway of the house that he and Angela now shared in married bliss. It had been no surprise to anyone when the two of them tied the knot shortly after both graduating from college. He had never been prouder than when he had met her in front of the altar and heard her being declared his wife before man and God. That had all been over a year ago now, though, and since then they had settled into a good routine of work and family life, always finding time for each other.
“Here we go,” he muttered to himself as he swung his legs around to get out of the car – still his old Dodge Neon from school – and swiped his new comic from the passenger seat to bring inside with him. Working in Port Angeles was a bit of a hassle when living in Forks, especially when the white-collar job was hardly anything special to travel for, but it did have its perks, and being two streets down from the comic book store was one of them. He still had dreams of managing to get the capital one day to open his own comic book store somewhere, but his priority was always Angela.
“Hey Ange,” he called into the house as he let himself into the modest little place, knowing that she had day off work that day. He walked through the house into the living room, his brown eyes flitting about the room in search of his beautiful wife. He tossed the comic book on to the coffee table – well, he placed it, careful not to box any of the corners or cause it to crease – and wandered through to the kitchen in search. “Angela?”

The last year of her life, being married and being Mrs. Ben Cheney, had been the happiest year of Angela's life. The two of them were living comfortably in a nice house in Forks. Their location worked well for Angela, having gotten a job at the Forks daily newspaper as a photojournalist. It wasn't the most high profile job, but it was doing what she loved and she was with her husband and near her parents. She wouldnt complain about that. She hoped that Ben wouldnt begin to resent her for not having the job he dreamed of, and having to commute into Port Angeles for that.
Today was one of Angela's days off from work. She was glad that she was scheduled to have the day off. The last week and a half during her lunch breaks she began getting nauseous, and this morning it had started even earlier. She knew that most likely she had gotten a stomach bug of some sort, probably from the elementary school kids that she had been with last week covering an assembly program they were having to honor War Veterans. Kids were always sick and it was very likely that she had just caught something from them.
But even believing that it was just a stomach flu, part of her couldnt help but wonder if it wasn't something more. Maybe she had gotten sick because of kids, or maybe one kid, a small one. She looked over at her purse that she had set on the sink of the bathroom as she sat on the floor. She had picked up a pregnancy test earlier, just in case. She was a little late, but not late enough to have made her suspicious before the daily upset stomach that seemed to pass by the evening. It was usually gone by the time that Ben got home, but today she could hear her husband's car pulling into the driveway as she sat leaning against the toilet, sweat on her forehead, feeling another wave of nausea go over her.
She heard him come in and call out to her. His voice always made her smile, even though she felt sick right now and knew she probably would look disgusting when he found her. She had hoped to have herself cleaned up before he came home but knew it was too late now. "In here Ben" She said, having left the door propped open.

The epic search for Angela had now taken Ben into the kitchen and it was there that he became distracted from his mission. He was always ravenous when he got home from work and the delights of the food cupboards and the fridge held more temptation to graze than he could resist. He had just popped two whole cherry tomatoes in his mouth (to make up for the cookies he had wolfed down just prior to that) when he heard his wife’s call.
“Cmm-mng,” he hummed and half choked as he bit down on the tomatoes and experienced the sudden flood of seeds and gooey stuff. He chomped ruefully as he followed the direction of the call, thinking that cherry tomatoes would be a good way to defeat any team based superhero team; it was all about communication (and awesome superpowers). Unless at least two of the team were psychic, but then he supposed that would be the supervillain’s downfall.
A minute or so later, as he was actively wondering if there could be some kind of mental cherry tomato, Ben approached the bathroom. His thoughts immediately turned to his wife as he saw her through the propped open door. It hadn’t entered his mind that she might be sick and he immediately felt guilty for getting distracted in the kitchen. Every time one of them was sick, Ben was always reminded of the time in school that he got the stomach flu. She had taken care of him so well, even though they hadn’t been dating for that long and he was gross (never mind contagious).
“Ang, are you alright?” he asked, his tone and expression both showing concern for her. He crouched down by her side, marvelling at how even when sick she still looked like the most beautiful woman in the world as far as he was concerned. He extended a hand and brushed it gently dawn on her as he waited to find out what was wrong.

Hearing Ben move further into the house walking through it, Angela tried to brush her hair back out of her face and hoped that she didn't look too green. She wished she had time to brush her teeth or at least get some mouth wash before he got home. But they had made a vow in front of god that he'd love her in sickness and in health, so now she knew he'd have to look past her sickly exterior and remember that promise.
She could hear him call out to her, in a familiar muffled tone that told her he had found a snack on his way in. She started to feel a little bit guilty that she hadn't started anything for dinner while she had been home today. It hadn't even been on her mind. She knew he wouldnt care, especially knowing she wasn't feeling well, but she still felt that as his wife, and being the one of them who was home today while he worked, she should have started something for dinner.
As he reached the doorway she tried to give him a reassuring smile so he wouldnt worry too much. She nodded as he crouched beside her asking if she was okay. "Yeah, just a stomach bug I think, I havent been able to keep much down" She told him.

As Ben caught sight of his wife in the bathroom, his eyebrows shot up, his entire expression instantly reshaping itself into one of husbandly concern. He still thought she looked beautiful despite the slightly green pallor of sickness, he didn’t need the vows that he took to keep him at her side – he wanted to be there, forever. His petty thoughts of superheroes were forgotten and he felt vaguely guilty for leaving her alone that day. He wished that he have been home to take care of her, but he would make up for it now.
“Oh, Ang, I’m so sorry,” he dropped down to his knees, mindless of the fact that he was still in his work trousers and shirt. He extended a hand and brushed her thick hair behind her shoulders. “You should have called me – I would have come home, you know.” He smiled at her a little, brown eyes flicking all over his wife’s face as if to try to detect by sight what was going in on the inside.
“Do you want me to get you something? Some water? A hot water bottle? Camomile tea? Umm…” he gave her a little lost look as he failed to remember anything else that was good for a stomach upset. However, after another moment or two of looking into his wife’s eyes, he raised his hand once more and stroked his fingers down her pale cheek. “You’re still the most beautiful woman on the planet,” he told her in a whisper, showing a hint of his goofily crooked smile.

Angela could see the worried look on her husbands face as he saw her sitting there and knew she had failed in any attempts to look more presentable when he got in. Ben got down on his knees even in his work clothes on and brushed her hair back with his hand. It was such a loving gesture and she gave him a light appreciative smile.
"I know you would have come, I just didn't want to worry you. It wasn't that bad" Angela told him, loving how willing he would have been to come home just to be with her. "Its been a couple days, just usually doesnt last this long" She said, feeling a little guilty admitting to him that today wasn't the first day that she had felt sick and that she hadn't told him about it before.
"Umm, tea might be good" She said as he offered to get her something, hoping that the tea would help settle her stomach. Angela felt the touch of his hand against her cheek and smiled as she looked up at him listening to heim say she was still the most beautiful woman on the planet. "I look awful" She told him. "But thank you, I'm lucky to have a husband who's so good to me"

(OOC: There we go - finally got round to it. Hope it was worth the wait! ) Ben kept his brown eyes upon his wife as she tried to reassure him that it wasn’t that bad. He supposed that it would be a bit far if she called him for any sickness that she might feel and he didn’t want to turn into some overprotective control freak, but he couldn’t stop his concern going into overdrive when it came to ensuring the wellbeing of his wife. And still, his worry was re-ignited as she told him that she had been feeling this way for a couple of days now, far longer than a kid’s stomach bug would normally last.
“Alright,” he said slowly, attempting a comforting smile. She was the one that was sick, after all, and he would do anything he could to make her feel better now that he knew that she wasn’t feeling herself. He held up a hand, like a good-natured teacher, though he wouldn’t presume to try to teach Angela anything. “But next time you’re feeling bad just tell me, maybe you can wait until I get home from work – if it’s not bad – but tell me anyway.”
He took a breath and smiled at the compliment he was given, jumping up as she agreed that tea might help. “I’ll just be a minute… or maybe two… depends how long the kettle takes to boil.” He bent to kiss the top of her head again before racing down the stairs and towards the kitchen.
The kettle, as it happened, only took two minutes to boil with just enough water for one cup in it and he made his way back up the stairs laden with the mug, a blanket over his arm and a pillow clutched precariously beneath the blanket. It was only be some miracle that he managed to not scald himself with the tea, but nevertheless, he made it, bobbing down next to his wife once more, still full of loving concern.
“Here you go,” he said, gently, passing the mug along to her whilst offering the blanket and pillow too. “It’s cold in here, so I thought you might find these useful…” He trailed off, giving her a puppy-dog look as he didn’t consider himself the best at looking after her, he was just a boy after all. He pit his lip for a second. “Hey, Ang… aren’t you supposed to go to the doctor’s when stuff like this last for more than three days?”

Angela nodded as her husband told her next time she felt bad to tell him, after work if she wanted, but just as long as she did. She felt guilty for having kept it from him, not liking being dishonest in any way with Ben. She wondered why she had been so hesitant to bring it up. Yes she didnt want to worry him, but she knew it was more. The test in her purse was one of those reasons. She was sure it was a longshot, but maybe she didnt want to tell him while she didn't know. She didnt even know if he was ready to be a father yet. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, you're right, I should have" She said with a small apologetic smile.
Angela's smile grew as she saw how excited he was to be useful in helping her feel better by getting her some tea. She smiled as he kissed her head, feeling pampered and loved by Ben. When he returned she couldnt help herseful but laugh lightly as he brought in the tea with a blanket and pillow his arms loaded down for her comfort. "You didnt have to do all this...but thank you" She said taking the cup from him.
Angela took a sip from the tea, already thinking it was helping her feel better as she accepted the blanket and pillow as well. "Its very thoughtful thank you" She said "And the tea is good" She said as she wrapped the blanket around her. As she looked over at him he looked so young, even taking care of her in a nurturing way. Maybe they werent ready for this. She wondered if she should tell him her unlikely thoughts about what might be causing this or if that would just worry him without reason. But she already felt guilty about hiding the sickness from him, maybe he should know?
"Yeah...I probably should have..I thought I'd try some stuff at home first" She told him. "Ben? What if I didnt catch something from the kids..." She started.

Ben watched Angela’s expression shift as he kindly admonished her for not telling him about her sickness. He knew that he was just being overprotective and trusted her to tell him if anything was really wrong, but even so he felt guilty when she apologised. He rubbed her back a little more, giving her a kindly smile. “It’s alright.”
He laughed along with his wife as he gave her all the extra bits and pieces that he thought could make her feel well again. He had been told on more than one occasion that he doted on her, but he enjoyed spoiling her when he could (not that fetching a blanket for a sick woman was so much spoiling her), and he was delighted that she felt well enough to laugh at his nursing efforts. “Anything for my lady,” he said with a short laugh, grinning at her with his dorky crooked grin.
He watched as she took a sip of the tea, smiling as she commented that the tea was good – at least she was well enough to stomach drinking it. He looked at her as she did him, an ill-defined question forming in his mind. There was something in her expression that he couldn’t quite place, having always had an open and honest relationship, without ever having felt the need to hide anything from his wife in the years of their relationship.
Sure enough, a few moments later Angela began to tell him... something. He looked at her with an unsure expression, not being used to having veiled conversations about the possibility of childbirth. He blinked at her, not getting the connection at all, though his worry flared up if she thought it was something more serious than a simple kids’ stomach bug. “Then we should get you an appointment at the doctor now… what else could it be? Food poisoning? Something like that?”

Even though Angela knew Ben had been right to encourage her to talk to him next time about it (as she would want to know if her husband were ill or unwell in any way), he still was reassuring her rubbing her back as she apologized to him.
She loved the way that he doted on her, and she tried to do the same to him, at least when she wasn't feeling so sick to her stomach. "My knight in shining armor" She smiled at him, still feeling those same flutters of the schoolgirl crush she had on him back in high school as she watched him give that goofy grin.
The tea did seem to go down well and she thought it should help settle her stomach. It was still a bit hot so she drank it slowly but also used it as a way to stall bringing up one of her theories. She didnt want to scare him or disappoint him, depending on his reaction, by telling him when she didnt even know if it was true.
As she started to try to feel out his reaction to the issue, to get him thinking of other possibilities she saw the confusion on his face as she struggled to find the right way to say it. She shook her head. "I think I've been sick too long for it to be food poisoning...that's usually just a couple days I think.." She said not wanting to worry him further. "I dont know if I need a doctor...I'm probably just reading too much into it...but I thought I might be...I thought I should take a test..." She said, her hormones filling her with fear of his reaction unable to even say the word pregnant or baby, wishing they'd discussed timing of children more fully.

Ben laughed gently as his wife called him her knight in shining armour, though he had to admit to himself that he didn't feel so much like one. He knew it was unlikely that there was something seriously the matter with her, but he couldn't stop his mind from wandering anxiously in that direction. He honestly didn't know what he would do if anything happened to Angela, they'd been co-dependent for so long now.
"Somehow I don't think this particular situation is what they had in mind when they thought up that phrase," he said, his tone amused, wondering if there was anything technically less knightly than nursemaiding. Not that he minded in any way taking care of his wife like this; he'd prefer it if she wasn't sick, but at the same time he preferred to be there and able to help when needed if she was going to be ill.
He watched her quietly sipping at the hot tea that he had brought her, wondering if his efforts had done anything to make her feel better. He didn't want to keep chattering away, as was sometimes his nature, in case she was suffering from a headache or he made her more uncomfortable with his noise. She did seem to be concentrating on something while she drank anyway.
As Angela told him that she didn't think she could be suffering from food poisoning as she had been sick for too long, a spike of worry lit up his face, wondering if she did actually think that she had been infected with something worse. However, before he could voice his concerns she carried on with her theory. A test? He frowned a little, not sure what she could mean by that - did she think she needed blood tests?
"I thought you didn't think it was that bad?" he asked her tenderly, not realising what she was trying to get at at all. Being a man, he didn't really equate being pregnant and falling ill - one was awful and the other would be the best day of his life - they just didn't mesh in his head.

The more that the time passed and Ben wasn't picking up on her subtle hints of her suspicion the more nervous Angela got. Perhaps the reason that the pregnancy idea hadn't crossed his mind was because he wasn't ready for that for several years now. They were still both young, maybe he wouldnt want the baby if it was true. But if he did want it, what if she was just overanalyzing everything and didnt actually have anything more than a stomach virus?
The more she allowed her nerves to get to her the more nauseous she felt. She wondered if she should even be trying to tell him now or if she should wait until she had all the facts before telling him anything. But Angela never found it easy to keep anything from him and wanted him to experience this with her, if it was the real thing.
She saw the worry increasing on her face as she saw suggested needing a test. She had to be more clear telling him, despite her nerves, she couldnt let him think something was serious. "I dont think its bad...I feel mostly okay" She looked up at her husband nervously, biting her lip lightly. "I guess I just thought...just to see, maybe I should take a pregnancy test?" She said lightly trying to gauge his reaction. "It might not be that at all, but maybe instead of a flu or food poisoning its morning sickness..."
