{....tag Edward....early Twilight....}
The music filled the house, emanating from the grand piano in the main room. Before that it had filled her mind, she’d heard it’s creation as the pianist had composed it in his head. Each actual note echoed the one already chosen as it played seconds before in her mind. Once the music started the images in the magazine held little interest to her, which was a unusual occurrence for one who’s passion was fashion. Gently, her speed slow, Alice uncrossed her legs where they were curled beneath her and rose with poise. Even as she moved her mind had been set, she would follow the music and speak to the composer. Her steps were light as she moved to the top of the stairs. The music was louder now and more random, the notes in her head and ears playing almost in time, as if the composer was moving more quickly with his composition. Taking the stairs with more speed, but the same grace, Alice reach the bottom and turned to the instrument. ‘Edward.’ She sand his name with a smile, a knowing smile for Alice already knew the thoughts that inspired the music. With a blink she was beside him. “I already know we’ll be best friends. Why wont you let me speak to her?” She pouted reaching out for the lid and closing it with speed over the keys. The music halted.

Playing the piano was one of Edward's favorite pastimes. It was a hobby that he loved, and a talent that he knew he had. His family enjoyed the music for the most part (something he could gather from their thoughts to make sure that he was not annoying them). As much as he enjoyed his piano, right now he was also using it as a distraction. He had begun to improvise more and more of the piece he was currently playing as his mind became infiltrated by the thoughts he had been trying to avoid. That of Bella Swan and his reasons for having temporarily left his family. He still wasn't sure his return had been the smartest idea, but he had made that decision and would try to see it through.
He knew Alice was coming downstairs before he sensed her presence near the room, her thoughts preceding her. He stopped playing as asked why he wouldnt let her speak to Bella though she knew they'd be friends. Her thoughts already contained the picture of her and the Swan girl close. Edward's jaw tightened a bit as he turned to his sister. "You don't know anything for certain, right now you could be friends, tomorrow I could be unable to stop myself and end up killing her" He said knowing that her visions could change and wishing he could gain more comfort and security from them. He didn't trust himself. "I shouldn't even be speaking to her, you know that...we don't need the whole family surrounding her"

With the lid closed Alice laid her elbows on the polished surface and rested her chin there, the face she offered him was on of a perfectly well executed pout. Sure his words had merit, but that didn’t mean for a second that she was going to back down and she knew Edward knew that. Their conversation was voiced, but so much was exchanged with their mind she knew he already knew she’d eventually talk to the girl.
“You don’t give yourself near enough credit, Edward. Your stronger then all that. You know I see you two, happy.” She said with a smile letting the visions she’d had replay in her mind letting him see what she’d already seen. It wasn’t torture that she offered him, nor a mocking view of what she knew he wouldn’t allow himself, she showed him these things as hope. It was the same hope Alice had in them herself.
The whole family was a little of an over statement and Alice pouted further at that. “Its just me, what harm could I possibly do?” She smiled with another practiced smile of innocence and serenity. “We should do a lot of things, but we do.” She pointed out with another smile. “Please Edward, I’ll be good.” She said with an added sing song measure to her voice.

Alice was one person who he often wished he could not hear the thoughts of. Though there were many times when their shared gifts allowed them brilliant unspoken conversations and games of chess, there were other times, like now, when her perky optimism was inescapable and she would not be ignored through her voice or thoughts.
Edward closed his eyes tightly as Alice offered him the vision of him and Bella happy. He wanted it to be true, to believe he could be that strong, but he also knew her scent was stronger than any other to him. He didn't see how this could possibly end well. He shook his head opening his eyes again to look at her. "I wish I could believe that vision would stay Alice" He told her truthfully. "But maybe I'm not stronger."
Alice's pout was cute, but he was glad he was a bit more immune to it than Jasper. "You may look all cute and innocent, but you and I both know you're more dangerous than that" He told her with a light smirk. "Just give it some time, we're lucky she hasn't already run screaming from the way I've behaved around her"

The vision was one that Alice saw regularly in different situations; she saw her brother and his love happy and content. She saw Bella as one of them, in Alice’s mind that was a certainty. Watching Edward closely Alice wanted him to believe her visions as she did, she knew he could be happy if he just trusted himself as much as the others in the family did. He, with the exception of perhaps Carlisle, had more strength over the cravings then them all. “You can, you just need to trust yourself as much as we all do.” She said with an unwavering smiled. “Edward, other than Carlisle, you’re the strongest of us. Stop been so worrisome and maudlin.” She said reaching out to run her hand lazily over the lid of the grand piano.
Her pout broke into a smile when Edward spoke, Jasper would have caved and given her anything she wanted just as there was a chance the rest of the family would have, but not Edward. “I wouldn’t hurt a fly, I wasn’t the one thinking of ways to kill my entire Biology class.” She laughed, “And you didn’t do that, though I have a textile teacher I’d be happy to let you lose on.” She smirked thinking of the terrible woman and her annoying imperfections and dress. “She’s stronger and tougher then you give her credit Edward.” Alice said as if she could know the inner workings of a girls mind whom she wasn’t even permitted to talk to. “And I’m sure you’ve behaved well….just learn to leave your moodier self in the house.” She said with her own gentle smirk knowing only too well Edward’s moods could be terrible.

"Maybe you should all stop trusting me at least while we're in the same town as her" Edward told her, not thinking that he could really be trusted around Bella. The way she smelled was just too good to him. If it had been a few decades earlier, Edward was sure he already would have given in. Even if she didnt meet the standards he had set for himself when experimenting with the traditional diet, he either wouldn't have been able to stop himself or would have allowed himself the slip to keep from making the situation even worse by involving others (as he remembered his first thoughts of slaughtering the entire biology class). Now he was fighting so hard, but still didnt think he was strong enough to be as close as he was letting himself. Even if he wouldn't admit it, Alice's confidence and words of encouragement did help a little. The comparison to Carlisle was one he was sure he didn't deserve. "I'm strong around anyone but her"
Edward gave a slight smirk as Alice smiled at his words. It grew as she described a textile teacher she'd have let him loose on. "I guess its too bad we weren't in your textiles class at the time" He said trying to brush it off, but knowing how close he really had been to killing his biology class. "Maybe you aren't the one at risk of killing her, but we don't need her getting wrapped up in our lives...I shouldn't even be getting near her" He gave a light laugh at her comment about leaving his moodier self at home. "I'm already annoying her with my changes in mood....but Alice, we both know this could go really bad"
