Catherine
Nickname: Catherine Pickering, Cath
Age: approximately 488 years old. Born July 1518, turned August 1542 at age 24.
Appearance
Looks: Catherine is rather petite but not tiny. She can be best described as having a "delicate" form like that of a ballerina. She has dark brown hair with slight reddish tones when the sun hits it, her eyes were blue in her human life but are now bright red as a vampire (almost completely black when hungry), her skin is breathtakingly pale and glitters like a millions diamonds in the sunlight. Her lips look as if she has a perpetual pout that can either give the appearance of some sort of come hither seduction as well as giving the impression that she is either deep in thought or extremely irritated.
Scars, tattoos, other marks: She has a large birthmark on her lower back that is shaped similarily to that of a heart
Portrayed by: Natalie Dormer
Personality and Stats
Basic Personality: Catherine gives off the allusion of being coquettish, usually a trait she flashes her victims before their deaths when she's luring them to her. Usually men, she uses her feminine wiles to draw them near. She is cultured and has learned many languages over the years, enjoys the finer things in this world. Expensive clothes, jewelry, shoes, gadgets, fast cars, et cetera...all entice her during her down time when she's not hunting. And she has a lot of down time. With other female vampires she gets territorial if they cross an area she's temporarily deemed her hunting ground for the time being. She really doesn't get along with women either way, not like she did when she was human. She can be catty, condescending, an all around bitch, manipulative and to the point of sinister. She loves men and sex and chooses to feed mostly off men. She's attempted to create a mate a few times in her vampire life, but has always failed as she'd become too frenzied upon feeding.
Species: Vampire
Abilities: standard vampire abilities
Occupation: None
Car: She takes cars as she pleases
History:
Birthplace: Essex, England
Family: All deceased
Friends: Pierce
History: Catherine Pickering was born into an aristocratic family from Essex, England. She was one of nine children consisting of six boys and three girls; she was the only daughter to survive into adulthood, the other two being consumed by the plague in 1527 along with one of her brothers. Her parents had high hopes that she would marry well and one of the ways to assure that was to get her placed in court as a lady-in-waiting to the Queen Anne, but the position was not accepted until four years later after Anne's execution, when Anne's cousin Catherine Howard became Henry VIII's fifth queen. The position as one of several Ladies-in-Waiting to the young Queen only lasted slightly over a year until November of 1541 when the young queen was accused of adultery, stripped of her title and imprisoned.
Catherine [Pickering] left court thereafter and returned to her family's estate in Essex for the Christmas holiday. By spring her father had finally secured her a respectable betrothal to a Baron from Lancashire. Catherine was not pleased with the match for she found her intended to be rather ugly and boring. During a party celebration on the upcoming nuptials, it was then that Catherine found her salvation in the form of a handsome man hanging back in the shadows of the festivities. To get away from the overwhelming goings-on inside the home, Catherine followed the man outside where she looked for which direction he'd gotten off to.
She faintly remembers him coming up behind her and trailing his cold fingers on her neck before grabbing her forcefully and literally running off with her toward the forrested edge of the estate. Within the wooded seclusion, Catherine's human life came to an end.
Catherine does not remember the days that followed, or the pain that went along with her transition to vampire, but she woke alone in the woods, covered by the forrest's overgrowth. The hunger she suddenly felt was so strong, her throat burned. She took off running, taking in how everything around her seemed sharper, more defined. Colors, smells, sounds. She made her way back to her family's estate and found that despite it being the middle of the night, her family was wide awake and relieved to find she was alright.
Their relief only lasted so long. Her hunger overpowered her and on instinct she didn't think as to what she was doing as she attacked each family member and servant in the household with ethereal and unnatural grace and viciousness. She killed them all and afterward she was quite shocked that she felt little remorse for what she'd done and the lives she'd so easily taken. To keep anyone from finding out what had happened, she set fire to the estate and ran away, watching it burn to the ground from a safe distance before going on her way.
For many years she kept to herself, realizing soon what she was, and only rarely did she come across another of her kind who helped show her what to do as a vampire. She only came out at night and even then she kept her distance from people to maintain the secrecy of what she was.
Years became decades, decades became centuries. Catherine learned a lot, traveling the world and having nothing but time at her disposal. She maintained a passion for fine things. And when it came to hunting, she was meticulous and almost sinister, like it was a game of cat and mouse. She's always enjoyed it more when her prey puts up some semblance of a fight.
Over the centuries, Catherine has acquired several estates in which she'd reside for certain periods of time. She kept servants to clean up after parties she would hold at night, always donning face masks or tinted eyeglasses [early versions of sunglasses]. The servants were always peasants with no ties to the community and they would only usually last until the day after the parties, after they cleaned up, and she would reward them by feeding on them and thus ending their life. She has also found herself in the company of the Volturi once in a while, drawn to their opulence and the power (both literal and political), but never stayed long, preferring to wander the world and see how it changes.
Currently, she is a nomad.
