(Mid Eclipse)
It was a fairly nice day outside so Connor hadn't bothered to drive to the day care center that day for work. It saved him gas money to just walk if he didn't need the van. He was in a fairly good mood today, the kids were well behaved for the most part and one of the little girls had even told him that he was her favorite 'big person', something that both warmed his heart and made him laugh. Despite his good mood he wasn't sure he was feeling all that great, he felt like maybe he was coming down with the flu. He felt warm all the time and couldn't wait to get to the beach that evening for a swim in the cold water. Even his co-worker had noticed that he felt like he was burning up.
He was in no rush getting back to his home, a room he rented off the back of an elderly woman in the tribe's house. But as he walked down the street, he wasn't expecting to see his father, nor did he want to. He had only run into his father a few times since he'd moved out. Usually his father pretended he didnt even exist, but the smell of alcohol emitting from the man reached Connor before he even crossed the street coming up behind him.
"Just keep walking" Connor warned him, seeing the look in his father's eyes that he hadn't seen since before he got big enough to defend himself, turning his back on his father and starting to walk away not wanting to deal with him.
"Don't you tell me what to do you ungraffull little piece of ---" Connor's father didnt finish his sentence as he chucked the empty beer bottle he held at Connor's head.
Though the bottle didn't hurt him (he actually barely even felt it, if he had stopped to realize this). Connor spun around with complete anger in him. He started going towards his father, his hands shaking, ready to pound the guy. Connor saw the fear in his father's eyes and it only fueled him on. At that moment he didn't just want to retaliate for the years of abuse, he wanted to kill the guy. There was only rage in him. The realization of this was the only thing that stopped him from attacking. His whole body was shaking and he knew if he didn't leave at that moment he would have killed him. He didn't want to become his father, he had sworn he wouldn't.
Connor ran off, not wanting to run into anyone else who might get in his way and get hurt while he was so angry, but he also was feeling strange. Maybe sick again. But his emotions weren't going away. He had barely reached the edge of the woods when his whole body felt like it was becoming distorted. Moving uncontrollably in different directions. Pulling at him. It almost felt like an explosion but it didn't hurt.
Connor went to scream out, in a mixture of rage and agony, trying to work through his emotions, but instead of his voice, he heard a howl. He looked down at the body that had changed on him and saw the fur, and the paws and knew he wasn't himself anymore. He started panicking and tried to run from himself. What's happening? No! What'd I do... He thought trying to figure out how he changed his body and turned into a monster, one even worse than his father.
Help me! Someone help! He tried screaming out, wondering if he could head to the hospital and they could fix him, but he was moving faster than ever before and wasn't even sure he knew where he was. His voice still didn't come out in words, only animalistic noises emerged.
(Tag Paul - other wolves can join to, no humans or vampires sorry!)

Paul had heard the thoughts coming from Connor's head, an instant piece of proof that it had finally happened. Paul didn't want to scare him more than he already was so he refrained from answering his thoughts. Instead, he bolted out into the trees. Thankful that he had been a wolf while Connor changed (this way he heard the thoughts and knew right away), he was headed for the cliff but he wasn't exactly sure where his friend would be.
Soon enough he heard the howling. He was positive that it was Connor. As much as he felt pity for his friend's fear and confusion, he also felt a scense of relief wash over him. He would help Connor through it, 110%. He knew that if it were the other way around, Connor would have helped him through the change.
He was approaching the scene as a wolf, but when he had gotten close enough, he needed to get Connor to concentrate, pay attention. Connor had to know that it was Paul inside the massive silver body. He let out a calm howl to get his attention once he was within ten feet. He was cautious, knowing that Connor was upset and might do something he'd regret if they were too close to one another. He then took a deep breath and phased back into his human form, the form Connor had been familiar with. It was his best friend again.

Connor wanted to scream again, but he hated the sound coming from his mouth. It wasn't his voice. It wasn't his pain. It wasn't his lips forming around the sharp curse words he wished would come from his mouth. Instead it was only an animalistic sound. A howl or a growl. The sound of a dying animal that he wished someone would just come and put out of his misery.
Looking down at his feet again was a mistake. Those paws were right there in front of him and he could see the tip of his nose, or rather look down the long snout protruding out from in front of his eyes. He saw the fur and knew he was a monster. He had become the physical manifestation of the monster that his father was. Maybe he always had that same demon inside of him. He had wanted to kill the man afterall. He had snapped and now this had happened.
He looked around, not even sure which way to run anymore. He wanted to go to the hospital and get fixed, but if he couldnt even talk to explain what happened how could he get help? He might just get shot on the spot. But really that may be the best thing at this point, he thought, just wanting this to end. He didnt have that much to live for anyway, no family (that he cared for or cared for him), his closest friend had pretty much abandoned him (or so he thought) and while he loved his job at the daycare center, he knew he was replaceable and was probably only messing up the kids.
Connor's wolf self let out a whine of agony. But before collapsing into a heap determined to just wait to die of whatever was taking over his body, his instincts reacted. Something told him there was someone approaching and he turned, his back arched, teeth showing and haunches raised. He saw the wolf getting close and was sure something was trying to attack him. Logically he would never try to fight a wolf, but instinct told him to take on anything that was threatening him, that nothing could hurt him. But before he could react the wolf changed before him. Connor blinked a few times, seeing the sight of his friend Paul replacing the wolf.
The defensive stance he had been showing relaxed and he lowered his head. Not wanting to hurt his friend, and ashamed his first thought had been to do so. It took another minute for it to sink in that the wolf had actually changed into his friend. The wolf looked very similar to what Connor had seen of himself. Whatever it was had happened to Paul too. He wasn't alone. He looked at Paul, confused and worried, and wishing he could ask him what was going on, but hoping his friend would know and be able to help.

Paul put his hands up in attempt to calm Connor down. He knew it wasn't going to be easy. His own first time had been terrifying and he even had questioned the possibility of returning to human form. He had to try to make Connor feel safer, like he wasn't alone. After letting him have a second to get his head back, he spoke. His words were light and calming. "Wik..it's me. You are perfectly healthy..physically and mentally." he said as he assumed his friend was very confused about what was going on or if he was even awake.
He didn't want Connor in that state of mind. "This is normal, well, for you anyway. You're not alone.. " he continued, followed by a deep breath. He looked Connor's wolf form over. Looking back up at him, he said, "Welcome to Sam Uley's pack of shape-shifters.". He said it casually, not wanting to make Connor think he had entered a life of horror. He wanted to explain everything, but the phasing didn't work that way. He needed Connor to have a clear head.
"Look, you have to trust me. I'm sure you have millions of questions, but, you've got to find your head. First thing's first, phasing back." he said as he would have to anyone who had been experienced in the changing of form. "Calm down, concentrate, and think of nothing but your human form. You'll be back to normal when you gain control." he instructed. It would be a lot easier for Connor to concentrate if he was human, anyway. He seemed to try for an escape from himself everytime he saw any part of his body in front of him.

Connor still remained confused and frightened as he watched his friend in front of him, not sure what had just happened to either guy, and not sure he wasn't just hallucinating. If Connor actually did the drugs that the gossips in town rumored he probably did, then he'd have an explanation at least for what was going on. But Connor didnt even like to drink, not wanting to be anything that resembled his father. Connor gave a gasp as Paul recognized him, even looking like this and started talking to him. He didnt know how he could possibly know it was him. Connor looked down at the body below him again wondering if he looked normal again without realizing it but still saw the fur and paws, making him let out a growl of anger, and himself more than Paul.
Connor tried to focus, to listen to what Paul was saying, knowing he had to know something if he knew it was still him. The words that stuck out were that he wasn't alone, and that he was part of Sam's pack of shapeshifters. It didnt make sense, but neither did what had just happened to him. He wanted to believe he wasnt alone and that he was okay and had someone understand. He tried to talk to his friend, to say Paul's name and ask how this had happened, but his vocal cords now only produced a sound closer to a bark and it made him cringe, hating how aggressive all his actions had seemed towards his friend in this form, even when he was just trying to get help. His eyes pleaded with Paul to forgive him, hoping he wouldn't run afraid or disgusted in him.
Connor tried following Paul's instructions and thinking about his human self, but his anxiety was still too great. He could feel the rage he felt when he was last human and he could feel the stress of what he was now. How could he get calm when he had turned into a freak. "I can't do it Paul!" He tried to scream to his friend but nothing coming out close to English. Frustrated, he normally would have probably punched a tree but being too afraid of knocking it over and onto his friend he clawed at some dirt sending a chunk behind him.

Paul sighed when he saw Connor's frusteration. He couldn't blame him, the whole situation was terrifying. He had become something that up until now, and even still at that moment, he believed did not exist. He knew that his friend was most upset with the sound that he let out every time he tried to speak. Paul had known that nobody else in the pack was phased at that moment. Otherwise, they'd have been there already. And the whole two-way communication thing wasn't working like this. Paul backed up a little, not wanting to be too close to Connor. He knew that Connor would never do anything to harm Paul on purpose, but, Connor had no idea what his new strength was. After he took a few steps back, he looked into Connor's giant, glassy eyes.
"Wik.." he sighed. "You're ok. I swear, it'll be ok. Listen to me... I'm going to phase right here, right now. I'm about to look a lot more like you. You probably won't like that, but you can't run away from me. I will not take another step closer to you. I'll let you come closer when you're comfortable. But..you're going to want to attack me or run away. You've got to fight both instincts. It's me, Connor.". He wanted to do things one step at a time. The first thing he needed to do was get Connor to be able to talk to him. He was hoping that would calm him down.
He then transformed, again, into a giant, silver wolf. He gave Connor a moment to realize that he had changed. He then began to hear Connor's thoughts. Connor, I can hear what you're thinking and I know you can hear me. he thought. Stop freaking yourself out. Stop trying to speak, it's not going to work. Concentrate on controlling your thoughts and we can communicate.

If Connor had been calm enough it would have reassured him to see that his best friend was able to control what he was changing into, and that he had been able to become human again, and still be himself. But right now Connor was too upset and frustrated and scared to think of anything right now but his inability to be anything but this creature he had changed into. He wasn't himself and it was scary.
After digging up the chunk of dirt with his paw, Connor saw Paul back up. He lowered his head immediately, sure that he was probably freaking out his friend now as well. How could he not be scared of him? Maybe Connor would soon not even remember who he was if he couldnt change back soon enough. Connor let out a soft whine of apology before listening to Paul say he was going to look like him again but not to run. Just hearing that made Connor feel tense, he didnt like the idea of himself being...whatever this was...he sure didnt want to put Paul through it if it was risky. Reluctantly Connor nodded his large wolf head.
His eyes widened as he watched the phasing looked like from the outside, wondering if thats what he looked like as well. Really in truth, they were beautiful animals, not quite the horrific monsters Connor had imagined. He jumped however when he heard the voice in his head...yet he wasn't hearing it with his ears, it was just sort of in his mind. He looked around panicked not sure if he was just imagining this and hearing voices now or if Paul really was able to get into his mind. Connor tried to focus on his thoughts. You can really hear what I'm thinking? What's going on? What happened to me? To us...His thoughts and questions raced through his head.

Paul tried to keep his thoughts calm and clear. I can hear you as clear as I would hear your voice as a human. he replied, understanding that the whole telepathy thing was a little hard to get used to. He, again, waited about half a minute to give Connor time to adjust, to take it all in. He then continued. You'll be yourself again, Connor. You haven't been permenantly transformed. It's natural...the change. You'll soon be able to switch back and forth between forms as you desire. Though, it's much easier to get back to human while you're calm and controlling of your emotions. He knew that right now staying calm was not going to be easy for Connor, so he began to explain what had happened.
You have the gene. You have..the gene that's been around for generations in La Push. It..allows you to phase into a much stronger form. In your wolf body...you can.. hear, smell, feel everything to a much larger degree. He was hesitant between words. This was not at all easy for him to explain because he knew how insane he sounded. There is a pack of people like us. We are shape-shifters. I'm sure you know some of the others..uuh.. Sam Uley, Embry Call, Quil Ateara, Jacob Black.. He wanted to let Connor know that people he had probably seen around had joined them. He hoped that would make him feel more comfortable. We change into this form so that we can protect La Push.. from our enemies. He stopped it at that so Connor could think about it and ask what he wanted to from there. He didn't want to get into the existance of vampires until Connor's mind had calmed a little. The poor guy had enough to deal with.

Hearing Paul's voice in his head, without actually hearing it with his ears was just one more thing that freaked Connor out a bit, even thought at the same time it was reassuring as he tried to convince himself that if Paul could do it than he wasn't alone. It also would mean that there was a chance that Paul could help him become normal again. He hoped Paul would be able to get him through this, he needed his best friend now more than ever, despite the distance that had been between them recently. Natural? This doesnt seem natural...people aren't supposed to do this. Connors thoughts responded before having time to even decide what he wanted to say. I dont know how to stay calm when I dont understand what's happening to me... He said with a sigh, knowing Paul was trying to help.
Connor tried to focus on calming himself enough to at least pay attention to what Paul was telling him as he tried explaining about the gene and what he could do. Shapeshifters...I never thought that was real, that it was even possible. He replied, his wolf eyes widening as he listened to all the others who were also a part of this. Wow...so this is why you and Sam have been spending so much time together lately? This was what you were keeping from me? How did you handle this...how am I supposed to be some protector?

Paul could tell that he was still upset. He even still sounded annoyed at the mention of his new relationship with Sam. He had been dying to say his next words for quite some time. I would have told you everything in a heart beat. It wasn't an option.. Sam is Alpha. He can give a command that I physically can not disobey. None of us can tell anyone. Another order we are given often is patrol.. It takes my free time away. Sometimes we're out for days. When I'm not on guard, I'm sleeping. I had no time for friends. I didn't ditch you, nor would I ever. I wasn't given the choice to set my priorities. They were set for me. I'm sorry. He was extremely glad to have gotten that out. Now he felt better and could continue before even waiting for Connor's reaction.
It is natural now.. whether or not you will accept that. You will do what you were born to do. There's no class for this..no guide. Instinct will pull you through most of the time. You'll know exactly what to do once the time comes. I know it's a lot to take in.. okay.. a lot is an understatement.. but you have to try to just.. wrap your head around one detail at a time. There's so much you have to learn. he thought, sounding a bit sad. He felt bad for his friend, sitting there afraid and confused. He wished he could do more, though he was doing best he could to explain.

It worried Connor to hear Paul's explaination of his reasons for not explaining things to him sooner. he wasn't physically able to disobey Sam. Connor wasn't sure he liked that idea, especially if he was now a part of this too. 'If you had told me, I could have been prepared for this...I wouldn't have been so alone all this time...Why are you letting Sam have control? Does this mean he controls me too?' He asked worried.
Instinct Connor repeated. So we're just animals? Am I going to be able to change back like you...Will we eventually be stuck like this forever? Connor asked having so many questions, but trying to not freak out anymore than he already had. He had to focus. But surprisingly all of his senses seemed more aware right now. It was easy to concentrate, yet still know exactly what was around him. The smell of the forest so much stronger, and the sounds making him aware of even the birds miles away.

Paul sighed, letting his head down. I gave Sam no control.. he just has it. He now has yours as well. But.. he's really a good leader.. And Connor, I couldn't have told you. I was dying to..you have no idea. You're not alone anymore, I promise. He took a few steps back and ran out of the clearing, coming back to his friend a few seconds later as a human with worn shorts on. He figured Connor would be more comfortable if he could phase back. Knowing Connor could only ask him questions if he got himself back to normal form, he hoped forcing it upon him would work with his concentration.
You're not stuck like that. Concentrate.. he said, tossing Connor's ripped, yet wearable shorts at him. It's bad now, but everything will become so natural that you won't even notice that you are different. OOC: Sorry about the fact that my posting size is deteriorating xD

Connor still didnt like this idea of being forced to be under Sam's control. He really barely knew the guy and now supposedly he could control his actions and make it physically impossible for him to do things? It wasn't something that sat well with Connor but he was surprised that Paul seemed alright with it. It was the only thing that kept him from protesting too much right now. Not being alone as whatever freak he was now was good, maybe even worth losing some control.
As Connor watched Paul leave again and return in human form, it brought about a mixture of frustration and relief. He was relieved to see again that it was possible to switch between the two, but frustrated that while Paul seemed to have no problem with it, Connor seemed stuck in this form. Help me Connor thought, wondering how well the telepathic connection worked now, but getting the feeling it only was a wolf thing as he couldnt hear Paul's thoughts anymore.
Connor looked down at the ripped shorts in front of him as Paul told him to concentrate. He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths, trying to get calmer and picture himself as a human. He tried to envision it as clearly as possible, standing in front of a mirror looking at his reflection, getting a sense of his height and build, and the way the human form felt differently than how he felt now. After a few more minutes Connor could actually feel the morphing of his body as he finally changed back to human. Opening his eyes Connor looked down in relief before putting on the shorts quickly.
"I can't believe it...I'm normal again!" Connor said shocked he was able to do it.

Paul smiled and nodded as Connor was finally able to do it. He was thrilled to see his friend as a human again, a sign that maybe the two of them could repair their relationship and get back to the way things were before. Although, things would never be exactly the same again. Now they had responsibilities; orders to follow. I knew you could, he answered. He gestured at his damaged shorts. It's, uuh, probably a good habbit to keep wearing your..not so good shorts.. until you learn control. He said the last part with hesitation.
Would Connor ever learn control? Most of the pack did, but, Paul didn't. His temper had only made staying human a more difficult task. He didn't know if Connor would be more like him, or more like the others. He remembered , with frusteration, how many pairs of shorts he had lost his first year as a shifter. He decided to shake the thought from his head and focus on Connor not knowing anything. He looked at him, ready to answer anything he could.

"Yeah, I guess so...." Connor commented as Paul recommended to him that he wear his not so good shorts until he learned control. Control, that seemed almost impossible right now after how hard it was to change back into his human form. He still felt scared, terrified really, and angry, but he was afraid of letting himself feel those emotions and setting off another wolf-burst.
"How do I get control? How do I get this to just stop....I dont want to end up stuck one day and never be able to turn back again" Connor told him, afraid that could happen. Yeah, he lucked out this time and managed to turn human, with Paul's help, but what if no one was around, or no one found him, and they stopped being able to hear his thoughts. "This whole thing...none of its normal...I just don't get it"
