(Twilight)
Mya was only a couple months into the job, and still considered a rookie by everyone at the station. The thing about small towns was they didn't need a large force. Which meant they didnt hire all that frequently. Mya got the feeling she'd still be a rookie to the rest of the guys after she'd been there for 5 or even 10 years. Probably until the next newbie arrived. With rookie status came getting the odd shifts. The nights and weekends most people didn't want (especially those with families, like the Chief). But even a rookie gets a few Friday nights off. This was one of them for Mya.
To enjoy her evening, she wanted to get away from the town for awhile and head out and explore the neighboring city. She missed the hustle and bustle of Miami a bit as there was always something to do, no matter what time of the day or night. She ende up driving her motorcycle to a nightclub, or maybe a lounge would better classify it. It was a little nicer than a bar, and without all the dancing of a club. There were tables, chairs scattered about and a few couches lining the walls. They served food, but nothing more fancy than a burger or chicken wings. And there was a stage up front, small with one mic. She was sure it was to serve local bands or maybe hold open mic nights. She wasnt sure and wasn't really concerned with either, she just thought hearing some live music from local talent might be nice while getting a drink and maybe some fries.
Mya had gone casual for the evening, compared to her normal work uniform, but was still looking nice, a fact that hadn't gone unnoticed by the bartender or guys from the table to her left. She sat down with a beer (the only one she'd have that evening, as she was driving) and began idly flipping through the menu as she heard the sound of the microphone.

Gabe grinned at himself, psyching himself up for the umpteenth performance of Run Away With Me from the Unauthorized Biography of Samantha Brown, having already filled the first half of his set with the more upbeat section of his repertoire. He'd managed to broker a pretty sweet deal with the owner of this lounge club, which apparently wanted to distinguish itself from the boozer down the road that opted for djs and music the louder the better. This meant that Gabe's somewhat eclectic taste when it came to music could really come into its own. He'd been at this club every night for the past four days, with is final run through of the set that night. And the audience loved it - he'd even recognised some familiar faces over the last couple of nights. Yes, hello fan base!
As usual, as he sung, he slipped into the character of the desperate boy who was trying to woo the girl he was in love with to leave her perfect life in favour of one with him. His usual practice for these things was to invent the subject of his song as a wraith in the middle distance and allow the audience whose eyes he happened to catch just imagine that he was looking at them. However, that night the place was pretty full and considering it would be the last time he'd sing it (for a while at least) his blue eyes peered out, catching on one woman he hadn't seen before. And man, was she hot.
So it was set, he serenaded the woman unabashedly whilst the song allowed it, though he didn't allow it to compromise his acting. Consummate professional; that was our Gabe.
"Run away with me..." He cut off the last note to make it into a statement as the song drew to its end, raising his eyebrows, coaxing. Then, as the piano rounded everything off he broke character with a grin, bowing his head just a little as the room applauded. He laughed, turning to his accompanist and clapping him, before scooping up his empty water bottle from the stage side and waving it at the bar tender. Guy needed lubricated to do this junk.(I copied the sooong. Sorry, post sucked, but I couldn't resist )

As the music began Mya found herself paying less attention to the menu, and more to the guy behind the microphone. She looked up at the stage, to be respectful of the performer who had talent and saw him scanning the audience before meeting her eyes. She gave a light smile, sure that he would move on and hoping to give some encouragement to the guy that there were in fact people in here who were paying attention and listening and not just here for the booze, food or on the chance of getting laid that night. But his eyes didnt seem to wander as he continued to sing.
Mya noticed a few things quickly. He could definitely sing. His voice had a very pure tone to it, something that really was enjoyable to listen too, but he also had range and depth, something that showed real talent. He also didnt seem to be afraid to lose himself to the song, appearing (at least in this song) humble , and sensitive and full of emotion. He was also an attractive guy, though she was starting to wonder if his voice hadn't added to that appeal. And lastly, he was continue to sing in what seemed like directly to her and her alone.
Mya wasn't one of the girls to blush and giggle at getting any sort of attention from a boy, so she didn't look away shyly or get flustered as he sang to her. She instead smiled back at him again and continued to listen, enjoying the performance and appreciating his art. It wasn't until the last note of the song, and the last look he had given her before breaking the facade of the song that Mya found herself blushing slightly and looking down to her drink. She had actually lost herself in the music, she thought shaking her head lightly. He's a good performer to get her to forget for even a moment that he wasn't actually singing to her of those desires. But it was a good way to spend a night off.

The rest of the set went outstandingly, leaving Gabe feeling pretty pleased with himself. He had kept it all pretty laid back in the latter half of his set, having locked gazes with the hot brunette a couple of times, though as he drew to a close of the final number, a barmaid came running up to him. He grinned at her, expecting a well done and, hopefully, the offer of a post-performance drink - sometimes they waived the fact that he was only nineteen, and sometimes the boss was out and the rest of the staff had no idea how young he was. However, that was not what she was coming to offer.
He drained the rest of his water as she explained that they'd been told to stay open for an extra half-hour and then scratched at his chin as he thought rapidly of what he could do off the cuff and what the band would actually know. He grabbed at the microphone, smiling out at the audience. "Bear with us a minute. It looks like you're going to be getting a bonus encore - yeah, I know you want one really..." he ended in a laugh, before nodding at the barmaid and wandering over to his battered messenger bag.
Grabbing out some sheet music, he passed it to the guitarist, who nodded immediately, beginning to pluck the first couple of chords idly and then shoving the music over to a couple of the other members of the band - yeah, everyone knew this. Perfect. He'd been wanting to test it out on some folk, though at a gig probably wasn't the best place for something that was still a work in progress. Whatever; he'd nail it. Nodding at the band to make sure everyone was on the same page, he took to the front of the stage again, taking the mic from the stand and remaining silent for a moment or two before beginning.
"I'm writing one great song, before I..." he peered out, looking down and waiting for his next cue. "One song glory, one song before I go, glory. One song to leave behind..." He resisted the urge to grin at himself as he felt the song emerge quite naturally. He'd worked on it well enough, so it seemed. Instead he once again dug down into being Roger - a role he was desperate for one day, even if he didn't have the rockiest voice in the world.
"Time flies, and there's no need to endure anymore! Time dies..." he ended, one hand clutching the mic stand, and the other the mic itself, almost collapsed in on himself. After a few moments of holding the pose, he looked up again, stepping aside and applauding the audience with a half-bow and then turning to the musicians to give them their dues too.
He stretched out his arms, chasing out the kinks, before jumping down from the stage and making a beeline for the bar before it closed up. He grinned as a beer was placed before him, looking up at the barmaid and winking at her cheesily. Score! He took a good long draught, kind of parched from his 'work', turning on his stool and looking out over the lounge bar.

The way that the young man on the stage sang was enough to practically take Mya's breath away. He had such a natural talent to him. His voice didn't sound like it was pushed or forced. The tones he emitted were perfectly on pitch and melodic. She hadn't expected to enjoy the show as much as she had, but Mya really found herself appreciating the talent in front of her. She was surprised such a small club like this would have that kind of talent. She smirked to herself wondering if 10 years from now she'd be saying how she saw this guy before he became famous.
He watched as the young woman who worked at the bar ran up there. The way that he looked at her was definitely flirtatious from where she was sitting. She was surprised at herself for feeling a little bitter towards the woman, feelings of jealousy. She knew how stupid those thoughts were and laughed it off, knowing that just because he looked at her while he was singing did not mean that he had in fact professed any sort of love for her. And she herself didnt even know anything about the guy except that he could sing. Surely not enough to feel jealous over...right?
The song that he had picked for his encore was one that Mya, like most o f the audience she was sure, knew well. It was one of her favorite Broadway songs. She found herself again mesmerized by his singing and the way he put himself into the role. Knowing the background of the musical and the character who was supposed to sing the song, she could see this man feeling those emotions (or at least Mya imagined she could). She could feel the song touch her heart and it took a moment after the song ended before she came out of the world he had brought her into with the song. She applauded for him, knowing he deserved it, before wishing silently that the set had gone on a little longer.
Looking down at her drink she realized the glass was already empty. Getting up she headed over to the bar, knowing she should just order a soda since she'd have to drive back. She hesitated a moment as she realized that the singer was at the bar, not wanting to appear like some crazy stalker fangirl. That was far from who she was, but that didnt mean she couldnt talk to him, right? She knew pretty much every other guy in this bar would be wishing she'd come over to see them.
Mya walked over to the bar and stood beside him, facing the bar while he faced outward, ordering herself a coke. She turned to the side slightly, angling herself towards him. "You really sounded great out there" She complimented him.
