Weather: Chilly Time: About 8pm
Isabelle wandered aimlessly along the shore of First Beach. She listened to the sound of the waves crashing, and hummed a gentle tune as the breeze flowed through her hair. Strands of her chestnut brown waves danced playfully in the cool breeze, and she dug her cool hands into the hoodies pockets. The tips of her dark blue jeans were damp with wet sand, but she didn’t mind.
She pulled out her Ipod and pressed play before putting on her headphones. She sang softly to the tune, she kept the music low, so as to hear the waves in the background. But that wasn’t all she heard. The cracking of a twig drew her attention toward the forest that lined the oceans shore. She couldn’t see anything, but the feeling that she wasn’t alone was apparent. She looked in all directions, and apart from a bonfire left behind from a few kids that left just minutes ago. There was no one, and barely enough light for her to be able to see into the dense moss covered trees in the distance. Against all odds, she wasn't afraid.

[What time period is this? We try to put time tags on all of our threads so canon characters can act accordingly ] It wasn't like Embry to lose things. He was hardly clumsy and not very forgetful. But apparently there was enough on his mind that day that he'd arrived home realizing that he'd dropped his poor attempt at an animal carving. He was getting better, but he still went to Jake and Billy a lot for them to give him tips. Somewhere on the way back home, he'd droped the two inch replica of a bear that wasn't quite finished.
Sighing in resignation, he'd trekked back to the beach to retrace his steps. His started scanning the beach when he heard his sneakers hit the multicolored rocks that covered its length. Crap. This was gonna take corever. The color of the carving itself was smack in the middle of the range of colors of the rocks that made up the shores of First Beach. If he ever found, it would be on sheer luck. It was way too dark now. He was walking towards where he'd been when he notice that someone had replaced him on the beach. From the sound of it, she was humming a tune he didn't recognize, but was still able to hear his approach. He didn't want to scare her, since she was alone, so he flashed her a shy, friendly smile.

(oops, fixed it Isabelle gasped when she recognized the presence of an unfamiliar boy. It really wasn’t a surprise since she really didn’t know many people. She smiled than looked to the sand. Laughing lightly at herself she thought of the deer in headlights expression that had most likely just flashed upon her face. Laughing was also a nervous habit of hers, though she wasn’t sure what she was really nervous about, he didn’t look like a psycho killer. She shrugged, “Sorry,” she said finally looking away from the sand and back at him with a friendly smile of her own. “Thought I was alone.”Isabelle admitted as she pulled off her headphones, and rested them on her collar, almost like a necklace it clung to the spot. Unaware of what to say, or do, “I’m Isabelle,” she blurted out. Once she realized that she had just introduced herself she held out her hand. ‘I’m an Idiot!’ she thought to herself.

[coolies, thanks!]
Despite his friendly smile, the girl still managed to be startled. He couldn't really blame her. The pale light of the moon barely lit the beach and it was easy to get spooked when you think you're alone. Embry had slowed his approach for a second, until she appreared to relax. Yea, he must have caught her completely off guard, and it wouldn't have been too hard since Embry notice that her hearing had been distracted otherwise. He looked at her apologetically, hoping that she saw that he was harmless. She wasn't anyone he'd seen before.
To his surprise, it was she that apologized. He chuckled softly and shook his head. "No, I'm sorry," he told her when they were finally within earshot of each other. He smiled again when she suddenly introduced herself. "Hey, I'm Embry," he replied, taking her hand and shaking it. "I hope I didn't scare you too bad. I know it's dark out here."

Isabelle smiled politely. “Nice to meet you,” she said griping his hand gently. She giggled, “startled me is all,” she began. She thought twice of telling him she knew kung fu. It didn’t seem the greatest starting point for a conversation. Instead she looked at her surroundings. It was dark, good thing her dad wasn’t home or he’d have been flipping his lid about her not being there.
“What are you doing at the beach so late?” she paused, “I mean not that you can’t be at the beach when its dark, just that your alone. But, I’m alone too so,” she paused than laughed. “I’m sorry I’m rambling.” she apologized. She rolled her eyes at herself which she was hoping he didn’t catch. ‘Strike two,’ she thought to herself. She maintained her smile, hoping it would camouflage her fit of awkwardness.

Smiling again, trying to make her feel better and convince her that he was harmless. He instinctively took in their surroundings when she started looking around, though he was sure they were pretty much alone. W
When she asked what he was doing, he suddenly remembered why he was there in the first place. "Oh yea," he fumbled, flushing a bit when he realized he'd forgotten why he'd come all the way back. "I actually was here earlier in the afternoon, but I dropped something so I had to come back for it," he admitted, embarassed. It was one thing to chide himself for being so careless, it was another to have someone else in on it.

“Oh,” Isabelle smiled. She wasn’t sure if he’d want her help looking for something he’d lost. But, besides not wanting to be home at least it would give her a purpose. “I can help you find it,” she offered. Out of instinct she looked to the sand, “What is it?” She looked up at Embry, a twinkle in her emerald green eyes.
She felt more at ease now. He was too nice to question. Besides she knew how to take care of her self. “Do you go to Lapush High?” She had to wonder, after all her father had promised that on her senior year, which was a ways to go, she could attend a real school. Instead of crummy home schooling.

As much as he was reluctant to admit it, he really did need the help. The thing could be anywhere. "Uh.. sure, yea. I mean, I don't know if we'll be able to find it but I have to at least try," he told her. He had just started getting into the detail of it, and it would suck if he'd have to start all over again. "It's a small carving of a bear," he told her, "brown and about this big," he added bringing the thumb and index finger of his right hand at about 2 inches to show her. He was glad that she wasn't so scared that he ran her off, plus now she was helping her find the stupid piece of wood. He responded to the smile he gave her with a grin of his own. "Thanks for helping."
He was starting to wonder if she lived on the reservation or not, he hadn't seen her around. "Yea," he told her, "I'm a sophomore." His head suddenly ducked to hide the flush that would have been hidden by the darkness anyway, when he realized that she was probably older than him. At least she looked it. "Do you go to school in Forks? I haven't seen you around."

Isabelle bit her bottom lip at the sound of what seemed like hesitancy in his voice. She hoped she wasn’t being too forward, or too interested in his private domain. Luckily, that odd feeling didn’t last long. When he mentioned at least trying she nodded in agreement. If it were her she would have forced Quil to come out with her, flash light in hand. Now that she had thought about it, she did owe her only friend in LaPush a visit.
“You carve?” She asked. Talk about something hard to do. Sewing, all in the wrist, singing begins with a melody, but carving objects out of wood. She couldn’t even begin to understand how to begin, or where to end. Did you start with the head or the tail. She tried to hide her enthusiasm.
“Really?” she cocked her head to the side, “I’m a Sophomore too, and believe it or not I live just about half a mile from here.” she smiled and pointed left toward her house. “But, I’ve been home schooled since first grade, and spend my summers in Brasil.” She admitted the last part with a bit of disgust. Not directed at him, but toward the idea of practically being captive.
“So where do we start? More toward the rocks, or the forest?” She smiled to reassure him she didn’t mind helping. She was actually enjoying the company.

Laughing softly, Embry noticed the tone of interest in the girl's voice when she asked him about the carving. "Not very well," he admitted before he got carried away. "I'm still learning and right now the bear I was trying out kind of looks like manatee."
Now it was his turn to be interested. "Really?" he mirrored her, while glancing at the direction she pointed towards. "I haven't met anyone that's homeschooled before. I heard it's pretty cool if you get your work done fast, you get to hang out most of the day or whatever." His only concern was the tone she took when she mentioned her summer home. Brazil? It sounded cool, especially since Embry had never really been anywhere other than La Push and the Makah rez. "Is that where you're from?" he asked tentatively, hoping it wouldn't upset her, and kept his eyes down.
He bent over, squinting his eyes to use the most of the moonlight, walking towards the driftwood people used to hang out. "Actually I was sitting around here for a few hours, I was hoping it didn't get to far, 'cause if it did, then I'm totally screwed." He stood in front of the spot on the log where he'd been, hoping that he wouldn't have to start over.

Isabelle giggled. “That’s alright my mother tried to teach me, but she gave up on that one real quick.” she laughed. She walked alongside him, searching the sand for any remnants of a wooden bear, or in this case, a bearanatee.
“Yeah,” she admitted almost monotone. “Its actually really boring. You do most of it online. There are no school dances to attend, no friends to make, gets old quick. You know I’ve never been to a school game or a dance?” she asked the question but barely gave him time to give an actual answer. She didn’t want to show how upset the fact actually made her. She was embarrassed to say that after spending her whole life in one town she only had one friend to speak of, and she wasn’t permitted to see even him majority of the time. Over protective father wasn’t the word, it was more so controlling.
Isabelle nodded, “Yeah, I was born in Rio.” Issy knelt down by the logs to get a closer look. Trying to find a wooden carving amongst wood and sand was quite the task. She picked up a few shells or pieces of wooden debri before spotting an odd shaped object in the sand only a few feet away. She squinted her eyes. “What’s that?” she asked pointing in its direction.

Embry listened with interest at the home schooling explanation as his eyes scanned the ground for his miniature. He was a bit embarrassed for coming to such a rash expectation, he didn't realize how lonely it could be. "Man..." he said apologetically, "guess it's not as cool as people have said it is. Either that, or they like to be alone and weird," he told her with a little grin. "Well we don't really have many dances here, anyway" he offered, hoping it would compensate a bit. "We all know each other on the rez anyway and if we want to hang out, then we just come here." Hopefully this enticed the girl to come more often, he had a feeling that she wouldn't get in too much trouble if she was just at the beach. For practically everyone on the reservation, being at the beach simply meant a 10 minute walk. "If you stick around the beach long enough, you can easily run into half of everyone in the tribe."
Embry's head perked when she found something. He quickly took her side and peered down. "Nah, just a weird rock," he sighed. "My carving isn't that bad."

Isabelle laughed at the ultimatum he gave home schoolers, though it did sound much more accurate. She smiled at him before looking back down at the logs and sand. She laughed, “ In that case I probably am a little odd considering I come here by myself.” She wasn’t sure if he had extended an invitation, but from the tone in his voice she could only assume he had. For a moment she thought about what he had said regarding running into people by staying long enough. She thought about camping out, It would keep her away from the house, and close to people actually her age. She shook her head lightly as if to shake the thought from her head.
“Oh,” she giggled. “It was worth a try, I’m not too sure what a bearatee looks like,” she joked.

Embry laughed at the girl's new name for his carving. While an embarrassing tribute to his carving skills, it was accurate. "Well bearatees in captivity are not always the same as the ones in the wild," he said mildly, not trying to hide is grin. "They're brown and wide, and are usually fatter in captivity. Don't get too close to their mouths, they might bite." He would have felt silly in general, he was already blushing a bit and thankful that it was so dark, but it was something his friends would laugh at. He had a feeling this girl was as laid back as they were.
"You're not odd," he told her, shrugging. "People come here alone all the time. It's an easy out to just be by yourself. All of us live so close by that we just eventually cross paths anyway." He tried to keep his eyes down, but it was hard not watching the pretty girl as she helped him in the lost task. It took him a moment of silence and diligent searching to get his thoughts together and make sure that his voice wouldn't fail him, but at the last minute he just forced it out before he chickened out completely. "I think we're gonna have a bon fire soon," he told her, trying to sound casual, "You should come."

Isabelle smiled as he began to describe the bearatee, she held in her laughter, but by the time he had gotten to its physical description she could no longer hold it. She laughed aloud, and to her horror snorted lightly. This made her laugh a little harder while cupping her hand over her nose and mouth. She bit her bottom lip, embarrassed that she’d done so in his presence.
She looked to the sand, hoping that either he didn’t hear her, or had some kind of hearing problem in general. She smiled meekly. “Really?” she asked in delight looking up from the sand now. “I promise I won’t snort in front of your friends,” she laughed. This time no strange sound invaded her laughter and she gave a reassuring smile.
