History:Valerie Marie Munson was born August 23, 1992 to Carl and Missy Munson in Forks, Washington. They were one of the bottom upper class families in Ohio. She was raised in a Jewish family. When Valerie was five, her parents put her in multiple activities such as dance, gymnastics, baton, piano, singing lessons and karate. Though Valerie was never fond of any of these things, her parents were so proud of her so decided she would make her parents happy and just go with it. By the age of ten, Val had already won several gymnastics tournaments as well as dance competitions and piano recidals. She had even recieved her black belt in Karate by thirteen. No matter how many things Valerie won though, it never felt good to her. She was never proud of herself, mainly because most of the activities she was in she was doing it for her parents enjoyment, not hers. They expected so much out of Val. They wanted her to be perfect but all she wanted to do was be able to make mistakes without disappointing her parents.
It was May 29 of 2006, it was Valerie's turn to perform at her final gymnastics competition of the year and in the middle of performing a mid air cartwheel, which is a cart wheel without use of the hands, on the board which would give her a definite win when she landed wrong and slipped, costing her the competition and giving her a broken ankle and one cracked rib. The ambulance was called and she rode in the ambulance truck alone because her parents refused because they were so disappointed in her. They told the EMT they would meet them at the hospital. When she arrived her parents let her know how upset they were and how stupid she was to be so careless. Valerie blamed herself for her parents being upset at her.
Valerie lived with that one mistake she made for years on. Her parents never let her forget that. It was her first ever loss. She was too upset after that to return to gymnastics and begged to her parents to let her out but they refused. They made her practice twice as hard and long so nothing like that would ever happen again. And when next years competition came around, she won. Her parents let her know how proud they were of her and how much they loved her. It made her feel good for the moment, but she knew next time she messed up or lost something, it would be a repeat of that night back in 2006.
Valerie never had many boyfriends. Maybe because she was always too busy for one with the tight schedule her parents kept her on. She had a very strict diet of 1,200 calories a day and exercise for two hours every day. Valerie felt like she had no control of her own life. She was sixteen and she still never had a real boyfriend. She had many "friends" but they were all fake and were just her friends because everyone expected them to be since she was in the more popular crowd. She just wanted one real friend who would listen to her when she was upset. Or a boyfriend qwho called her beautiful instead of hot. Many people would look at Valerie with envy because she seemed so perfect, but on the inside, she was broken and alone.
