((Early-Twilight. Open to all.))
Anywhere else in the world, following the same routine day in and day out often drove some people to complete insanity. The residents of Forks seemed to be immune to that. There were only two options to choose from: go to work, or go to school. Extracurricular activities these days seemed to be magnets for disaster. The forecast called for more rain and wind, which was nothing new, but that eliminated any chance of swimming at First Beach or enjoying a bonfire. Odd wildlife had been spotted in the woods that surrounded the small community, but in such a remote location that was bound to happen, and didn't stop Katie from partaking on her daily hikes. Today, however, she wasn't sure if lightning was a good mix to tempt fate with.
The last bell of the day had rung and everyone was filing out of their classrooms eagerly. Eagerly, of course, until they stepped outside. Heavy rain poured down from the darkened sky, the strong gusts of wind blowing it sideways. It was a strong contradiction of the weather that morning - it had looked as if the sun struggled to make an appearance. Not now, though. Now it was hidden behind thick layers of dark grey fluff.
Katie swore quietly to herself, mentally kicking herself in the ass for forgetting to bring a rainjacket. It was going to be a long walk home. And it had looked so promising that morning.
Giving up, she raised her shoulder bag over her head and began walking. People had reached their cars by now and had already started to pull out and head home, the long line of cars backed up in the lot.
An ear-splitting crack was heard and a flash of light blinded her eyes for a few seconds, and Katie swore it shook the ground she stood on. Thunder rumbled overhead.
A long walk home indeed.

Caleb sat idle during his last class. His hand holding his head up, his eyelids fluttering to stay open. A yawn beckoned to unleash, but he persisted it to stay in. His teacher was a drone- a robot from another planet that didn't remember what being a teenager was like. The robot pointed to specific things on the board, and explained what she wanted the students to do for homework. Frankly, it was all Greek to him. His eyes darted from the teacher to the clock. The minute hand slowly reached its way around the dial. It mocked him. It clicked loudly in his ears. Tick.. tick.. it called out. A girl with shiny, golden locks passed a note to her friend as guy with light fawn hair texted to whoever it might be. It seemed as if everyone in this classroom was a pointless controlled toy that moved slowly. It aggravated him. He began to pack his belongings as the clock struck the end of the class. He jumped up from his hard seat and grabbed his bag and fluidly ran out of the door.
His heart jumped at the thought of the end of the day. Even though he had nothing better to do when he got home, the pure thought of school ending sent an electric feel down his spine. That was until he exited the building. He could barely see his hand in front of his face, let alone where he was going. The rain beat against his face as he squinted through the storm. People ran past him and hurried to their cars. He shifted through his pockets in search of his keys. He scanned his surroundings trying to remember where he exactly parked. Until then, he thought he was the last one to leave school. He found a girl with her bag over her head- soaked. He chuckled to himself as he hopped over to her through the storm. He lightly touched her shoulder to get her attention. A warm smile etched on his mouth. His hair lay flat, saturated with water and let a stream of rain river down his forehead.

Katie remembered back in Alberta when her school would have snow days.
Forks should have rain days.
The grass was so wet that her shoes were soaked before she could get five feet away from Building Two. The sloshing sound was drowned out by the thunder and gusting of wind in her ears. It was probably one of the worst storms of the year, and she was vehicleless. She wondered why her crap car had to die on her the day before, but she seemed to answer her question already. It was a crap car.
Her arm was getting sore holding her book bag above her head so she had to continually switch hands. It was in the middle of a switch when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She jumped two feet in the air as if she was hit by one of the bolts of lightning and her book bag tumbled to the grass... in the middle of a puddle. She turned around to face a boy who she didn't recognize. Was he new?
"Umm.. hi." Katie tried, but her voice was drowned out by the storm. "Sorry, hi. Can I help you?" She tried a little louder and was satisfied she could hear her own voice.

Her voice was barely audible through the wind. The sky was a deep, an angry gray. His shirt was soaked through but he did not mind. He moved in front of her, holding up his single key with his hang. It dangled there giving a metal shine. He scanned her face analyzing her words. "My car," he began, peering behind him. He narrowed his eyes trying to search through the pouring rain. Unable to find his black truck, he sighed and looked back to her. "I know, this might seem strange, but I need help finding my car." He realized his hand was still on her. He looked to her shoulder and quickly yanked his hand away from her. "S-Sorry." He blushed.
The wind tossed around her drenched hair like a soaked rag doll. He imagined that, but it didn't seem realistic. Through the gray haze around then, her eyes shone brightly. To him, at least. She was a human, though. He had to restrain himself. He bit at his lip forgetting about the immense homework he had to do when he arrived home. His smile disappeared, unable to see if she was provoked or not. After all, they'd never seen each other in school before. "If you don't mind," He lowered his keys and put them in his pocket. He readjusted his bag and ruffled his moist hair.

Katie practically had to read his lips in order to understand him, and found out she wasn't that great at it. Car? Help.. car.. Car help? She stood there for a few moments while her brain processed the words and she probably gave off the impression that she was less than mentally competent.
You're an idiot, Katie.
OH!
"You need help finding your car?" She spoke her thoughts aloud. It was only then that she realized her bag was still at her feet, half submerged in a murky puddle. She bent down and picked it up, not even bothering to attempt getting rid of the dripping water. There was no point, she was soaked already. Her light hair was drenched and was being thrown wildly around in all directions from the wind and water was constantly getting in her eyes. She picked up her soaked feet and started off towards the parking lot, looking around for a vehicle that she had no clue what it looked like.
She glanced over in his direction. He was definitely new. There weren't that many students at Forks High School and a newbie always stood out from everyone else, like a clown during a funeral. And going from that, it definitely wasn't a good thing to be new. Your first day would make or break you in terms of social status and everyone of the opposite sex would be gawking at you regardless if you were attractive. You were honey surrounded by a swarm of bees.
But this boy was attractive and Katie wondered why there wasn't a trail of girls stalking him. She made a mental note to be more aware of her surroundings instead of operating like a robot each day.
"What's it look like?" She practically yelled, looking over at him again.

He watched her face as she registered his words. Caleb looked at his own shoes; worn down, ratty old things. He could hardly contain himself that they hadn't disintegrate yet in the heavy water. He took his mind off of his shoes and wandered his eyes up to the heavens. He watched as rain pattered his face. The droplets of falling rain almost looked fake while they were coming from the sky. Clouds arranged from different colors. One was a dark pale blue, others almost black. It had nearly been ten minutes and the rain hadn't yet ceased. A crack of lightening lit up the clouds sending a shock down Calebs spine. The girl ran off searching for his car. "Thanks." he whispered in gratitude, not caring that she could obviously not hear him.
"Its.. black, for starters. Nissan? A truck." He screamed through the unforgiving rain.
He shook his head rapidly, almost like a dog. Water droplets came crawling down his cheeks. He raised his hand to his skin and brushed the wetness off, only for the rain to wet it again. He ran to the stranger, his eyes bright. He could hardly smell her, the rain washed out any signs of scent around. He had wanted to go to the beach this weekend, too. Those plans- probably gone. He pointed to the direction where he thought he parked.
"That way." He began to walk effortlessly towards his lost parking space. "..I think." He shouted, as if she was hard of hearing. He looked behind his back to make sure she was following. He felt the water in his shoes 'squish' as his weight pushed down on the soles. His socks were ruined. His jeans? Then too. He wasn't cold, though. He was never cold. He winked towards the human girl. His expression was innocent and child-like.

Katie jumped too when the lightning cracked through the dark sky again, glad it wasn't just her that kept getting startled by it. She followed him and scanned the parking lot for a black Nissan, still finding it hard to see through the heavy rain. She might as well have gone swimming her clothes were so soaked, and she dreaded trying to get out of them later. A hot shower would definitely be necessary to get rid of the chill that was now deep to her bones.
Her blue eyes focused on what looked like a black tailgate five cars ahead and to her right, and as she squinted through the rain she thought she could see Nissan written on the end of it. Tapping his shoulder, she pointed over towards it, raising her voice again so that he could hear her, "Is that it?"
By the time she had finished the word "Is" the rain suddenly slowed to a drizzle, so her voice was much louder than it needed to be. A couple of people who were getting into their cars looked over at her to see what was going on, and she felt a blush creep up her cheeks. She never liked drawing attention to herself and this was just plain embarassing. "Sorry," she mumbled, looking away.

He laughed to himself as people looked at her for speaking too loudly. He waved then off and turned to her. She looked like an ordinary girl he would have seen walking down the street. Although he had never seen her before, she seemed so familiar to him. They both looked ridiculous, he thought to himself. He admired her for a few moments without breathing. He exhaled deeply and searched through his soaked pockets. He found them quickly enough and yanked them out of their resting place. He stood there, looking at her.
"Thank you. We nearly drowned over there."
He noted humbly. He hurried to his truck and unlocked the door. The drizzle softly coated his already moist skin as his grasped the handle and opened his drivers door. He climbed up, and put the keys into the ignition. He paused-
"You have a ride, right?"
He looked to her reading her expression. He didn't want her to walk home in this mess. The nearly empty parking lot of the school was flooded. He slammed the door shut and put his car into reverse, rolling down the automatic window. He popped in a CD in his car radio and smiled hesitantly. He pointed his focus on her and swallowed. He still hadn't caught her name. She looked like an 'Alyssa' or, perhaps a 'Sarah.' A popular name.
"Do you live far?" He questioned curiously.

Katie kept her eyes cast downwards and ignored the stares she got. Her cheeks burned red, especially when she glanced up and saw the boy still looking at her. She cleared her throat and swirled some water with the toe of her shoe. Her jeans were soaking wet and felt ten times as heavy as they usually did, the same with her jacket. She could only imagine what her hair looked like, or if there was mascara streaming down her face. She must've looked like a drowned rat.
He spoke again and she nodded silently in response, watching him go over to his truck. She had turned her back and intended on going about her way when he asked if she had a ride. "No, not today," she said, "My car passed away yesterday." The corner of her lips turned up in a smirk.
But the boy didn't reply and started his engine. At first she thought he was going to continue to pull away, but he pulled up beside her and rolled down the window. How far was her house? A five minute car ride but a thirty minute walk. "Not that far.. just up the street, really.. Its okay, I can walk." Honestly, the thought of walking that far in squishy shoes and soaked clothes wasn't that appealing, but if this is what was going to happen everyday until she could get another car, then she'd have to suck it up and deal with it.
