Yep, believe it or not, it has officially been restored, in a mahoosive way!
I'm a member of livejournal which, for those unfamiliar with it, is an online blogging community, essentially like a blogging Myspace. You can connect with people, add them to your friends list, join communities, all sorts. So anyway, I'm a member of a community on there, called livejournal_uk. It's a community for, you guessed it, anyone from the UK, going to the UK, ex-pats of the UK, basically anyone with a connection to the UK. There are no real rules there, you just post what you like.
Anywho, just before Christmas, some lovely person, can't remember who, made a post on the community suggesting that everyone post their Amazon wishlists. The general idea was that people who could afford it, would go on there, pick someone, pick something from their wishlist, and order it for that person, as a surprise Christmas present. Nobody knew who would get anything and who wouldn't, and noone knew who would buy anything and who wouldn't. Basically, it was like a Secret Santa, but on a massive scale and with no idea who was taking part.
So, just for fun, I posted my wishlist, as did loads of other people. I figured I wouldn't get anything, and really only posted it because, as I said when I posted the link, I was mostly just looking for music ideas, since my music tastes have been changing a lot lately and I had no idea what groups I might like. I had put a few cds on my wishlist just to give an idea of what I've been listening to online, figuring it'd give people an idea of the kind of suggestions I was looking for.
Fast forward about 2 weeks, and there'd been no reply, so I guessed everybody had been too busy with their Christmas festivities to bother about music suggestions, so I just forgot about it. No biggie, I could just look stuff up on last.fm or some other site like that.
Then this morning came, about half an hour ago to be precise. As some of you know, I've been feeling a bit crap with ear infections and other personal stuff the last week or so, plus I've got an essay to hand in at university in a week, so I'm on edge non-stop. Today looked to be the same, after a blizzard last night. Then the post arrived. I went to get it as always, sorted it out, a few birthday cards for mum (her birthday's next week), a couple bills...and a package from Amazon. Weird, I hadn't ordered anything, as far as I knew. So I opened it up, with a little suspicion, thinking I had been sent something by mistake and I was going to have to make a complaint to Amazon for sending me stuff I didn't order. Lo and behold, there was one of the Paramore cds from my wishlist! Some lovely person, who's still anonymous as there was no name with the package or any message to say they'd sent it, has actually bought me one of the cds off my wishlist.
So yep, my faith in humanity has been restored. How can it not be when someone can be so kind-hearted that they'd buy something for a complete stranger, just because 'tis the season'?
Anyway, I just wanted to post this here because I know a lot of us have been going through some rough times lately, and I thought it might be a nice time to remind ourselves that, as Amber would say, even the darkest cloud has a silver lining, and without the cloud, we'd never appreciate the light.
Have a great day all!
