[Post Breaking Dawn - 4 years. Claire age 7]
Sprawled out on the couch, Claire's 4 remaining crayons were working to their very limit as she switched back and forth, trying to bring the cartoon bear to life. Luckily, brown was one of the four that had survived, and it was already about halfway gone. Red, blue and orange still had some life in them, but were doomed to consumption as they were the last of the 24 pack that Claire had started losing little by little. Making the nose red, Claire decided that the bear wasn't quite like Quil, but it was close enough.
She smiled as Quil danced in her thoughts. Her best friend, who was also a wolf, was her favorite person in the world. She loved that they had this very important secret between them and that he thought that she was allowed to know it. He only was a wolf around her sometimes, but he said it was too dangerous to do it too much. But she knew that if she asked enough, she could get him to do it again. A bit of mischief emerged in her smile, and she decided that the inaccurate cartoon-Quil could use some orange toenail polish.

The small home was filled with the comfortingly sweet scent of freshly baked blueberry muffins. Oven mitt on hand Emily pulled the tray out of the oven, and placed it above the stove. She popped them out of the silicone tray and placed them on a rather large dish. Quil and Sam were expected to walk in any minute. There were some important things to discuss, and she thought it may be easier for Quil with herself and Sam at his side ready for the questions Claire was bound to ask.
Emily brought out the platter of muffins, and smiled at Claire as she set it down. The little girl was kept from the truth when it came to her scars, and it would stay that way. There was no need for her to fear Quil, and telling the truth of the matter may have caused that effect. Her smile faded only slightly as she looked down at the brown bear Claire was coloring. Emily hoped she wouldn’t come to the realization of her secret. “Mind if I join?” she asked the little girl as she took a seat by her side.
Claire was her own bundle of joy, she considered her to be her own daughter at times. “What’s his name?” she asked as she reached for a muffin.

Claire looked up and saw her Aunt Emily walk in, followed by the blissful aroma of whatever it was that she was making today. Every time Claire was at Emily's house, there was always something good to eat. By now, she had already learned that she had to get her share before her any of her uncles or Quil got there. They would completely devour every bit of Emily's cooking and forget all about her.
She looked into her Aunt's scarred face and nodded. She handed her the blue crayon, pointing at the ball. "I think that should be blue, she told her. She then turned back to her manicure. She had always remembered her aunt looking like that, and had never questioned it before. It was simply a part of her. She paused for a second, considering Emily's question before deciding what she would name it. "Luther," she answered simply as if it were the most logical one to come to mind.

Usually Quil was purely ecstatic anytime he knew he was going to see Claire. While he was still happy to see her, as he always would be, he was a little worried about how today would go. He knew that Sam thought it was time for Claire to learn more about what was going on, and Quil knew that if he didn't tell her more soon, her questions would just grow, and he'd have to answer them on his own. Having Sam and Emily by his side would help.
He walked up to the front door at a slower pace than normal, wondering how much information they'd end up telling Claire today. She already knew he could change into a wolf and had seen him do so. But there was always more to tell.He slowly walked through the front door, smelling the freshly baked muffins.

Sam saw Quil enter his house a little ahead of him. He knew what today was and he knew what that meant for the younger pack member. Telling Claire wasn’t going to be easy, but Sam thought it was best she started learning at a young age rather then have it all dumped on her later in life. He sped up and entered the door a moment behind Quil.
“Quil.” He said. “What exactly are you planning on saying to her?” As Sam stood just inside the door and waited to hear Quil’s ideas, his owning already formed in his head, he caught the scent of the muffins. He never realized just how hungry he was till he smelt Emily’s amazing baking. He was glad he arrived before any of the other pack members did and stole the best ones.

“Right.” Emily smiled as she took the blue crayon from Claire. She began coloring lightly on the ball that was free of any pigment. “Luther huh? Good name, I like it,” she said her voice gentle as always. Once she was done filling in the blue ball with its blue tint of crayon she set the crayon on the table and got up from her chair. “What do you want to drink Claire?” she asked as she walked into the kitchen to wash her hands.
She pulled out a small plate from the cupboard and walked back over to the table. “One blueberry muffin,” she said as she placed the pastry on the plate beside Claire’s art project. Emily turned her attention to the door and smiled, a half smile on her scarred face. “Look who it is,” Emily whispered into Claire’s ear.

Claire continued on the orange nails, but keeping an eye on Emily's job with the blue ball. She was really good, she must have colored a lot to make it look that pretty. She smiled when she approved of her name choice and looked up in thought when she asked her what she'd like to drink. She considered it for a split second before she said, "Milk?" Her choice was appropriate, because the next time Emily walked out of the kitchen, she brought muffins with her. Claire suddenly sat up, her eyes on the tray. Looking at the muffin Emily had set aside for her, she looked up to her again and smiled. "Thank you." The whisper into Claire's ear had been unnecessary, she had heard the approach of someone else, and had somehow instantly known that it was her Quil.
While Claire was a happy kid who laughed and smiled a lot, the bright and ecstatic smile she had on now only ever appeared for Quil. "Hi!"

Before Quil was fully inside the house Sam was in front of him, ready to talk before they saw the girls. He wished he had a better answer for his pack leader, but the truth was that he didn't really know what he'd be telling Claire today. He just knew that if she had a question about something, he'd answer it honestly. He didnt think he could keep anything from Claire.
"Honestly Sam...I don't know. I don't have anything planned specifically....what do you think I should say?" He asked, hoping Sam would have some ideas.
Quil smiled as he heard the voice belonging to his love Claire. "Hi Claire!"

Claire's eyes shined when Quil finally took notice and said her name. He was like her best friend and they did everything together. She took a quick bite of her muffin before picking up her coloring project and turned up to show Quil. "'Ook!" she mumbled through the big clump of muffin in her mouth. She realized it was difficult to say anything else, which was probably why they always told her not to talk with food in her mouth, and quickly chew the pastry before swallowing with a big gulp. "It's a wolf!" she said once her speech was improved. "Just like you!"

Emily stood back and smiled at her niece. Oddly enough though Quil’s imprinting was looked down upon by many, in her eyes it was a blessing. She knew Quil, and cared a lot for him, just as she did for the rest of the pack. They were her family, and she adored every last one of them, even Paul. He scared her but thanks to Rachel being around she didn’t shake so much when he was with her. Best of all, she knew Quil would never in a million years hurt Claire. This soothed her mind as Claire was already showing signs of her future beauty.
She laughed when Claire spoke with her mouth full and shook her head. “Claire, chew first that’s very un-lady like.” Emily said raising the eyebrow on her good side. “Hey Quil, Hi Honey,” she called out to the two men by the door. “I made muffins, milk okay?” she asked as she disappeared into the kitchen.

"Milks fine, honey." Sam said over his shoulder without giving Quil chance to answer. His eyes sat on Claire for a moment; sweet, innocent Claire. Turning back to Quil he lowered his voice so as not to be heard by the child. "She needs to know now so she can grown up with it and not be shocked later." He told the boy, "The truth, but you don't have to tell her it all now. And remember; Emily and I are here for the both of you." the was reluctance in his voice, but he had seen both Claire and Quil light up on the sight of the other, he may not like the imprinting but he knew he couldn't change it or stop it.
He turned and headed further into the room stopping by Claire and crouching to talk to her. "So you leave an muffins for us?" He laughed tussling her hair a little " And what is that on the wolf's nails?" He asked with a smile.

Smiling at her uncle, Claire took advantage of his proximity and leaned over to hug him, planting a small kiss on his cheek. She looked at the orange she had been working on that Sam had pointed out and silently decided that she'd done a good jop. She replied with a simple, "Nail polish," as if it were the most obvious answer. "Do you like it?" She saw that she missed a spot and touched her orange crayon once more to fill up the blank before showing it to Quil again for approval.
With her other hand she had picked up the muffin she'd been working on in small pieces. She took another bite before breaking off a small chunk and offering it to her uncle. "It tastes really good," she told her uncle. "You have to eat some before everyone else comes," she added wisely, set on feeding her uncle before he was left without any sweets for himself.

The small hands that reached up around his neck in a hug and the gently kiss on his cheek made Sam smile. Until little Claire came along he believed only Emily could make him almost blush, but this little lady brought out a different kind of love in him. He glanced at Quil then back to Claire. Sam could see that these two certainly brought out a light in each other.
Sam laughed at the Claire’s explanation for the orange nails; such innocence. He would hate for this coming conversation to take that away from her. He looked at her and her muffin as she spoke again. Leaning in he gently stole the offered bit and smiled at her. “Yep we got to eat up before any of that hungry lot arrives.” He said while chewing.
Pushing on his knees he stood and nodded a faint smile at Quil as he headed into the kitchen to see Emily. “Those smell almost as good as you do.” He said on entering and getting the full smell of the fresh muffins. He smiled at her and crossed the kitchen to stand by her.

Emily smiled as she listened to Sam and Claire’s short conversation. She wouldn’t tell a soul, but she kind of wished that they had a child of their own. After all he was great with kids, and Claire seemed to enjoy staying with them. She wiped away the thought at the sound of his smooth voice. It calmed her nerves as it often calmed her mood. She was really starting to wonder what direction the ‘talk’ would take the four of them. Especially little Claire, she was more intelligent than people gave her credit for.
She turned to face him as he stood by her. Emily placed her hands behind her on the counter, “I think she’ll be okay with it.” With a gentle smile she turned back to the two plates she had set for Sam and Quil. She passed him one, with a glass of milk and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Emily collected the second dish and cup for Quil, and walked out of the room and back into the dining room. “Here you are,” she said as she set the dish on table and took a seat on one side of Claire. Leaving Sam the spot between her and Quil.

Rayen looked at the car through the dusty windshield of her beat up car. She had watched Quil and then Sam enter the house. She knew what was coming and she didn’t like it. This whole imprinting thing didn’t sit well with her, not at all. Claire was her baby, her world; she was all that Rayen had to call her own. Logic told her Quil wasn’t taking her baby yet she couldn’t make herself be ok with what was happening. He was almost her age and suddenly had a connection to her daughter, she wanted a man in Claire’s life she just always hoped that would be her own father not some random pack member.
Taking a deep breath she heaved open the forever stuck door of the car and got out, closing it as careful as possible. Her feet seemed to drag as she walked up to the door; she knew what the visit was going to consist of. She knew was what going to be said; what she didn’t know was how Claire would react. If any of this scared or hurt her she would be out of there like a shot. Off the reservation and would keep driving until the two of them were far enough away from all the pain that surrounded then both. She slipped the keys in to her front pocket, close enough to be in hands reach.
Rayen didn’t knock as she entered the house. The smell of her sisters baking wafted to her as did the angelic sound of her daughter’s voice. Emily had the domestic genes of the family that was for sure, Rayen could just about manage to burn Mac and Cheese. “Hello” She called out. “It’s me.” She followed Claire’s voice like a moth to a flame, her eyes and face lighting up when she finally saw her. “Hey baby.” She smiled moving towards Claire while casting a simple look at Quil.
