Taking the steps at less-than-human speed, Rosalie struggled to swallow the short, but loaded conversation she had just had with Bella. Now that she was alone, she allowed the prior feelings of grief and jealous overwhelm her, bowing her head down to look at her feet as she took the stairs one by one. From the minute Edward had encountered Bella, Rosalie had found reason to dislike her, even despise her. She had almost forced her way into her family, taken her brother's interest (something she had not been able to accomplish), and proven to be the most determined masochist. She'd endangered them all on several occasions, only managing to rekindle the prejudice against her that she had been unwillingly working to suppress for her father's sake. But right now her depression and disappointment was not geared towards the girl's faults.
This child was something she had been dreaming of for almost a century. It was a very impossible dream and desire that haunted her through the decades. Her family would always be the same- the seven of them. Well, now eight. Her human desires had followed her into this life and she had never found a feeling that would compensate for the loss of the family she had wanted. But this impossible ninth tugged at old pains in her heart. She wasn't sure how this was going to end, for it already had a foreboding beginning, but she knew that Bella was counting on her, of all people. She may have been an insignificant human, but she had understood enough of Rosalie that she would respond to something of this nature.
She heard Carlisle reenter his car, probably to prepare for whatever he and Edward had decided was right for Bella, completely neglecting the child. Perfect. She would need his short time away to tell Emmett. He had always sympathized with her, and would stand by her on something so vital. Esme would not allow it either. She would have to tell them both. She regained her speed and opened the door to the room where she and Emmett lived. "Emmett," she said, lowly, trying to contain the information to one person at a time. "We have a problem."

It was rare that Emmett sought quiet time. He was more of a people person, yet recently he had taken a keener interest in football and was supporting a particular team rather then the sport in general. He’d spent the afternoon held up in the room he and Rosalie lived in pouring over back rosters, almanacs and team programs for the Denver Broncos. Emmett had never felt any real need for an allegiance for one team, but over the past few years and seasons the Broncos had piqued his interest. He’d bought all his current reading material off the internet along with a orange and blue Broncos jersey; what was a supporter with out a jersey.
Over the past few minutes Emmett had heard, but not listened the comings and goings downstairs. He’s heard phones ring, but hadn’t been interested enough to listen in though he could of heard at least this side of the conversation if he wished. However, the average tries, yards gain and downs of the Broncos players past and present was far more capable of keeping his interest.
The only thing that could tear him away was walking towards the room. Emmett would know Rosalie’s scent and sound of approach in a stadium pack full of people. He would pick out her voice no matter how many other may cry out. He looked up to the door in anticipation of her entrance. They been together for many years, married more times then her could keep track of yet he still felt the same way he had the first time he’s looked on her. She was his angel.
She spoke his name before he could even smile at her. And he saw quickly that her face held no joy in seeing him. A problem? He couldn’t understand what now. There were no foreseeable problems, Alice would have alerted them. Quickly his mind went through anything he could have done to cause a problem between he and her rather then thinking on a wider scale.
He came up blank; then again it was rare he could see what he could do wrong.
“Babe?” He questioned as he stood and crossed to her, “What up?”

Edward saw the pain all over Bella's face as he rejoined her. Right now he thought it was probably better for him that he didn't know her thoughts. While he would have liked to know to try to find the best way to comfort her, he knew hearing the pain her her mind right now would probably put him back into shock or some sort of breakdown. She had to be thinking the same things as him, but even worse it was happening to her body. He wondered if she was regretting marrying him. Or just regretting the decision to consumate the marriage prior to turning her. Maybe she regretted ever meeting him. If he and his father were able to get Bella through this ordeal, and fix things. He wondered if Bella would even want anything to do with him.
Edward wanted to put his arms around her immediately and never remove them, but as he tried to put himself in her place, he feared she may be repulsed by his touch. He didnt want to do anything that would make things worse for her, but maybe she needed him to hold her, to give her the reassurances that he would be able to fix this, to make her safe and healthy again. As soon as Edward heard Bella's apology he knew he needed to take the risk of touching her. He immediately moved to put his arms around her. He pulled her against his chest, kissing the top of her head softly.
"Bella you did nothing wrong, this isn't your fault" He told her shaking his head. "I'm so sorry Bella...I love you...I'm sorry..." Edward said finding himself at a loss for words beyond the apologies that he knew didnt deserve forgiveness.

As they travelled together, Bella’s head was a battlefield of conflicted thoughts. She knew it was a good thing that Edward was keeping a distance from her, it would make it easier for her to not break down and tell him everything, but on the other hand, she didn’t want him to feel he should keep his distance. Or want to keep his distance. Of course she could no longer doubt his love for her, or his desire for her body, but she worried that this would wound him too much. She hated that he felt guilty for this happening, he should be glad, and she feared that it would put him off her altogether, especially when she had been considering staying human for another year or so. She swallowed hard, trying to stop herself from getting worked up, but it was increasingly difficult with the rising temperature and rising hormones.
She glanced to her side, towards the statuesque appearance of her husband and tears immediately sprung to her eyes, unable to be fenced in any longer, despite her best efforts. She was always such a cry-baby, hopefully it would filter into his assumptions. More tears fell as she realised that she was probably making him feel all the worse, and she hated it. She couldn’t wait until they were home to Rosalie, when everything could be sorted out civilly. Hopefully.
Selfishly, when Edward put his arms around her, Bella immediately melted into them, her head feeling the glorious benefit of the cool pillow and her eyes swept closed, dislodging the last of her tears – or so she tried to convince herself. Despite the situation, cocooned against his chest, she felt at her safest and she briefly wondered how she would tear herself away from him to go straight to Rosalie’s side. It would break her heart, but a stretching of her abdomen by the little nudger quickly reminded her why it was necessary. She tipped her head back, resting her chin on his chest, and looked up at him.
“You did nothing wrong,” she choked out, physically making herself stop talking before she gave the game away. She closed her mouth with an audible click and pressed herself against her husband, wanting so much to comfort him without giving him the impression that she had something planned. She tried to steer her thought away from seeing this as a betrayal either by himself or by her. “I love you, always,” she whispered, finally.

She joined Emmett, walking towards him as he did, but did not touch him yet. The anxiety on her features and stance were evident and she searched his face before collected her words. "Edward and Bella are coming back from their honeymoon early," she told him, remaining as quiet as possible for the moment. It was an interesting thing, knowing that your soulmate would do anything for you. Rosalie could already feel the commitment Emmett would make once she told him anything, which enabled her to keep the smallest bit of calm that kept her from panicking. But in the way she questioned Bella, she knew she needed to hear it from Emmett as well. She now reached for his hand, squeezing it and releasing some of her tension in her tight grip, trying to keep herself from shaking. "Bella got pregnant." Rose looked into his eyes, unleashing the full force of the turmoil she felt at hearing and delivering this news, knowing that he would understand. She felt the familiar and distinct sensation in her eyes, a sort of tingling and a bit of strain, that indicated the absence of tears.
"You know what Edward would want to do," she told him, disappointment showing for her brother. "But we have to help her." She knew how much Emmett had talked to her, trying to be more accepting of the human that had married their brother. She had let him talk, but normally ignored his and everyone else's advice. She would have spent the rest of forever feeling resentful of her, were it not for this. Now, she was unsure of the outcome of all of this as much as she was about how she would feel about Bella.

Every part of Rosalie was tensed as she crossed to Emmett and he instantly felt the same. He would do anything to protect her, heal her, and make her relaxed again. As she grabbed his hand and spoke Emmett felt her shaking in her grip and her body. He instinctively reached out to wrap his other arm around her. Pregnant? The word barely registering before she plowed on his her news.
Emmett knew everything there was to know about Rosalie and he knew that more then anything else that a baby was the one thing she wanted and craved with every ounce of her being. He felt the same void because it was the one thing he couldn’t give her; He could never make her a mother. This news shattered everything he’d ever held true about what he was. Vampires could father children? Of course he knew this, he knew Jayden and knew her to be both human and Vampire. Hearing that Edward, that his own brother was to be a father brought it all a lot closer to home; made it more real.
Sharing Rosalie’s knowledge about Edward and his ever increasing need to do what was right and what would protect Bella Emmett knew just what his brother would want to do with this news. “What we going to do Rose?” He asked. It wasn’t a matter of taking sides, or knowing better. For Emmett it was the fact that in matters like this he would always support Rosalie, not that he didn’t support his brother too on another level; in another way. He like Edward and Jasper and Carlisle would all do anything to protect their spouses and other members of their family right now that meant going along with his wife.
“Whatever you think is best Rosalie, I’ll support you and be with you; you know that.” He said pulling her to his chest. “But remember, Ed is just trying to keep Bella safe just as I would do with you.” He reminded her. He loved her with all that he was and had, but he knew sometimes she was one track minded and forgot the bigger picture.

Seeing Bella’s tears entering her eyes tore his heart into pieces. Edward could only imagine what she was feeling as he couldn’t hear the thoughts. The fear and disgust of this thing that was growing inside of her. It wasn’t human, and it was growing at a speed where she could already feel it inside her. He wouldn’t let it hurt her. Even if after this she never wanted to see him again, he’d make the last thing he did for her protecting her from this thing that he had caused inside of her.
Crying was such a human thing, but it was very Bella. It was a reminder that she was human, and that he should have had more self control. He should have stopped himself from making love to her. He should have protected her better. She was human and frail, and he had destroyed her innocence. Edward wished he was able to produce tears. To mimic her emotion, and show a sign of solidarity with her. But his inability to cry made it just that much more of a contrast between them. He was horrible and disgusting. Edward hated himself more in this moment than he had even when he first learned of the monster that he was turned into. Even other vampires werent this horrible. Even a nomad had the decency to only kill their prey, not destroy it from the inside out.
Though he had been terrified of making things worse for Bella by holding her, she didn’t pull back from his arms, and Edward selfishly took his own comfort from that, having her warm body close, not shying away from him, looking at him like the demonic being he truly was. Edward looked down as she lifted her chin to look at him. His eyes were full of an apology he didn’t think his words were strong enough to express. He didn’t want this to be the last time Bella looked at him. To be the last time he held her.
Edward shook his head as Bella, always so sweet and kind, told him he did nothing wrong. He prayed it wasn’t his vampire draws that were making her believe him to be so good, when he obviously wasn’t. “That’s not true” He said softly, wondering how she could even try to say that, knowing what he’d done to her. He held her tighter as she pressed herself against him. Hearing her whisper gave him a hope he knew he didn’t deserve, that they would make it through this. “I love you Bella, more than anything. I will take care of you, you’ll be okay, I promise”

Looking straight back into the depths of Edward’s amber eyes, Bella echoed back his apologetic look. She hoped that he wouldn’t question the nature of the expression that she couldn’t shift even when she tried. She was sorry that she had to betray him and side with the nudger and, of all people, Rosalie over him. She wished that she could just admit the plan to him, that she could persuade him to her way of thinking that this baby was a miracle, not a mistake, but… well, she knew that her husband was more stubborn than that. He loved her too much to allow her to risk herself even in the interest of their child. She knew that it would be useless to argue with him when he thought he was in the wrong.
“It is true,” she pushed insistently, uselessly attempting to remove some of the blame that he had placed on himself for their current predicament. “Edward, if I had my way we would have already…” she trailed off, reminding him of her request to pursue a more physical relationship before their marriage. She wondered if she would have had a maternity wedding dress if that had happened, or would the baby growing inside her never been conceived? A noticeable shiver ran down her spine as she pressed herself as close into Edward as she could, and she tried to disregard any thought that their child would not exist.
Hearing Edward declare his love for her once more and assure her that she would get through this simultaneously reassured and scared Bella. She would always, for the rest of her human and for the whole of her vampire life, crave Edward’s love over anything else in the world and she appreciated his desire to care for her above all else. However, she knew that he didn’t see the life within her as a part of them, but more like a parasite eating her life away, whereas the love she had for her little nudger was almost as strong as that which she felt for her husband himself. She prayed that Edward would forgive her for what she was about to do and not see it as a betrayal, but she wasn’t dissuaded from the task at hand.
“I know you do, and I – we – will be okay,” she said, closing her eyes as she rested against her husband’s still, icy chest. “I love you and I trust you…” The tears had stopped falling by now, leaving the skin around her eyes feeling stretched and weary. Perhaps it would be a good idea to at least feign sleep for the majority of the trip, for it hurt her to lie to her husband and Rose had warned her about how transparent she was when she was lying. She lifted a hand and curled her fingers into the material of Edward’s shirt and turned her head for a moment to kiss his shirted chest, her eyes still closed.

Allowing Emmett to pull her close, she leaned onto him for support as the situation at hand continued to stimulate her thoughts. Rosalie still had no idea how they were going to keep Carlisle and Edward from taking the baby, but at least she and Bella had Emmett on their side. Hearing her husband commit to the cause provoked a bit of relief, but a streak of annoyance hit her when he tried to defend their brother. "Edward is selfish," she spat out. "I bet you he hasn't even stopped to think that he's going to be a father." She spoke the word with a degree of reverence, and she looked up at Emmett pleadingly. Emmett would have been an amazing father, she knew it in her heart. It stabbed at her still chambers that she would never see it happen.
"We have to think of something before they land. We have to meet them at the airport, and separate her from Edward and Carlisle." It would have to be swift and seamless, Edward was fast and had his extra ability to his advantage, but hopefully with Emmett's protection and her own, Rosalie could keep them from harming Bella and... her niece. What they would do when they got back to Forks was beyond her. The odds were already against them, and she had so little time to prepare for her arrival, but Bella had called her and was counting on her to save her child. Rosalie had to make it work somehow.
