{Mid New Moon, 4 months after their first date, Kim} Jared took a deep breath and stepped away from the project he had been working on for the past hour. He was nervous, but who wouldn’t be? He was about to tell the girl he loved the reason why he seemed to disappear at the oddest times. He had to talk Emily and Sam into believing he could tell her on his own. But now he wasn’t so sure. What if it completely creeped her out? What if she seen him as a beast instead of boyfriend? He was prepared to show her if she needed to see it to believe it. He’d been practicing turning from beast to man like a hundred times. He couldn’t imagine being more prepared.
He walked with his hands in his black trouser pockets, as if to restrain himself. The small lot for the beach was only a few more feet away. There were no headlights beaming and that calmed him further. At least he had more time to run the conversation through his mind again. The possible out comes. That was Jared’s forte, planning things out and staying calm. So why did he feel like he was going to explode? Like his plans and efforts may fall through the cracks. And why on earth did he have to be so damn pessimistic?
Jared looked back at the glowing area he had created in the distance among the trees skirting the sand, and smiled. She’d have to like it, right? He felt his pulse quicken as the lights of her car came into view. He loosened the tie from around his neck, that was going to have to double as a blindfold. He folded up the tips of his black sleeves, showing his forearms, it was a little warmer than he expected. But the breeze rolling off of the waves was heaven sent.
He waved to the car before walking up to it and opening her door. “Hello Beautiful,” he smiled.

Kim had no idea what she was in for that night. Jared had called to ask her to meet him at the beach, to which she of course said yes. To this day her heart still fluttered whenever he showed the slightest interest in her. She still had the same feelings for him, and couldn't believe that he had actually noticed her, out of all the girls in school. She knew she was lucky, but also knew that with her luck it probably wouldnt last. So when she heard a bit of nervousness in Jared's voice when he called to invite her out, she feared for the worst. In Kim's mind, the only possible reason why he would be sounding nervous was if tonight wasn't going to end up as a nice evening.
In Kim's mind as she drove up to the beach, she was sure that Jared was going to dump her. Over the past few months of dating him and seeing how sweet he was, she was sure that he would be nice about it. She wasn't worried about him being mean to her or yelling at her, or even putting her down by saying things she knew other kids at school said behind their backs when they saw her with Jared. She knew he'd be a gentleman about it. Even though she felt almost ill at the thought that this would be their last date. She was going to try to enjoy what she could of it. To be honest, she appreciated that he had stayed with someone as plain as her as long as he did. She looked in the rearview mirror and brushed away a stray tear as she thought of not being with him anymore and then smiled to herself to make the best of it. She would never be angry at Jared for breaking up with her. He had given her the best months of her life.
As she pulled down the road she saw Jared waving to her and immediately drove over and parked her car. She smiled as he opened her door and called her beautiful . "Hey Jared..." She said shyly smiling back at him. She hoped he'd wait til the end of the night to break it off.

Jared smiled, but felt his hand twitch. He felt so nervous that his body was beginning to get confused. Like nervous energy was anger, the teen brushed a strand of her silky hair behind her ear, any time he touched her his mind seemed to correct itself. Like a sudden burst of identity awareness. He leaned in slowly, and kissed her ever so gently on her full lips. He wanted to take his time tonight, after all it may be their last. And he couldn’t blame her for that, instead he sighed.
He closed the car door behind her and, took her hand in his. “I have a few,” he paused, “surprises for you tonight,” he said taking a deep breath to control his composure. A life without her would be unbearable, worse than death. It would be like drowning every second for a million years, sucking the water in for air, and never feeling whole. Never being able to breath again.
“So,” he smiled now, forcing down all thoughts of negativity. If he kept looking like he was going to burst she was bound to start feeling it. After all, he could feel the odd sensation coming off of him in waves, large treacherous waves. He took his hand from hers and removed the tie from around his neck. He un-looped it, making it straight again. “I want you to put this over your eyes,” he said with a smile. He realized how strange it may sound. But he pressed on. “Than I’ll take your hand, and I’ll lead you to one of the surprises.” He looked at her, waiting for a nod, or some form of agreement.
When he got it, he stood behind her he placed the piece of fabric in front of her eyes, and tied it in the back. Careful to give her enough space, and not squeeze her head. “Okay,” he said as he took her hand in his once again. “Walk forward.” He led her with him toward the spot he’d set up. His heart felt heavy, as if he were walking them both to the plank. He’d thought the whole thing out. The place, the music the lights. He could only hope she’d enjoy it as much as she did in his day dreams.
“Okay you can stop…here,” he said as he let go of her hand for an instant. He pressed play on the small boom box, and Savage Garden’s ’Truly, madly deeply’ began to play. He rushed back over to stand behind her. The white candles were lit in exact locations, far from leaves, but scattered enough to look random. The small table was set with sparkling grape juice, to look like wine. He hoped it wasn’t too cheesy, but he wanted to make the night perfect. For her, for them. She deserved the best that he could offer.
Pale pink flower petals littered the sand. If tonight would be anything, yeah she would remember his story. And maybe even understand imprinting if he was lucky. But if he wasn’t he hoped his attempts at making her happy wouldn’t go unnoticed. “You can take the tie off now,” he said gently.

The kiss sent sparks soaring through Kim's body. It was far from their first kiss, but it was so close to being their last and she could still feel every ounce of attraction for him, both physically and mentally. There was nothing about this man that she didnt absolutely love. She appreciated that even knowing that he probably didnt care about her anymore, whether it was after realizing she was nothing special or maybe even after having found someone else he liked better, he still kissed her and made her feel special. He was very considerate.
She allowed him to take her hand, leading her away from the car. His hand always felt to warm as it surrounded hers. But she could feel his tension even more prominent than it had been before on the phone. It was slowly breaking her heart but she used all of her energy to not let it show on her face, but enjoy whatever last bits of their relationship were left. "Surprises?" She repeated his choice of words. It seemed odd he'd call dumping her that, but maybe he was trying to make it seem less scary.
Kim then watched him take off his tie. He wanted to blindfold her? This night was becoming stranger by the minute. "Umm...okay.." She said quietly, agreeing to let him do whatever he had planned. She stood still while he tied it around her eyes. He was so gentle with her, making sure it was comfortable for her. Being without her sight only increased her nervousness. For a moment it felt as though the next time she opened her eyes, he'd be gone. It wasn't a second later though before he had taken her hand again as promised. Kim was sure she'd end up tripping and making a fool of herself so she held on tightly to his hand for comfort.
As they walked forward Kim tried to figure out where Jared was taking her, but she was soon disoriented even though she was sure it wasn't actually that far. He then told her that she could stop and suddenly his hand was gone from her. The control she had maintained over her face was gone as she frowned worriedly with the absence of contact with him. "Jared..." She called out softly as soon as his hand was gone.
She then heard the click of a button and heard music starting to play. Kim immediately recognized the song, it her favorite romantic song. She bit her bottom lip listening to the song and feeling him returning to stand behind her. She slowly reached up as he told her she could take off the tie. She slipped it off from her eyes, opening them wide though they soon brimmed with tears seeing everything Jared had dont for her. The area looked beautiful, the candles and the sparkling grape juice and when she looked down she saw the pink petals in the sand. She took a moment to take it all, along with the music. She found herself speechless, turning around her eyes needing to seek out Jared, but a smile on her face as she shyly clung to him in an embrace.
"I...I can't believe you did all of this" She finally managed to get the words out.

Jared looked out from behind her at the scene he had created. The flames of the white candles danced, and it almost seemed like they swayed to the music. The deep greens of the trees that lined the beach were illuminated with the serene pale hues. He stuffed his hands in his pockets as he watched her remove his stand in blind fold. She took a moment, before turning around with tears brimming in her perfect eyes.
His arms wrapped around her, and he gently held the side of her face to his chest as he planted a gentle kiss atop her head. He smiled, relieved that she liked it, relieved that she acknowledged he was trying. “Believe it angel,” he said, “I’d do anything for you.” The words were much more true than she could ever imagine. She was his life, he was holding his world in his arms, and she didn’t even know it.
He pulled back gently, releasing his arms from around her frame. He gently took her face in his heated palms, and looked her deep in the eyes. He hoped she would understand, and give him the chance to explain everything. He’d decided the night before that he would hold out on the mention of werewolves and imprinting until she got more comfortable with the fact that he was more head over heels for her than he had ever put on. After all being a freshly turned werewolf needed its practice before he could immerse his life with hers.
He took a deep breath and smiled, she was somehow even more beautiful in the light of the flickering flames and moon light. “Surprise number one, shouldn’t be too much of a surprise,” he laughed. He hadn’t said the words yet, but he’d tried to show them, a million different ways. Four months seemed long enough, any sooner and he feared he may have looked like a player. He searched her eyes for any sign of fear. It was as if he expected her to know he was a monster. “I’m in love with you,” he smiled.
His hands, left her face, and he rested them on her small waist. He didn’t want her to feel forced to look at him. But her eyes, always made him feel like he was in some other time, in another world. They were a touch of heaven. He laughed nervously and looked away toward the sand. He looked back at her and winked, before taking her hand again. He moved them closer to the table and motioned for her to sit across from him.
Jared sat opposite her, his composure creeping back in.

Kim hoped her body wasn't shaking from adrenaline as Jared put his arms around her. All of this was so unexpected. So beautiful, and thoughtful. She didn't think she deserved any of this. This was like something out of the movies and she was just an ordinary girl. But in his arms now as he held her, she felt special. She heard his words, telling her that he'd do anything for her and for the first time that evening wasn't positive that he was breaking up witih her tonight.
As their embrace broke and he took her face in his hands, Kim just stared up in to Jared's eyes, getting lost in them. He was the most handsome, and kindest man she had ever met. She could stare at him forever. Then as she stared into his eyes, she heard the words that she had only ever heard from him before in her dreams. He loved her. A complete shock came over her as her mind tried to adjust from her previous line of thinking that this was their last night together, to wrapping her brain around the fact that he had just professed that he loved her. Kim didn't even know how that was possible. But as she looked in those deep eyes, she saw sincerity. He didn't look as though he was just trying to trick her, or sweet talk her into anything. He meant the words, and the smile looked like he was happy about it, not fighting off the feeling.
Kim's face had lit up into a smile, and her heart was racing. Of course she was in love with him too. He had probably known that from their first date. How could she not be in love with him. But now she didn't have to be as terrified of letting that show, or of saying those words that she had written into her diary many times before. She took a deep breath, hoping her voice wouldn't be shaking as she spoke. "Jared, I'm in love with you too"
She allowed him to lead her over to the table and she sat down across from him. It was a relief to sit at this point as she didn't know how much longer her legs would hold out on her after it sunk in that Jared Grestone was in love with her. "This was definitely a surprise...I didn't expect any of this"

Jared felt like he was looking at the tiny grains of sand for minutes, although he was sure it was probably only seconds, or one minute at the most till he heard her voice again. She loved him too, and hearing the words come from her gentle tone was like listening to a symphony. A song written and played to steal his emotions and make them hers to do with what she pleased. He couldn’t imagine life without her, which is what made him go to such lengths to show her he needed her by his side. Once they were seated across from each other he reached his large hand across the table to hold hers. It was odd that she had never asked him about the heat…except for in the very beginning. She seemed just about used to it, if that was at all possible. And, if she was used to it would she accept the far fetched reasoning for it? Jared laced his fingers through hers, and rested their hands against the table. A single candle and the mimicked bottle of “wine” was all that lye between them.
He looked her in the eye, smiling still. “You know, you don’t have to say it. I don’t want you to feel pressured into loving me,” he laughed. Yeah, he had been head of the basketball team most of his high school years, and could easily be considered popular. But, he didn’t like titles that he didn’t make on his own. And he didn’t want Kim to believe he was anything like the other jocks. His mother had taught him manners and how to treat a lady, he only wished she would have prepared him on how to woo a girl he actually cared for.
He winked before pulling his hand away from hers to pour the sparkling juice into their wine glasses. He placed the half full glass in front of her, and one in front of himself. “So,” he said moving his chair a to sit next to her. “Tonight is about secrets.” he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “Tell me one of your’s, and,” he got closer to her ear, “I’ll tell you mine.” He sat back and made a face. He didn’t want to make things too serious, after all she was probably confused with the setup as it was.

The last thing that Kim wanted was for Jared to think that she was only telling him she loved him too because he had told her first or because she felt pressured into it. She didn't feel pressured at all. Her mind went through this big speech of what she could tell him, of how she liked him long before he asked her on their first date, and how that crush grew to real love over these past few months, but that she was just scared to tell him. The thoughts flowed through her mind as if she were telling him but there was still that fear that if he knew just how long she had felt that way for him, he might suddenly get freaked out and leave.
Instead she just shook her head. "No, I promise I didnt feel forced..I've been wanting to tell you the same thing, but I didnt want you to feel you had to say it, or to just say it back because it was what I wanted to hear"
She looked down shyly at their hands joined on the table. His hands were always so warm and comforting to her, whenever he held them. He must have alot of love in him to always be that warm. She then smiled as he started to pour their drinks and placed the glass in front of her. "Thank you" She told him, taking a sip as he moved his chair next to hers.
"Secrets?" She asked him, wondering if there was something specific he was hoping to find out about her, or that he wanted to share about himself, or if this was just like a get to know you thing. Kim laughed as he said he'd tell her one of his secrets if she told him one. "Umm, Okay..." She said, trying to think of what there even was to tell him that he didn't already know. There wasn't a whole lot to her life, and most of it he had probably learned already. Her face blushed as she thought about her diary. How many times had she written his name on their, added it to hers, tried out how Mrs. Kim Greystone would sound...but that was too embarrassing, wasn't it? Maybe something smaller to start off with, something that wouldnt bring her utter humiliation if the secret he decided to share was something completely innocent, like that he was a secret comic book collector.
"Well..." She said, biting her lip a little nervously. "You may have already noticed...but I kinda had this crush on you...pretty much since I met you"

Jared nudged her playfully when she asked the single word secrets. It was adorable how innocent she was. He hated to think he would ruin all of that by bringing her into his darker world. One where vampires, and werewolves really exist and the night is never safe. He hated the fact he was ready to doom her to it if she let him. Was it selfish to not want to be without your soul mate, even if it endangered them?
He pushed that though deep down within him. He would protect her against all evils, except for himself. Unless she asked him to. He tried to smile through his thoughts, luckily he was pretty good at hiding things he didn’t want seen. He wondered if she would actually reveal something new to him. She was so sweet, so shy, that he couldn’t imagine it happening. She’d probably tell him her favorite food, or something not even remotely close to what he was ready to show her.
Jared lifted her chin softly like she was made of glass, he didn’t say a word. After all actions speak louder than words. His own warm lips touched hers, they felt much cooler. As if she could soothe the fire that had been lit within him months ago. Her lips parted with the curl of the tip of his tongue, allowing passage. He gently let his tongue dance with hers to a song unknown. Somewhat unwillingly he slowed the kiss to a stop before leaning back to give her space. He brushed a strand of her silky hair behind her ear, and kissed the tip of her ear lobe.
“I wish you would have said something sooner,” he chuckled, smiling at her once more. “Hmmm,” he said squeezing her shoulders a little, and relaxing again. “You make me feel whole.” He looked at her with a more serious expression now. “For a while there I was losing myself,” he admitted, “but, you, you’re my angel you brought me back.” he said honestly. He played with her hair, twirling it through his fingers.

Kim laughed as Jared nudged her. Her eyes were immediately averted after telling him her secret. She was far too nervous to see the expression on his face. She wished she had found something better to tell him, something that wouldn't make her face this red, or make her so worried that he'd be put off by it.
Kim could feel his hand slowly lifting her chin. She looked up at him and her worry eased as she saw his eyes. He still looked at her with that same loving look. The same softness in his eyes that made her feel like there was no one else but her. She closed her eyes as his lips met hers, softly returning his kiss. The way he kissed her took her breath away and brought back her racing heartbeat. She always had such a strong physiological reaction to him.
When they pulled away from the kiss, Kim was breathless. She smiled as she blushed and looked down as he kissed her earlobe. She leaned into his body, resting her head against his shoulder, not because she was tired, but just enjoying the closeness to him right now. She smiled as he didnt seem bothered by her admission but thought she should have mentioned it sooner. She stifled a laugh, knowing that would never have happened. She tilted her head to look up at him as he got more serious. He spoke as if he were a poet, calling her an angel who had saved him. She felt like she was far from an angel, but was completley touched by his words.
She smiled again, just letting the feeling of happiness wash over her. She had thought that today was going to be horrible, but it ended up being one of the best days of her life. She let him play with her hair, loving how comfortable they felt together. She then looked up at him again with a grin. "So, now its your turn, tell me your deep dark secrets"

Jared enjoyed having her by his side. It was just about the only time he understood what love songs were really about. Before Kim Connweller he had really thought they were all full of crap, rhyming soft words to sell albums. It was only now the songs earned any really understanding, any real merit. He looked down at his woman, he imagined all of her possible reactions to the words he was bound to say tonight. He wished there was a way around it. But, it didn’t feel right not being completely honest.
They’d gone out four months and he had been worried about the right time to tell her he loved her, let alone tell her he was probably the worst thing for her. But that seemed human nature, to walk in to the line of fire and test your faith in heaven. He thought over the possibility of following in shadow if she chose against him. Not that he wanted to be some stalking weirdo, but knowing if she found someone else that he would eventually be forgotten about, even if he became her best friend.
He was awoken from his morbid thoughts by her velvet voice, and was quite thankful for it. He smiled widely before stating, “I don’t know if you want to know the deepest ones, their kinda’ kinky,” he chuckled. In reality he just wanted to see the pink return to her cheeks, it was a reminder she was human, and wasn’t corrupted by the beast within him. She was still pure of all thoughts and things unclean, or the least bit evil. Like himself.
He winked, and reached forward to take a sip of his juice. He placed the glass gently back onto the table. Being with her had taught him how to deal with the force that pumped through his veins. He was like a superhero that grew fur and walked on all fours in his true identity. But, could beasts ever be considered the good guys? He thought over possible things to reveal before explaining the real reason they were there in the first place. “I’m not always as confident as I act.” He laughed, “deep down past those kinky thoughts,” he reminded her with a low laugh. “You have no idea how nervous I was about tonight. Still am a little,” he smiled. So far so good, the secret of him being in love was taken rather well. And, he was delighted to know she shared his sentiments.

Jared was right. His words had caused Kim to blush deeply and turn her eyes away, with a bit of an embarrassed smile on her face. As embarrassed by the thought of some kinky secrets as Kim was, truth be told, at this point even those wouldn't scare her away. She hoped one day to know all his secrets, good or bad, kinky or not. She wanted to know exactly what he liked. She wanted to make him even half as happy as he made her. As much as her curiousity was peaked, her cheeks wouldn't be able to get red enough to make her ask if there really was a kinky secret.
She laughed as she watched him wink, and then move gracefully with the glass of juice. She smiled as she listened to him revealing to her just how nervous he was. It was hard for her to believe that he'd ever be nervous, especially around her. He always seemed so confident. He was popular, and the head of the basketball team, not to mention incredibly gorgeous. Kim couldnt think of one reason why he wouldn't be confident. But she didn't think he was lying. If it had been anyone else, she may have thought they were mocking her shyness by trying to confess to this, but not with him.
"I never would have guessed you were anything but confident all the time" She told him honestly, still completely perplexed as to why he'd still be nervous about tonight, or nervous about her in general. He had to see how much better he was than her.
"You dont have anything to be nervous about, not with me. Even your kinky secrets wont change how I feel about you" She told him, the blush returning to her cheeks once more, where she was sure it would stay for the remainder of the evening.

Jared nodded. “No one would.” he smiled. He noted that she looked at little confused at the fact he was still nervous. He couldn’t blame her, she had no clue of what he was trying to prepare her for. And he was wondering if he was doing an okay job at it thus far. It wasn’t her that made him edgy tonight, it was finding the right way to tell her what he was. The way to make her want to stay.
The teenager grinned as she told him he had nothing to be nervous about. She truly did not have any idea. He couldn’t fight the feeling that he should just get it all over with. If she wanted to leave him after the confession she was free to. He would never stand in the way of what she wanted, no matter how much it would hurt him. There was nothing he wanted in life more than her happiness.
He sat up looking as though he was bothered by something. He placed his elbows on his knees and looked over at her. “Okay, I’m going to ask you a few questions,” he smirked thinking he may have found a way to bring it up. “I want you to answer without thinking it over, just blurt it out, okay?” he asked taking her hand in his again. He needed the contact, it was all that was holding him together at the moment.
“Favorite books are sci-fi like, or auto biographies?” He asked hoping she chose the first. He gave her moment to reply before moving on to the next question. “Dogs or cats?” His eyes looked to the ground not wanting to effect her answers. This all had to be an honest exchange. “Do you believe in soul mates?” this time Jared did look at her, but only to remember her face in the moon light. The vision of perfection.
He pondered over the last question. This one was almost King of the others. “Describe three traits for any monster.” Jared thought over her answers putting them together like pieces of a puzzle.

Kim smiled when he confirmed that no one would have guessed that he wasn't confident. She liked the thought that she knew something about him that no one else did. Yes thats what a secret was, but it felt nice having something just between them. She sat up straighter as she watched him seem to have an idea about what to do next. She giggled lightly as he said he was going to ask her questions and gave her the instructions not to think about her answers but just blurt it out. It would be hard for her but she'd try.
"Okay, I'll try to give you my most unplanned answers" She told him with a smile, thinking this could either be fun or end up embarrassing depending on what he asked her.
His first question was easy. She loved to read and was a bit of a geek, so she knew her preference. "Sci-fi " She answered confidently. His next question seemed even easier, she loved animals but definitely had her preference picked out. "Definitely dogs, big ones" She said, prefering large breeds to the small toy sized dogs. They were much more fun.
Kim watched his eyes leave hers and worried she was giving bad answers. Did he like autobiographies and cats? Was she not acting the way he thought she should? She gently squeezed his hand, increasing their contact slightly since she had lost the eye contact. She smiled when she heard his next question and his eyes returned to hers. She paused a little while before answering this one but was just as sure of her answer. She nodded. "Definitely" She said, hoping this didnt scare him off as she was sure the look in her eyes said she wanted that soulmate to be him.
She laughed lightly at his next question about traits of a monster. Since he asked for three it took her a little longer. "Umm, lets see....They're dark and menacing looking...they're obsessed with killing for no reason...and they're completely out of control with rage"

She was so adorable, so innocent. She deserved far better than he could ever offer, and he knew this. Jared just didn’t want to face it. If it worked for the elders before him, it was sure to work for him too, right? He listened to her answers one by one, prepared for the worst and hoping for the best. And he hoped she would describe a troll or something for the beast, but she was bound to pick out who he was.
Sci-fi, one point for werewolves, O for dooms day. He felt a twinge of relief wash over him. But listened carefully for the next answer. He hated to think of himself as a pet, but it was the closest he could get without revealing too much too soon. ‘Big dogs,’ he wondered how big was too big.
