Jake rolled his eyes at his dad. "Will you ever give up on the "Cold Ones"?" he asked, knowing the answer right away. Jacob found it complete nonsense that his dad pushed the fables so much on the others of the reservation. But usually he didn't go on about them like he has been today. "Why are you so worried about them right now dad? I mean usually you're not so uptight." Jacob asked the question like he believed that they were real, just to please his dad. It was no use in arguing with him about it too much.
Jacob leaned against the counter and folded his arms across his body. "Dad, you got sick and are now in a wheelchair, no one knows why," he mumbled. "And that's not all you're good for. I mean you are my dad, that's a pretty big hardship right there. You should get an award or something," he laughed, "Besides, I'm sure being an elder of an entire reservation isn't a walk in the park."

Billy looked at him. "well I just don't trust them and I have this feeling that they are back. It sort of a thing that my ancestors taught me. I will then in turn teach you." Billy knew more then he was going to let on.
"Well I guess you are right. I am a great dad. I just wish I had not go so and now been here. The elders do have it hard but it is a rather fun job. " Billy was now taking the food out of the pan and putting it on a plate to cool. He then pulled back. "so how the rabbit going."

Jacob just listened to his dad go on about the La Push legends, not saying anything more about them. Hoping that he'd drop the subject soon. If Jacob listened to anymore of it, it was bound to rub off on him and he'd be the crazy son of Billy Black. Billy and all the other elders weren't considered crazy, seeing as though they were the elders of the reservation, everyone looked up to them.
"The Rabbit's going good," he shrugged, "Just need a master cylinder for it right now. But I have no idea where I'm going to find one of those." Jacob had a 1986 Volkswagen Rabbit sitting in his makeshift garage right now. Another one of his vehicular projects, something he enjoyed doing immensely. He had spent quite a bit of time on it and now only needed one piece. And of course the one thing he needed was going to be the hardest to get.

Billy smiled at his son. He was glad that the car was going great. "well I glad that your car is going great. Your dad will need you to go get things and since well he can't drive." Billy knew that he was not going to be able to carry with his one wheelchair.
"So Jacob what are we want to do now. Tomorrow we are going to the Swanns so you can hang with Bella and I can watch the door but I have nothing to do at the moment. You pick it this time." Billy like doing things with him family. The ones that were still around at least.

"Thanks dad," he mumbled. Jacob wasn't sure how long it would take him to get the master cylinder, so until then they'd have to borrow another car, seeing as though Billy sold the only working vehicle they had. But Jake was sure it wouldn't be a problem, anyone would loan a car to them when they needed it.
Jake pondered what they should do today. "Maybe you could show me more of that carving?" he suggested. Billy was a master carver, and had been showing Jake a little bit of how to do it. Jacob was nothing compared to Billy. In fact, Jacob sucked at carving the wood into intricate pieces of art.

Billy smiled as he started to roll out of the door. He always carved outside. Billy looked over at his son. "okay now Jacob lets get the right type of wood first. Remember what I taught you." He sat there waiting for Jacob to give him a piece. Billy was great at carving that how he seemed to make all of his money. He would make things and then sell them to all the kids that came up to the beach.
"so if you can get the right piece of wood we can start with our next lesson." He knew that Jacob had become great at picking the correct piece of wood.

Jacob was grateful he didn't need to go down to the beach to find the wood. He had collected plenty and stored it in his garage for his dad. "Sure dad, be right back," he told him as he crossed the porch and headed toward his garage.
It didn't take Jacob long to get back to where his dad was. He carried two pieces of bleached driftwood, which could easily be found on the shores of First Beach. Both pieces were decent, with very little warped marks and both were a slightly off white color. "Here you go," he said, handing his dad the better of the two branches.

Billy smiled taking the piece of wood and starting to carve on it. He at gotten even better at it once he had become wheelchair bound not able to do anything. "okay now Jacob remember you never cut toward you always cut away. By cutting toward you are talking the chance of cutting yourself."
Billy then took one long cut out of the wood. "See you cut long streaks to get the bark off and making it smooth. Feel that." He hands the wood out to be felt.

Jake pulled out his pocket knife. It probably wasn't the best carving tool, but it was what he used most of the time. He could actually carve pretty well with it. Jake didn't use his knife on his piece of driftwood, instead, he observed Billy's skill.
Jake nodded his head in understanding at his dad, pieces of his black hair falling in his face. Quickly brushing it out of his face, he reached out to touch the piece of wood that his dad was offering. "Neat," he commented.
With that Jake started to carve long pieces out of his own wood canvas, using the new learned techniques his dad showed him. He didn't have a clue what he planned to make, but hoped it would come to him as he worked.
After a few minutes of quiet carving Jacob tried to strike up a conversation with his father. "Have to run any more errands today, dad?" he asked. Jake took a seat on the porch, in front of the door to his house. He crossed his legs in front of him and continued to carve, waiting for his dad to answer.

Billy went back to carving on this one. He had decided to make it a snowman for the holiday's they always seemed to sell fast. "No Jacob I don't have any other errands that I need done. So if you want you can go play with your friends. I will not mind. Plus you need to tell them to come hang. I miss being with them."
Billy was telling the truth. He never got to see any of them like he used to. They all seemed to have grown up. "just bring me some more of that wood up."

"Dad, I don't play with my friends," he laughed. Jacob wasn't too sure where his friends were right now. Usually Embry and Quil, his two best friends invited themselves on over. "I'm sure they'll come over sometime soon, they always do," he added.
Jacob sat his carving project down at his side and looked up at his dad. "You should really get out of the house sometime dad," he told him, "You're going to get depressed sitting here all the time." It was true, Jake had heard of stories of people getting depressed from being cooped up inside all the time. He could believe it too, he wouldn't want to be stuck inside all the time, he enjoyed the outdoors too much.

Billy looked at his son. He knew his friends came over when ever and was shocked they were not here yet. "oh okay well I bet you are right they will show up soon."
Billy thought about the next thing he said. Billy knew he got out of the house. "Jacob what you mean get out of the house. I do all the time. I have Elder meeting then I go to Charlie's to hang so why you saying I am going to get depressed sitting here. I can't go many places with out you. You know I hate to make you feel like you have to take care of me so most of the time I sit out side like was are no carving." Billy knew it was all true.

Jake shrugged his broad shoulders and turned his eyes away from his dad's face. "Well I guess you do get out of the house. But I mean just repeating the same routine, doesn't it get kind of old?" he asked.
He wasn't trying to say his dad's life was boring, just that maybe he should switch it up a bit. "Maybe you could," he paused for a moment, "I don't know, leave La Push and Forks for once. Maybe go into the big cities, like Tacoma and Seattle?"
Jake put his hands on either side of him, palms down, and pushed himself from the ground. He left his project there, not bothering to clean it up.

Billy laughed at his son. He knew what his son had meant. "well not really it might get old if it was not fun. I like doing it so that why I am able to do it a lot. " Billy had been making this these carvings for a living. He then scratched his head when his son was talking about going to the big city.
"So Jacob if I go to the big city like you want me to would you go with me. If not how am I going to get around onces there." Billy was telling the truth. He bet an Elder would take him but would not want to walk around the whole time with him. That he would need someone else for.

"Dad, all you have to do is ask, and I'll help you," he told him. "I don't mind helping you, I've told you that a million times. It's not like I'm constantly helping you and that's all I ever do. I do have a life outside of it." Actually, Jacob sometimes found himself feeling guilty for leaving his dad all the time. A lot of his time was spent in the garage, tinkering with his car, or out with his friends.
"If you want to go to the cities, sure I'll go with you. I wouldn't have suggested you going there without thinking about taking you there," he said. Jacob now thought that it would be good for his dad. And for himself. Jake hadn't taken a trip down to one of the bigger cities in a long time. In fact, he couldn't remember the last time had been there.
"You know," he commented, "I was expecting you to say somethin' about the Cold Ones being the reason you can't leave La Push and Forks." He laughed.
