Approaching the house down its long drive had given her the same feeling each time she had visited the Cullen house over the last few days it was a feeling of excitement and nervousness rolled together; an almost sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. Ever since her run in with Rosalie and the terrible feelings she had inflicted on Alice Jayden had tried to only come to the house when they were out of the way. Yet today she didn’t mind who would be there because she knew she wouldn’t be staying for long. Today she and Esme had arranged to view houses near to Forks to be her home. Jayden couldn’t believe how excited she was at the thought of her own home.
She brought her bug to a complete stop in front of the large house. It was impressive and beautiful but Jayden knew she would never be able to afford it or want one like it. It was a family home and she didn’t have a family.
Pulling down the visor she checked her hair and face. Esme was always so immaculately turned out Jayden didn’t want to look like a poor cousin next too her. Though without any motherly instruction Jayden wasn’t sure she’d ever get this girl thing right. Smiling lightly at her self in the mirror she snapped shut the visor and exited the car in a fluid movement. This far from town and most civilization she doubted anyone would notice her advanced speed and movement as she quickly reached the door.
For a moment she listened to see who was inside. The house was so covered with the scents of the others it was almost to determine if they were recent or not. The house seemed silent; perhaps no one was at home?
Jayden was still unsure of her etiquette and familiarity with the Cullens and not wishing to offend she knocked gently upon the door. She knew that if anyone was home they would hear it, if they hadn’t already caught her scent and approach.

Esme sat at the rarely used dining room table, various pieces of paper strewn in front of her. She had spent most of the night and the past couple days going through various properties for sale located around the small cloud covered city of Forks. It was a hobby of Esme's, looking out and choosing properties; designing them accordingly. And it was a pleasure when Esme had been asked by Jayden, a family friend of theirs, to locate a house for her. She had taken it upon herself to find the best and only the best for Jayden. Picking out homes that she knew Jayden would enjoy and like, and even finding pieces of land, just in case nothing was of Jayden's taste. If they were to take the latter route, picking a piece of land, Esme could easily and quickly draw up some plans and construction could begin shortly after.
Flipping through the stack of 'possibles' Esme pulled out one that she changed her mind on and put it off to the side with the other houses she didn't particularly like. She heard the familiar vehicle pull down their drive and an instinctive, warm smile spread across her lips. Esme knew this would be a fun and exciting day. They would find something perfect for Jayden, she was sure of it.
A slight chuckle escaped her lips as she listened to Jayden pause and rap lightly on the door. In a flash of movement Esme was at the front door, pulling it open gently. "You don't need to knock hun, you're welcome in our home anytime," she said warmly, smiling at the girl. "Come on in," she said, holding the door wide in a welcoming gesture, "I am just collecting the information on the various houses and properties I think you would like the most. It'll only take a moment longer."
She turned back toward the dining room, using her perfected human pace to get back. As she reached the wooden table she turned back to Jayden, lifting the papers from the table and tucking them under her arm. "How have you been doing?" she asked.

The door had opened so quickly it almost startled Jayden, but all that was washes away by the woman on the other side. Esme was everything Jayden had always imagined a mother to be; warm, beautiful, friendly and loving. In the short time she had known Esme she had become quiet fond of her. It was that fondness that had spurred her to ask Esme for her help in finding a more permanent home near by. It was easy to see by the way the whole Cullen house was decorated that Esme had impeccable taste.
Knowing she was welcome out the house and walking straight in were two different things. Jayden would never feel comfortable just walking into their home, least of all for fear of meeting up with Rosalie again. That was one meeting she didn’t want a repeat of. She smiled at Esme as she walked over to the impressive dining table and collect some papers. By the size of the stalk Jayden could see they had a fair few viewings ahead of them, she was just glad to have Esme by her side; all of this was a little too new to her.
The caring warmth flowed over Jayden as Esme enquired after her own well being. In truth all was well; there was little that Jayden could see going wrong in this small, rural town. She smiled brightly at Esme, “I am very well thank you. Very excited about today to be honest.” She smiled showing her excitement and a little nerve. “How are you and the rest of the family?”

Pausing by the table Esme stood, the same warm smile adorning her heart shaped face, widening as she listened to Jayden talk about the day's plans. It was something Esme was looking forward to herself, able to help the hybrid girl that had happened upon their house not to long ago on her father's instructions. "You should be excited," Esme replied happily, "Finding a home should be a lot of fun for you. And the family is doing well, thank you for asking."
Shifting slightly, in an act of normalcy, not one of necessity, Esme shifted her wait to the opposite leg. She recalled the first home she had happened upon in this new, immortal life. It wasn't one she had picked out, but it had belonged to both Carlisle and Edward. And it was obvious that no female had resided in that home. The decorating skills were poor and nearly non-existent. When they moved, finding a new home, Esme had gladly taken on the task of choosing a location on the outskirts of the town they had chosen to live near. She had decorated it accordingly, fulfilling everyone's needs. A large study and library for Carlisle, an open front room for Edward to play his piano, and large spacious bedrooms for them to make their own areas. Esme had every intention of helping Jayden make this home perfect.
With a slight, barely noticeable shake of her head Esme turned her attention back to what was planned for the day. "Shall we get started?" she asked, taking a small step in the direction of the door. "We have a lot of homes to get through."

Jayden had followed Esme closer to the table without realizing it. The room still felt unfamiliar, but she felt more welcome then she had when last she had visited and had her run in with Rosalie. As Esme gathered the last of the papers Jayden looked around into the living room, without moving, her eyes were drawn to the beautiful piano. She could see Edward sitting there playing, it was very him. The house, or the parts that she had seen, held bits of each of the Cullens in a way a family home should. Jayden knew her home would be only for her.
Looking back at Esme as she fell silent and Jayden could clearly see the older woman was lost in thought. Jayden watched as she shifted her weight and committed it to memory to help her appear more human in the future. She had had little practice been human and little need to practice the act; she knew now she would need to become more adept at it.
A smile quickly covered Jayden’s face again as Esme spoke. Jayden was already moving towards the door as Esme informed her there were a lot of houses to go through. The idea excited her more and scared her a little. She knew viewing homes meant agents and possible home owners; was she ready to be around humans? She pushed the thought away as she exited the door and took a deep breath of the clear air to help clear her mind.
“Thank you so much for this help Esme.” Jayden said as she glanced to the motherly and beautiful woman. Jayden laughed lightly before her next question. The peels of her bell like laughter carrying on the slight breeze. “I presume your car may be better and more appropriate then mine.” She said glancing at her little Bug and offering it a silent apologetic smile.

Esme followed behind Jayden through the front door. The cool air blew over her granite skin, ruffling the pages she held in her hands and blowing caramel colored strands of her hair across her face. She smiled at the sound of laughter, an expression that would always evoke the same sort of reaction from Esme. The sound was comforting and happy, something Esme enjoyed greatly. "Well if you'd like to take my car we can," she replied, turning her direction toward the large garage all the cars shared.
She led the way into the garage and to her car. She had received the silver Impala LTZ as a gift from her son, Edward. She stepped to the driver's side door and pulled it open. She hadn't felt the need to lock the doors and had irresponsibly left the keys in the center console. Though it was highly unlikely that someone would happen upon their house and steal their cars without knowing, it still wasn't like Esme.
She started the car, listening as it quietly started, waiting for Jayden to take her spot in the passenger seat. The papers she had gathered before sat on the dashboard. "Where do you want to start?" she asked Jayden, gesturing to the papers of houses and properties. "Those are all places that I think would be perfect for you, go ahead and take a look and tell me what you like."

Slipping into the car’s passenger seat next to Esme felt amazingly comfortable and natural, but Jayden was beginning to feel this woman had that effect on most people. She had an openness and warming demeanor that Jayden felt must be hard to find in anyone; let alone a vampire. The more time Jayden was around the Cullen family the more she couldn’t help realizing that stereotypes really could be all wrong.
Reaching up to the papers on the dashboard as the car purred to life Jayden flipped through them. Her eyes scanned the pictures and details quicker then a human and if one would present they would probably think she wasn’t looking; she hold Esme knew she was. A couple of house stood out from the pile and she searched through them to pull them out. They were modest homes, close to town but far enough away to be a comfortable distance and they all shared two factors; they were surrounded by the forest as most of Forks was and they were within a few miles of the Cullen house – easy running distance for their kind. Jayden was drawn to them for all the reasons, but been close to her kind made sense especially when she still needed to learn so much from Carlisle as well as the rest of the family.
Placing the others back on the dash, but not rejecting them, Jayden turned to Esme as the car pulled out on to the highway. “I like them all, but these stand out.” She said holding them out to her, she had no fear the woman would be able to view them and drive; her mind able to cope with both tasks easily. “If it is ok, I would like to still be a little close to your family.” She said quietly as she explained her reasoning for the choices. The scenery of the highway rushed pasted the windows as Jayden waited to hear Esme’s answer and her views on the houses; both equally important to her.

Esme pulled the car swiftly onto the highway at a high speed. Though Esme could easily get away with driving at the illegal speeds her other family members drove out she didn't see the thrill or necessity in breaking another law if she didn't need to. They weren't in any sort of rush, and the day was still early, the two of them had plenty of time to look at various houses. It would be a good bonding opportunity for the two of them, Esme already having taken the young hybrid into her life with open arms.
Turning her warm, heart shaped face toward Jayden, a typical loving smile adorned her face. Esme's honey colored eyes quickly skimmed over the papers that Jayden held out toward her. Her expanded mind already having memorized the directions to all the houses, Esme just picked out the particular directions to the ones Jayden was most interested in. "Alright, we'll head to the closest one first," Esme replied before turning her gaze back out toward the stretch of highway. This house wasn't too much further so Esme quickly slid her car to the far right side of the road, easily pushing herself between the few cars that also drove around her.
Esme flashed her eyes back to Jayden as she took the next exit, an even bigger grin on her pale face. If anything she would have preferred Jayden live in the Cullen home, Esme didn't mind having to redesign the place for one more. In fact, she probably would have enjoyed doing that, but she didn't want to push Jayden into that and she wasn't sure how well her family would take to that. Especially with Rosalie, not to mention Bella who frequented the Cullen home.
"I would actually prefer if you did stay close," Esme admitted through an embarrassed smile, unsure of how Jayden would react to that. She sometimes worried if maybe she was being too welcoming or overbearing. "And I'm sure the others would love for you to stay close," she added with more confidence.

Pulling out to the highway Jayden noticed that unlike others of their kind Esme seemed to preferred the more human speed when driving, just as she had when walking. The thought relaxed Jayden and made her feel more comfortable, not that speed ever truly scared her. Watching the scenery rush past the side window Jayden let her mind daydream, a little, about living in the houses she had picked out and living so close to humans and the Cullens. Her mind wandered rooms she was yet to see, painted walls she was let to assess and looked of windows she hadn’t even looked in yet.
As Esme pulled the car off the highway she heard the older woman speak and she smiled great at the words. To be wanted close by, to be welcomed; almost even accepted. Jayden was still smiling as she turned to Esme. “Thank you Esme.” She nodded. “I would like to be close too.”
Her eyes looked back out of the wind shield as one of the houses she had picked came into view at the corner. Set back form the road and partially obscured by trees. The house was smaller then the Cullen’s’ house, but to Jayden it was huge. Growing up with her father they had moved often their homes varying from one room to apartments to a simple house. But this would be here home, her own space; that made it more then anything before.
Glancing up at the house as the car stopped Jayden smiled. She had to stop herself jumping out and buying it right away reminding herself they had others to view. “What do you think Esme? Private enough?” Jayden knew she would not only value Esme’s taste in houses and decor, but also appreciate her opinion of privacy and safety.

Stopping abruptly in front of a nice, well proportioned and designed home. It was a beautiful place, the small and adorable front yard was perfectly landscaped and well kept. It had an attached two car garage, a perfect place for Jayden to keep her single vehicle and store any other items she may need to keep away, or she could even turn part of the garage into a separate little area. There were plenty of possibilities and options that Esme could help her go over if Jayden would want any assistance.
Esme turned to smile at Jayden beside her, tucking the car keys in her hand. "From the outside," Esme started, speaking honestly, "It looks perfect. Whoever owned it before definitely took a lot of pride in the yard and the exterior's appearance. Though, we haven't seen the inside of the house yet. Judging on the front yard alone I do have high expectations for the interior."
Pulling the handle of the door open Esme stepped out of the car, quickly adjusting her clothing so it was positioned perfectly against her cool skin. She closed her door, walking across the front of her car. She paused there and waited for Jayden, observing more of the front exterior of the first home. Esme did like it, it was the perfect size for Jayden. And there were no neighbors close by, it was hidden against a backdrop of pine trees that extended on both sides of the house. To get to the house you had to go down a nearly hidden paved road away from any subdivision. It was entirely secluded.
"I have to say you're probably safe from any humans happening upon your home," she called, "There is no reason that anyone should be traveling down the private road. You probably wouldn't have any problems. And if you did, we're close enough to get here quickly."
Esme started up the driveway and to the front door of the house, admiring the perfectly cobblestone paved pathway to the front door. Grateful that Carlisle was such a respectable member of the community she approached the front of the house, reaching a hand out to grasp the handle. In preparations for the house searching Esme had arranged with each Realtor and home owner of the homes she intended to show Jayden a plan to get into the house. She didn't want them to be there when she showed Jayden around, not wanting to cause Jayden any difficulty. So, the doors were to be left unlocked, but alarm codes set. Esme had received the code to each house and now had them ingrained in her mind, not needing to write them down.
"Ready to look at the first one?" Esme asked, pausing to glance at Jayden with a warm, expectant smile.

Looking up at the house Jayden listened to Esme’s assessment of the exterior and the location. It was beautiful; the garden, the house, the surroundings. And the location was perfect with the private access and it’s setting away from the road and other houses. Close enough to the Cullen House if she needed help. Jayden couldn’t help but feel comfortable by Esme’s reassurance of them been there for her. “Thank you, Esme” Jayden said again. It didn’t matter how many times she said it Jayden still wasn’t sure the woman and her family would realize just how thankful she was. “The house is beautiful and the location perfect. How did you find this place?” Jayden asked knowing that Esme must have spent a lot of time looking for the perfect properties for them to view. Resisting the urge to again thank the lady Jayden stepped out of the car.
The air was clear of Human sent as Jayden rose from the passenger seat and caught the scents in the air. There was animals close by, but nothing of interest to her especially as she had hunted just a few days before. Jayden wondered why she couldn’t catch the scent of the realtor; didn’t they usually accompany house viewings? The idea made her wondered as she followed Esme up the quaint path towards the house. Stopping behind Esme at the door Jayden returned her smile. “Yes I’m ready and excited, but where is the realtor or the home owner?” Jayden asked glancing around again, “Don’t they normally attend viewings?”
Listening to Esme as they entered the house Jayden was over come with the sights. The house was so light and bright, the neutral walls and floors would compliment what little pieces Jayden had perfectly. Moving ahead of Esme Jayden entered the kitchen a room which she knew was more of a prop for the Cullens, but a room she could put to use occasionally if she wanted. “Esme, it’s beautiful.” Jayden said turning to the other woman in the room. “I want to see them all, but this one seems amazing.” Jayden did want to view all the homes Esme had picked out and she tried not to fall instantly in love with this first choice. Each house would hold something for her, Jayden knew that, but which ever she picked would have to be perfect in all respects.

Esme grinned at Jayden, her hand reaching up to brush a stray hair from her face. Having lived in this area before, Esme was familiar with the various secluded properties. Not to mention that in her many years she had formed connections in the realty business.
"I have my ways," Esme comforted simply. She had spent time in choosing the perfect areas and houses for the new girl she had adopted as a friend. She would and had done the same at times for the others in her family. Jayden was no different and deserved only the best.
"I made arrangements ahead of time," Esme explained. Her voice wavered with uncertainty as she continued, "I hope you don't mind. I figured it would be a more enjoyable experience if it was just the two of us. I hope you don't mind."
Smiling proudly Esme silently followed behind Jayden as she explored the first of the homes they would view today. She admired the architecture of the home, inspecting everything in detail with her beyond perfect vision. It was a gorgeous and immaculate home. the design inside simple and neutral, leaving room for easy modifications in decor if Jayden wanted. Nothing that would require heavy hammering or a thick layer of primer.
As they entered the kitchen Esme's smile softened, listening to Jayden. She understood how she must feel. Viewing a house such as this, one that was seemingly perfect, made it hard to conjur and believe the possibility of others out there.
"Yes, this home is beautiful," Esme agreed. "I know it may be hard to believe, but there may be something more fitting for you elsewhere."
Walking across the room, gliding her hand along the smooth counter tops Esme thought of how this kitchen would be used if Jayden were to live here. There were a hundred possibilities in design for every room and her mind worked through various design pallets that she figured that would be fitting for Jayden. Though she wouldn't voice them unless asked, she found it enjoyable to create them in her mind.
"We have more homes you an fall in love with," Esme laughed, "We'll find you the perfect one."

Esme really seemed to have a head for property judging by this house and the Cullen house, the woman had impeccable taste. Jayden smiled back at Esme, she had become familiar with the family and even comfortable, sharing something like this was a special experience.
How could Jayden mind spending time alone with the Esme? The female vampire exuded maternal energy that drew Jayden too her like a magnet. “No I think it is a perfect idea.” Jayden smiled “It will certainly be more fun just the two of us.” Jayden said confidently, knowing the added pressure of humans would have weighted on both their minds.
Seeing the house Jayden instantly thought it was perfect, the one even. The location and architecture were ideal for someone like Jayden. And the décor was just her taste; neutral and light. Jayden let her mind wander quickly as she imagined herself in the house; she knew it’d be beautiful.
In the kitchen Jayden could see herself cooking. Although hybrids didn’t need to eat a lot of human food, replying mostly on blood, they did require some and Jayden enjoyed cook. The recipes she knew were picked up from books and the odd cooking show she had seen; an unusual habit her father had called it.
Jayden smiled listening to Esme mention the other homes, she knew it was a motherly way of telling her to look at all her options. “I’m sure I’ll find lovely qualities about all the houses we see.” She smiled glancing around once more. “It’ll be a hard choice I’m sure.”
As Esme moved about the room Jayden smiled and did the same. The room was spacious and well laid out. Whatever house she took Jayden knew furniture would be the next shopping trip. Another thing she admired about the Cullen house, all the antiques and fine furniture; though a little out of Jayden’s price range she was sure.
“Did it take you long to find the perfect home when you all moved here?” Jayden asked knowing it must be harder to find the perfect house with some many personalities to consider. Even after her short time visiting and knowing the Cullen family she knew that each of them was very different.

Esme smiled, relieved that she hadn't stepped on any toes in when she made the decision to have human company for today's browsing. Her natural smile grew as she watched Jayden. She looked so happy and excited, like a young child in a toy store.
As Jayden asked her question Esme's mind wandered through the expanse of memories; all crystal clear, as if they had occurred just then. Though there was much to consider when designing and choosing a house for their unusually large coven it was a task Esme was more than willing to do. Something she had enjoyed.
"It didn't take us long to find the home and location," Esme explained. "I knew as soon as I happened upon it the location of the previously worn home was perfect. It needed some work; some repairs and modifications to hold our large family. But I knew it was the one."
Esme slid her hand across the slick counter tops again, remembering the joy and expectation she felt when she had found the house her family now called home. She looked up at Jayden, a soft smile played across her lips, one caramel eyebrow quirked slightly.
"Why don't we check out the rest of the house?" she asked. She nodded her head slightly toward the entryway of the kitchen, urging Jayden to lead the way.

The excitement was building with ever sight Jayden took in, from outside she’d been happy at the sight of the place now it was so much more. Having never lived alone, the idea of her own home made her feel settle. The idea of having her own home also reminded her of the loss of her father and how much she missed him though she smiled through it. Today she wouldn’t let herself be dragged into the upset of memories.
Listening to Esme talk about her house search and her family distracted Jayden long enough for her to push all of her own memories away. She smiled listening to motherly figure as she talk of knowing when she’d found it, Jayden suspected this wasn’t Esme’s first house hunt when they’d started and now she was sure.
“I’m sure I’ll know too.” she smiled looking around the room they stood in and not feeling the emotion she’d imagine from finding just the one. Looking around Jayden wondered if perhaps renovation would help with the feeling. “Do you contract the work, or are one of the boys builders?” She smiled adding the a little joke and hoping Esme would see it as that.
“Sure.” Jayden nodded and smiled stepping towards the doorway and through it, she was eager to see what the rest of the house hold. “Perhaps somewhere more shaded would be better.” she said as they entered the sitting room with its large, open windows.
