Open to all the Cullens
As yet another box was opened in the kitchen Emmett cleared the back of the white sofa and landed grabbing the controller from the table and switching the table. There was a game on, he didn’t care whole but the last thing he was going to was watch a cooking show while the kitchen was starting to look like a cross between Rachel Ray and Hells Kitchen. In Emmett’s silent opinion Hell’s Kitchen would only continues to take over from the former.
Emmett zoned out on the game and tried to ignore the noise and commotion in the kitchen. Esme was preparing for this dinner party like it was a visit from the royalty. Carlisle couldn’t stop smiling. Parents; Emmett couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of them. It was Rosalie he was concentrating his thoughts on he knew anything to do with Bella would irritate her more. The idea of Bella in their house Emmett knew would really bring out the worst in Rosie. Not that he minded her more fierce side.
Edward was been so Edward about the whole thing and Emmett was just waiting for the chance to tease him about the Bella situation again. He never grew tired of irritating his little brother, nor did he run out of material.
Emmett focused his eyes on the game while his mind ran over the next round of humor he was going to unleash on his brother, a smile spread across his dimple pocked face.

Arms crossed, Rosalie stood in the bedroom that she and Emmett shared, her back towards the door that lead to the rest of the house. She was fuming silently at the activity in the house. Carlisle and Esme were preparing, Alice and Jasper were God knows where but would be frolicking in soon and even Emmett, sitting at the couch as if nothing were wrong. This was quite possibly the worse idea any of them could have conceived; bringing a human to their home. It tortured Jasper's control, compromised their secrecy and life in Forks and pissed Rosalie off to no end. She had already been scolded by all her family members to one extent or another, and somehow they had gotten her to agree to be there for Bella's visit.
She knew if she didn't move now, she wouldn't make it downstairs at all and probably upset Carlisle in the end. So she turn where she stood to open her door and breeze down the stairs to where Emmett was. "What are you smiling about?" she mumbled, knowing full well what he was grinning about. She loved him to impossible ends, but his cheery disposition about Bella was something she was starting to dislike more and more. She took a seat beside him, crossing her arms and legs and looked at the game he was watching.

Carlisle smiled brightly at his wife as he reached forward and changed the channel of the obscenely large kitchen TV to one of the multitude of cooking programs that littered day time television. He flicked quickly through the hundreds of stations that covered culinary practices and paused as the words ‘Italian’ and ‘cuisine’ infiltrated his hearing. The family had gone a little mad when food shopping, not having a single clue of what to make their human guest, and the kitchen resembled the aftermath of a bomb in a supermarket. They had enough stuff to feed an army, never mind one tiny human.
“Oh!” he commented, his smile curving up even further. He caught his wife up in his arms and pointed her towards the TV, holding her in a soft embrace. He felt so human! Putting on a remarkably accurate, if antiquated Italian accent, he added, “How about Italiano?”
He tilted his head, resting his cheek on the top of Esme’s head, trying to work it out from a human’s perspective. His thoughts wandered to the hospital, to some of the dietary advice and responses he had received. ‘Ah, c’mon, Doc, everyone loves a lil Italian!’ and there were all those adverts on the TV ‘Whensa yooour Dolmio day?’ with a happy (puppet) family sat around a table. Surely that would be alright for the human they were about to welcome. “Who doesn’t like Italian, eh?”
“It’ll give the kids a chance to help too,” he laughed a little, good naturedly, though his eyes slid from the TV to the open door to the other room. He had heard Rosalie enter and Emmett switch on the game. After the tense family conference that had taken place, most of his family had now come to terms with Edward’s relationship with Bella, but Rosalie was stubborn, to say the least. He hoped that she would find the cooking entertaining, that somehow she would reconcile Edward’s relationship with seeing her entire family so happy for him. She would certainly help, he knew Esme wouldn’t accept her rudeness when Bella was here, and this was supposed to be a family event.

Stress and anticipation flooded through Esme as she stood in the kitchen with her husband. She only wanted this to be the best for Bella, wanting to make her feel comfortable and welcome in their home, despite being in a home full of vampires. Esme had taken it upon herself to shop for every possible food item they could need, wanting all options on food choices open whenever a decision was made. Naturally going overboard, if they wanted to they could make every possible food dish known to man; American, Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. But, Esme wouldn't have had it any other way.
She returned the smile that Carlisle gave her as he flipped on the television, flipping through the many food channels, trying to find a dish they could make for Bella. She could hear the other two members of their family in the other room, and she desperately hoped that they would not embarrass her tonight.
She felt herself get wrapped in the warm, comforting embrace of her husband as she was turned to face the television. Her honey colored eyes briefly watched the screen of the television before the sweet sound of Carlisle's voice sounded in her ears, this time adorned with an authentic Italian accent. Had she not had remarkable hearing she probably would have lost herself in the sound, not being able to catch the exact words he spoke. "Italian sounds perfect," she agreed. "Hopefully Bella isn't one of the ones that doesn't," Esme added, worrying herself some more.
Esme sighed as Carlisle mentioned the kids. It was definitely going to be an interesting experience for all of them and she desperately hoped that no one would do anything to embarrass her or their guest. They had all gone over the relationship between Edward and Bella and had come to some form of an agreement. "Yes," Esme agreed, "Everyone will assist with this dinner."

Not turning as Rosalie sat down Emmett merely held up his arm along the back of the sofa, a clear invitation to come closer. She was mad already; he could tell without even looking at her. He didn’t need to ask about what, nor would he risk his neck asking. Bella would be the answer. Recently Bella and Edward were the answer for all of Rosie’s moods. She’d asked what he was smiling about and he knew that even answering the question risked aggravating her further so he merely shrugged without taking his eyes of the TV.
Emmett didn’t mind Bella, nor the dinner that was been prepared for her in the other room. He was a little baffled what Ed saw in a human, but Ed had always been a little strange. Emmett didn’t let much of what was happening faze him.
He could hear their parents in the other room and was sure he had just heard mention of all the family helping with the preparations. Having Bella to dinner was one thing; helping cook was not part of the plan as far as he was concerned. He wondered how he’d even know what to do. Emmett remembered little about his human existence but he was pretty sure he didn’t cook then and he wasn’t about to start now.
Turning quickly to Rosalie he spoke; “How about we head out? Fix the cars or head up stairs?” He said with his cherub grin hoping Esme wouldn’t notice their escape.

Carlisle breathed a small laugh at his wife’s nervousness and eagerness to please their first human guest and planted a soft kiss on her hair. So much like his Esme to worry that her efforts weren’t good enough for their guest. Bella knew about what they were, the restrictions on their diet and she probably wasn’t even expecting to be fed. It had, of course, been his wife’s idea to make her feel more welcome by cooking for her, only she could be so open minded and considerate of others to even think of it. Carlisle had become enthusiastic about her idea immediately, though that was about as far the enthusiasm spread. Alice and Jasper were elsewhere at the moment, but Rosalie and Emmett were less than eager to join in with welcoming Bella to the fold.
His strong arms squeezed her a little tighter as he felt her sigh heave in her chest. He wanted to comfort her, assure her that their children would do nothing to embarrass them, despite some of their reservations about Edward and Bella’s relationship. It wasn’t something he could force, of course, but he liked to think that their little family unit had enough respect and love for each other to honour what was good for a member of the family. He had met the Swan girl a couple of times himself in the context of hospital business and she seemed nice enough; or at least she was with a bump on her head. A smile curled on to his lips, which were still buried in Esme’s soft hair and he let go of her as the cooking program finished. They only needed to see it once to commit the recipe and methodology to memory and he let his wife go from his embrace.
“I’ll go get them then, we don’t have long!” he grinned at Esme and stalked out towards the couple sat in front of the television, catching them just as Emmett suggest they go upstairs. He set a jovial smile on his features and viewed the pair of them good naturedly.
“Actually,” he said, interrupting them before Rosalie could respond. “We could do with a little help in the kitchen. It would be a nice gesture for Bella and Edward.” He emphasised their brother’s name to highlight the fact that the human would not be the only one to feel uncomfortable in the house given the tense situation.

Still gazing at Rose Emmett heard the graceful, strong steps of his father’s approach. He knew what Carlisle was probably coming to get them for. Cooking and helping get the house ready to welcome Bella, it wasn’t that he didn’t like the little human his brother had taken a fancy too; she was ok. It was more that he wasn’t to keen on the mood the little visit was going to put his Angel in for the next who knows how many days. What Emmett wanted to do was head out to the garage for some work or upstairs for some fun.
As Carlisle spoke Emmett let his shoulders sag, but he continued to watch Rosalie’s face as their father asked for their help. The two names he used flowed together just as the names of any other couple in their family, yet he knew that would just anger Rose further. Using Edward’s name to coerce then was a low blow, but for Emmett it worked. Like all their family he and Ed were close, brothers and friends and if this little show would make him feel better Emmett would help and try to get Rose into it too.
“Yes Carlisle, just a minute.” He said without look over at their patriarch. He didn’t wait for him to leave before he addressed Rose. “We can help. It’ll make Esme happy.” Another guilt trip using a name and he hated doing it, but he knew she and Esme were close. “Come on.” Emmett stood with ease and grace and wait for his love.
“Where’s Jaz and the Pixie anyway?” He asked Carlisle as he headed towards the kitchen.

Carlisle didn’t linger as he noticed Emmett’s shoulders sag at his suggestion. He didn’t like that he had to make part of the family do something that they objected to, but whether he liked it or not, that was what being the patriarch of a family meant at times. Still, he would attempt to be firm about the situation and hopefully it would resolve in a peaceful, and possible beneficial manner – he still hoped that once they welcomed the human into their house they would be able to put their differences aside.
“Thank you,” he said, simply, turning back to the enormous kitchen and his wife. They were good kids, he had no need to doubt that and whilst Rosalie could be stubborn, her more open spouse did a lot to unruffle her, it was best to leave them to resolve their issues together. As the large boy moved through into the bright, open space, now filled with the mixing culinary smells and steam from boiling water, Carlisle smiled at him, pleased that he at least would help them in this endeavour.
He shrugged a little at his question, however. “I’m not too sure; I think perhaps it may have been time for a hunt. Hopefully they will join us later, though.”

Entering the kitchen Emmett gave Esme a jovial smile as he questioned his father on the whereabouts of his other siblings. Jasper was still a beginner to their diet and often needed to hunt more frequently then the others. Alice and Jasper, like the other couples in the family, were rarely parted so she would be with him.
Crossing the large kitchen Emmett came to a stop at the counter near Esme. “Nice cook wear, mom.” He smiled at her as he picked up a large pan and tapped it against his hand. “Went a little over board on the props huh?” He said with a smile as he nodded towards the large number of various boxes in the corner of the kitchen. Emmett knew without even looking that the normally empty cupboards were no doubt filled with various food for their human visitor.
Replacing the pan to the counter top Emmett rounded the counter and headed to the knife on the chopping board. “So, when’s Ed and the guest of honor arrive?” He asked striking the board lightly with the tip of the knife.

Her eyes had stayed on the television, though her attention was mostly on the sounds coming from the kitchen and Emmett's proximity. She didn't look at him at first, but couldn't resist his invitation to sit closer. Sliding over to lean against him, her face was still determined to look displeased. It slipped only slightly when he suggested that they sneak out of there, her eyebrow perking hopefully when she finally turned to look at him. She knew Emmett didn't mind Bella, she suspected that he would even like her at some point, but he always managed to try to make her feel better. Her face finally softened ever so slightly, and she was going to opt for the car option, but Carlisle beat her to the punch and walked into living room, gently suggesting to them that their participation was not optional today. Rosalie's face was stone and ice again as Emmett answered for her.
She fumed at Carlisle using Edward to guilt trip her. They argued a lot, but that's what siblings did. She loved Edward. But Emmett slipped the name that was more compelling. She knew the minute Edward admitted that he had fallen in love, Esme would be beside herself. Her relationship with Esme was one of the closest. Despite her adamant opposition to this, she loved to see her mother happy. "Fine." She glared at Emmett for a second before standing up and letting him lead her to the kitchen. She watched their mother and father bustle about the kitchen, and kept her distance as the others were active in the meal. She only smirked a bit when Emmett openly teased Esme.

Esme smiled up at Carlisle as he offered to go gather Rosalie and Emmett from the living room to assist them. Grateful that he was willingly assisting with the dinner plans. As he exited the kitchen she took that as her opportunity to go through the all the groceries she had scattered on the counters, sorting through what they would need and what they wouldn't. Moving easily around the kitchen she kept her ears attuned to the conversation going on in the other room; willing to force them into work if they argued, but knowing it wouldn't be necessary. They were all well behaved and rarely fought against what was asked of them, however, this situation was different.
Smiling, pleased when both Rosalie and Emmett had agreed to join the cooking party in the kitchen, Esme pulled some pots and pans from cupboards, quickly wiping the dust that had collected on the unused dishes. She was pleased that her adoptive children respected her and Carlisle enough to do what they were requested, unlike many of this day and age. Setting one of the pots in the sink she turned the water on, filling it up. Turning as the three of them entered the kitchen she returned Emmett's bright, enthusiastic smile with a warm, thankful smile of her own, reaching to the side to turn the faucet off.
"Thank you," Esme replied, carrying the water filled pot to the stove top, setting it down gently. "And I did not go overboard," she denied, "All of this is necessary." She glanced around the full kitchen, refusing to be swayed to think that all of it was a little much.
Flicking the burner on she answered Emmett's question. "Edward is supposed to bring her by later. I don't know if we have enough time to finish, but we're making Italian," she rambled nervously.

If it was possible for his kind to shiver Emmett would have with the icy glare Rosie shot him before following his lead in to the kitchen. Rosie was a cinder box constantly waiting to explode, luckily she never bore grudges too long and Emmett had his ways of breaking ever her most silent of moods. As Emmett entered the kitchen he instantly set about teasing his mother with her preparations hoping the his jovial nature would start to thaw out Rosalie before their guest arrived.
Emmett always reveled in the smiles he received form his mother. She had a face that could cheer and chide with a single look, the ideal mother and Emmett adored her, but he also loved teasing her as he did all his family.
“You have enough food to feed the whole family several times over, and the human is the only one who eats.” Emmett said teasing some more, though his estimations weren’t too far from the truth by the look of the food spilling from the cabinets. “Props are one thing mom.” He drawled, “But this is over kill.” He said using the word with ease not worried about the tension the word may induce, he trusted Edward not to kill Bella. And if he did he knew his brother would be wrack with guilt enough for all.
Time was something Emmett hadn’t worried about since his change they had eternity and their speed made everything quicker. Emmett couldn’t help, but smirk at the irony of making Italian. He doubted Bella was Italian, but he knew their enemies where; an observation he kept to himself. “I guess we,” He looked at Rosalie, “could help?” He nodded to her. “I’m a whiz in the kitchen.” He joked letting forth another laugh.

Carlisle remained in the background as he watched his adored wife begin to sort through the pots and the ingredients that they would need. A small smile played on his lips as Emmett and Rosalie joined them, his heart honestly warmed at the prospect of doing something so ordinary with those he loved most. However, it widened even further as Emmett began work on teasing his mother figure, knowing that Esme could take it and would be amused by it herself. Plus… his golden eyes flicked to Rosalie once or twice, knowing and sympathising with the fact that this must be hard for her, but also hoping that the normality of this situation would endear her a little to the idea of Edward and Bella being an item.
Cooking… Carlisle hadn’t cooked anything for centuries and the last time he had attempted it, it had all been open fires in the ovens, turning meat on a spit and this thing called ‘pasta’ was unknown. As such, he lingered towards the back of the kitchen, allowing those used to more modern methods to take charge. A wide smile graced his face as Emmett eventually offered his own and Rosalie’s help in the kitchen and he stepped forward, behind Esme and put his hands on her shoulders, squeezing them slightly as if they were tense.
“Alright then, I suppose we’d better get this show on the road,” his smiling amber eyes surveyed his two children and he leant his head down close to his wife’s. “I think you might be the boss, Esme. Give us orders, mighty hostess,” he turned his head and gave her a brief kiss on the temple, before turning his head back to Emmett. “That is if our son’s culinary genius will acquiesce to your instructions?”

As Esme stood in the kitchen, trying to remain focused on the task ahead, a small, amused smile turned the corners of her pale lips. She was used to the mannerisms of her family. Emmett's cool, sarcastic, and goofball attitude no longer phased her. It was natural, entirely Emmett. Just another thing to love about the burly vampire that had been adopted into their family.
"Well," Esme pondered, shrugging her shoulders slightly. Her light eyes glanced around the kitchen. It may have been a little much, she silently admitted to herself, but completely necessary. "Whatever we don't use can be donated I'm sure. And who knows, maybe Bella will be around more?"
Esme laughed lightly, shaking her head slightly in amusement. "Oh, I'm sure you are brilliant in the kitchen," she replied sarcastically.
Her eyes closed and her smile softened as Carlisle leaned into her, placing tender kiss on her skin. She inhaled his scent, something that was very familiar, but never got old. The moment was brief, only lasting a few seconds, but she never took them for granted.
She scrunched her face slightly, not sure of where they could start and all the steps that would need to be taken. "Well," she said quietly, going over what was needed, "I'm sure we'll be needed a salad, and the sauce still needs to be prepared. I have boiling water going for pasta now."

Speaking for Rosalie Emmett looked to his wife and offered her a dimpled smile of support and love, he knew it was hard for her even if he didn’t understand it. Emmett liked his brothers human girlfriend she provided him with endless material for jokes and teasing, but she also made Edward happy something he appreciated.
Watching his parental figures exchange a tender moment Emmett again looked for them to his own soul mate stepping closer to her to her offering her comfort. As his father whispered to their mother then spoke to him Emmett smiled brightly and shrugged. “Yea I guess I can listen to someone else in the kitchen, but you know I am a culinary genius.” He smiled broadly then laughed knowing that the rest of his family knew he knew nothing more about food then what he’d seen on TV.
Turning his attention to their mother figure Emmett nodded, I’ll chop, I’m good with knives at least.” He said stepping away from Rosalie after giving her a brief squeeze. “Right, what to chop first?” Emmett said flipping the knife in his hand as he question their mom.
