Edward heard her heartbeat change patterns again. He glanced over at her wondering how it was that nothing about her showed signs of the ordeal she had just been through, but her heart rate kept changing in rhythm. She was an odd one.
He smiled again as she mentioned using Pheonix as her next excuse. "Perhaps you should start dropping hints about that trip now, make your story more believable" He told her, knowing that the boys had questioned whether or not Bella's story about going to Seattle had just been an excuse to say no to them or whether she really already had plans.
He looked back over at her again as he saw her debating whether or not to tell him her thoughts. If he could only hear what she was saying without needing to ask her. "Oh..." He said finally as she told him her theory. "Do you spend a lot of time coming up with these theories?" He asked trying to brush it off, knowing that it was bad for him that she was this observant. Most of humans around them didn't even notice that their eyes changed colors, or if they did, just thought they were freaks for it.
"You're the one who shouldn't be so calm right now after what you've just been through. Why aren't you in shock or something?" He asked her.

Bella chuckled a little at Edward’s suggestion that she begin planning her get-out clause for Prom now. It was quite a good plan, actually, she needed to visit her mother at some point - she had never been away from her for so long. So much had been going on recently that she had barely given thought to the mother she used to take care of, but she did miss her.
She flushed violently as Edward questioned whether she had any other theories, an extremely guilty look upon her face. At least it had developed from radioactive spiders and kryptonite! Was that really a good thing if it had taken a turning towards vampirism? It was her discussion with Jacob Black at La Push that had really swayed her over to believing his old Quileute legends about the Cold Ones. It matched up so well with what she knew of Edward from the incident with Tyler’s van. She bit her lip a little, now wondering what would happen if she broke the skin, if a bead of blood forced its way to the surface - did she want to find out? Probably not. She stopped biting.
“If you weren’t such a darned enigma,” she complained at him with stubborn tones to her voice. A fraction of the frustration she felt when Edward didn’t keep the promise to talk about what happened in the crash returned. If he would just trust her! Couldn’t he tell that she wouldn’t say anything now? However, before she could suggest that he just told her what his great secret was, he commented on her calmness, which sidetracked her thoughts. It was a fair point, she supposed. She shrugged a little, gripping the sides of the seat as her eyes caught what the speedometer read.
“I’m good at pushing unpleasant stuff to the back of my mind,” she told him, her voice resounding with experience. Her eyes lifted to search the profile of his face as he looked out at the road. “And I feel safe with you.”

((OOC: Post #200 woohoo!))
Hearing her chuckle did wonders to help Edward relax. His concentration was more focused on her now and less on the violent acts that he wanted to commit out on the street. He was sure now that he couldn't go back. There was no way that he wanted to do anything to make her stop laughing. No matter what way he could think of, going back would scare her, or at the very least upset Bella.
He caught her guilty expression as he asked about her theories. So she had been thinking of more. It worried him that she might be getting closer to the truth with every day. But it scared him more that he almost wanted her to guess right so that she would know the truth about him.
"If you're still going off the radioactive spiders tangeant, you're getting colder with each thought" He told her, still amused by the superhero theories she had originally come up with. If only he could be the hero for her. That was the type of man she deserved.
Edward didn't like hearing that she was used to pushing unpleasant things to the back of her mind. That meant this wasn't the first time. She really did seem to be able to attract trouble. He frowned as she told him she felt safe with him. Why did she have to say that? How could she have seen his temper the way it had just been, ready to kill, and still say she felt safe with him. "You really shouldn't"

Bella flushed more, the embarrassment heating her up much more than the efficient fan heaters of Edward’s Volvo. How could she have ever even considered the Spiderman theory? Comics books were the first thing her mind leapt to when he had displayed heroics that icy day, they contained all the heroes, after all, but with everything she had seen and heard and investigated, the new theory held sway over any other.
Colder… she considered, her deep brown eyes scrutinising him once more. They fell to his white hands, gripping the wheel of the car, and she suddenly had the urge to reach out and touch them. She promised herself that if they were of the same icy coldness that she had experienced in biology, then her theory was true - she could prove it before she had to mention it to him! That would be perfect. Except there wasn’t much of an excuse for her to reach over ‘accidentally’ and brush against him. Her stomach flipped, strangely, as she imagined herself just reaching out and touching them, before pouring out his secret to him and - And then what? Her heart gave a little hiccough as her mind gave their relationship a whole new level.
Behave, Bella, she told herself, shrugging her shoulders in what she hoped was a nonchalant way and then spoke, with a miniscule amount of challenge in her voice. “Oh no, I took all the advice you gave me to heart…”
She trailed off, however, not having enough bottle to just blurt out the whole theory then and there. And she was suddenly aware that she was supposed to be keeping him calm, not inciting him by accusing him of being undead. Although that would certainly be distracting, whether he actually was a vampire or not.
Bella’s face fell a little as Edward told her that she shouldn’t feel safe with him, a sentiment that she had heard more than any other in the short time they had known each other.
“I do though,” she said, softly, aware that it wasn’t a conscious decision to trust him that made her do so, but a physical and emotional reaction to his presence. It was nothing she had control over. She had already accepted in her mind that her theory about vampirism was true and that still hadn’t stopped the complete self-assurance from coming over her when he was around. She had accepted the fact that he probably needed blood to survive, that he might even feed on humans, and yet still she couldn’t imagine running from him. Her eyes stirred from his form, latching on to the fluorescent display of the in car clock, not enjoying the air of tension that was encroaching on their journey.
“It’s half-six!” she announced, remembering poor Angela and Jessica waiting in the restaurant back in Port Angeles. She twisted to look out the window, but she didn’t recognise the surroundings, and it had already begun to get dusky. She turned back to Edward. “Jess and Angela are going to be wondering where I am.”

Edward looked at her suspciously as she told him she took his advice to heart. "Why do I think that you rarely take any advice given to you to heart, especially when its good advice" He told her, knowing that given what he knew of her so far, she seemed much more the type to do exactly the opposite of any advice given.
He noticed that she failed to mention whether or not she had any further theories. He would have to get that information out of her later. "So have you revised your spider theory to something else? I'm not an alien from another planet either."
Edward shook his head as she reaffirmed that she did feel safe with him. He wanted to let her words warm her heart but he needed to make her aware of just how stupid that safe feeling was. "That's not very smart....I have a problem with my temper as you just saw..." He said knowing that wasn't the worst of it, but hoping the reminder of his rage would be enough to keep her at a distance.
He nodded as she mentioned her concern for her friends. He remembered the restaurant he had heard Jessica mentioning when he had been looking for Bella and turned the car around. "I'll take you to meet them" He told her, heading towards the restaurant.

Bella shrugged her shoulders a little at Edward’s suspicion. She couldn’t deny that the majority of advice that had been given to had somehow fallen by the wayside, but she hadn’t meant to disregard it, she just trusted her instincts more than others’ words. Particularly when it came to Edward Cullen, so it seemed. She had taken his advice, but only to figure out his mystery, she had conveniently ignored the part that told her to stay away for her own good. She figured that would be a choice she could make later, and it wasn’t one she could see herself making.
“I only take into account helpful advice,” she told him, quietly, not wanting to argue the point. She liked to have her own mind, she wouldn’t allow anyone to influence it more than she wanted them to. She shot him a withering look as he enlightened her that he wasn’t an alien and shook her head a little. She almost broke her silence then, eager to blurt it out in order to save face, but she wasn’t entirely sure how much face she would save if she was off the mark again. Thus, she set her lips and shook her head again. “Needs refining,” she told him, flushing more.
She glanced up at him as he mentioned his temper and again she wondered whether her theory about his eyes should be scrapped or not. It had held up so well up to that point, but he had been so angry with what looked like concern for her. She leaned towards him a little, with the attention to reassure him and gave him a confident, faithful look. “I know you won’t hurt me…” Her words came out as a ghost of a whisper.

"I think you may have a problem in determining which advice is helpful to you or not" Edward told her, knowing that she would have been much better off taking his advice early on, but that was something that she had ignored. Her own safety and wellbeing never seemed to be a concern to Bella. He wondered if she ever even gave it a second thought. With as often as she seemed to be in trouble, or almost getting hurt, he would have thought she would have been much more aware of situations to avoid. But it appeared she wasn't.
"Maybe you shouldn't bother refining it and just stop trying to figure it out all together" Edward commented, though he knew before he even said the words that she wouldn't be giving up trying to figure him out anytime soon. He did wish he knew how close she was. With anyone else who had started questioning what the Cullens were, he always knew ahead of time when they started getting too close.
He frowned again hearing her blind faith in him say how she knew that he wouldn't hurt her. How could she see his anger, the way he had looked at her that first day in biology and still say she knew he'd never hurt her. "You don't know that..." He responded, knowing that she couldn't know that since he didn't know yet if he wold be able to stop himself from hurting her.

She shrugged a little in response to Edward’s doubt over her ability to determine useful advice.
“It got me this far,” she commented, softly, his insistence forcing her theories to the forefront in her mind once more. He was so determined that she should stay away from his, he had insinuated that he was ‘the bad guy’, the stories that Jacob had told her… the frigid temperature of his skin that day in biology. She ached to find out the truth, her curiosity and will to understand him massively overwhelming any fear she had of him. After all, hadn’t she already made her decision if it was true? It didn’t matter. He could be a vampire or the queen of Sheba and it wouldn’t matter to her. She continued to allow herself to watch him as he drove, zoning back in to register his new advice - to stop figuring him out altogether.
“Like that’s going to happen,” she told him, wryly. “It’s been one of my favourite pastimes these last few days.” It really had dominated her life recently. In fact, ever since she had met Edward Cullen he had dominated her life, from that fateful day in biology to her frightful attempts at flirting with Jacob Black, leading through to this night.
Her own brow puckered a little at his lack of faith in her certainty that he would hurt her. In reality she couldn’t explain how she knew that Edward wouldn’t hurt her. Maybe one day he would, but that didn’t dissuade her instincts from welcoming him with very open arms and an equally open heart. “It doesn’t matter,” she told him, keeping her voice soft as she began to recognise the buildings streaming past them. They were almost back at the restaurant where she had left Jessica and Angela.

Jessica stood anxiously with Angela looking around the streets. "Where do you think she could have gotten to by herself in the dark like this? Don't you think she would know that's SO dangerous. There's alot of like..creeps around here," she said to Angela, whether she was listening to not.
She watched the cars pass every few seconds and wondered if Bella had ditched them. She was going to be so mad if that was true. The only way she wouldn't be mad is if she had picked up an actual decent boy or something. THEN that would be a good excuse.

Angela's face was contorted up into a worried frown. She was filled with nerves about where Bella had gone, if she had gotten lost, or hurt, or attacked. Mostly Angela felt guilty. She never should have let Bella go off on her own. She knew how dangerous it could be walking around the city alone, and she also knew that Bella wasn't familiar with Port Angeles. Angela felt so selfish for staying at the dress shop instead of insisting that she'd go with her friend to the bookstore. Some friend she was.
"I hope she didn't get lost, she probably doesn't know her way around here" Angela said nervously as they looked around.

"How you got this far with your propensity for getting into harmful situations is quiet beyond me" Edward told her shaking his head. He worried about her constantly since encountering her. She didn't make it easy for him. Most humans found a way to get themselves in dangerous situations but she seemed to have a real knack for it, more than the others. He felt nervous anytime he wasn't aware of exactly where she was and that she was in fact safe. Tonight was proof that his worries were not without warrant.
He gave a bit of a frown as she told him that coming up with these theories had been a favorite passtime of hers lately. He doubted at this point that there was anything that he could say that would further deter her from these endeavors.
Edward pulled up to the side of the curb a little ways down from the restaurant where Bella was to meet her friends. There was no parking immediately in front of the restaurant. He smiled turning off the car realising that Jessica and Angela had already ate, maybe he could still have some more time with Bella alone. He got out of the car and got to her door before she had time to get out. He opened it for her, having his jacket already off to hand to her, remembering she had been cold earlier. "Take this"

Bella looked down at Edward mentioned her ability to find herself in bad situations, a thought suddenly occurring to her. “It never used to happen, in Phoenix,“ she told him, feeling guilty for being on her line of thought, but also compelled to share it with him. She shifted a little uncomfortably. “Have you ever thought that maybe my number was up that day with Tyler and the van?” suddenly the ridiculousness of what she was saying struck her and her mouth curved into a smile. “Now fate’s trying to get me back into its clutches.”
She looked down to pop open her seatbelt as Edward drew to a stop a short way away from the restaurant. She was almost sad to be getting out of the silver Volvo, sure that this would be it - he would just get back in and drive away, then she might see him at school. She moved slowly to try to prolong the moment, and jumped as her door suddenly opened at her side. And there he was, opening the door for her, so gentlemanly that it almost made her heart stop, but sad as well, because she knew their little meeting was coming to an end. It wasn’t like she could protest against it and make any sense, though, so she stepped out of the car, trying to be as graceful as she could, but feeling like an elephant. She couldn’t stop herself from sighing as she stood up to her full height, impossibly and impeccably close to Edward. Her heart skittered a little.
“Thank you,” she said, her voice emerging as a shy whisper, despite the fact that they had been chatting away for a good while in the car. She didn’t move for a moment, just looking at the jacket swinging before her eyes. She couldn’t believe her luck at all. She reached out and took Edward’s jacket, slowly putting her arms through the holes, her heart beginning its erratic stutter as it registered what was happening. She bowed her head as she stepped forward, sneakily taking in some of his glorious scent. She almost felt drunk as she began to walk towards the restaurant and half-wondered if she was swaying across the sidewalk. “You’re a gentleman, Edward,” she told him, her voice still low and shy, filled with the foreboding that assumed he was about to leave.

Edward's expression turned very serious as Bella spoke of her number being up the day with the van. Could she really have been so oblivious to the danger that she had been in before that. Yes the van may have hit her but there was a chance she may have survived it. If Edward had been the one to attack her, she never would have stood a chance. "Your number was up long before the incident with the van" He said, refraining from saying anymore, knowing it would give too much away.
"You're welcome" Edward replied closing the door behind her as she got out. He thought she looked almost saddened as she got out. He wondered if the reality of the dangerous situation she had just been in was finally getting to her.
Edward walked beside her, as close as he dared getting without being afraid of scaring her. He knew she had started to have suspicions about him, and after seeing the way he reacted to those men, he knew it was likely she'd be afraid if he was too close now. But just as he was thinking about how she should be inching away from him, she called him a gentleman. "Thank you...its how I was raised" He responded.

The smile that had graced Bella’s face as she had realised the stupidity of her own words, slowly fell away at Edward’s intensely serious expression. She had expected him to laugh off her comment, not fill it with a dread that made her nerve endings tingle. She couldn’t help but gasp a little as he mentioned his ominous words, her precarious hold on life during that biology lesson, as her mind immediately inserted the new knowledge into her increasingly wild theories. She turned to look at him with wide, brown eyes, now turning her whole body towards him, balancing herself with one palm on the edge of the seat.
“You- Oh…”
A more unhelpful response you couldn’t get, but it was all she could muster as she realised just how dangerous he was. He wasn’t idly warning her all those times he tried to distance himself, he was actually a danger to her life. She drew in another breath, though her system had already calmed, already reconciled itself with the new information. She still couldn’t force herself to be scared of him.
She turned to smile, gratefully, at him, her steps automatically taking her closer to his side before she realised it. She wrapped an arm around her waist, pushing the jacket closer on to her form, sending a fragrant waft of vampire scented air up to her nose. She cast a gentle smile at him as he accepted her compliment and wondered about just when he was raised.
“It’s nice; I like it,” she said, quietly. She looked up at the restaurant they were approaching and raised her hand in greeting to Angela and Jessica, who she could see waiting for her, she assumed. A hot blush spread over her cheeks as she wondered how she was going to get out of this one.

Edward averted his eyes from her in shame as he knew she must be realising that he had been referring to their first class together. He had seen the murderous look on his own face reflected in her eyes. It was what had stopped him. But it also meant she had seen that look. She had to know, somewhere inside her, just how deadly he was. And that being with him wasn't very safe for her. But yet she still was here, and wasn't running. Saving her from 4 humans in an alley didn't make up for almost killing her in Edward's mind. Nothing ever really would, not when he knew the intent and desire was there for him. He shook his head needing to put aside those thoughts, to keep this evening more relaxed for her, still expecting her to go into shock at any moment.
As they walked up to meet with Jessica and Angela who were already waiting outside he looked over at Bella seeing that she hadnt thought through her excuse, and also hearing from her friends' minds that they had already eaten. Perhaps he really could find a way to extend their evening together.
"Please don't blame Bella" Edward started, before either of them had a chance to ask her where she was. "We ran into each other, and just got to talking and completely lost track of time" He said giving them both an innocent yet apologetic smile. "You two have probably already eaten, but if Bella's hungry I'd be glad to get her something and drive her home so that you two don't have to wait...if you would like me to Bella" He said turning to her. She had the chance now if she wanted to get away from him, and escape the anger she had seen in his eyes earlier. He wouldn't blame her at all if she decided to go back with her friends. But he also couldnt help hoping that she'd agree to stay with him.
