"Bella!" Angela exclaimed relieved as she saw that her friend was alright. She had been so worried, an felt guilty for having let her go off by herself. Even though Bella had been insistent, Angela knew that as her friend she should have gone too. She hoped Bella would forgive her. Angela looked over beside Bella, Edward Cullen had shown up with her. Angela gave the gorgeous boy a shy smile. Angela had remembered seeing the way Bella had looked at Edward during lunch. She thought she might have liked him, and if this was any indication of things, it looked like he liked her too. Good for Bella! Angela hoped things worked out for her. Bella was such a sweet girl.
"No, its okay, I'm just glad you're alright Bella' Angela responded as Edward apologized for keeping her. Angela wished they had at least waited to eat, but Jessica had been insistent that they eat without her. "I'm sorry we already ate..." She said biting her lip nervously with an apologetic look. Angela looked over at Edward as he graciously offered to stay with Bella and drive her home. Angela wondered if Bella might actually prefer it that way to having dinner with her and Jessica. Angela looked over to Bella, giving her a look that was clear that Angela would be happy to let her stay with Edward if that's what would make Bella happy, but that if she needed saving from his offer to give her the slightest hint and she'd make sure Bella went home with her and Jessica instead.

Still musing over the exchange that had just occurred, wondering what it meant, about how right her theories were, Bella wandered at Edward’s side towards her two girl friends, a bashful smile adorning her lips. She knew what this looked like, and she didn’t want to explain to them that she was almost the victim of crime before Edward had shown up. Happily, however, Edward took the burden of explanation away from her and she looked up at him gratefully, an expression which soon turned to a delighted surprise as he offered to buy her dinner. That was almost a date-worthy task! Not that she should be thinking about such things, given the current predicament she found herself in, on the cusp between ignorance and knowledge. She couldn’t help it, though, and it made her heart thud erratically. Her brown eyed gaze flicked from Edward to Angela and Jessica and back up to the vampire again.
“Oh, if you guys have already eaten, I’ll be fine eating with Edward,” she offered, looking very apologetic. “I’m sorry for worrying you – we really did just lose track of time.”
She grinned up at the bronze haired Adonis once more, this time a cheeky slant to it, which would be all Jessica would need to leave the gossip alone for now. Or at least she hoped so; the mere suggestion of a budding relationship was usually enough for Jessica to explode with excitement, surely she would wait until the next day to get all the hot gossip? She blushed at Angela’s kind words, knowing that she very almost wasn’t, not that she would ever admit it. Just imagine if Edward hadn’t shown up, it wasn’t worth thinking about. She held her hands up in an open gesture, smiling kindly at Angela.
“Oh no, no, don’t worry about that – I’m incredibly late. I probably would have eaten myself, if I was in your shoes. Really, it’s fine, no worries,” she caught her friend’s gaze and purposely showed her calmest expression to show that she was perfectly comfortable with the Cullen boy. She even snuck in a half smile to show that she would like to spend time with him too. Goodness knew how she was going to explain this the next day, but she would cross that briar covered bridge when she came to it! “I’m sorry; I’ve kept you both too long already… I’ll be alright, Edward will keep me right.”
She looked up at the tall boy with a gentle grin, almost dancing with excitement at this unexpected opportunity to spend some more time alone with him.

"No its okay, I'm glad that was all it was" Angela said, grateful that her friend had just lost track of time with a classmate instead of having gotten lost or something worse in Port Angeles. Even seeing Bella alright, Angela knew that if they came here again, she'd never let her just wander off alone again. It wasn't the right thing to do as a friend, they should stick together, safety in numbers. But at least this time it seemed to work out well.
Angela smiled as she watched Bella with Edward. The way she kept looking at him gave Angela no doubt in her mind that this was where Bella wanted to be. She thought the two of them were incredibly cute and was happy that the boy Bella seemed interested in also seemed very interested in her. She was even happen for Edward, who had always seemed a bit lonely over in his table of paired up siblings. She really hoped the two of them would be happy and hit it off tonight.
"Okay, well if you're sure, I guess I'll see you tomorrow Bella...Edward" Angela said, she said taking Jessica's hand before she would have a chance to say anything to ruin Bella's rude right now and pulled her gently to the car which was parked across First street.

Thankful that Angela and Jessica both seemed to be appeased by her comfort with Edward’s company, a slow blush began to steal over Bella’s cheeks. She knew how this looked, and she could be blamed somewhat for perpetuating the impression. She also couldn’t help but wonder what her new companion’s opinion was on the matter, though she would get to the elusive truth about him before she got to something as inconsequential as herself. She grinned at her two girl friends as they said their farewells and crossed the street towards Jess’ car.
“Bye, guys. See you tomorrow…” she turned at Edward’s side as she watched the two of them climb into the car and raised her hand to wave them off. This distraction gone, however, her mind returned to the one track that retained its interest and her brown eyes returned to the magnetic Edward Cullen. A small, unsure smile showed at the corners of her mouth as she took a step towards the restaurant.
“Dinner?” she asked, not entirely sure how this would factor into her theories – would he eat? Was she completely off the mark? Maybe she was completely wrong; well, no, she knew there was definitely something supernatural about him, but what if it wasn’t vampires at all? She shook her head a little in an attempt to banish the new tangent; it had been hard enough to stick with the vampire theory, and she didn’t want to start confusing herself now that she was on the cusp of finding out whether she was right or not.

Listening to the thoughts of Bella's friends, Edward was liking Angela more and more. The shy girl really seemed to show concern for Bella, worrying about leaving her, feeling relieved to see she was alright and looking out for her safety with Edward. She was a good friend for Bella to have. Edward would definitely have to find away to thank her, to find something that he could get for her.
He nodded as she questioned about dinner, he wondered if she hadn't believed his offer was real, or just doubted about his diet. She didnt seem to be afraid that she was the dinner (even though he knew she probably should have that fear).
"Yes, you need to eat. You've been through quite an ordeal, before you completely go into shock and pass out on me, we'll get something in your stomach" Edward insisted, not about to take no for an answer on this. She had told her friends she'd stay with Edward which meant he was now responsible for keeping her safe and getting her home that way.

The smile on Bella’s face widened slightly as Edward nodded to her question about dinner, though he didn’t really give away what he thought of the concept, but she guessed that she would find out soon enough. Maybe he would just order a really rare steak or something… she shrugged inwardly, not giving thought to his exact diet for the moment. There were so many other things to consider! She looked almost exhilarated, nothing like a girl that had just been in a life-threatening situation and one that was almost certain that she was in the presence of a mythical and potentially threatening being.
“Oh,” she began, looking up at Edward as he mentioned shock and getting food into her system. She really knew that she was fine now, no shakes, no residual fright, she was just really, incredibly curious. “Really, I’m fine, I’m not hungry, but…”
She caught his eye properly and felt her throat close up, but rather than in fear it was due to an overwhelming surge of attraction. She swallowed, quickly, blushing down to the roots of her hair – so embarrassing. She inhaled, trying to restore her sense of mental balance as her heart thudded out of her ribcage, taking in more of his sweet scent. “But okay, I guess I’m thirsty…”
The swallow had really shown her how dry her throat actually was, probably due to the earlier situation, so even if she just got a soda out of this, it would be worth it to spend the time with Edward Cullen. She stepped forward into the restaurant to be met almost instantly by an attractive looking twenty-something year old waitress. A strange wave of satisfaction went through her as she noticed the bemused look on her face to see her with Edward, knowing that her plainness was never usually seen with such extraordinary beauty. From the time that her eyes had met with Edward’s face, however, Bella became invisible to the waitress as she showed them to a table in the middle of the most crowded area of the place. Clearly she wanted Edward in her view and in the customers’ view at all times – good for business. It made Bella’s heart sink a little, however, as she realised that there was no chance that they could actually talk in this environment. Her brown eyes rose to Edward’s face, wondering if this was what he had in mind to avoid the truth. She didn’t think she would be able to stand going back to the way things were now – the odd stand offs of stubborn quietness. She needed to know.

Edward gave a small grin as he watched the smile on Bella’s face widen, pleased by his assurance that his offer for dinner was real. But then as she spoke a minute later of not being hungry, his grin disappeared and he looked at her curiously. It really was frustrating with her not knowing what she was thinking. Did she or didn’t she want to remain in his company? Did she want dinner or was he forcing his continued presence on her. He figured this is what most men went through, trying to figure out the puzzling mystery that was the female mind.
“If you’d rather not stay…” He started quietly, though still thinking it would be best to get her some food. She then mentioned that she was thirsty and he decided even if she didn’t eat much at least she’d be hydrated. “Okay, good…and humor me about eating” he said, returning a light grin to his face.
Edward moved aside, to allow Bella to walk into the restaurant first. They were quickly met by a waitress who’s thoughts immediately entered Edward’s mind as she took notice of his appearance and his company. As the woman’s thoughts started thinking poorly of Bella, believing their was no way he could be with her, his gaze turned into an icy stare. If she knew what he was she’d be thinking there was no way someone like Bella could be with a monster like him.
The table the waitress brought them too almost seemed insulting, in the busiest area of the restaurant. Edward reached into his pocket and pulled out a fifthy, folded neatly into his hand. He held out the bill holding it between two fingers. “Perhaps something more private”

Bella’s brown eyes widened a little as she realised that it did sound like she didn’t want to be there with Edward when she denied being hungry. She hadn’t intended it like that, not in the least. She could think of nothing better than to get him alone, to maybe have the opportunity to quiz him further about him, a subject that he avoided so well. She returned the light grin, her blush intensifying a little as she received Edward’s. Humouring him about eating would be no problem whatsoever.
As she walked through into the bustling restaurant, led by the waitress, she couldn’t stop herself from sneaking looks up at the potential vampire, struck the beauty of every angle. She had noticed the gaze in his eye turn icy, which had been followed by the waitress’ quick ushering to the busy table. Bella could remember the intimidating intensity of that look and for about half a second she felt some sympathy for the older woman.
She put her pale hands on to the chair back, with the intension of sitting down, disappointed about the table, but that was life. However, before she managed to do so she heard Edward’s refusal. She looked up at the two of them, hiding the surprise she felt, though the waitress’ ‘sure’ sounded as shocked as she was. She didn’t think anyone refused tables in restaurants outside of movies. Tucking her chair back in, she turned to follow the waitress to one of the booths towards the back of the room, each one partitioned off from the other. This was much better!
“How’s this?” the waitress asked, gesturing widely at the relative forest of empty booths. Bella kept her eyes on Edward, not presuming to accept the table when she hadn’t been the one to refuse the last (even if she would quite like to have done if the thought has occurred to her).

As they were led to their first table Edward saw Bella's hands move to the chair, ready to sit down. She was so accepting of the table, not one to really complain about much. Edward didnt find the table acceptable, mostly because of the waitress' reasoning for it. Had it been the only table left, he would not have minded, but her assumption that they didn't need privacy because Bella wasn't good enough to be with him? That was ludicrous and insulting. He wouldn't stand for it. Bella deserved the best table in the house. And he was sure she still had more questions to ask him, even if he couldn't hear it in her thoughts.
Edward allowed Bella to walk ahead of him once more as they followed the waitress to the second and more private table. Definitely more suitable. He gave a slight glance to Bella to make sure she wouldn't have preferred to be surrounded by a crowd, as so many humans thought it was safer that way, but she seemed not to mind the booth.
Edward nodded as she asked how these tables were. They were partitioned off from both each other and the rest of the restaurant. This was much better. "This will be fine. Thank you" He told her politely, looking to Bella for confirmation and allowing her to take her seat before he did, as a proper gentleman did.

Bella smiled at Edward as he turned his attention back to her when they were at the booth. She hoped that the smile conveyed her gratitude for standing up to the waitress and getting them this much more private booth, where she could actually have it out with him. Or at least she hoped that she would at least get to the bottom of something of his enigmatic self that night. She wasn’t entirely sure when or if she would get another chance like this and she certainly wasn’t going to let it slip through her fingers.
Sitting down, she watched as the waitress stumbled off towards the kitchen after having been treated to one of Edward’s most alluring of looks. She knew exactly how the waitress felt, even just imagining it made her breathing grow shallower and that was just a dim memory compared to the real thing. She looked at him critically and shook her head a little now that they were alone.
“You really shouldn’t do that to people, you know,” she told him, with a slight flick of a grin to show that she wasn’t altogether serious. “It’s hardly fair, dazzling them like that. She’s probably hyperventilating in the kitchen right now.”

Edward was glad to see the smile on Bella's face, showing him that she approved of their new table, or at least didn't disapprove of his suggestion of moving it. Not hearing her thoughts made it difficult for him to assess her preferences in any given situation. But in his mind, the other table had been an insult. He knew the hostess' reasons behind giving it to them and was ready to show her that Bella deserved more. Bella was perfection to him.
Edward happily watched the hostess walk away again, having happily gotten the best seat in the house for her. He turned to Bella hearing her voice and looked at her with a bit of confusion. "Do what to people?" He asked her, then raising his eyebrows as she said that he was dazzling people, like the waitress. It was true, she hadn't exactly looked frightened as she ran off...but dazzled? He'd never thought of it that way.
"I dazzle people? " He said questioningly, finding it interesting that she would think this. The curiousity got the best of him, cocking his head slightly to the side. "Do I dazzle you?"

Bella's smile turned into almost a smirk as she heard Edward question his ability to dazzle as if he hadn't noticed it before. She wondered how he had gotten through life so far without noticing the way that things (well, mostly people and mostly girls) just turned out for him. Okay, so maybe if he was a vampire then he had had some rough times, but she was willing to bet that his looks and charm had always paved his way for him... if it worked like that. She needed to know more about him.
"What, did you just think that everyone got their way so easily?" she asked with a grin, leaning her elbows on her table, slipping off the edge and regaining her balance all within a few seconds and fragility. She shot a glance at Edward hoping that he hadn't noticed her clumsiness, though that was pretty unlikely. Looking demure for a second, she nodded her head lightly as Edward questioned his effect on her. "Frequently," she admitted.
A moment later their server walked up to their table, looking sufficiently flushed, which made Bella think that the hostess had dished out all on the hottie that had just walked into their restaurant. She flipped back a strand of short black hair behind her ear and smiled with unnecessary warmness, directing her attention to Edward and failing to temper her thoughts of his appearance.
"Hello, my name is Amber and I'll be your server tonight. Can I get you anything to drink?" she asked, focussed completely on Edward as if Bella wasn't even on the planet, never mind at the same table.
Bella looked across the table at Edward, catching his eyes. "I'll have a coke?" she almost asked, not even sure why she made the statement like it was a question.
