"I'm sure you'll be able to find one" Laurie told her, confident in her abilities. He knew that if he had any job openings, he'd hire her. He'd hire her immediately for the job of his girlfriend, but he was sure that something like that would never happen. It was inappropriate on so many levels. He was older, he was her physician, and he knew her situation and felt like he would be taking advantage of her, yet still he had feelings for her he didnt want to ignore. She was the first girl since Amy who he had even looked twice at. He felt something strong towards her, and he knew it was more than a doctorly compassion.
"You're a smart woman, and you seem friendly enough, I'm sure you'll find something good and be on your way to the top. I'd hire you" He told her with a smile hoping he didnt come off as some creepy older guy trying to buy her.
"It is" Laurie agreed as she said how it must be hard for him having his sister so far away. "I dont talk to her as much as I'd like, but hopefully now that I'm settling I'll be able to keep in touch more regularly" He said, taking on the responsibility, knowing that as the older sibling he should have made more effort, despite his busy schedule (and the drama back in New York)
Laurie's eyes lit up in a smile as Matt joined his laughter, loving seeing her at such ease and happy, the way she should always be, and such a drastic change to how she was when they met. He wanted to keep her that way. He watched the way she reacted to his compliment, a little shyly but smiling, and he hoped that was a good sign, that she knew he meant it for her, and she wasn't offended by it either.
He smiled back at her as she told him they could do with someone like him around, as could Forks. "I'm hoping to have the chance to continue working in both places" He told her, thinking that it sounded like she enjoyed having him around as well. He was nervous, but knew if he didnt go for it when she gave him a sign, even the smallest bit of encouragement, he'd chicken out and regret it for the rest of his life.
"This is probably inappropriate...and I dont want you to feel pressured at all to say yes...but do you think I could see you again sometime, after today?" He asked her, feeling his heart pounding and immediately thinking he'd made a fool of himself and she'd see him as a pervert, being that she was still in high school. " There's no obligation, we can forget this part of the conversation if you want...in fact maybe we just should, I've probably made you uncomfortable..."
