Things happen for a reason. Time waits for no one. Love finds you when you’re not looking for it. How many more clichés would fly through Kate’s head as she thought over what exactly was happening to her? She wondered when she’d gotten so selfish too. Here she was in the Cullen’s house, helping them prepare to face the self proclaimed rulers of their species and all Kate could think about was Garrett and what she was feeling for him. Garrett the handsome, rugged nomad who had turned up out of no where and Kate was hooked. All of this was so new to Kate, sure she’d liked men before, but what she was feeling towards Garrett was a whole new emotion.
The moon was not yet full as Kate broke the cover of the woods and headed towards the Cullen house with her advanced hearing she could already hear the voices from inside the house; each snatch of conversation that drifted towards her carried the same words; Volturi, Nessie, soon. Every voice held the same tone of worry. Kate had left the company behind a few hours earlier and headed out to hunt and clear her head yet now she returned with her thirst sedated, but he mind still clouded with him. Entering the house by the back door Kate glanced around briefly to see if Garrett was in the room, though she knew he wasn’t Kate could already recognize his scent and it was absent here.
The Denalis, like the Cullens, were all very close and Kate valued each greatly but right now entering the house she was seeking out one sister in particular; Carmen. The beautiful Spanish vampire, along with her mate, was the latest addition to their coven and a welcomed one. The love Carmen and Eleazer had for each other was the beacon that gave Kate hope that Carmen could help her figure out the feelings she was having for Garrett. Why now, when her mind should be concentrating on the attack? All her mind was concentrating on was Garrett, his smile, his hair, his eyes.
Following the scent she knew to be Carmen’s Kate crossed the room and began to climb the stairs towards Carlisle’s study. Approaching the door Kate raised her hand and knocked lightly, “Carmen, its Kate.” She said though she knew her sister would have caught her scent, “Can we talk for a moment?”

Carmen had been alone in Carlisle's study for over an hour now, just like when she had been at the Volturi herself, she had been drawn to the quiet room that held so much. Of course, she had sought the blond vampire's permission first, which he had only been too happy to give. As she looked down at the medical journals that littered his desk she wondered just hot he was strong enough to do what he did - she doubted that she would even have the ability to attend the high school like the youngest Cullens did. No, perhaps Carlisle and his family did good to the humans in their community, but Carmen was satisfied with how they, the Denali coven, lived, there were less chances of mistakes there.
Almost before the first knock sounded Carmen's toffee coloured eyes swept over to the hard wood door, a curious expression on her face. She wondered what her sister would want with her - Nessie was asleep, the rest of the household was still, so there was no emergency. She didn't have to wait long to find out, though, as Kate's beautiful voice filtered through. With the preternatural speed that she was gifted with, Carmen raced to the door and pulled it open, a soft, welcoming smile on her face.
"Of course, Kate," she said, her accent thick in her throat. "I am sure that Carlisle will not mind us using his study... hábleme."
She returned to her seat behind the desk, pulling her long shawl closer around her shoulders - she had been watching how the Cullens moved and acted so human and she was seeing if she could pull it off herself. "Is there something wrong, ma Katrina?"

The closeness of her family always assured Kate that she was not alone, and feeling like this she knew Carmen would be the sister to speak to. Matters of the heart were certainly Carmen’s forte; she and Eleazer were certainly a couple united by heart. Standing outside of the door to Carlisle’s study Kate felt a little foolish, at her actual age she would have expected to be able to deal with this sort of thing; not to mention at a better time.
The smile on Carmen’s face as the door opened set Kate at ease; her sister always had a calming effect on most everyone. Returning the smile Kate then followed Carmen into the room. The study was typically Carlisle that much was clear from a single glance, from the art work to the medical documents on the desk. Even been a male’s room Carmen still seemed to fit and appeared comfortable.
Crossing the room Kate stopped by the seat Carmen had seated herself in; Kate smiled as Carmen moved the shawl around her shoulders, a move reminiscent of a human. This visit was turning into a new experience for all of them it seemed; a learning experience. Was something wrong? Was it wrong? Kate didn’t know how to answer such a simple question. Every part of this feeling had her confused and happy and worried; everything at the same time.
“I don’t know, but I do and it’s all so confusing.” Kate said with an exasperated, but no exaggerated sigh. “It’s the nomad Garrett; he is so confusing to me yet so compelling.” Kaye admitted feeling no shame in been honest about her feeling with her sister. The Denali coven like the Cullen family was unusually close and hid very little from each other. “Carmen, I can’t stop thinking about him.” This revelation wasn’t knew to Kate’s mind, but the acceptance and admittance of it, was completely new.

Carmen tilted her head a little as she waited for Kate to approach, that soft smile remaining on her lips as she wondered what could be the matter with her sister for her to approach her in such a formal manner. She felt no need to harry the girl for the information, however, as she knew that they were close enough as sisters for the blond girl to confide in her in her own time. As it stood, they were in no rush, the Volturi would not appear that night, nor were they expecting anymore visitors for little Nessie and so she sat patiently. However, she was not destined to wait long for Kate’s response and as she heard the uncertain words finished with an exasperated sigh, Carmen’s eyebrows rose a little in concern. It was not like the other woman to be so confused – it wasn’t like any of them these days, they were all so old, so experienced in almost everything.
Leaning forward, over to her sister, she put a delicate, slightly olive complexioned hand on to her knee as a gesture of comfort. Whatever her sister was going through, Carmen hoped that she knew that she would be there for her, and she also hoped that was the reason that Kate had come to her now. However, from the mention of the nomad, Garrett, the small, sympathetic smile on Carmen’s face grew a little. She knew this, and it was nothing to be concerned about, so long as the feelings were reciprocated. She had not felt that way about Eleazar long before she discovered that he felt the same for her, but she did remember the confusing, tormented feelings of desire, love and hopeless wondering until they spoke about their feelings for each other.
“Kate!” she exclaimed, happily, though her voice did not rise so much as to disturb the rest of the household. “Ma Katrina, but I think you might have an inkling about what this is, sí? Though it can be confusing… And this Garrett, have you spoken with him?”

Carmen would have made an amazing mother; Kate knew it was those instincts, emotions and feelings that made her a great leader and sister. Even before Carmen spoke of Garrett her face reassured Kate that she wasn’t wrong in what she was feeling for the sandy haired nomad.
“I don’t know what to tell him, Carmen.” She said in an exasperated tone that seemed out of place in Kate who was normally so calm and collected in her thoughts and feelings. “Everything about this situation is wrong. My thoughts should be on the impending witness not away dreaming about some boy who is so different from us.” Kate said trying to rationalize feelings she had already deemed irrational.
Garrett was a vampire yes, but he was a nomadic vampire who did not share their way of life. Kate knew that in itself should have persuaded her that this venture was foolish and pointless, but no matter how many times she told herself this she still didn’t believe it. It was hat confusion and doubt that had lead her to seek out her sister whose head and heart always seemed in sync with each other, and whose heart had lead her to Elezare and then to their family.
Laying her hand one top of the pale olive one on her knee Kate squeezed it slightly. “It is hopeless, yet I can’t give up. I feel pulled to him, even now.” She said giving Carmen a look more suited to a confused teenager then an aged woman like herself. “Everything about him raptures me and I like it.” Kate said admitting it to herself as much to Carmen. She enjoyed the nomad’s company and kept his loss even in a moment of absence, Kate knew she was hopelessly lost to him and that scared her. Fear was a feeling Kate hadn’t felt in a very long time, but since arriving to help her extended family she felt it a lot.

Carmen’s finely boned face shifted as Kate announced her difficulty in knowing what to tell this nomad that she had unexpectedly developed feelings for. It rounded a little, her eyelids dropping in understanding and a small smile poked at the corner of her mouth. It was an age old conundrum, that was for sure and she wasn’t entirely sure that even in the most normal of human circumstances that the conversation would trip easily from anyone’s tongue. She understood the frustration that stood out on her sister’s face was understandable, it definitely wasn’t the most ideal of times to begin this new development.
“Love – or that strong level of attraction - doesn’t work on a schedule, ma niña,” she said, leaning forward a little in her chair and surveying her with even, amber eyes. “It is true that the timing is not perfect, but, in my opinion, this shouldn’t be ignored, but embraced. Different from us doesn’t have to be so bad, perhaps he has never been shown a different way, or perhaps co-habiting with someone so different shall be eye-opening.”
Although it had been a long time since Carmen had been around those of her kind that drank human blood, she had spend centuries among them in her past. She had been one. The thought of bringing a human to her lips and feeding off it now sickened her, but she had to respect that she, her family and her friends were the exception and most definitely not the rule. Had she been a bad or evil person when she and Eleazar had fed off humans? She certainly liked to think not. Carmen’s kind, toffee eyes slid down to their piled hands and then shifted up to meet Kate’s face once more.
“It is never hopeless, mi querida,” she said, her soft voice confident. “Hope is why we are here now, defending that which could be considered an abomination, because we have seen into her heart and we have faith in her. You need to talk to him, figure things out and do the same. Don’t let prejudices get in the way of something that will only be offered to you once.”

Kate watched Carmen’s face closely looking for any sign of distaste to the information she was sharing her. Surely this news was shocking and wrong; those were the things Kate was feeling that was making her doubt her emotions for the nomad. He was the very opposite of what she and her family were, he was everything they had strived to changed within themselves and despite all that Kate found herself attracted to him. Now certainly wasn’t the time, but if their problem hadn’t arrived Kate knew she would never have met and that was too painful to think about.
Carmen’s voice was so soft, and she spoke so gently it almost made Kate feel worst, but her words were comforting. Over and over Kate had told herself that this wasn’t the time to be thinking this way, but now Carmen was reassuring her. “We came here for the Cullen family and that sweet child, what sort of cousin would I be if I used this time for my own happiness.” Kate’s long dead heart gave of the echo of something like ache as she even thought about letting this chance pass and losing Garrett. “I have to put Edward, Bella and little Nessie first.”
For a few moments Carmen seemed lost in thought and Kate worried she’d changed her mind. Maybe now Carmen saw the problems that Kate had put forth, the very problems that occupied her mind since first realizing her feelings for the nomad. Kate followed Carmen’s eyes down to their touching hands and felt the comfort from having her sister so close. She waited until Carmen spoke.
Hopeless, that was exactly how all of this felt to Kate. How could anything come form what she was feeling? Carmen’s voice held such confidence that Kate found herself listening and taking in the hope she spoke of. Could this only be offered once? In all the eternity stretched out ahead of her Kate couldn’t believe she would only be offered this once, but he dead heart whispered that a love like this was a one time event. “I don’t hope to change him, or even for him to understand our way of life. I look into his eyes and I know I could take him as he is, is that wrong?” Kate asked eager to know that her feelings weren’t wrong, maybe just ill times. “What do I say to him? How do I tell him of the love I think I feel?”
Everything she was feeling was so new to Kate, in all her time before she had never worried about finding what members of her family had. Now she had found Garrett she was afraid to lose him. “How did you know with Elezear?” Kate asked eager to know how others of their kind, with dead hearts, could feel love so intense. “What did you tell him? How?”

Carmen listened to her sister’s words, hearing the selflessness within them and then continued to smile at Kate. She knew that the reason for their journey to Forks had been for the baby hybrid that slept in another room of the large house, but that didn’t mean that there was nothing else to be discovered and embraced in this situation. Their alliance with the Cullens against the Volturi in this matter was a sacrifice, but it didn’t mean that that was all they could do there. She picked up one of her slender hands and placed it on the side of Kate’s face, touching it tenderly.
“First and foremost, and so we all have,” she reasoned, taking her hand back after a few moments. “But right now they are safe, we, among others, are here for the duration of the confrontation and little Nessie is sleeping, safe and sound. Kate, no one is going to begrudge you for this. The Cullens have asked for our help, which we are freely and happily giving, they would not like to think that they are imposing on us any more than they already think they are. If something happens, then by all means return to us, but any reason you think of to avoid speaking with Garret and listening to your heart is just an excuse.”
She nodded, agreeing with her sister’s vow that she wouldn’t change this man that she had fallen for. She thought back, with some guilt, to the situation that had arisen between herself and Eleazar all those years ago when they were both residents of Volterra and part of the guard that they were now defending the family against. She hadn’t so much changed Eleazar in any way, but she had pushed their decision to leave the Volturi and what they stood for. Her sister was right, to pursue someone in the hope of changing them would be wrong.
“Not at all,” she said, shaking her head so that the curls adorning it bounced over her shoulder. “Love, in its purest form, is unconditional, and I can see that is what is growing here, as you say those words. But sometimes it is necessary to aid the comprehension of those we love to help them, like how I helped Eleazar understand the virtues of the hybrid, rather than just the abomination that was assumed at the outset. I think, where love is real and strong, the words will come. They don’t have to be the most elegant of phrases or occur in a romantic manner, the simple truth will be enough. Just be honest with him, and yourself.”
This time when Carmen thought back to her time in Volterra, a light smile passed over her lips, lighting up her olive face. She realised that their first proclamation of love had been nothing special to anyone else, but to her it was perfect. Her amber eyes glazed over a little as she recalled the event.
“We were in Volterra, and had been associated for a short while, comparatively speaking,” she began, focusing back in on her sister after a moment. “I knew the moment I met him that I had never met anyone like him before and that I never would again. He had come down to the library to scout me for any special talents that the Volturi could take advantage of in the Guard. Then, when we got to talking, the feelings grew. Our brief talk repeated itself and the topics of conversation grew more personal. Finally, like a pot on slow boil, our feelings bubbled forth naturally without mind of anyone else,” she paused, levelling her gaze back at Kate. “I am afraid, mi querida, that you may not have the spoils of time that we were gifted.”

Kate couldn’t help but feel she was complaining as she let her feelings spill out into the room that had been built for silence and reflection. Sitting in the library discussing what she felt happening felt like a sort of reflection, a reflection on her own feelings made her feel more guilt. Kate knew she should be concentrating on the issue at hand, yet talking with Carmen she wanted to tell her mind and mouth run free and spill all the things she felt for the nomadic male who had her in such a whirl wind.
When Carmen laid her gentle hand upon her cheek Kate couldn’t help but smile. The single gesture made her feel like a child again, cared for and understood, understanding she knew Carmen could give more then her other sisters. “Oh Carmen.” Kate breathed knowing that if she was still able to that tears would have clouded her honey colored eyes; both impossible with the other present. Even though Kate couldn’t cry she felt as if her throat constricted that the hopelessness.
It was true, Kate was using their current situation as an excuse. She trained more, helped the others and talked battle talk, but it was all to stop her thinking, feeling and seeing Garrett. Impossible. The man she threw herself into work to avoid was there for the duration just as they were. Even while avoiding Kate felt a comfort knowing her was there.
As Carmen gently peeled away her excuses Kate nodded with her eyes fixed on her sister olive color complexion. “You are right. I’ve used the training and battle talk as an escape from facing him not because I don’t want to see him, but because I’m not sure what will happen when I do.” Kate paused and took a slow breath to calm herself taking another before speaking again. “He makes me feel things and more then that is the fact he makes me feel.” Kate had kept so much locked away since the loss of her mother and the more recent disappearance of her sister, she still couldn’t accept what her sister may have done. Her feelings for her family, and extended family, were the few she would feel and those she kept in strict check. Garrett seemed to break down all those barriers with the ease of a breath of a breeze a blade of grass.
Their kind weren’t born, or rather created, to resist the temptation of human blood as their family had learned too. They, by their very nature, were hunters and human’s their great prey. Kate knew Garrett was a traditional vampire feeding on human’s, she saw it in the dark, intense color of his eyes. Yet this didn’t sway her from her feelings for him nor did she look down on his choice of diet as some did with their unusual choice. Kate knew she wouldn’t push her diet on to him as she’d expect the same of him, instead she would show him their way as she’d been shown and hope for the best. It was a gentle introduction that she knew would work better then a demand and insistence.
Kate feared judgment from Carmen at the idea that she could fall for one who so easily took the lives of others, she was already judging herself on this point. Allaying her fears, as Kate should have guess, her sister was gentle and non judgemental a trait Kate knew to be natural to Carmen as the lilt of her accent. The words she spoke her so gentle and honest Kate again felt the ghosts of impossible tears.
Carmen spoke of honesty with honesty and Kate listened well, she caught the mention of Eleazar initial thoughts on the Hybrid child sleeping elsewhere; the reason for their summons. Kate’s initial feeling had been one of disbelieve and awe upon meeting the sweet child. If her brother could judge a hybrid as an abomination, Kate wondered what he would think of her love for a nomad, a killer of all they abstained from. “How can I be honest even when I want to be? The is so much to consider and what will our family think; there is more at stake then just my heart.’ Kate said, this time she hear the excuses in her words, but she sought refuge behind them for a moment to think.
When her thoughts had righted themselves Kate nodded to Carmen again. “I will talk with him. I know it would be eloquent or easy, but I can’t imagine another day of this bottled up feeling.” Kate said nodding a little more to convince herself of her decision and summon the courage.
Carmen and Eleazar’s love had been evident from the first moment Kate had met them, it shone brightly around them like a halo of glow. Kate watched Carmen’s face change as she asked about her knowing with Eleazar, she wondered if love was the same for everyone; did you just know?
Carmen spoke and Kate felt enraptured by the short story, she felt so many similarities in the tale she heard and what she had felt the moment she met Garrett. When Carmen turned back to her voice was more serious then it had been as she remembered her meeting with Eleazar, Kate heard the serious tone. Time was not on anyone’s side who had gathered for the witnessing against their leaders, without their seer Alice no one knew when it would come just that they were coming. “Your right. As an eternal being time seems to weigh on this.” Kate said pausing to gather her thoughts. “If we have an eternity or just a few days or hours, I have to tell him. These feelings weigh heavy on my heart as the coming witnessing weighs on my mind, but one I can be set free from.” Kate said feeling more and more resolute to what she would do. Reaching out her pale hand she laid it on her sisters darker hand and gripped it gentle. Her eyes looked at the contrast as she spoke, “I’ve been loved by family it is more then most can say.” She said looking up to her sister and smiling a silent thank you for more then just their current shared moment.

Carmen watched her sister’s reaction to the simple action of placing her hand on her cheek and her own expression caved in sympathy. She slowly stroked her thumb softly over the smooth, granite-like skin, her eyes crinkled with compassion for her sister’s plight. Such a gentle movement for creatures of such utter destruction and potential chaos.
“Don’t despair, ma Katrina,” she said, her voice low and soft. Unable to offer more words of comfort or understanding until she knew the extent of the problem that her sister faced, Carmen pulled back to listen to her, eager to be of help. Since taking her role as a leader of the Denali clan along with her husband, Carmen had often cast herself in the role of the listener and the counsellor to whatever problems her siblings were experiencing. It was a part that she enjoyed playing, knowing that she was helping those she loved.
She nodded as her sister went on to admit that she was scared of what would happen when she spoke to this nomad. She could understand that; at least if you don’t ask or risk anything then there is no chance of rejection or failure, but there would also be no hope of success.
“I am sure that you don’t need me to tell you that if nothing is ventured then nothing is gained,” she commented, gently, not aiming to patronise the vampire, but to softly nudge at what she could be missing out on due to her fear. “Accepting the deep emotions that can come with finding your soul mate can be frightening, especially when she much has happened over your life to dampen their worth to you. But the completion that comes with them is worth every little tear they have caused in your heart in the past.”
Carmen continued to listen as Kate as she voiced her doubts about being able to admit to the others how she felt and about whom. Her story about Eleazar had been intended to reassure the other woman that their friends and family saw beyond what was on the outside, but it seemed to have provoked the opposite reaction in her. She shook her head, a light smile on her face.
“You misunderstand, ma quierda,” she said, softly. “Our family accepts unconditionally. Did not you take in myself and Eleazar, so new to this life and its ways all those years ago? You saw beyond our faults and we shall see beyond what you perceive to be yourself and Garrett’s faults also. Your heart is pure with love, if you see a light in your nomad friend then we will learn to see it also.”
“Sometimes there is more than eloquence. Your feelings will speak for you and if he feels the same he shall hear nought but music,” she nodded as Kate added that she will tell Garrett about her feelings. Smiling encouragingly at her, she tried to help bolster the courage that the other vampire was working up. She clasped Kate’s shockingly pale hand within her own slightly olive one and squeezed it gently in a comforting manner. “And we shall always love you, so don’t let us weigh on your mind.”

Usually their kind it was so rare to be graced with touch and comfort, however in their family it was a natural reaction and now she welcomed it more then ever. Watching Carmen’s eyes their reaction to her own utter confusion and worry. Their family, like the Cullens were steeped in love and respect, an alien concept for their race as we most of their actions. There were truly no words Carmen could give to make the situation seem less scary or less confusing, but having her there was more help then the spoken work. “I despair, but I can’t walk away from him Carmen.” she told her sister truthfully. She had no intention of leaving the nomad with the feelings she felt for him.
Her words weren’t patronizing, they merely pointed out something that in all the confusion Kate had forgotten the saying that was so very true. The rest of Carmen’s words were so true and hit home in Kate. The things from her past made giving her heart to love, even for her soul mate, hard done. “Then that is the risk I must take. With my family behind me I know I can do this.” She smiled looking up at Carmen, “Thank you for been my voice of reason.” Saying the words was one thing, but it was easier then following through, that thought still made her nervous.
Seeing the smile and shake of Carmen’s head, Kate wondered if she’d taken her sisters words wrong. As her olive skinned beauty spoke she understood. To hear Carmen pledge the unconditional love and support of their family pushed Kate on more then her own heart and mind could on the matter. Carmen was the Matriarch of the family as Esme was to the Cullens and with that status, and the love of sisters, Kate trusted the other woman’s words. “I see a light, a burning light brighter then any morning sun. He has passion for life and cause. His faults are there, but they pale in comparison to the fire.” She said smiling as she thought about his fire and his drive, two thinks that seem contagious when in his company.
Nodding at Carmen’s wise words, spoken from her own experience, Kate sat back on her heels a little thinking of tell Garrett as soon as she could see him. “You are my family, you are always in my consideration and my heart.” She smiled. “Garrett will be training with the others I should think. Perhaps I will take with him later, a little time to think my words through. “ She said squeezing her sisters hand and smiling excited at the venture she was to embark on.

"You need to do neither," Carmen responded, alarmed at the despondency that seemed to be plaguing her sister in this situation. She supposed that when she and Eleazar met and fell in love there was much less separating them and many less people to judge. There were the Volturi, which brought along different problems, but she knew that anything could be overcome. "Your family are here for you, no matter what you decide. I cannot speak for the nomad - Garrett - but there is no reason that I can see to make you feel that you have to walk away from whatever may be starting here. New beginnings come in all sorts of guises, so don't just dismiss this because it doesn't look perfect."
She smiled at her sister, her anxiety that she was being patronising abaited by Kate's grateful smile and open expression. She wouldn't be surprised if the other woman still felt just as bad emotionally, but at least she could gear her brain up to the situation. Having one part that was sorted out and understood what was going on helped immensely in these situations. The heart... well that had a mind of it's own anyway, there was often no reasoning with it. "You know I am here for you any time - as are any of our sisters, and Eleazar."
The calm smile that already adorned Carmen's olive features only spread wider as she heard her sister talk of the fire that she spied in the nomad. "Everyone is worth the chance to prove their potential," she said, her voice low and encouraging. "It is obvious that you see much in this man. Just imagine what more you will see in him in a short while, once all the nerves and pretence have evaporated ..."
As Kate vowed to speak to Garrett later and squeezed her hands, Carmen returned the gesture, their pale golden eyes meeting. "I feel that would be a good idea," she commented. "Just don't be afraid if the words that you choose fail you in the moment. So long as you give your heart a chance to speak itself, then the sentiment will be out and that is when the next chapter will truly begin."

Fear, it was always fear that controlled Kate. Fear of detection, of facing the Volturi and losing another family member and now the fear of rejection. Even as she knew this she knew she couldn’t let fear rule her life. The reassurence that her family would be there for her help steel those fears and she managed a hopeful smile at her sister. “If I waited for time to be perfect I feel even I, with this immortal life, may run out of time.” She said agreeing that it wasn’t the perfect time but it was time. “I’ve been handed a perfect opportunity, and I see that.” she said accepting the realization to herself as much as to Carmen.
Her family were certainly the most important thing to her and she loved them greatly, rely on them for support and love and the bond their coven thrived on. “I know that and I appreciate all you are giving me in this support Carmen. I know our family will off the same support to Garrett, or anyone, who chooses our unique life.”
It was true that Kate did see very much in Garrett and hoped for the days she’s see so much more in the Nomad that she couldn’t stop thinking about. The smile on her face doubled as Carmen noticed how Kate was taken with the mysterious nomad. “He has quiet captured my thoughts to the point I find my self finding him even before I knew I was seeking him.
Looking into her sisters eyes Kate felt the rush of love and belonging that came from been a part of the coven, it was the same sense of unity she wanted for Garrett in whatever he chose in his life. Nomadic life wasn’t something that Kate understood or could imagine ever wanting. Giving her heart chance to speak seemed like letting go, opening herself up, neither things Kate was very good at except with her family. “Perhaps the words from my heart will be clearer then those of my mind.” She said with a smile and light laugh, she knew in the situation of speaking to him she was bound to get tongue tied.
Standing Kate felt more relaxed then she had when she’d entered the room. “Thank you.” She smiled to her sister, “I think I’ll go find him before this courage you’ve ignited leaves me or fails me.’ She joked, but it was true she knew she was likely to over think this matter and back out in favor of a better time. In other things she was decisive and definite in her actions, but this was something out of her comfort zone and seemed far more dangerous then a battle with even the most aggressive new born.
