Character Basics
Name: Dawn MacEnroe
Nickname: Dawnie (by elder sibling)
Age: 18
Appearance
Looks: Dawn stands under average at 5’2”, and along with this she has quite an average frame and an unremarkable muscle tone. Facially, she has wide, green-brown eyes and an enormous smile to go with an enormous heart. Her hair is jet black in colour and is quite long and styled with a full fringe. Her complexion is naturally pale and light freckles show year round, though in the sun they become more pronounced.
Scars, tattoos, other marks: Freckles
Portrayed by: Eve Myles
Personality and Stats
Basic Personality: In essence, Dawn is essentially a good and large hearted person. She feels for what is right and can be sentimental over quite small things if they are important to her. In recent years she has developed a bit of a tougher skin, but still her emotions do often dominate her. Along with this she is a little bit of a pushover, not liking to make waves unless she finds something morally wrong. She has always been quite a gentle soul, but since her degenerative eye disease advanced to wipe her sight from her completely, it has become easy to see her as more vulnerable when she truly is – she’s not quick to temper, but if pushed too far she can snap.

History: Dawn’s early childhood was blissfully normal, she was born the younger sibling of Olivia MacEnroe and the two of them got on relatively well for the first few years. Although Dawn lost her father at the age of two, it wasn’t a loss that she suffered too greatly as it faded from her memory, though it affected her sister much more.
It wasn’t until she was seven years old that things began to get a little strange. She became afraid of the dark when the world just began to disappear when dimly lit and she often asked why god had decided to turn all the lights off. A few months and many trips to various doctors, specialists and consultants later, she was diagnosed with a form of retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that would soon affect every facet of her life. At this point, however, she was told that the disease usually took a long time to get worse and that if she took her medicine that she wouldn’t get any worse for a long time.
Only five years later, when she was twelve years old, she developed tunnel vision as her brain ceased to translate the visual information that her eyes were sending it. It was scary and due to her young age, she asked for and received a lot of attention from her mother, which made her big sister more and more bitter toward her. She tried to explain what it was like to Olivia, but the other girl had no interest in either the illness or her in general. This made Dawn sad, but she coped with it, just trying to make things as easy as she could for the older girl while coping herself.
By the age of fifteen she had to be taken out of normal school as her sight problems made it impossible to get around the crowded corridors and she had to spend a lot of time adapting to her new, dark world. She made anyone she could tell her stories, usually her mum, just so that she could keep her imagination ticking over exactly what everything looked like – the way when you drew a Christmas tree it looked like lots of triangles stacked on top of each other, the way the fairy lights twinkled, the order of the colours.
By the time she was seventeen, Dawn had somehow managed to earn herself a handful of basic qualifications, but she knew that they would probably do her little good now. She continued to rely on her mother heavily, whilst her elder sister remained at home, feeling begrudged every time she had to play the housewife. It was at this age that another almighty event shattered Dawn’s world when her mother was diagnosed too late with stomach cancer and died a few weeks later. Not only did this severely upset Dawn, but also Olivia, who decided that she needed a break from the UK.
She arranged for her own visa to the USA, and then reluctantly went through the proper channels to arrange Dawn’s as well when she discovered that she was now considered her younger sister’s legal guardian. And so the two of them moved, having a less than stellar relationship, leaving Dawn in a highly vulnerable state of mind, but if it was what her sister needed, then she decided that she was indebted to her. They moved to a non-descript apartment in Seattle where her sister began work and she increasingly began to feel like a burden.
