Graham's words had a way of making Hayley believe that the connection she was feeling, he was too, and that all of this was more than just a flirtation between them but could actually lead to something more. She hoped that she wasn't misreading the signals and that her gut feeling about it was right. She needed this to be more than flirting. She was already swept off her feet just by talking to him. She was surprised when he indicated that he was already impressed by her. She didn't know what she had done to create such a strong impression, however she knew she was impressed by him too. "The feeling's mutual" She told him.
The taller man seemed so sincere in telling her that he would really love to show her his artistic expressions. She wanted to discover everything about him and was anxious to experience that. She smiled warmly as he asked if she was an artist of any kind. "Not in the same way that you are, but I am a drama teacher, so the theater is art form" She told him, finding it incredibly easy to talk to him and tell him anything. She trusted him completely.
Without Graham's touch, the gentle yet large hand on her arm, Hayley felt cold and as though she was missing something. It was almost as if a part of her had just been taken away, she knew she missed it already. But looking up into his eyes as she explained her situation, having arrived with someone else, and a woman at that, her eyes searched his own for a reaction. She expected disgust or hesitation or something in between. She knew it wasn't the ideal situation for meeting someone new, especially someone that you knew that you wanted to see again, but she couldn't give up hope.
She was surprised when he told her that he didn't think her horrible for how she was behaving now and even more shocked when he reached out and pulled her into his arms. His arms were warm, like his hand had been, but being held by him brought her even more comfort and consoling than the light touch had earlier. This was where she was meant to be and the only place she wanted to be. She allowed herself to be hugged by him, putting her own arms around his waist, feeling protected by him, as if he would never allow anyone to think her horrible because of this. She looked up as he told her it wasn't a decision he'd make her make. Hayley didn't know how he could be so understanding. How he could not be pressuring her to make up her mind so that he could go find someone else.
"Thank you...but I...I have to go" She told him, knowing that she didn't want to leave him later in the evening to go back with the woman she arrived with. She had to free herself up at least for the evening, she could decide if what she was feeling now was real enough to break things off with the attractive woman later, but she needed uninterrupted time with him first. "I'll be back" She finally added realizing how she must have initially sounded. "Please don't leave...I just don't want her waiting for me" She said, not yet letting go of him, knowing what she had to do but afraid that if she let go and walked away, he'd be gone when she came back.

Graham inhaled happily, taking in her heady aroma which somehow managed to be plain to him through the stench of sweat and alcohol that defined the club. He smiled down at Hayley, continuing to stare deeply at her simply because there was nothing else in the room as bright and precious as she. He wondered if he saw more of her, if he saw her everyday, the way he wanted to, would he be able to tear his eyes from her then? How could he go back to his everyday life at the Timber Museum now that he had seen his life’s purpose standing here before him. “I’m glad,” he responded, his husky tone genuine.
He nodded, genuinely impressed at her choice of career. To teach someone the art of drama was almost like teaching them about life and he couldn’t see Hayley teaching her charges in any dumbly prescribed manner. “Definitely a most appreciated art form,” he reassured her, continuing to smile. “One that takes great depth, I would imagine?”
The feeling of Hayley’s arms around his waist instantly reassured Gray that he had done the right thing by hugging her. He hadn’t entirely made a conscious decision to embrace her; it was more like a natural impulse when he saw that she was upset or needed comfort in some manner. With her arms encompassing his waist he finally felt a level of inner calm that told him that he was right, this was his imprintee, this was his perfect other half, this was a woman that he would never leave. With the revelation, or the confirmation of the revelation, his light hug intensified a very little to offer more close comfort, even though he knew in his conscious mind that this was too much for just friends, especially with what they had both just said.
“Oh,” Gray breathed, opening his vice-like strong arms immediately as his imprintee told him that she had to go. He tried to keep the disappointment from his face, but was only half successful, despite his usual success in depicting a stoic expression. “I suppose… that is only… necessary…” he said, slowly, though he visibly relaxed when she elaborated on her reason for leaving. For one last time he leant down close to the woman and smiled at her secretly, whilst taking her empty glass from her. “I understand. I’ll be here, all night if I have to.”

Every word that Graham spoke to her sounded enticing and alluring as Hayley gazed up at him with wonder in her eyes. She was completely mesmerized by him as if by the effect of some drug slipped into her drink, an option she considered had happened, but found herself by way of the drug, or by her own emotions, not caring in this moment if he did drug her. She just wanted to enjoy the way she was feeling and never let go of it.
"Thank you, and yes I believe so" She said in response to his praise for her career choice. Though they both had different passions, it seemed a commonality between them, the shared love of art, in whatever form it took. Hayley knew if she hadn't gotten this job, she still would have found a way to express herself, even if it meant small community productions. She was sure it was the same for Graham.
Holding onto Graham seemed natural and right. It wasn't the nervous awkwardness one would expect from hugging a stranger or even the sleazey lust filled gropes of someone you expected to see only for that night, but in a more intimate matter. This felt as if she had known him for much longer and was just comfortable being beside him. Telling him she had to leave his embrace was extremely difficult and scared her at the thought that she'd lose him if she left. She saw the look of disappointment in his eyes as he told her, but it seemed to lessen with her explanation as he took her empty glass from her. He said he'd be there all night if he had to, but she knew guys, especially at clubs, would say anything a girl wanted to hear. She was worried he'd get distracted by another woman or just not be willing to wait once she was out of sight and probably out of his mind as well.
"I will be back, I promise" She told him her eyes giving him one last pleading look hoping he would be there when she returned. In a move that took her more effort than expected she removed her arms from around him and turned, walking away. She had to fight off the impulse to forget any good manners, and ditch the girl she arrived with to stay with him all night.

Gray nodded and smiled warmly at the beautiful woman before him, taking another long draft of his French cider. He wanted to lift his hand and touch her flawless cheek to reassure her in her career choice, even if she didn’t need any reassurance, he just wanted to reach out to her. However, despite the liberties he was taking in his closeness to her, he knew that anything like that would be too far and he didn’t want to risk their entire relationship due to impatience. He was a poet, he waited for days for the right turn of phrase to strike him, he could do patience, but this woman was proving to be his very own temptation.
Apparently the temptation was too much for Graham to conquer and he soon found Hayley in his arms, under the guise of comforting her. Of course, his main aim was to offer her all the comfort he could, and it always would be, but he couldn’t pretend that he didn’t get some pleasure in sweeping her up like that. He only hoped that she neither minded the forwardness of the contact, nor thought it inappropriate of him. He purposely kept his hands in very neutral positions on her body so that she wouldn’t misconstrue his approach. He knew that if he messed this up with her, even if she was here with somebody else, then he would have to spend the rest of his life trying to make her see him as someone she could trust and have a relationship (of some kind) with.
He levelled his intensely dark eyed gaze at Hayley and nodded, unable to stop hope from showing within the orbs as she promised to be back. He would wait there longer than all night for her to return, for she was his whole reason for being now. He could feel an awkward twisting of his heart strings as he considered the fact that he might have scared her off by being too forward with her, but it hadn’t seemed like that. He had told her that he would give her space to deal with the person that she had arrived with, and he knew he must do that. He trusted her implicitly.
“I trust you,” he said, his voice husky and quiet, though it retained that strange carrying quality that it had about it. He gave her a confident smile as she walked away and leaned on one of the pillars around him. “I’ll be here, waiting.”

Graham voiced his trust in her and said he'd be there waiting. Hayley nodded through her own fear of him leaving and knew she had to trust in his words too, that he'd be there when she got back, just as she was wanting him to trust her to come back. Walking away from Graham was incredibly difficult. She took a few deep breaths as she walked through the crowd to find the woman she had arrived with, knowing this would be just as difficult. Hayley had always been a one person woman, whether she was dating a male or female at the time. She didnt cheat and she didnt like open relationships. But she knew that if tonight went as her urges were leading her, she'd be with someone else and her relationship with the woman would be over the next day.
Hayley explained to her how she would find her own way back and not to wait for her. She also thought it only fair to give her companion the chance to enjoy the night as well, and if she found someone else, Hayley knew she deserved it if Graham did just end up being a one night stand. The woman wasn't pleased by Hayley's hints that she might be leaving with someone else but seemed just as determined to find someone else of her own before the night was out. Hayley knew it wouldnt take her long, she was attractive, and a bit tipsy already. She hoped she wouldnt regret doing this, what she knew would end with her breaking things off officially in the morning. But everything inside her told her one night with this man would be worth it (not thinking he actually had deep feelings about her that would go beyond that) and knew that she had always known the girl wasnt the one already.
After the discussion was through, Hayley turned around. She tried to put on a confident face as she walked back to where she had left Graham, as if she'd have expected any man she had even glanced at to wait for her return patiently, but the intense feeling she had for him made her worry about how heartbroken she would be on the chance he had left or found someone else.

Gray’s intensely dark eyes followed Hayley back to her companion, tracing her movement through the crowd and watching how it bent and parted to her will. That seemed right, though, the woman’s beauty and superiority to the mass should make her their conductor. His height made it easy to keep tabs on what she was doing, where she was going as he could see over pretty much everybody (if not everyone) there, but he made a conscious decision to give her some privacy in the moment.
It was difficult for him to tear his eyes from his soul mate for even a moment, especially when something within him told him that she was probably hurting from this task that she had to perform. It would be better in the long run, though, he knew that. He would take care of her for the rest of her life, make her happy and protect her. He would offer her himself in his entirety and would not entertain thoughts of hurting her. Still, she couldn’t know that now, she was probably just attracted to him on the surface. He hoped that she would see more to him when they got to know each other.
By casting his thoughts down these avenues, Gray managed to keep his prying eyes away from the conversation between the women. Becoming an imprinter was as life-changing as becoming a wolf, if not more son. Becoming a wolf had altered his sleep patterns and social circles and species, but he had always been the same person underneath. Imprinting on this girl, that had already altered his soul, entwining it with hers; he only hoped that she would think similarly given time. That was a point, though. She needed to know before they discovered the bounds of this relationship they had stepped into that night.
As the young woman approached him from the dance floor once more, Gray’s eyes instantly attached themselves to her face, taking in the confidence to it. He tilted his head, sending a few dishevelled curls bouncing to the other side of it. There was something vulnerable there too, though, something that he could recognise through the façade, just. He smiled at her warmly as she came into range and extended a large hand to her shoulder and upper arm in comfort.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his quiet tone somehow carrying across the club. There was true concern in his voice instead of a casual disinterest that you might expect from someone looking for a one night stand, and he didn’t make any further moves towards her, wanting to allow her space for the moment as she got over what had just happened. He gently squeezed her arm. “I’m so glad you came back.”

Hayley was surprised to find that the walk back to Graham was just as hard as talking to the girl had been. Her stomach was twisted in knots with worry that he wouldn't be there. That he'd have found someone else and she'd have lost out on the first person she ever felt this strongly about.
Though she faked a confident smile, not wanting to look desperate to either him or anyone else around (though her concern was much more for what he'd think of her than caring about anyone else. There was still worry there in her eyes mixed with fear. She half wanted to turn back so she didnt have to face the rejection of him not being there when she returned. But if there was even a chance he waited, she didn't want to miss out.
It didnt take her too long to see the man towering over the others, looking straight at her, and giving her a warm smile. Her fears left and she smiled back at him, feeling relieved. She nodded as she stopped in front of him. "Yeah, she knows not to wait for me, I'm sure she'll find someone else to go home with" Hayley told him, not even caring anymore if the other woman did. She smiled again as he squeezed her arm letting her know that he was glad she came back. "I'm glad you waited...thank you"

Gray internally sighed in relief when, even from a distance, he was able to see some of the fear and uncertainty melt from him imprintee’s eyes. To know that she felt uncomfortable or scared or anything, in fact, was to feel it himself, he was beginning to realise. He wondered if humans ever felt love this strongly, if she did. He hoped one day to occupy some part of her heart, but until then he give over the space in his own for her. Like he had a choice.
“It’s a shame for her really,” he said, continuing to use that low, private tone. “To arrive with the brightest light in the room only to leave with a dull imitation. You did the right thing,” he straightened up to see over a multitude of heads towards the dance floor. He was aware that he had sprouted a cheesy line, but it was odd… previously such things had been perverse and over-dramatic, but now he could see them to be true. “She was meant for someone else.”
Smiling back down at Hayley, he allowed his large, warm hand to linger naturally around her elbow, not wanting to leave her be now that she was attainable. “You don’t need to thank me, Hayley. I would still have been waiting here tomorrow, next week… You get the picture,” his mouth shifted to become a half smile, flashing a portion of his teeth between his lips. “So, what is it you like to do in these places? Dance? Drink? Find somewhere quiet to talk? The night is yours.”

Hayley felt a thousand times more comfortable once she had rejoined Graham. She felt flattered by his compliment, calling her the brightest light in the room before commending her on her choice. "Thank you, but I'm sure she'll find someone else just as bright" Hayley told him. She was confident in her own appearance and what she had to offer, but she wasn't vain enough to think that she was the prettiest girl in the room wherever she went. She knew especially in a venue like this, it wouldnt be hard to pick someone up, thats what most people came here for. She did however feel confident that she had made the right decision. She'd never have been able to leave with Graham and have a clear conscience if she hadn't spoken to the girl. She raised an eyebrow as he added that she was meant for someone else. "Does that mean I'm meant for you?" She asked boldly, figuring the flirtation had led her this far.
His hand on her arm felt so warm to the touch, not just physically, but also it was a touch that warmed her soul and just gave her a feeling of joy. She laughed lightly as he suggested he would have been here next week waiting for her. He couldnt see anyone waiting that long for someone. "I would never make you wait that long" She said surprised that she was speaking as if they had a future when she still didnt know if she would see him after today.
She watched the way his lips curled up into a smile and revealed his teeth beneath it. His smile was gorgeous and just made him more attractive to her. But she also liked seeing that he was happy. "Usually I like to dance when I come here, I like the music" She told him, not sure what she wanted to do now that she had him. "We could do that, or find someplace to talk...whatever you prefer"

A considerate smile graced Gray’s face as he considered Hayley’s words, with just an amused kink to one of the corners of it. He knew that what she said was impossible. She was the beacon to which he was drawn; he wouldn’t find another so bright even if he chose to live for all eternity (not that he would even consider that now that he had found his beloved imprintee). However he didn’t comment further, knowing that she must have felt something for the woman that she had just left and not wanting to make any guilt worse.
“Words so bold for one so fair,” he commented, a low laugh emerging from him as Hayley asked whether she was meant for him. In fact, yes, she was meant for him and him alone, just as he was meant for her. Perhaps that, however, was best left for another conversation. That had to be at least ‘difficult conversation #3’ following the ‘I am actually a werewolf’ and the ‘oh and vampires are also real’ conversations. Hopefully that might soften the blow of the rest. “But…” he paused, catching her eyes with his. “How would you feel if it was true?”
A satisfied, loving smile spread across Gray’s lips as she reassured him that she would never leave him waiting that long. He couldn’t be sure of exactly what she was thinking, but it seemed that his imprintee at least felt a fraction of the torrent of emotions that he felt for her. He slid his hand down her arm, making his touch light so that she wouldn’t mistake it for a grabbing motion, and took her hand lightly. “Thank you.”
He nodded a little, not surprised that such a vital creature should love the dance floor. He had always been a little large and bulky to be graceful in his pre-wolf days, but since his transformation his dancing was a little more acceptable. He grinned at her as he started to lead her out to the dance floor. “Okay, first we dance, then we’ll see what happens. Alright?”

Hayley gave him a smile as he called her bold and fair and turned her head to the side slightly as she looked up at him, wishing she knew just what he was thinking. "I guess I'm just a bold woman. I go for what I want" She told him, wondering if he'd be scared off by her forwardness with him. She didnt want to appear easy. Her smile turned into a light laugh as he asked how she would feel if it was true. "I think I'm the one that asked you the question" She said thinking about her own answer even as she said it. If she was meant for him, she'd be happy. She'd be ecstatic and content with life.
Hayley was drawn to him the more he smiled at her, the more happiness she saw in him and just the way that he looked at her, as if she were the only one in the room. If he was a player, this guy was good...but she didnt think he was. When his hand moved down her arm, it sent warm sparks through her. She turned her hand slightly allowing him to take it as his moved down. "You're welcome" She told him, knowing he didnt need to thank her for not making him wait.
She allowed him to lead her out to the dancefloor and nodded as he suggested that they dance then see what happened. No pressure from him. And there was no pretense that she had to come home with him that night as so many in the room would do. She knew that after the dance, she'd want to get to know him. To find that place to talk. "Deal" She told him as she started to sway with the music.

Once again, Gray’s mouth curled at one corner as Hayley’s natural confidence came out and astounded him. He appreciated it; he knew that everyone had their insecurities, but he found that those with a certain level of inner-confidence reflected him better. He would like to think that they would one day be a perfect reflection of each other, if she had the mettle to deal with his nature and the force that was connecting them so strongly.
“Good to hear it,” he said in his low tone, looking completely at ease with the conversation. He wouldn’t like her to mask any part of herself and liked that she didn’t feel the need to either. He laughed as she turned the question back around on him, even though he had deflected it the last time. “Oh well, I would say that it would be answer that I would be interested in pursuing...”
It wasn’t a real answer, it wasn’t even a good answer, but it was something that he would have to cover later and in the meantime he didn’t want to put her off by making her think that he wasn’t interested. Then again, he didn’t want to come across as too forceful either. “If you wanted we could discover the answer together.”
Gray enjoyed the light electrical tingles that holding Hayley’s hand sent down his arm, though at the same time as the excitement he also felt completely natural, as if she was an extension of him and vice versa. He smiled down at her as she began to sway to the music, starting to move himself and nodded in agreement. He wasn’t the best at dancing, he certainly wouldn’t win any prizes for it, but the grace that being a wolf bestowed on him helped to stop him from looking as awkward as such a tall man ought to on a dance floor. He did manage to unwind quite quickly, allowing the tempo of the music to dictate his movements, which all revolved around his companion. His eyes didn’t leave her, which accounted for the fact that no one tried to interrupt them as they danced – he was sure that she got a lot more attention usually from both men and women.
“Sorry if I’m cramping your style,” he said, leaning across so that his mouth was near her ear, allowing her to hear over loud music.

Everytime Graham spoke, the low husky tone to his voice sent a flutter through her of excitement. It lured her as strongly as his good looks and charm did. She was a bit surprised by his answer and gave a nod as he responded that he'd be interested in pursuing an answer of whether she was meant for him. "Maybe we'll see how far you're willing to go in pursuit" She replied.
She smiled as he then suggested that perhaps they could discover the answer together. Hayley gave another nod. "I think that would be something I'd be interested in as well" She said wondering if her agreement would make her less desirable to him, with the idea that many men had that only women who were unattainable were worth going after. She wanted to keep his attention, to have him still want to see what was between them.
His hand was so warm as it led her to the dancefloor. It was comforting and soft, despite his strong outward appearance. She could sense how gentle he could be. She kept her eyes on him as she moved along to the music. She moved in slow long movements, doing her best to remain graceful and seductive, without crossing the line to sleazy exotic dancer. She was surprised that as he danced, he was focused around her, not scoping out the dance floor, or just using her as a prop to make himself look better. They were on equal ground despite their size difference.
She shook her head as he suggested he was cramping her style. "It's kind of nice not to be groped by random drunks who think they have a chance" She told him, knowing she didn't mind missing out on being hit on by others on the dance floor, she only needed him.

Graham smiled as Hayley challenged him to see how far he would pursue her, even though he knew that the vagueness of his last answer must have prevented the woman from getting an accurate read on how deep his feelings actually already were for her. A slight flash of teeth showed between his lips and his eyes crinkled in a genuine smile. “Definitely; I hope that doesn’t disappoint you? Not that I’m threatening to stalk you into submission, but… there’s no one more worth fighting for.”
The grin on Gray’s face settled into a contented smile as she confirmed that she would be interested to see how far they could go as well. He knew that the imprinter’s bond was almost impossible to break – look at Emily and Sam – but it was comforting to know that she wanted him (a little, at least) without the imperative of destiny. “I’m glad.”
He cradled Hayley’s hand in his own large one with all the tenderness of the proverbial ‘gentle giant’, making sure that he didn’t tug her too fast, or stop suddenly in the throng of people. His dance style did, pretty much, match the laid back personality that he exuded. He made no really sudden movements, nor attempting anything to big or whacky to be accepted. He swayed to the music, without feeling self-conscious other than in the fact that he needed to impress the girl that he was with. His eyes never left her as she also danced tastefully before him and he found himself mesmerised by the smooth, subtle movements, reflected them in his own way.
A small surge of relief flooded his system as she told him that she enjoyed not being hit on by random drunks, and was further encouraged to pay all his attention on her. Okay, so she hadn’t told him that she wanted his exclusive company, but she had shown a preference to him over the other guys hanging around the bar, who were perhaps more from her social background.
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he told her with a smile, still leaning close to her so that their words could pass between them and stand some chance of being heard above the music. “I guess I’m better than your average bodyguard – not so subtle though, I’m afraid.”

Graham had a smile that could catch her full attention from the moment his lips curled, her eyes catching the pearly whites beneath. She gave a light chuckle at his response that he hoped his answer hadn't disappointed her. The idea that any woman could be disappointed by this man's attention was something she just saw as an impossibility. "Nothing I've seen yet as disappointed me" She assured him, looking at him a bit more curiously as he spoke of not threatening to stalk her into submission but that she was worth fighting for. "You're either a very smooth talker or I give off a better first impression than I thought" She spoke her thoughts openly. She didnt think she deserved for him to think this highly of her, despite the fact she did have fairly decent self-esteem.
Hayley realized as she looked at him that time didnt seem to matter much as she gazed upon his smile, sure that her own face was reflecting the same back at him. She could have easily spent all night just staring into his eyes, and memorizing his face, so that when their time was over, she could always remember him just as clearly as she saw him now.
Graham was a better dancer than Hayley would have expected given his size, he still moved fluidly, and didnt seem awkward at all. He wasn't one of those guys who attempted to show off, or make themselves the center of attention; the two of them just enjoyed each other's company. Her smiled at him turned into more of a grin as he said how he would take her words as a compliment, of enjoying his company over the others here, before calling himself a bodyguard. "Subtle is overrated" She told him, knowing she'd rather stand out by his side than fade into the crowd with anyone else. "And you're much better than a bodyguard" She said knowing her feelings toward him were already more, she didnt want to be around him just to ward off others, she just did want to be with him.
