{....post Breaking Dawn....Tag Nash}
Dating was still a difficult thing for Nash and Lyndal to accomplish. It was always a secret, from Travis and from Nash’s uncle and aunt. Lyndal had to admit it was almost fun, though she was under no doubt that it may soon lose its draw and eventually she and Nash would want a normal relationship minus all the sneaking around. For now Lyndal was just happy to spend any alone time with Nash away from his uncle and aunt’s prying eyes and Travis’ loving interruptions. With Ru and Cornaro out for the evening visiting family with Travis, Lyndal and Nash had the house to themselves; a rarity since been caught kissing a few weeks before.
It was movie night, Lyndal’s choice she’d chosen a classic horror movie from the limit choice of the grocery store. It was a classic from the 80s The Company of Wolves, Lyndal had picked it based on the cover admitting to Nash, with no shame, that it reminded her of Little Red Riding Hood her favorite story as a child. Around Nash Dal felt little shame, she was always so comfortable and content with him, along with other growing feelings and desires. The other feelings were something she was working on for better or worst, depending the out come.
The movie was confusing to Lyndal, a mixture of dream and reality with a line blurring somewhere beyond her grasp. Lyndal had seen many a horror movie and werewolf movie, but this one seem to his more of a cord. The idea of it been set out in wood in the middle of no where really made her think about the woods and expanse outside the house; the more Dal thought about it the scarier it all became. She knew it was ridiculous; wolves lived in packs in the wilderness. She knew there was no such thing as werewolves. And more then anything she knew Nash would keep her safe, always.
As the credits rolled and the room fell into near darkness Lyndal moved closer to Nash, her head leaning on his shoulder as she hand rested on his leg. She needed the contact to counter act the silly, childish thoughts she was having brought on from the horror movie. “I love to hate horror movies.” Lyndal said as she wrinkled he nose and turned her head further into Nash’s chest. “Why do horror movies always happen out in the middle of no where, like woods? And the wolf thing is just silly, who’d believe that.” She smirked remembering that even as a child she often told her parents and brother that she’d recognize a wolf in her grandmother’s place. “Next time the movie is your choice.” She laughed drawing her legs up on to the sofa as the credits finished.

Nash was a bit uneasy with Lyndal's choice of movies for the evening. A werewolf movie. His paranoid side wondered for a moment if she had picked that as a way of trying to let on to him that she knew about his secret. Maybe she had seen him sometime when he was changing back and forth. But he tried to convince himself that it was just a random choice. Lots of people liked horror movies and werewolves were common in horror movies.
Nash kept looking over at Dal throughout the movie, trying to gauge her reactions when the wolves came on screen. Though they didn't look like he did (or act in the same way that his pack did) he still wondered what she thought of them. He was a bit worried that the horror movie image was all that she'd be able to see once she found out. She'd think he was a monster from the movies, uncontrollable, and something that should be run away from. He hoped she'd understand.
With the house to themselves Nash risked putting an arm around her as she leaned against his shoulder. He hated that they had to be so secretive when his feelings were strong enough that he just wanted to shout them from the rooftops. He knew they wouldnt be hiding it forever, they just had to figure out how and when was the right time to go public, given the circumstances.
"I guess the isolation of the woods seems scary, besides, wolves arent going to be as hidden if they're running around in the city right?" He said with a smirk, knowing he'd never try changing in some place like Seattle. "So you don't like the werewolf thing?" He said trying to feel her out. "I think its believable" He said with a casual shrug"

Lyndal had always enjoyed horror movies, though she preferred Zombies over Werewolves and vampires more gruesome and fun to watch. Though she enjoyed the imagery and dream like state of the movie she’d chosen, Dal suspected she’d have trouble sleeping later. Her mind flashed back to a previous conversation with Nash and she wondered if he’d let her sleep with him if she got scared. Lyndal remembered growing up when she’d watch horror movies with Laurie then top and tail in his bed for fear of been alone, the memory made her smile.
As the movie wore on Dal noticed Nash looking at her, she wondered if he was gauging her reaction to the movie. She tried not to look to scared and tried not to jump every time something jumped out from a hidden place. Her lack of bravery made her smile and she hoped Nash would think it an endearing trait. Lyndal noticed Nash didn’t seem to relax into the movie as she did, tension was an ever present feeling in their relationship and she assumed he was on pins and needles anticipating the return of his aunt and uncle. Trying to reassure him Lyndal placed her hand lightly on his leg and leaned into him, she found comfort in his touch and hoped her touch gave him the same feeling.
With his arm around her Lyndal relaxed and tried to forget all about his family coming back soon. It wasn’t that she didn’t like them; it was just hard with their ever watching eyes. Lyndal wanted to be with Nash properly the way she say Kele and Daylan been, but she knew for her and Nash it was difficult and complicated. Even just keeping up their pretense til graduation seemed like forever, and Lyndal still wasn’t sure what would happen then after she graduated and had to return to Australia; she knew she couldn’t leave Nash.
“The isolation is very scary. City are safer, more people and they’re closer. Wolves can stay in the woods and I’ll head to the city. Back home her have dingoes in the cities.” She laughed remarking on her home countries wildlife and knowing that the city was probably just as dangerous if not more so.
It seemed like a strange question, everyone knew werewolves were mythical and something that existed only in horror movies and fairy stories. As Nash shrugged Lyndal sat up to face him. “Werewolves are fine in stories, not sure they’d fair to well in the real world. I think it’s a fun idea, been able to change into animals. Don’t some Native American tribes have myths about animal spirit guides and been able to change into them?” Lyndal asked thinking back over history lessons and other sources she’d seen. “I think their great stories. When I was a kid I also told everyone I could spot the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood, my mum said I spoilt it for the other kids.” Lyndal said giving her own shrug as she spoke.

Throughout the movie Nash knew that he was paying much more attention to Lyndal than to the actual movie itself. Sure he caught a few of the intense scenes but he was sure he missed the majority of the plot and explanation of the lore in this film. It was too nervous for him to be watching a werewolf movie knowing that he was keeping this from her. The guilt was eating at him, wanting to come clean and always be honest with the woman he loved, his imprintee, but he knew that this could be what drove her away from him. He didnt want to scare her off and lose her forever.
With the added fear of having his aunt and uncle or son come home early and find them together it made Nash reluctant to do more on the couch than just put his arm around her. Even that was a risk to him but he tried to remember that he'd be able to hear their car first before they came in so he could move over on the couch to create more space between them.
"I think the isolation is peaceful...and cities safer? There's more people and more crimes in cities" He said trying to defend the area where the wolves lived. It was hard for him to hear her say that the wolves could stay in the woods but she'd head to the city. He wondered if that would be her reaction when she learned about him. Would she leave him behind in the rez to head back to her city in Australia?
"Yeah its kind of a popular theme in Native American mythology" Nash told her. "Even among our tribe. I think it could be more than a great story...I mean anything's possible" He said trying not to admit to anything yet.

Even as Lyndal watched the movie she was aware that Nash didn’t seem to be concentrating on the movie, it made her smile; a slight feeling of satisfaction that she could distract him from a movie. Lyndal had a few self esteem issues with dating Nash sometimes she worried he was looking for more, and sometimes she worried he was dragging his feet about things; a happy medium was hard to reach. Sometimes Dal wasn’t sure which one of them was holding back more.
It was hard to hard to feel comfortable moving things along sitting in the front room; even though Dal wanted to be closer to Nash she didn’t want to risk them getting caught again. Laying her head on his shoulder was as far as Dal was willing to go, alone in his room on their few Sunday mornings alone was different; now the others could be back any moment.
“I know cities have their issues too, but a werewolf would stick out more in the city. I like the isolation though, especially when I have you to keep me safe.” Lyndal smiled, it was true that she trusted him with her safety and more. The conversation was hypothetical and just one spawned from a movie, but Dal thought Nash seemed a little more serious. “Its safe here though, even with isolation. And I’m not running back to a city any time soon so its waste less conversation.” She said worrying there was something he wanted to tell her and was clinging to this conversation to cover it up.
Popular theme, Dal remembered back home they’d studied it in English about passing on stories and heritage through word and she nodded at Nash’s agreement. “Sure anything is possible, but changing into animals. The closest I ever got was a chicken at a livestock festival on summer. I was a kid.” She said in defense as she smiled at the memory of been a yellow feathery chicken. “Do you believe it? Or are you just getting me to believe the story like Travis with the tooth fairy?” She asked.

Nash wasn't sure whether or not he should continue this conversation the way that it was going. On one hand it might be a good transition into him telling her the truth about what he was. But on the other hand, she wasn't seeming very pro-werewolf, and following a horror movie up by telling her that he was the mythological creature that was in the movie may not be the best idea. He wondered if keeping the conversation in the hypothetical was possible, to maybe lay a bit of the groundwork for whenever he did tell her. He wanted her to know, but wasn't sure how would be easiest for her.
He smiled as she told him that she liked the isolation with him to keep her safe. "You know you are safe with me right? Even if there was a werewolf here, I'd never let you get hurt" He told her, knowing his tone was more serious than it should have been with their current conversation. He felt a relief as she said she wasnt running back to the city anytime soon. "Who needs the city, stay here instead" He told her softly.
He listened to her explain how unrealistic changing into animals was. He would have thought the same thing too...before he turned into a wolf. It was obvious to him she didnt believe it but when she asked if he did, he knew he couldnt lie to her, but explaining the real reason he believed would be too much right now. "It's my heritage, so yeah I do...guess I believe it so I can pass it on to Travis and the Quileute legends won't be forgotten."

The movie wasn’t exactly riveting and Lyndal had trouble concentrating. Sitting in the darkened family room with Nash so close to her Dal’s mind kept wandering off on tangents about him and been alone; the things they could be doing. Aside from the ideas of kissing and been kissed Lyndal was also thinking about her homework that was laying undo and almost forgotten in her bag in her bedroom. She knew she should be doing it and she knew if Nash knew about the assignments he’d make her do it, but for now she was comfortable been with him.
The isolation of been on the Reservation was something Lyndal liked, been away from everything. She liked it, but at night it was a little unnerving the movie’s topic didn’t help that. Lyndal smiled as Nash told her he’d protect her even from a mythical creature, it was something she’d never doubted. “But werewolves are just made up, like unicorns or Vampires.” She laughed knowing she’d left those daydreams behind when she’d reached her mid teens. Yet even as she laughed Dal noticed Nash’s tone wasn’t as carefree and jokeative as her’s and the subject pertained, she put it down to stress from work and their situation. “The city doesn’t hold much draw for me now I’m here with you.” She smiled nudging him and his arm slightly as she shrugged.
The idea of a person changing into an animal was the stuff of legends and folk lore. Lyndal knew the bush people back in Australia had legends of such things, but she didn’t take much notice and took what she did hear with a big pinch of salt. Nash didn’t share her laughing and Dal wondered if she’d offended him, she knew the natives had a long heritage and wondered if he firmly believed in things like the bush people. “So you’ll tell him that people can change into animals?” She asked wondering where it was all leading. “But you’ll tell him its just legends right, not a real thing? Will you tell me the legends?” she wanted to know that part of his heritage as she wanted to know all about him.

The times when Nash would sneak a look over to Lyndal it appeared like she was only half paying attention to the movie as well. Every so often she'd have a look on her face like she was thinking about something else. He wondered if she was worried about his aunt and uncle coming in. Or maybe she just felt uncomfortable with the werewolf movie.
Nash swallowed nervously as he began feeling out her reaction to werewolves. She said how they were made up like vampires and unicorns. Well at least one of those was made up...as far as he knew. "The stories come from somewhere I'm sure" He said lightly, not sure that now was the best time to admit that he was one, after having watching a horror movie. He smiled however when she told him that she wasnt really drawn to the city with him here. He pulled her a little closer and kissed the top of her head. "I'm glad to hear it, and we can visit the city anytime you get the urge"
Nash wasnt sure exactly how to answer her question about what he'd tell Travis because he wasnt really sure himelf. He knew he wouldnt lie to his son, but there was a lot that he wanted to protect him from. "I'll tell him that its what the Quileute people have traditionally believed and passed down, if it makes him safer to think that his ancestors were magical and protected our tribe by turning into animals, then I'm not going to tell him not to think that" He said, hoping to turn what he was into a good thing and plant the seeds there.
He smiled as she asked if he would tell her the legends. "Well, the legends say we're descended from wolves, that they're our brothers even now. The tribe still has a law never to kill a wolf" He explained to her. "And our descendents, the wolves who turned into men, protected our land and our people from the cold ones and any other danger that came close by....or at least that's the story I was told" He said chickening out a bit.

Sure stories came from somewhere, but Lyndal didn’t really believe they came from a place where werewolves and all those creatures really existed. Yet as Nash spoke Dal wondered if he still believed in all that, sure part of her believed in fairies but she was sure most teenage girls did somewhere deep down. “You seem like you believe all this stuff.” she said with a smile but not making fun of him just trying too see what he thought of it all.
Cities held no interest for her when she could be curled up on the rez with Nash, and she smiled as he kissed her head feeling even more content. “I don’t mind visiting, but I’m more then happy here on the rez,.” she said then added, “Though I’m happy wherever you are.” Even now she felt shy and her words came out quieter. It was nerves of his aunt and uncle catching them and not wanting to come across as a giddy teenager.
When Dal asked what he’d tell Travis she didn’t just mean about the stories, she wondered where he stood on all the myths like tooth fairies and Santa. Though Lyndal meant more broadly she noticed Nash seemed more focused on the myths more close to the Rez. “Isn’t that why all parents tell us myths? Like the tooth fairy so we’d get over the pain of losing a tooth?” she said wanting to console him and show him it was no different from other half truth stories parents told. “It makes me feel good knowing your ancestors protect the tribe.” she smiled at him.
“Like real Werewolves, but changing at will?” she asked interest by the story he was telling. Lyndal notice he seemed hesitant at the end as if he changed it, or changed his mind about something, but it was the cold ones that really caught her interest. “Cold ones? Who are they?” she asked him shifting on the sofa to look at him closer as he continued.

Nash shrugged as she said how he seemed like he believed all of the stuff they were talking about. He knew it would probably seem silly to him to admit to it, but he also couldnt lie to her now and say he didnt believe in it, only to tell her down the road that he was one of the things they were now discussing. "Anything's possible"
Nash continued smiling as she spoke of being happy on the rez and anywhere where he was. It felt comforting to hear those words from her, to hear that she was feeling the same way he was. "I'm happy wherever you are too..you're all I need" He said softly, hoping that didnt sound like too serious of a statement for where they were in their relationship right now, afterall they were still sneaking around alot.
"I think I believe in creatures roaming the woods more than I believe in fairies coming in to take kids teeth" He told her with a smile, glad that she felt good about the thought of his ancestors protecting the tribe, even if she didnt actually believe the story.
"The legends don't have all the details in it" He said trying to keep it vague but honest. She asked about the cold ones and he felt nervous. "Well thats the translation from the native Quileute language" He told her. "But if we go by the movies, I guess they'd be the vampires right? They seem to go together a lot"

Watching him shrug and admit anything was possible made Lyndal smile, she found it sweet that he still held on to the myths and fairy stories, she put it down to him been a father and keeping it alive for Travis. “I guess.” she said with her own shrug not really sure what she thought of the possibilities. “I think its good to keep an open mind, that’s for sure.” She said.
Been happy on the rez was one thing, but Lyndal knew that in truth she was just happy to be with him. Everything was still so new and hard for them, there was a lot of sneaking around especially after been caught once. Even though it was so new Lyndal knew she loved him now even more then when she first met him, saying it was another thing. “All I need is you and Travis.” She said confidently including his son, someone she loved too. “Its weird him not been here, but its nice to be alone with you.” Having the house to themselves was rare and something to be enjoyed, but it didn’t stop Dal missing Travis.
“Hey, I still believe in the tooth fairy and that we do have to keep alive for Trav.” She said with a smile before quickly catching her words. “I mean my parents did it for me so you have to do it for him too. it’s a nice lie.” She tried to cover the we in her words hoping he would pick up on it and think she was intruding on his parental role, in truth she wanted to share that with him even if she was still so young. “Yea, but things roaming the woods is scarier then the sweet
Lyndal sat back ready to listen to the legends of his tribe, it was something he believed in so she wanted to hear more about it all. Cold ones and the translation caused mixed reactions in her. Vampires, now those were as mythical as werewolves both something she didn’t believe in, but Nash seemed so serious and really seemed to believe it. With out a laugh or smirk Dal listened. “You really believe in Vampires too? I never knew you were in to all these myths and stuff.” she said surprised that he would be so into it and know so much about it, he’d always seemed more down to earth. “So there are vampires in the woods too? Now that’s a scary” She said in all honesty.

Nash smiled back at Lyndal as she didnt try to convince him that it was silly think those things were possible but instead said that it was good to keep an open mind. He was glad she thought that and hoped even more that she'd have an open mind when they had the discussion about him. "Having an open mind is important" He agreed.
His smile grew as she included Travis in what she needed. It touched him so much that she was making such an effort to be in his life as well and wanted Travis in her life. "It is weird no having him around tonight, I'm not used to it on nights when I'm home" He said honestly. "But I do like spending time alone with you too, tonight was nice, even just staying in like this" He said hoping she felt the same way. To him it didnt matter what they did, he loved being around her. But he wasn't sure if the feeling was that strong in imprintees.
Nash laughed as she said how she still believed in the tooth fairy. His laugh turned into a genuine smile as he caught her wording. They had to keep it alive for Travis. He watched as she changed it to him needing to do it, and wondered if that was because she wasn't ready for the full responsibility yet or if she was just worried about his reaction. "Yeah, we can let him believe that one a little longer" He said with a tenative smile hoping he wouldnt be pushing her away. He nodded as she mentioned things roaming in the woods being scarier. "You should always be careful out there, but our reservation is safe"
Nash was nervous telling her about the legends of the tribe, even if when he was telling them he wasnt telling them to her as if they were true. She asked him directly if he believed in vampires. "I dont think I believe they're like the movies, but some probably scarier variation, yeah" He admitted then smiled at her "You think I'm silly for believing in that kinda stuff?" He then nodded as she asked about vampires being in the woods. "Not on our land but they could be out there...and they're a lot scarier than wolves...I'm not trying to scare you with all this stuff"

His smile was amazing, from the first moment she’d seen it in the airport Dal had been drawn to it and even now she couldn’t help smiling back at him. There was no teasing or humor in her smile, more a show of the love she felt even if she couldn’t say it to him. “It is.” She said nodding again her mind clouded by the love she felt as she looked at him. She had a very open mind, even more so after arriving in the US up until then she’d never believed in love at first sight yet she was crazy in love with Nash from the first moment she saw him; anything could happen. Dal felt as if something was missing with out Travis racing around and talking happily. She missed him, but was glad to have a night alone with Nash they had such little time alone less after been caught. “Yea, its quiet without him. Its weird when we’re all here and you’re not; like a piece is missing.” Lyndal always felt like something was missing when she wasn’t with Nash even when she was at school or if he was just in the other room, it was a feeling that was getting stronger the long he was in her life.
It made Dal happy to hear that he liked spending time alone with her too, sometimes Lyndal worried that her time alone with Nash pushed Travis out, or that he didn’t want to be with her as much as she wanted to be with him. There was so much she worried about been with him, but she still knew she loved him. “I like been alone with you too.” she said with a shy quietness.
There were a few things she still believed in that Lyndal knew he’d laugh at, not that she minded though she hoped he’d find it sweet and endearing. When she sliped in the we then changed it it wasn’t because she didn’t want the responsibility, she loved Travis very much and wanted to share in his life with Nash. Hearing Nash say We Lyndal smiled. “Yea we can let him have that a whole longer.” She said this time using the term with more confidence as she continued to smile at him.
Lyndal wasn’t sure she really understood what she was meant to be careful of, she was street smart and hardly went anywhere alone. And of course she knew the Rez was safe, hardly anyone even locked their doors. “Its hardly New York out there, Nash. But thank you for looking out for me.” she said as she reached out to squeeze his fore arm in a gesture of thanks. Just like every time she touched him she noticed the raised heat of his skin and firm muscles underneath. The temperature always made her worry about him getting sick, he worked so hard.
The conversation seemed to moving more and more in to mythology as they discussed Vampires. Vampires were something Dal was sure she couldn’t believe in, they were just old stories and silly movies. “That’s good because the movies are hardly believable.” she said with a smirk as he said the real ones were probably scarier.
“No I don’t think you’re silly, I just didn’t know you went in for all this stuff.” She said realizing there was probably a lot of stuff she didn’t know about him. His next words sounded so serious and Dal realized he did believe in what he was saying. “Nash, are you serious that vampires are real? What about werewolves, like the ones in the tribe’s legends?” she asked letting her own voice fill with the serious tone, she wanted to know what he thought about these things.

Nash gave a light smile as he heard her describe how it felt like something was missing when e wasnt there. It only reassured him that she felt the same way he did, or at least to some degree. "Since you've been here, I can't imagine not having you here, we'd definitely be missing something" He told her, thinking he might be rushing things a little too much to tell her that no matter where he was if she wasnt there he was missing his other half. He knew she was his soulmate, but such a strong declaration was something he wasnt sure she could handle.
Nash smiled as she said how she liked being alone with him too. He gently rubbed her arm. "We should plan more time for just us" He told her softly. He loved being with his son, and loved it being the three of them, but knew that they did need time for themselves too.
Nash nodded happily as Lyndal agreed that they'd let Travis believe in the tooth fairy a bit longer. It was easier to talk about things like the tooth fairy than to go back to the werewolf and vampire talk that was still looming over this conversation.
He laughed lightly as she said how the movies were hardly believable. "They do seem a bit overly dramatic" He said, though now he could easily pick out what the movies had gotten right and what was just hollywood magic.
"Yeah, I think it could all be out there" Nash said. "Do you believe in any of it" He asked her, doubting she did from the way she was asking but wondering if she even thought it could exist. She then asked him straight out if vampires and werewolves were real like in the legends. He didnt know how to answer her. He felt nervous and flustered. " Well its what the legends say...shouldnt doubt your elders" he said with a nervous laugh. "You're going to have nightmares tonight if you keep thinking about this stuff"

His words echoed everything she felt. Lyndal believed even if she’d never come to America and met Nash, she’d still feel like there was something missing; incomplete “I can’t imagine not been here either. I can’t imagine not been around you.” She smiled nervously knowing the it seemed like a very forward thing to say. Lyndal know if he didn’t feel the same for her she could end up sounding like a silly teenage girl with a crush, but she wanted to take the risk. Spending time alone with him she knew there was something growing between them.
It sounded nice, planning time to be alone with him. It sounded just as nice the idea of been alone with Him and Travis, just the three of them. “That would be great, we should try to be alone more. And spend more time alone with Travis.” Dal wanted him to like her and wanted him to feel comfortable around her, her biggest worry was that he’d feel pushed out by her closeness to his father.
To anyone else Lyndal was sure their conversation would seem crazy; werewolves, vampires and the tooth fairy. She smiled at their topics and nodded as they agreed to let Travis believe in the tooth fairy a little longer. It was new to Dal to be included in such a decision but she like him including her.
Lyndal laughed along with Nash as she commented on the mythical beings seeming to be overly dramatic in the movies. “Of course they are, that’s what movies are all about.” She said as she stopped laughing and looked at him quizzically, “You seem like a real believer in all this. You watched one too many of those sci fi shows I think.” She said teasing him lightly as she reached for his hand wanting him to know she meant no harm.
“I think maybe back in the old days, early days of earth maybe, but not now. I think we’d know if they’re were vampires and werewolves roaming the world.” she said honestly doubting that there was little science didn’t know about now in the modern age. “But its nice to think that some mythical things exist.” She smiled thinking about the nice mythical creatures not the ones of their current conversation.
Dal noticed he seemed nervous as he answered and she wondered if it was really as simple as believing his elders, she nodded. “Yea, back home the natives believe in a lot of things we don’t even understand. So we let them hold on to their beliefs.” She said speaking about myths of home.
“I’m not going to have nightmares knowing you’re asleep in the next room.” She said honestly as she laughed. Part of Lyndal wished he wasn’t just in the next room, she wished she was in his room with him as she was most weekend mornings once the house was empty. “I can’t have nightmares or I’ll fall asleep in class.” She laughed knowing it wouldn’t be the first time.
