All night Rayen had sat up thinking and rethinking about what she was going to do she knew there was no way she could tell Tai about the child, he would stay for her and their baby and give up his dreams; she wouldn’t ruin it for him. It wasn’t that she didn’t want the perfect family life, that would be amazing but not now and not the way it was happening. People might think she didn’t love Tai, but the truth was Rayen knew she loved him more then anything; she loved him and their baby with all she had.
What she’d sat up thinking about was how she could get him to leave, go away and not come back for her. Rayen knew she couldn’t risk surprise visits, sudden urges to see her, or even phone calls; when Tai left the rez Rayen had to be sure it was for good. She doubted he’d come back to visit his parents, infact she was hoping he wouldn’t. there was only one thing she could come up with to make him walk out of her life. She knew she has to make him so mad he’d hate her, there was only one thing she could thing of to make that happen - she had to break his heart.
The morning had brought no other ideas, or any other options. Leaving before breakfast, even before her parents were up she headed to Tai’s house. Ray just hoped she had the courage to go through it. Ever since she’d taken the test and found out she was carrying his child all she’d wanted to do was fall into his arms and be held. Now she was willingly throwing it all away. Her stomach churned and by now she knew it wasn’t just the morning sickness that was making her so sick, it was more the thought of what she was about to do. Would anyone ever forgive her if they found out? Tai, the baby, her parents, his parents? Rayen wasn’t even sure she could forgive herself, but she knew it had to be done.
Climbing the steps to his house Ray braced herself and tried to mask her emotions as much as possible. All she could think about was what and who she was throwing away, family, future, father, lover. He was the only man she had ever loved, and even in her hormonal teenage mind logic told her he was the only man she would ever love. Her mind swam, her heart ached and her stomach churned as she knocked on the door blinking rapidly to push back the tears laying there.

Life had been fairly simple for Tai so far. He had gotten through high school without too much hassle, though that was mostly thanks to Rayen. She was the one that made him study occasionally, and as pathetic as it was, he would rather spend time with her in her room looking over trig and calc books than sit in his own room alone playing video games or practicing ball outside. Okay, so sometimes he abandoned her to get some field practice, but it was needed sometimes – he didn’t become the school’s best player by magic.
At this time, in the early morning, the teenage Tai was lying comatose in his bed. Graduation had happened and all he needed to do was speak to Rayen about moving in with him at college so that they could be together properly. It was inevitable for them really and a small smile played on his lips as he dreamed about their little flat. In reality there was no way they would be in someone as nice as his imagination took them until they had at least graduated from college, but it was still a nice scene playing out in front of him. He had just been approached by a major league team, she had begun to develop a freelance business franchise that allowed her to move around with him. It was perfect, happening in too much of a strange order for it to be true, but Tai was blissfully unaware at that point.
That was until his slumber was interrupted by the rapping on the front door followed by a ‘Tai, Taiomah!’ from his mother. He groaned and shifted in bed so that he could see the florescent numbers of the alarm clock on his bedside table. Six AM… he hadn’t been up this early since, well, the day that the university scouts had visited the school. That had been a crazy day, but it had worked. The scholarship he had earned wasn’t just the stuff of dreams.
“Coming,” he yelled back, his voice gruff and thick with sleep. He rubbed his eyes and yawned widely, wondering who could be visiting him at this time. There was only one person he could actually think of and as he realised this, his brain cleared and the smile that had graced his face in sleep returned. This was a nice surprise. Nicer if it came an hour later, but whatever, he’d deal.
He pulled himself up from his bed with some effort and was in the process of pulling on the sweats that he’d kicked off during the night – it had been too warm under the covers. He didn’t bother with a shirt, even if his mother wouldn’t approve, but the main issue would be his father and luckily the old man would have left for work already. He padded down the stairs oblivious to the trouble that his girlfriend was in and smiled at her, his hair in disarray, as he caught sight of her at the door.
“Ray,” he said in greeting, his voice warm, if sleepy. He carried on wandering until he got to the door and then caught sight of her expression. A small frown immediately creased his brow. “Hey, are you alright? Come in!” Concern overwhelmed him and he extended his strong arms, drawing her into his warm embrace.

It was early, even for their school days it would be early, but this couldn’t wait. Rayen knew if she took time and had come over at a normal time she’d have found a way to think herself out of it. Rayen knew she was probably the last person Mr and Mrs Keshawn wanted to see for any reason, but she knew she would be even less welcome if they knew why she was really there.
After greeting Mrs Keshawn politely Rayen explained she needed to see Tai and that it was important. Hearing his mother yell his name Ray felt her stomach do a flip in excitement and nerves, even though she was about to break up with him and probably break both their hearts she was still happy to just see him. Even though seeing him would be the end of them, she knew she had to remember this moment to hold on to his face and any touch he gave her. “Thanks” Ray smiled to his mom trying to appear calm and not nearly as sick as she felt.
When the gruff, sleepy voice came from above Ray knew she’d woken him, not that she expected him to be doing anything else at that time of the morning. His voice sounded to husky, Rayen felt her body react just to the sound of his voice and knew this meeting was going to be a lot harder with al her emotions and hormones reaching out to him, after all she carried a piece of both of them now.
Catching Tai’s smile Rayen felt her own lips return the smile even pushing back the tears she wanted to shed. Even when she should be trying to portray guilt and sadness all she could feel was love. Seeing his half clothed body and bed hair she remember the other times she’d seen him in the same state or less. Most recently the one time that had gotten them to where they were now. Pulling her jacket around her Ray let her smile floor and wanting to walk away from it all.
“Morning Tai.” Rayen said hoping to sound a lot less frantic, overwhelmed and heart broken she was already feeling. Looking up at him she saw his brow crease and knew he knew there was something wrong. Although Tai could come off as little more then a jock, Rayen knew there was a lot more to him; she knew him better then almost anyone.
As he pulled her to him Rayen really wasn’t sure how she was going to say and do what she’d come to his home to do. She tried to relax into his embrace, but found the guilt of her secret stopped her; maybe it would help set the mood and tone. “Actually maybe we should talk out here. In private” She suggested pulling back from his embrace and thrusting her arms into her pockets as she shifted her weight between her feet. Her hands brushed her slightly bloated tummy through her coat and spurred her on. “I have to talk to you Tai. Its kind of important.” She said seriously.

Always pleased when he could pull his girlfriend out of her sour or sad moods with just a smile and a hug, Tai embraced her with all the feeling he could, kissing her on the top of her head as he rocked her slightly. He wondered what could have possibly gotten her so upset – a fight with her parents or sister? He couldn’t see that being the case and they’d already graduated, so it wasn’t to do with school… unless she wanted to go to a different college. But then he wouldn’t mind that so much, she was bright and should have her pick of colleges; he would visited her every weekend and she could come watch his games.
“Morning, sweetheart,” he said warmly in response to her greeting. His tone was low and warm, like syrup. The small frown that disrupted the smoothness of his brow intensified a little as he failed to feel her relax in his arms, which was unusual to say the least. He lifted one of his hands and brushed the hair out of her face and behind her ear tenderly, looking at her questioningly as she pulled away from him, which was even more unusual. They were a very close couple in every sense; this didn’t make sense. It was at that point that a few seeds of doubt began to sow themselves.
“Ray, what’s wrong?” he asked, the warmth of his voice replaced by confusion, a little wariness and some concern. He reached forward and took her hand, trying again to comfort her in the only ways that he knew how. “Whatever it is, we’ll get through it, you can tell me.” He smiled at her encouragingly.

Been held by Tai was not what Rayen needed and that was a feeling she never expected to feel. Usually the touch of Tai’s body against hers was something she graved and relished, now it felt wrong been in his arms and knowing what she knew. What Rayen was hard and his hug hadn’t helped, in fact after the hug a part of her was truly wishing she could just tell him she had a live they created growing inside of her.
Pulling back and away from his body was the only way ray knew to be able to go on with the task that had brought her to his door so early. His voice sounded amazing to her, a sound that could normally cause her heart to flutter and a smile break out, not now. “Morning.” She repeated stalling for her mind to catch up with the actions her body had taken. As he reached up to move her hair her own hand followed and pull the hair back forward of her ear, she needed the shelter the little piece of hair offered.
Tai’s constant attempts to comfort her and maintain contact didn’t help her were slightly irritating Ray in her tired emotional state and she tried to hold that irritation as she took a breath to speak. Her words were going to change everything she knew and counted on. Tai was her the only man she’d ever loved or ever wanted to love and now she had to make him hate her so he’d leave and not try to stay with her. He couldn’t know about their child, he had to have his shot at the big time that she knew he deserved. “Tai, this isn’t something we can get through.” She said trying to shake of his arm so she could wrap it around herself.
Looking up at his encouraging smile almost disarmed her, but with her free hand resting on her still flat stomach she felt the spur to continue. “I didn’t mean for it to happen, it was a mistake and I’m sorry.” Rayen said letting her words tumble not thinking about them or what would happen next. “It didn’t mean anything at the time, but now….” She trailed off unsure what was next.
