[Mid-Eclipse]
A whole hour. It had been an entire hour that Reid had been sitting on the entirely too small plastic chair outside the guidance counselor's office. How hard could it be to counsel someone? They tell you what they need, you counsel them yes, no, blueberry pie. Something! This couldn't possibly take an entire hour to talk to some other kid. It's not like there were kids just like Reid who actually had a fighting chance after high school. He leaned his head back, uncomfortable and felt the thud against the wall where he collided with it. He sighed heavily in aggravation and forcefully kicked his book bag to the other side of the hallway where it flopped pathetically. He heard a small group of freshmen giggle who had apparently had been staring at him until he'd abused his bag. They realized that they'd been discovered, and scurried off. Reid rolled his eyes, unamused. Freshmen girls, yea right.
The worst part about waiting this long was that he just needed to see the lady for a total of 2 minutes. All she had to do was sign the stupid paper and he could mail it off to UNC. Two freaking minutes. Of course, she would probably stall him with loads of unnecessary advice and congratulations, but he just needed the paper signed. He knew he had done well, and he knew that he deserved it. He was just waiting for the day to hit the road and never look back. This place was holding him back and he needed out. He closed his eyes and tried to remember the map he'd pulled up in the school's computer lab; direct route to North Carolina.

As Baya turned the corner, headed for the guidance counselor's office she saw a bookbag get punted across the hall and a group of Freshman girls scurrying off. Freshmen, so immature. She looked over opposite the bookbag and saw the reasons for their staring, Reid Garwin. Obviously one of the more attractive males in school, and also her somewhat friend. She started walking towards the office, her schedule in hand. She had intended to meet with her counselor to try to arrange to have a study hall put into her schedule. As long as she met the graduation requirements she didn't see why she couldn't lighten her courseload a little.
She walk past the girls who were fleeing the scene and stopped across from Reid, kicking the bookbag back over to him with her heeled boots before crossing the hall so that she was on the same side as him. "Hey Reid, I see you're putting on a little show for the youngsters" She said with a smile, teasing him a bit about the attention.

His eyes snapped open to the ceiling when he felt the canvas of his bag meet his feet again, propelled by a voice that he recognized. Great. Because he really wanted company while waiting for someone's therapy session to end. His only consolation was that Baya wasn't so bad. She had wits and was easy on the eyes. But it barely took the irritation out of his tone. "Don't pretend you didn't enjoy it too," he retorted, closing his eyes again. They were on generally friendly terms as far as girls went. He respected that she didn't fawn over him like other girls, though it intrigued him just a bit. They'd pissed each other off enough in the past to know about buttons and the pressure applied, but somehow stayed away from disliking each other. If he wasn't so intent on leaving La Push, he might have actually missed her.
"No," he said crossing his arms, eyes still closed, "You can't have my autograph before graduation." He sounded serious and irritated still, but the ghost of a smirk threatened to appear on his lips, which he struggled to control.

"Please, my dog is more entertaining that that little show" Baya told him, rolling her eyes slightly, but with a small smirk indicating that she had found some amusement in watching the way the other girls acted around him. His little temper tantrum with the bag on the other hand, she found nothing interesting in. He always seemed to walk around this place with a chip on his shoulder and like he was too good for this place so she didn't bother asking him what was up today, if he felt like talking to her, he would.
Baya smiled at his comment about the autograph. "Oh how will I ever live without it" The sad thing was that she knew that some of the girls around here would squeal with delight to get his autograph. "So have you started your countdown to graduation yet? Got it down to the very second you walk out for good?"

Yea, it looked like it was gonna be one of those days with her. The kind where she acted like a smart ass and tried to be funny or whatever. It was at least different from the stuttering and giggling from other girls, but that didn't mean Reid could live with it. For some reason, this girl thought he was up for her remarks. "Whatever, Ravengirl," he mumbled. He'd called her that a few times before, hoping it would annoy her. It wasn't anything offensive, but his tone always implied he was thinking along the lines of 'Cat Lady" or "Swamp Monster". Either way, he used it every once in a while, usually smirking in his own attempt to throw her off.
Like everyone else he talked to, Baya was well aware of Reid's eagerness to leave La Push. He was sure she had heard him several times gloating about stuffing his truck to hit the road, his acceptance letter to UNC, his scholarship etc. "Three weeks, 2 days," he blurted, still not looking at her, arms crossed. "Then you won't see me again until someone important gets married or something." Even then, he wasn't sure he'd be convinced to come back for that.

Baya raised her eyebrows slightly at his comment but otherwise completely ignored his Ravengirl comment. It only bothered her because she knew he meant it as an insult. She didn't let it get to her too much and sighed softly as she leaned against the wall, knowing that there'd be a wait to get to the counselor today. It meant she'd have to put up with Reid and his bad mood until at least one of them was being seen.
She couldnt help but smile as he mentioned getting out and not coming back until someone important got married. She shook her head knowing he was probably telling the truth but hard to believe he had that much distaste for the area. Sure there wasn't much here, but she knew it could be a lot worse. "Well to you there arent many people that fit that description" She said wondering if there was anyone he considered important enough to come back for. She certainly didnt expect him to come back whenever she got married, even if they were friends.

If Reid's eyes were open and attentive, they would have rolled at Baya's further prodding. At this point he wasn't sure if he didn't prefer one of the giggling freshmen, at least he could tell them to just go away and they'd do it and forgive his harshness for whatever reason that was associated with their infatuation with him. But Baya, he knew, would never take a stray comment like that lightly. It was probably the reason why he didn't tell her off right then. Not that he was afraid of invoking her little girly wrath, but because she demanded respect that he had no reason to deny. In a sense, he didn't mind someone who didn't take crap from anyone else, even if it was himself.
"Well, then I guess I'm safe," he said, also knowing that weddings among them were few and far between, and even less among the people he might be actually interested in coming to see. There would be very few circumstances that would entice him to make the long trek home once he'd left. "Besides, I'm not sure anyone would miss me being there." For anyone else saying something like that, it would have sounded as if they were afraid of being forgotten. But with Reid, he just knew that his presence wasn't something important, and he wasn't inclined to make it so. No one would miss him, and he wouldn't miss them.

With anyone else it would have bothered Baya to see that they weren't even opening their eyes to have a conversation with her. But she knew that was just another one of Reid's quirks. The other girls would think she was lucky that he was even talking to her, but she didn't see it that way. She did consider him a friend, so he better damn well talk to her. His attitude she'd just put up with.
"They'd probably be more shocked if you actually stepped foot back on the rez rather than by you missing anything big" Baya told him knowing it was true. She really guessed that the only time he might return would be for his siblings weddings, or when his parents eventually passed away (if they were even still living here). She knew that even though Reid believed he wouldnt be missed there were people who would miss him. His family for sure, and believe it or not, Baya herself. "I might miss you a couple times over the years...if I'm surrounded by people without a sense of humor"

Reid shrugged his shoulders slightly. He knew that most people didn't expect him to come back. Anyone else would have resented the comment, but it actually suited him just fine. He actually wasn't planning on coming back, and any of his family needed to be dying, marrying or setting their house on fire for him to come back. And then there were those who tried to lecture him about family and tradition, saying that one day he'd find a reason to come back, that they weren't worried about him. He just let them ramble their nostalgic crap, and ignored them completely. At least Baya knew he wasn't bluffing; there was at least one person on the rez that he counted on not being stupid.
Her last words made a smirk appear on his indifferent face, and his eyes opened slowly to tease his friend. "So you'll miss me, huh?" He found it unlikely, but he couldn't help give her a hard time about it. He instantly caught the compliment that was hidden in her words, and catalogued it for later use.

A small smile appeared on Baya's face as she shook her read realizing the admission that she had made in her last statement. Of course he'd pick up on it and not just let a comment like that slide by. She would do the same if things were reversed between them. She even believed that there was a part of him that would miss her too, not frequently or strong enough to make him want to come back, but just on those few occaisions he thought back to life here and realized he had a few friends who weren't half bad.
"Once in awhile, I didn't say it would be often" Baya teased him lightly. "Don't let it get to your head, even if you wont admit it you know you'll miss me too, even if you never miss the rez or the beach. You'll be wishing you had a friend who could put up with you."

Reid let out a little huff of amusement, not bothering to even give her comment a full chuckle. "It's ok," he told her, closing his eyes again, leaning back, "I'll let you be the president of my fan club. You can be in charge of crowd-control since they can get a little rowdy." He vaguely wondered if Baya had ever had a crush on him; if there would ever a person who didn't fall into a trend as the one he had discovered himself to be the center of, it was Baya. At first it had been kind of cool, but it had lost its novelty when they started to get into his business all the time.
Instead of saying anything serious, he kept his mouth shut. There had been a time when he would have been reluctant to leave La Push. He had been so into their languages and culture, he loved being Quileute and his family. Somewhere along the line, it had all been corrupted, and now he couldn't wait to get out. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat with the prospect of leaving Washington high and dry, but he brushed his doubts off and hid behind his cynical shell. "I'll make sure I'll set up a PO Box for you guys.

“Like I’d ever even be a member of your fan club” Baya said shaking her head. She was not a little fangirl like some of the other girls around here were. She didn’t follow him around like a lost puppydog giggling anytime he looked their way. It was an insult to be lumped in with that group. She would miss him, but she knew she wouldn’t let that on too strongly. She knew once he was gone, the rez would probably forget about him soon anyway, just as he would forget all about them.
Baya watched Reid shifting in his seat and wondered if what she had said to him had actually gotten to him. She hoped she hadn’t sounded too cruel about being the only friend to put up with him. Reid could be difficult at times but she knew he was good guy, it was why she did put up with him. He had potential. Or maybe he was just realizing he would miss her too, it was a big step for him to leave the rez. Maybe it was harder for him than he let on. She wasn’t sure she’d ever want to leave. It was home.
“Leave it for the freshman. It can be your senior gift to the school. Maybe they’ll put up a shrine to you” She said sarcastically.

Despite his rush to get this last errand done with the counselor and the need to just get out of there, Reid didn't really mind finding himself in a chance encounter with Baya. He found his shoulder relaxing a bit, though he didn't release himself from his pose. Arms still crossed, his eyes unwillingly opened, though he didn't bother looking at her. He merely stared at the ceiling; his peripheral vision slightly registering Baya's shape to the side. He heard the bustle of students walking past the door that lead to the hall they were occupying, and wondered if anyone could see them sitting there awkwardly outside the office.
"Uh, yea..." he retorted dryly. "I think they'll do fine without me. He knew he had a bit of an ego, but he highly doubted anyone would really care. "I guess you'll have to mourn your loss on your on."

Baya was getting a bit annoyed as she watched Reid just continue to sit there, staring up at the ceiling instead of over at her, even though they were talking to each other. She was used to his attitude but it still did get to her every now and then. She wasn't used to guys acting like this around her. And Reid was one of the few who could get away with it and she'd still talk to him, mostly because she knew it wasn't anything personal, just how he was.
Baya rolled her eyes and shook her head as he spoke of her mourning his loss on her own. "I think you're just projecting your own feelings onto me now. " She told him. "You'll miss this place, and the people, a lot more than you think you will" She said sure of herself.

Of all people Reid knew, he'd almost been sure that Baya wouldn't have been one of the people who would give him grief over being an ass. She'd always known how he was, and he'd at least respected that she hadn't tried to convert him to some lovable kid everyone wanted him to be because it was the only element that kept him from being worthy of all the popularity he'd gained. It was as if he were somehow damaged, and everyone seemed to think it was their responsibility of providing him with a better attitude.
After hearing Baya's accusation, Reid had had enough. He finally lifted the top of his head from the wall, unfolded his arms to pivot in his seat and face her. His expression was neutral, even bored, but his voice was tinged with the irritation of what she'd said. "And I think that you've been hanging around with all the other empty-headed girls of this school enough to think that something cute you say will change my mind." He looked at her, watching for her expression, and shook his head in disappointment. "Get over yourself."
