Baya had never seen Reid as a project to fix, or damaged as he may have seen himself. His attitude was just that, his own, a part of his personality, which although might be nice to have an adjustment every once in awhile, was who he was. She didnt mind how he felt towards the reservation or the other people there, but people he was supposed to be friends with, or at least familiar acquaintances, she thought deserved more respect than he usually gave. She thought she deserved more.
Finally something Baya had said caused him to at least look at her, but his look and words werent what she expected or wanted to hear. No one got away with insulting her. "I'm not trying to act cute, and I dont have dillusions that what I say will actually get through that thick skull of yours anyway." She retorted. "Enjoy your misery"

"Oh give me a break," he interjected as soon as she ended her little pronouncement. "Why is it that just because I don't want to be everyone's best friend it must mean I'm miserable? I'm so sick of all of it... and you wonder why I'm so ready to leave." Baya had been one of the very few that had ever been able to really challenge Reid either by nerve or intelligence, and now his blood was beginning to boil. "The only thing you people are good at is judging on what you don't even get. Why is leaving so bad? Enlighten me, please."
This time he leaned back a bit, this time squaring his shoulders as a challenge, folding his arms and awaiting her instruction. "Everyone's already told me why I should stay or why I would miss everyone." He compiled his memories into one and saw the faces of those who were supposed to support him throw him under the bus. "Ask me how many times someone's asked me what I thought."

"I never offered to be your best friend, and maybe to you and your limited view of the world, you think you're not miserable, but believe me, if you actually had friends to talk to, real ones, you'd see having friends isn't all that bad and that what you call life now, is miserable in comparison" Baya said annoyed by the way he was talking to her. But also annoyed at herself for letting him get to her.
"First of all, don't refer to me as "you people", just like you I'm an individual person, I have my own thoughts, and I don't claim to be the spokesperson for anyone else. " Baya started off on him as he asked her to explain what was so bad about leaving. "And I never said leaving was bad. There's nothing wrong with going someplace else, I just was hoping maybe you'd see that there's nothing wrong with our reservation either. There's nothing bad about staying, or visiting, or living here. We don't have mansions, or sports cars, but we have culture and values here, it's nothing to need to run away from."
She frowned slightly as he told him how people didn't ask what he thought, only told him how he should feel or what he should do. "So now I'm asking...tell me what you're thinking?"

Aside becoming increasingly irritated with her banter, Reid could feel his disappointment growing as well. Every time he tried to indulge everyone else and have a real conversation, he was proven right again. All anyone ever had to say was how wrong he was about everything. It was stupid of him to think that maybe Baya would have been a little bit different. But she sounded just like them. His head began to shake and his jaw dropped slightly while she spoke, because she sounded ridiculous. "Cars and mansions?" he asked severely, his voice dropping as he felt a tinge of anger sprouting from the frustration at the idea. He was speechless for a moment before he continued. "If you think that that is what all of this is about, then you're even more clueless than everyone else; I obviously gave you more credit than you deserve," he spat at her, trying to convey disgust rather than show that she had truly offended him. Of course it would have been easier to at least give her some insight as to why he was so intent on leaving, but that was something Reid wasn't prepared to do with anyone. "I'm not running away, or whatever you want to call it. I'm simply relieving everyone of whatever burden I represent." The statement was vague enough for her to get little meaning of it, but he hoped she got the feeling that it was more complicated than she or anyone else thought.
At that, he had had enough. He would rather wait another two hours and try again to see the counselor than to sit next to Baya. "What I'm thinking, or ever was thinking, was something no one ever cared for before," he told her, bending over and picking up his bag from the floor. "Don't pretend like people are going to start giving a shit now."

"You don't give me or anyone else in this rez enough credit, so get off your high horse" Baya told him not backing down. She knew Reid had an attitude that wasn't a surprise but she wasn't used to him being this argumentative, at least not towards her, usually they got along fairly decent. "What's your problem today Reid?" She asked him out right, not going to beat around the bush.
"So you're not running away, but you don't represent some burden either" She said scoffing a bit at his vague answer, wondering if he even knew his own reasons. She watched him pick up his bag and knew he was getting ready to leave.
Baya reached out and grabbed the top of his bag, keeping her hand on it to keep him from leaving. She leaned over and looked him in the eye, more seriously but also calmly. "Hey...I already told you, I'm not people, or their spokesperson and right now you have me caring for a little longer before you say something to blow that" She said warning him but leaving her own attitude out of it. "Talk to me, tell me what you're thinking"

Baya had barely touched him with the side of her own hand as she tried to stop him before he quickly reacted to the sensation by snatching his hand away. It was an unusual feeling, this growing irritation he was experiencing. Though he had always had a bad attitude, it was usually manifested as sarcasm, indifference... never anger. He wondered if this had anything to do with the recent changes coming into his life, because he really couldn't tie it to anything else, really. His solution was usually to just walk away and ignore whatever was bothering him, which he had already attempted, but Baya trying to stop him had tapped into a store of anger he never realized he had.
"Just forget it, Baya," he responded, standing up, slinging his bag around his shoulder. He didn't bother looking at her. He simply turned away from her and walked out.
