[Late Twilight: tag to the Cullens, the three Nomads and Bella, of course ] The clearing opened wide before Rosalie's topaz eyes when she'd arrived just behind the others in her family. The thunder rolled deeply at a distance; it would be loud enough to mask their outing for the evening. She had been pleased when Alice had seen the storm a few towns over, which had prompted Emmett's suggestion for thunderball. She recognized the little sparkle in his eye that was associated with anything athletic, and had immediately jumped up at the chance to join. Once Carlisle had agreed to play, it had made the game perfect, save for one thing. The human. Of course Alice had to get all excited and tell Edward about the storm and the game before Bella had left the house. He had naturally invited her to come along. Any entertainment that Rose would have gained from the evening was already ruined by the girl's presence and Edward's sickening obsession over her.
She just didn't understand what it was about her. This horribly plain girl had somehow sparked the interest of her brother and he, like the oversensitive idiot that he was, had crumbled at her feet and had revealed himself (and the rest of the family) to her. She'd always known that there was something off with Edward, but this was just beyond comprehension. You would think that after 80 years, she would have seen and heard it all. Leave it to Edward to find something else to go arrogantly go against like he always did.
Nevertheless, she would not let the obnoxious girl that had a dangerous hold on their secret lives ruin her fun. She came to play ball with Emmett and her family. She would ignore her like the insignificant being that she was. It was only a matter of time before Edward overestimated his control and just ended her life.
Now that she thought about it, perhaps she could use her presence as an advantage over Edward. He was severely overprotective over her. She might just be able to distract him, even if he promises that he doesn't cheat by peaking into their minds during the game. She crossed the clearing at a slow, human pace, listening to the family members that had arrived with her, wondering if Emmett would go along with her plan.

Emmett This was going to be perfect, absolutely perfect. A storm was rolling in and he found the best moment to suggest a ball game. Could it get any better? Well, besides the fact that Edward was bringing Bella and that he could get a little over-excited and snap her neck with just a hug, yea everyone had to think about that. Thinking of that made him worry a tiny bit but he had faith in his peeping tom of a brother, he was even starting to like Bella even a little. Hell, everyone was: except Rosalie. His brow wrinkled slightly as he thought of all the things that could happen but then a loud crack of thunder just happened to catch his attention. His pale pink lips spread into a cocky smile as he shifted his feet from side to side and switched his baseball cap to the side also. Loking over to see Rosa pass him slowly, he took a few steps forward and caught her around the waist. Darting forward he panted a quick kiss on her cheek which was smooth and soft to him but of course iron hard and cold as ice to others. Falling to step beside her he saw her expression and knew exactly what was wrong; the human. Sighing he said in a playful voice as he caught her blonde strands that blew around her in between his fingers. "Come on babe, it`s just a game today. I`ll even let you strike me out." The corners of his mouth lifted when he saw the others and he raised his hand for a few short seconds. Looking down at his lady love he bent down and kissed her lightly on the lips. Another crack of thunder rumbled again, this time louder and accompanied by a bright touch of lightning. Seeing this he let out a howl and sped to home plate.

When she'd seen the outcome of the weather, Alice just had to tell the family about Emmett initiating a game of Thunderball, it would be a great opportunity for Bella to spend some quality time with everyone. Get to know them so to speak. Of course, Rosalie had found it an annoyance and wasn't afraid to show her dislike for Edward's girlfriend or the whole ordeal, but once the game had started everything would be as normal as it could get. Alice smiled, more like grinned, at the opportunity to be with Bella, "It'll be soon," she spoke, loudly enough for her family to hear, Edward hadn't gotten to the field yet. A few strikes of thundar began to erupted around them, echoing in the mountains, but without the rest of the family it was more like a warm-up for them.
A game of ball would also do Jasper good, the mood at home had been a little more than strained, but that would change when everything began. Grabbing the baseball, Alice tossed it into the air a couple of times, it appeared as if it had never left her hand to the naked human eye though very much was being cast into the air, "Want to toss it around a couple of times?" She'd turned to look at Jasper, motioning with the ball, though of course she knew the outcome but it was nice to at least ask before dragging him across the field.
Alice tossed the ball to him, it seemed to disappear, before walking off toward the middle of the field, her ungloved hands waiting

Victoria's bare feet didn't make a sound against the ground as she ran, her swift movements just a blur in the trees as she traveled. Her hand was clasped tightly in James', who was leading the way with Laurent just behind her. They had fed in Seattle and decided to head south from there, but when they reached the tip of the Puget Sound, the Pacific Coast had caught their interest. Abandoning their original path, they headed west to the coastline and then north from there, seeking out any kind of interesting hunt that could satisfy their bloodlust. Laurent may not be in on their cruel games, but that didn't stop James and Victoria from having a little fun any time they wanted.
They ended up reaching as far north as they could get before running into the Pacific Ocean, and decided to turn back south again. Victoria was more than disappointed when nothing came of their little side trip, her frustration building at the lack of excitement in their kills. She would have to ditch Laurent soon and take James somewhere private before she went and massacred an entire town. That wouldn't exactly be discreet, and she was sure the Volturi would be a little ticked off at the mess.
A storm was rolling in then, the distant sounds of thunder rumbling drawing closer. Dark grey clouds covered the sky, blocking out the sun and casting a gloomy feel. She hoped it wouldn't start to rain, she had just recently acquired a new set of clothes and didn't exactly want to be drenched in the middle of the forest. The wolf furs were soft against her skin and she preferred them that way.
Victoria didn't complain, though, but continued to follow James wherever he was leading them.

Esme enjoyed the family outings like this. It was nice for a change not to have to hunt while they were all out together. Esme let her gold colored eyes roam up to look at the sky as a crack of thunder rocked the the mountains nearby. It was unfortunate that they had to play in storming weather, but Esme didn't mind so much since she would be around her family.
Removing her eyes from the dark clouds above she looked out into the open field that would serve as the place of their family baseball game. She strode across the field to the place Emmett and Rosalie stood. Esme would not be participating in the game, she rarely did. Rather she would be observing, making sure none of them cheated. As she reached the happy couple she smiled at them. She took in the expression on Rosalie's face. "Yes Rose, it is just a game today, Bella will not cause any problems. So please behave yourself," Esme told her.
Esme, unlike Rosalie, did not mind Bella. In fact, she welcomed Bella into their home and lives with open arms. She was just happy that Edward had found someone to make him happy. Esme would sit on the sidelines today with Bella since Bella would not be able to play their form of baseball.

Carlisle worked through his shift at the hospital with a permanent smile on his face, in a much sunnier mood than usual. Well, perhaps not sunnier, as he was known for always being in a good mood, but he was certainly more excited. He had only been there for a few hours when he got the call from Alice asking if he was free that evening for a game of Thunderball. It wasn’t often he got to enjoy something so trivial as a game of their baseball equivalent and he was looking forward to it immensely.
He was even looking forward to showing Bella another aspect of their life after the impression they had made trying to cook her dinner. He knew that there was still some tension in the family in accepting Bella’s presence, namely lying in Rosalie, but he could see that she made Edward happy and that was the most important thing. For now he would treat her as a breakable member of the family and protect her accordingly, for that was what she was.
Carlisle’s day did, eventually come to an end during the afternoon and as he ran to the field they would play the clouds began to gather, making it almost as black as night. Before he had even made it to their usual playing area he could hear the vague murmurs of their talk and the odd whistle of the ball in the air. It was just as he reached the level playing field that the thunder began to rumble, a few miles away yet and too quiet for them to begin play, but it wouldn’t be long now. His quick amber eyes instantly picked out the form of his wife and he raced up to her, catapulting himself into the little group with an arm out to scoop Esme into his side. He gave her a dashing smile before turning his attention to the group as a whole.
“Hello everyone…” he trailed off, taking in the expressions on their faces - warning on Esme’s, a sullen look on Rosalie’s. He hadn’t been paying attention to what they had been saying, but he could probably guess what they were talking about. He would give the benefit of the doubt, though, and be patient with Rose. He was sure she would come around eventually, so he cast them a smile, trying to break the tense atmosphere. “We all ready to play ball?”
He shifted so that he was stood behind Esme, his right arm slung around her whilst his other twirled a baseball cap in the air.

Allowing herself to follow Emmett's lead, she let him grasp her and take her away into a sweet and short kiss. Her eyes were still guarded, but a small, playful smirked appeared on her perfect lips. "I don't need your chivalry to strike you out," she murmured while he let go of her and sprinted to first base. Rolling her eyes, though maintaining the grin, Rosalie crossed her arms and stared at the rolling clouds as they neared their position. Emmett was rarely affected by anything serious, and even if he was, it didn't last very long. It generally complemented Rosalie's more severe temperament, though today was not one of those occasions. It was only when Esme spoke that she made a real attempt to relax. Of course she would be ecstatic about Edward finding Bella, but in her 80 years, Rosalie had learned that it was very hard to be upset with her mother. For Esme's sake, she managed to reduce the slight downturn of her lips a little, but she made no promises.
She barely acknowledged Carlisle, giving him only a nod in his direction. To avoid his own pleas as he tried to have her be at least neutral to Bella, as opposed to her varied repertoire of glares, she decided to run off in Emmett's direction. Though she had the utmost respect for him, it irked her that he was so accepting of the human girl in their lives. Another wave of resentment washed over Rosalie as she silently blamed Bella for creating tension between her and her family members.

Edward walked back to the red jeep he had arrived in with a bit of a smile on his face. He had enjoyed meeting Chief Swan as Bella's date tonight. It seemed like a nice human thing to do, and a natural part of relationships. Bella had gotten to meet his family earlier, it seemed right that he meet Charlie now.
Edward walked over to the passenger side door, opening it up for Bella. He didn't do things like that in an attempt to impress her by looking chivalrous, but because in the time when he was born, that was how men acted. There were certain things that stuck with him. The distance between the ground and the jeep was a bit high so he was worried that with her degree of clumsiness, she might very wall stumble and bash her head against the side of the jeep. He put one arm gently around her as he lifted her up, knowing the jeep was obscuring Charlie's view so that he wouldn't see.
Edward then moved around to the driver's side and got in the vehicle. "Don't forget to buckle up"

Esme smiled hugely as Carlisle arrived, pulling her into his side, she wrapped her own arm around his waist and leaned slightly into him. The position was comforting, and though it appeared that leaning into him like that would be like leaning into a statue, it wasn't. It was actually soft and warm to Esme. She sighed a habitual sigh of comfort now that Carlisle was with her.
Esme adjusted as Carlisle did, letting her arm fall from his waist. "I'm ready to make sure you all don't cheat," she told him with a smile. She watched as Rosalie stormed off after Emmett. She could tell Rosalie was going to be difficult with the whole Bella deal, but knew that she would not upset her by being rude to their guest. She sighed again as she looked up at Carlisle.
"So how was work?" she asked, changing the subject. They still had a little while until their entire playing party was here, so they had time to talk. Edward would be here shortly with Bella, and Jasper shouldn't be too long. Then the game could begin.

Bella’s heart was still recovering from introducing Edward to Charlie as her boyfriend. She liked to think that she would have been a lot calmer had she not caught him at one of the rare moments when he was cleaning his firearms. Not that it could hurt Edward, but still… she doubted that her constitution could have taken it if her father had shot her boyfriend on their first meeting. Thus, as she walked with Edward towards the monster jeep, her heart was still beating at a racing pace. The enormous vehicle she seemed expected to traverse didn’t help matters - she doubted she would even make it into the car in one piece, never mind remain stood through an entire baseball game!
“Nice jeep,” she mentioned to him, her tone unsure. She decided that she preferred the Volvo, which required absolutely no agility just to enter it. She looked up at her official boyfriend with a grateful and smitten smile as he opened the passenger door for her. “Thank you…”
She ended in a gasp, not expecting to suddenly be propelled up into the jeep, though it certainly helped. Her surprise made her cheeks flush, and she pointlessly hoped that the colour would fade before Edward got into the car. Of course he was springing lithely into the jeep before she even finished the thought. She looked down at her ‘seat belt’ as an excuse to hide her face, but quickly looked back up to the vampire, her expression a picture of confusion.
“What is this?”
She held three separate parts of the harness in her hands, trying to slot each part into the wrong receiver. Where were they going, what was he planning to do with her that needed this many straps to keep her in?

Carlisle’s amber eyes followed Rosalie’s retreat, noticing the rather stiff nod she had given to his enthusiastic enquiry about Thunderball. He shifted his gaze to encompass his wife, his eyebrows raising a fraction of an inch in question, though he wouldn’t actually voice it. He could imagine what the tension was concerning and he didn’t want to aggravate matters by nagging at his less tolerant daughter. He could see why she was unhappy about Bella’s knowledge of their existence and their true natures, but Carlisle couldn’t see a way it could be avoided. There was no way they would force Edward to choose between Bella and his family, Rosalie would come around eventually, and welcome the human as a Cullen.
His own little smile of contentment spread on his features as he felt his wife’s arm snake around his own waist, though when he looked down at her it was with a mock-hurt look. “You think we would cheat?”
The sigh that Esme breathed was impossible for her husband to ignore, so totally different from the one she let out when he first arrived. He didn’t like to see Esme unhappy. He turned to face her properly and used his free arm to brush a strand of caramel hair behind her ear from before her eye.
“Don’t worry,” he said, quietly, in a voice just for her, but just as she didn’t want to dwell on it, neither did he, so he welcomed her everyday question. “Work was quite enjoyable, actually,” he told her. “Well, except that one of the assistants noticed I hadn’t eaten again,” he paused with an open grimace, such that he could never display in the hospital when he occasionally had to force himself to ear the cartons of pasta to avoid peoples’ attention. “We clearly weren’t busy enough today! How about you - did you have something to work on, or did you spend time with the others?”

Laurent ran swiftly behind the other nomads. He was growing tired of the Olympic Peninsula, but James had wanted to stay for an extended time frame, and Laurent wasn't going to object. He tailed behind Victoria and James as they were faster runners than he was.
Laurent could sense the change in weather, the wind began to blow slightly, and when he looked up, there was a sky of black clouds. Laurent then heard the sound of thunder, it wasn't far from them, which meant a storm...hopefully with the absence of rain. Laurent could tell Victoria wasn't pleased about the storm by the look on her face.
Laurent wondered where James was leading him and Victoria, it would probably be where humans were, though they had just fed. James hadn't really had any fun with his meals yet, and was probably itching for a fresh new game. Laurent sped up a bit and searched around him for some opening in the forest, but all that he could see was a mass of trees and green.

"It's Emmett's " Edward commented as she complimented the jeep. He knew that his brother would be thrilled to hear that she approved, especially knowing she had been in Edward's Volvo first to compare it too and still thought this was nice. Edward much prefered his smaller sportscar, but this was the vehicle that would get them through the rough ride with Bella better. The dirt paths they'd be driving through would have killed the alignment on his car.
Edward gave a smile as he heard her gasp after he lifted her into the car. He looked out of the corner of his as he went around the car, seeing her flush. Such a human thing to do, but Edward was enthralled by it when she did it. Edward had gotten into the drivers side seat when Bella noticed it wasn't an ordinary seatbelt he was asking her to wear.
"Its an offroad harness, you'll need it" He told her, looking at her for a moment, wondering if she'd even know how to secure it. She didn't seem too much like a hiker or camping person who would be experienced with this. "Do you need help?"

Bella bobbed a little, putting the jeep with Emmett in her mind; she could see that, it seemed like a very Emmett-like vehicle. It was certainly big enough for even him! She looked it over from the outside, taking in the enormous headlights and the bar of shining bulbs on its roof. It looked dangerous, but kind of fun.
“Definitely Emmett,” she commented to him, with a grin, and then gestured to the sheer bulk of it. “Not well designed for Bellas though - where’s the Volvo?”
She looked up at him, genuine alarm clear in her wide, brown eyes. What on earth were they doing that needed her to be tied so securely to the seat? It couldn’t be anything that she could hope to be good at, how far away did they play? “I’ll need it?” she asked, incredulously. “I thought we were playing baseball - where do you guys play?”
She looked down once more at the off-road harness, fiddling with it all the more as she discovered that she would need it. The last thing she wanted was to bounce off her seat and heat butt the ceiling, or something equally as ridiculous and embarrassing as that. She grabbed two clips and attempted to jam them together, creating a squeal as the metal groaned into itself. She sighed a little, frustrated that she was so useless. It was a seatbelt, for goodness sake! She inclined her head towards him once more, twisting her lips a little in embarrassment.
“Yeah, it looks that way - I’ve never been in a moon-buggy before,” she paused, looking pensive. “This isn’t ordinary baseball, is it?”

Esme looked up at Carlisle. "I know you cheat," she laughed. The family got way into the game and either team would do whatever they could to win. Esme dreaded how the games would turn if she wasn't around. She already had a difficult enough time keeping them honest when they all knew she was around to keep an eye on things. She was glad she was here now, she wouldn't want Bella to watch them when she wasn't.
"Well I'm glad you had a good day," she told him, "Other than having to eat the food." Esme was glad she never needed to force down the unappealing human food. It wasn't something any of their family wanted to do.
"I worked on another project," she told him. The project she had now, wasn't really much of anything. Just another antique bookcase, she'd worked on several just like it throughout the years. Esme no longer needed to plan these ideas out anymore, she just worked on them.
