The forests that edged the suburbs and small towns south of Seattle where mostly quiet. The thick growth didn’t slow down James and his coven as they bounded at full speed. Every once in a while his senses would encounter the repulsive lifeforce of nearby game. The insignificant creatures were the lesser temptation by far, though it did bring about the familiar burning in his throat. The idea was ludicrous and James instantly rejected it as it occurred to him. He glanced sideways when Laurent asked him where they were headed. He considered for a fraction of a moment before he answered, “No where specifically, yet. Let’s just keep to the coast for now.”
He pondered the possibilities of what they might find there. He was slightly inclined to find Victoria a small city to find a nightclub again. He had pretended to miss the pout of her smooth lips when Laurent’s arrival prompted their departure. But he would give the hunt to her; he knew she wanted it.
They had traveled less than 30 miles out of the city when James caught the unmistakable scent of the human condition. It was strong, concentrated. It was a group of them. In the same thought he detected several other scents. Fire, gasoline, firewood, human food, sweat, cotton, leather, polyester, vinyl, remnants of pot smoke, cigarettes, rum, cheap vodka and an assortment of other materials that all pointed out to the same thing. Campers. James stopped dead in his tracks and listened.
“… they were the darkest creatures that lived in this very forest. They had no shape, or size. They just were. It enabled them to wrap themselves around trees as moss or hide under the barely-green leaves of a sapling… spying on their prey…”
The young man telling the story, whose heart was beating steadily, had embedded his words with slow, deliberate enunciation. It produced exactly what he had aimed for, the increased heart rates of at least 3 of the other 7 campers that were huddled around the fire. James’s hand impulsively squeezed Victoria’s had slightly as the sides of his mouth turned up slowly in amusement. He didn’t need to speak, she would know what he was thinking because it would occur to her as well. Laurent would know his companions well enough to know it at well, though not acknowledge it with as much enthusiasm.

Victoria followed James without question, knowing he always lead them somewhere worthy of going. The thick undergrowth in the forest they were traveling through would severely inhibit any regular human being unless they hiked on a worn path, but the three vampires ran as if it were an open field. The green bush around them seemed to almost cower out of their way, as if it felt the inhuman, evil quality about the Nomads. Victoria couldn't help but let out a small laugh at that thought - even the plants were smarter than the foolish humans.
The game nearby barely tempted her, as she found it repulsive, but nevertheless it caused her body to react. It wasn't long into their trip that the intense smell of blood rushed her senses, causing the burning ache in her throat to intensify tenfold. This was different from the average deer. This was human. Several humans in close quarters. James stopped dead then in front of her, and she copied his actions naturally, so in synch with his movements she didn't show any signs of surprise.
More smells filled her nostrils then, and she recognized it as a campsite. She could hear the crackling of the fire and someone talking about ghost stories with intent to scare his friends. It worked. Victoria could hear the quickened heartbeats and it did nothing to help supress her urge, her mind only vividly visualizing what a grisly site this could become. The boy was literally committing suicide-by-vampire.
James squeezed her hand then, and she knew he was thinking the same thing. Considering the circumstances, it could become quite interesting. Her wicked smirk matched his, and an excited glint reached her eyes. Different plans went through her mind, playing out different scenarios to see which one caught her interest. There were so many options in such a remote location. She wondered then if Laurent would want to join in.
"My oh my, look what we have found. This even makes up for skipping that nightclub in Seattle," she said, using their joined hands to pull James towards her and close the small distance between them. She tilted her head up just slightly and pressed a rather chaste kiss on his lips, pulling back only slightly afterwards. "Mmmm... What do you think?" She asked, still debating about how to go about satisfying both their lust for excitement and desire for blood.

Laurent could smell the thickness from rain as he ran through the green forest. He nodded at James' answer and continued his journey with the other nomads. Laurent wasn't sure where they may be heading, but he was sure of one thing...before they reached their destination James would have a little fun with any humans in their path.
Of course as Laurent thought of this, James and Victoria stopped mid-run. Laurent raised and eyebrow and was about to ask why, when he smelled the wonderful scent of humans, a lot of them, more than five at least.
It wasn't hard to see the enthusiasm in the other nomads. James was grinning at his lover, and she was practically bouncing on her feet in a cat-like movement. Laurent frowned but didn't object to whatever they had in plan. It would take longer than to just attack and feed, but they did smell appetizing and Laurent wasn't one to say no to an all you can eat buffet placed in front of him.
Laurent waited for James to decide what to do; Laurent may act the leader, but James was stronger, and a better hunter than Laurent and he was the one to make decisions for the other nomads. Laurent stared at James, gave him a somewhat excited grin, and said, "Ready when you and Victoria are."

Once it was decided that their migration was temporarily sidetracked by the delicious-smelling humans, James felt the familar sensation he'd been accustomed to since his rebirth wash over his sense. It was something he had not fully understood until he was about a decade old and had begun to understand the nuances of his thirst and the hunt. By now, he had perfected his use of slight intuition he was given every time he chose a target. Sometimes the key was in their appearance, sometimes he was given a glimpse of their personality. At times he just felt a pull towards a particular direction (though not necessary straight to the prey itself. It was always the smallest bit of information that at first frustrated him due to being seemingly mundane. But after many years of investigation of these tidbits, he discovered how to use them to unfold his targets' weakness, which would lead them to fall prey.
Once the targets had been identified, he felt the subtle inclination to listen closely to their story, as if it were key to the hunt. The story would inspire their death. He returned Victoria's kiss, grinning at her enthusiasm. He nodded at Laurent, pleased that he had decided to play along. How could he resist? When 8 intoxicated, defenseless humans were right there for the plucking? Following the slight instinct, he gave simple instructions to his coven. "Just surround them for now," he told them with a smirk, "let's hear some of their little tale."
He left Victoria, going around the campsite to its southernmost end to climb a tall oak that stood about 300 yards away from their clearing, among the dense forest. Though the woods separated them, James could still clearly see the scene the young humans had walked themselves into. At the western side of their campsite were two sturdy SUVs where they had brought all their gear and accessories, no doubt. They were the backdrop for two propped tents that were just large enough to hold the eight campers, shuddering slightly under the cold air. The eastern side of the clearing was where the fire was rumbling slightly. James had the feeling that its size was intentional; big enough to provide warmth but small enough for the males to chivalrously offer their arms to supplement heat.
The group was divided evenly, four males and four females. Two sets were obviously couples, snuggled close together as they heard the brawny, blonde human's story. The brawny one himself wasn't huddled close to the girl to his left, but she was shamelessly staring at him while he gave her an occasional glance as he dove into his tale. The last pair seemed comfortable with each other, but not in the same way the others did. James scrutinized them in a matter of seconds and realized that they were related; siblings most likely. He chuckled softly as the brawny blonde continued.
"Of course the story has been made less credible with time as people exaggerate the facts. The story says that a girl was chased and killed in these woods... and that she still haunts it, seeking revenge. But locals say it's just a man that lives in an isolated cabin to the north who's very territorial and slightly insane."
James glanced over to the coven member that was closest to the north side, offering an amused grin. He listened intently as the girl watching the storyteller skipped a heartbeat. She had a foolish admiration for the brawny blonde boy, but James could tell he would run (or attempt to) when he and his coven descended to feast upon them. His handsome smile and athletic physique were just a front to his selfishness and pride; he would betray the girl in an instant. The two couples would hold onto themselves, maybe run and stumble on each other, but the siblings had an interesting light of intuition in their eyes. James pondered this last tidbit as the story continued.
"For years, reports of terrible murders were brought back from various parts of of the woods, always by one or two survivors. Never more. It was always different. Sometimes it was a savage bloodbath. Sometimes it was a string of hangings in the trees. Or a drowning with no water nearby. But it was always random and disconnected."
James appreciated the boy's delivery. And it seemed the setting was giving him a lending hand. The air rustled the exact amount of shrubbery to produce a faint rushing in the background, the crackling of the fire was low and fighting against the cold air with much resistance. The chill in the northwest air supplemented the chills they were already shaking with due to the ghastly tale. All the girls, save the intuitive female sibling, were fighting an increasing heartrate, and even the two males huddled next to their girlfriends were fidgeting a bit. He scanned the landscape once more, trying to decide which was the best way to start. He wouldn't plan too far ahead; it was always fun to run off the script. When you lived forever, spontaneity was essential. Human reactions would never change. Scream. Run. Flail. Squirm. What was important was how you made them squeal. How long it took for them to beg for death after they realized they could not run from it. He decided to give the humans another few moments of deluded peace as he watched them smugly.

Victoria could hardly contain her excitement. It was times like these when she felt like a newborn again, almost unable to control herself. The sound of blood pumping through the humans veins nearly sent her over the edge and she had to grab onto a tree branch to force herself not to act prematurely. Most unfortunate for the tree, its thick limb snapped under the pressure from her hand and she tossed it aside in aggravation. The burning in her throat was intense, almost unbearable, but she knew James and Laurent would be feeling the same. That thought was the only thing keeping her from unleashing the monster within before any fun could be had.
James had told them to surround the campsite and then headed off to the southern edge, perching in a tree a couple hundred yards away from where the humans sat completely oblivious. With her sharp eyes Victoria could see him from where she stood and could tell he was just as excited as her. Kills like these always got the venom flowing in ridiculous amounts, but she had to keep her mind off that fact before it became her undoing. She always struggled with their games, finding it incredibly hard to resist attacking immediately, but knowing how much fun there could be had was what kept her fighting that internal battle.
Victoria headed off in the opposite direction that James went, to the most northern edge of the campsite. She found a decent spot nearly a hundred yards into the woods, wanting to stay out of the light created by the fire but still be close enough to take everything in. She was more reckless this way than James was. He tended to play it a little safe, make sure he wasn't given away before he had his fun. Victoria, on the other hand, wasn't as organized as him and therefore ended up in a feeding frenzy before she could think twice. She had a perfect example of such a situation back in Seattle, laying on the street in a pool of blood somewhere in a dark alley. Her blood still covered Victoria's clothes.
She caught James' grin through the trees and couldn't help but smirk in response, a plan beginning to form in her head. Nothing scared the little insignificant beings more than hearing something they couldn't see. Taunt them enough, and they'll flee. But it would certainly be harder to flee when their vehicles were incapable of moving.
Victoria moved silently through the trees, always staying out of the firelight. She headed around towards the two SUVs, always keeping an eye on the campers to make sure they were still oblivious. She crouched by the vehicles, using them to keep out of sight. The large tires that aided the trucks in manouvering through the thick forest were nothing for her inhuman strength. She laid one hand on the edge of it and grasped it tightly, feeling the tough material give beneath her fingers. Her hand came back with a fistful of shredded rubber and soon the tire was completely flat. She did it to the front as well, and then moved on to the next truck to copy what she had done to the other. Vehicles only came with one spare tire, so even if they tried to replace it, it would be impossible. If they decided to flee, it would be on foot.
Before Victoria moved back to her spot, she couldn't help but get the ball rolling. The large blonde boy was still rattling on about the local ghost stories, trying to scare his fellow campers. She was going to show him how to really get the blood flowing. Reaching in through a half-opened window, she turned the key backwards for the battery to kick in and spun the volume dial up as far as it would go. She then pressed the power button, a wicked laugh escaping her lips. Heavy metal music blasted out the speakers and with her superhuman speed Victoria ran back to her original spot to observe.
All of the girls screamed and even some of the boys, including the storyteller. They sat there, frozen to their seats as they stared at the SUV that was now filling the forest with ACDC's Highway to Hell.
How appropriate.

This was going to be interesting... Laurent mused as he watched the eight, clueless humans telling their stupid tale of ghosts in the forest. Laurent wasn't one for games, but that didn't mean he wasn't intrigued by James and Victoria's. The real thing that fascinated Laurent was, no matter how many times the nomads would mess with their meals, they always came up with new ways to frighten the humans.
Laurent crouched as James nodded to him, Laurent would be going toward the middle of the humans, right above their tiny unknowing heads. The nomads would surround their prey in a sort of triangular formation, one that made it physically impossible for any of the casualties to escape.
Laurent hopped onto the tree nearest him, and continued to bounce from one tree to another until he was right above the fire pit. He searched the forest until he spotted the other nomads. James and Victoria were smirking at one another, highly amused about what was going to happen. Laurent couldn't help but grin a bit too, not because he was excited about one of James' foolish games, but because he could smell the humans...their fear, and warmth...and it drove him into lust for their blood.
Laurent watched as Victoria left her hiding spot to go down toward the humans' vehicles. he then heard the soft whoosh of a tire being deflated. Of course, the humans would be oblivious to the noise. Victoria then silently opened the car door and began to play the stereo at full volume. Highway to Hell turned on, Laurent wasn't one for ACDC, but it did seem to fit the situation rather well...how ironic.
Laurent watched as the humans panicked. They would probably think it was "ghosts" or something naive like that. Well...I guess the idea of ghosts wasn't too naive, at least it was something like vampires that was mythical, or so the humans suspect is mythical. The women around the fire shook, some dug their face into the men, while one girl searched around the campsite for the perpitratior...she seemed wise enough to rule out ghosts.
A man went to turn off the stereo; Laurent wondered how he would explain it turning on...probably something completely impossible like, "I must of left the keys in the ignition" or "It must of been the wind. Humans would blame anything before believing anything out there could harm them...they were way off.

Following Victoria’s every move, he smirked when he heard the fait sound of the air wheezing out of the tires. He looked at each of the face around the fire; they were completely unaware. Their faces were completely transformed, however, when the music blasted from the car stereo. Fear, panic, and confusion were suddenly evident on their expression. And... suspicion? Again, the sibling pair stood out from the rest and did not voice any mundane conclusions as to how the music had turned on. It was then that James decided that they would be last; he would reward their intelligence over the simpletons they had as company. "The dark haired ones facing east are mine," he mumbled, knowing that only his companions would hear them. But he made no move to claim them, they would watch just a little bit longer.
Taking inventory once more, James smiled openly at the heightened condition of their prey. Aside from the horror story, the alcohol and drugs they had partaken in, they had a healthy dose of adrenaline running through their veins, pumped steadily by 8 frantic hearts. James looked on, deciding which little step he should take. He wanted the blood in their veins so hard that they felt the throb in their heads. Looking at Laurent, he beckoned him to join him on the south side, leaving Victoria in her position.
After recovering from their mishap, the campers had gathered around and the brawny blonde went back into the story, taking advantage of the random event that had set their hearts racing. He offered recounts of the past murders of their fabled perpetrator. Offering gruesome details and bizarre settings, it worked well enough to keep the most of them intent. James thought the stories sounded familiar, but it would sound to anyone who has lived for a hundred years. Stories are repeated, embellished and passed on. But the brawny blonde made it a point to always indicate the approximate location it had occurred in relation to their campsite.
He felt that they had heard enough, but they were to proceed without haste. He was still intent on the sibling pair, wondering what their reaction would be upon encountering them. Never taking his eyes off of them as they regained the bored looking expression as a response to the tall tales, gazing into the fire, he smirked lightly. "Victoria, I think our new friends would be most concerned about the mess you made of your shirt," he said, amused. "Perhaps you should politely ask for help." He would not tell her what exactly to do, other than to let herself be seen. He knew she would enjoy making her part up as they went along.
He could already see it, the look in their eyes as a red-headed goddess appeared pale while in the moonlight with blood red stains on her shirt. It would be the gem in the collection of these tales.

Victoria watched with eagerness as the affects of the blasting radio played out just as she had hoped. Each and every one of the campers had a terrified look on their face except for two, who were sitting beside each other on a log by the fire. They kept silent, not providing their own imput as to why the radio turned on so suddenly. She tilted her head slightly at them, fascinated at how calm they were. Their heartbeats remained close to normal for the most part, while everyone elses beat like a rhythm of a fast-paced drum. She could hear the blood flowing in their bodies, see the jugular vein in their necks pulse beneath the creamy skin. The sensation was overwhelming.
James' voice knocked her out of her trance, and she smirked, nodding in reply. So he wanted the two calm ones, the two that seemed least affected by the ghost stories that were still spewing from the blonde boy's mouth. Hmm... she felt like taking him first, silencing him once and for all and proving his pathetic tales true. She heard James give her permission to pursue whatever course she decided, and already a plan was forming in her head. It was going to play out beautifully, and Victoria only regretted the fact that they hadn't brought a video camera to tape it.
Everything seemed to work out perfectly, like it was all meant to be. The burly blonde boy, who had so far been telling the stories, excused himself and walked several feet into the bush on her right, relieving himself on a poor, helpless tree. How disgusting. Victoria seized the opportunity and crept over, standing tall and proud behind him despite being several inches shorter. The boy was oblivious, and she could hardly contain her excitement as she waited for him to finish. She was positively shaking. Finally he turned and she let out a low, seductive "Hello" before lunging at his neck and digging her teeth into his skin. She silenced his screams with a pale hand over his flushed face, and her black eyes rolled back in her head as she finally feasted.
Soon the boy was limp, cold and pale in her arms. His crimson blood was smeared over her lips and chin, as well as on the front of her clothes where it mingled with the dried blood from Seattle. Victoria felt a wonderful sensation of satisfaction course through her and she figured it was about time to stop torturing James and Laurent and get on with it. Grabbing the boy by his tousel of blonde curls, she began a carefree whistle and dragged his body out into the campsite with her.
If Victoria had had a camera, this would have been a Kodak moment. Everyone turned to look at her, then at the boy. Shock, disbelief, and horror crossed their faces all at once. They all looked absolutely mortified. She let an arrogant and slightly confused expression cross her face and abruptly ended her whistling.
"Umm... my dinner seems to have.... died on me. You guys wouldn't, perhaps, have any to spare...?"

Laurent took in his surroundings; James and Victoria would soon grow tired of just watching their prey...Well Victoria would, James had always been extremely interested in learning about his prey. He enjoyed the games more when he made them a bit more personal.
James had picked the ones who seemed far more intelligent than their companions. James would always target his prey among the crowd, he picked the ones that seemed more interesting; and these humans did not disappoint, they sat still and quiet as their company's hearts pounded, and shook where they sat.
Laurent nodded as James gestured for him to proceed closer. He crept above the human's heads until he was hanging onto a tree, about fifteen feet from James. Laurent watched the people surrounding the campfire and as he was about to ask if they should advance, Victoria made her way down toward them.
The broad, blond-haired boy had gone to relieve himself behind a nearby tree, that was where Victoria followed. She grinned gleefully next to the man; and Laurent watched as the man stared in shock at Victoria's appearance, and she was granted her meal. Laurent could see the absolute happiness in Victoria's crimson eyes as she drained the body of the camper, nothing made a vampire happier than a fresh meal.
Laurent would let James and Victoria have their picks before he would choose. Any human was fine with him, he could care less about their personality, as long as they had blood, Laurent was satisfied. Laurent would wait for James to advance to the campsite before he made his journey down.
The humans were horror-struck as Victoria appeared carrying their precious story-teller. His body limp, cold, and lifeless. Even the two siblings seemed mortified by this. Death was always something huge for humans, none of them took it lightly.
The one girl who had been admiring the man that now was dead in Victoria's hand screamed. She would most likely be next...or maybe James and Victoria would save her for the end, she seemed to be the one most scared of death...watching her friends die would be something to traumatize the girl, and amuse James and Victoria.

Strange creatures, humans were. They were variant within themselves, though still quite predictable. The girl that had admired the brawny storyteller was the first to vocalize the fear that was slowly overwhelming them as they saw their campmate being dragged across the forest floor by Victoria; bloody and lifeless. He knew that they had never seen anything like it before. The shock alone was what kept them rooted to their seats, though James could swear he could see the panic rise in them, their hearts kick starting with a fresh dose of adrenaline. The two girls sitting with their boyfriends soon found their own voices and started screaming their 'Oh my Gods" and "Please don'ts" as they stumbled with their companions to get up and away, tripping over themselves.
The sibling pair, as he had predicted, acted differently again. Though they would not be immune to the pure terror of their friend's blood on Victoria's face and shirt, they still were thinking more than the others. The brother muffled his sister's own scream and helped her get up in an attempt to get away in silence. James smiled knowingly. They thought it was only Victoria against the seven remaining campers. If she was distracted by the screamers, perhaps they would be able to get away. The sister, seized by raw terror, had bitten her brother's hand, piercing the skin and drawing blood. James inhaled the succulent aroma as the northwestern breeze brought it straight to him. "The others are yours to divide," he said, barely able to contain the savage edge from his voice. He crouched only slightly and cross the entirely clearing undetected in one leap to watch the sibling pair try to make their escape North.

Victoria lightly skipped towards the girl who earlier had been oogling the blonde boy, the very same boy that now laid dead five feet away. She had bled him dry, and now he was just as pale as his killer was. The girl screamed, tripping and stumbling as she tried to run away and save her life, all the while not knowing how utterly foolish the attempt was. Victoria was going to have fun with this one, let the experience last and have her witness everyone else's deaths before taking hers. It was the most cruel thing she could think of doing, but the insignificant human deserved it. It wasn't her fault that she was such delicious prey.
Catching up with her, she reached down as the girl continued to run and grabbed her around the ankle, holding it strongly in place so that her momentum worked against her. It worked out as planned, and the girl was jolted from the sudden stop of movement and fell flat on her face, hitting the ground hard. She started to scream frantically, clawing at the moss and dirt in front of her in an attempt to pull away. Laughing in amusement and grasping tighter, Victoria began to drag her back to the campsite where James and Laurent were off having their own fun, not caring how many stumps she ran in to or how many rocks hit her head. It all added to the glorious pain that she was going to experience.
Victoria abruptly dropped her leg and the girl scrambled to her knees, trying to get up and run away. A swift kick to the face threw her back down to the ground where she cowered and whimpered pathetically, looking up into the red eyes that stared back hungrily. She had seen James go after his prey with her sharp eyes, and Laurent was doing the same. If both men took two for themselves, then there would still be two left alive. Eight humans were too much for just the three of them to thirst on, but none could leave while their hearts still beated. Grabbing the girl's ankle, she twisted her leg sharply until her toes were pointed towards the ground, and abandoned her for the moment. Her screams echoed through the trees and Victoria knew she wanted to save her for last.
She ran after one of the other boys that had run into the forest, ignoring the other stray girl as she knew Laurent or James would take care of her. It didn't take long for her to catch up and she sprung on his back, jabbing her heel into his spine and grinning wide when she heard the deafening crack. His body dropped immediately, losing complete control of his legs and he crashed into the ground. Victoria decided to drag him back to the campsite, dropping him in front of the girl that she had left there a moment ago in complete agony from her deformed leg. At first she thought he was dead, but a pained groan emmitted from his chest and she actually breathed a small sigh of relief. Stepping down hard on his neck, Victoria quickly ended that.
The girl screamed again, and Victoria was surprised at how much determination she had in her. You'd think they would just give up once they realised it was pointless, but she insisted on gracing them all with her voice as if someone would come and rescue her. The red headed vampire that stood before her shook her head in slight disgust, bending down to the girl's level and leaning in close, breathing in her scent and the smell of her blood. It was too good to resist any longer, and Victoria leaned in and pressed her teeth to the girl's neck.

Laurent crouched and then quickly pounced toward the campsite. He had learned this movement by observing Victoria, who seemed to be having fun with a girl screaming at the top of her lungs.
Laurent sighed and crept toward the other girl, her boyfriend had left her behind in his attempt to escape and she was paralyzed by fear. Laurent was not too harsh...well if you excluded the whole 'murder' thing, so once he reached the girl he grabbed her neck softly, and cracked it so she would not feel pain as he drank from her. The venom would be excruciating, and Laurent always lost his appetite when his meals were screaming.
Her body lay still and he dug his teeth into her neck; watching the other nomads frolic around the campsite as he drank. He heard several other cracks come from multiple places, and concluded that it could only mean Victoria or James are having a splendid hunt.
He finished the blood from the girl, and pushed her body into the fire that was still crackling slowly. Ashes flew everywhere as she hit the logs, and Laurent moved on to his next prey.
The boyfriend who had tried to escape was claimed by Victoria, and the one that was left for Laurent had run to the car. Did he think he could drive away? He was a foolish human, any vampire could run at the speed of a car. He won't be able to start the ignition in time anyway... Laurent thought and moved swiftly toward the man, killing him and then draining his body.
Laurent was fine with the two humans as his meal, and would let the others take on the rest of the humans. He climbed on a nearby tree and waited for the others to finish their hunting. Victoria was feasting upon the once screaming girl, and would move on to someone else sooner or later. James, on the other hand, was watching two humans futile attempt to escape with an expression on amusement and affection for their wit etched on his face.

James had only reached a minimal action of his maximum speed as he kept up with the the siblings, watching them navigate the forest. He was impressed the route they had taken. Through the panic they had remembered that the road they had used to get there in the cars was due north of their campsite. They kept mostly to the path, but tried to find cover wherever they could see in the dim moonlight. He wondered what they were thinking, past the alcohol the girl had consumed and the drugs the boy had partaken in. Were they wondering about the friends they had so hastily abandoned to save themselves? What did they suspect of Victoria? His thoughts were answered as the girl tried to talk through her heaving breathing. "Erik..." she mumbled, "Erik, she..."
"I know," said the boy, though he sounded as if it were the only thing he knew. He stumbled over a protruding tree root, but managed to keep upright and keep his hand connected to his sister. "She had blood," she said between gulping breaths, "all over."
"I know," he repeated, "But what..." He also could not articulate himself past the exertion it took to run away, but James smirked as if he heard the wheels of his little human mind trying to make sense of what they had seen.
James was only slightly distracted by the far, but clear, sounds of Victoria and Laurent finishing their attack and feast. They would not have to feed for some time, perhaps they would arrive south sooner if they didn't have to stop. His full attention on the pair again, he could sense an opening in the trees again. The road was near. Suddenly inspired, he let them continue and he broke west instead. They were close to the coast and the oceanside cities were quite populated. No doubt they would try to look for help in that direction. He ran for less than a mile before heading north again to meet the road. Stepping onto the pavement, he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. His blood, east as he had predicted. He turned towards them and walked slowly. When they met on the side of the road, he would appear to be a hitchhiker on a lonely road.

Victoria bled the girl dry, tossing her limp body to the side when she was finished with her. Her intense craving was satisfied, at least for the moment, but there was still one more human to take care of. She saw Laurent move back to the treetops when he had finished thirsting, a look of disgust and annoyance crossing her face. He couldn't even bring himself to end a human's life without drinking their blood as well. Did he not realize that this one individual would go and tell the rest of the population what had happened? It was all for the best interests of their discreet existence that they all die.
Hastily wiping the blood from her pale chin, she set off and followed the scent of the last remaining girl alive. Her trail was everywhere, her disoriented mind not knowing which direction to run. Victoria could hear her heavy breathing and knew she wasn't far off, her human legs barely carrying her fast enough to outrun a mouse. The terrain was rough and her feet managed to find every stump and root there was and tripped constantly, causing a wicked laugh to escape past Victoria's lips.
She caught up to her fairly swiftly, grabbing a fistful of brunette hair and yanking back hard so that she fell to the ground backwards. The girl's head cracked on a rock when she hit the forest floor, and Victoria was immediately and incredibly disappointed. What were the chances of that happening? She listened carefully anyway, letting out a frustrated sigh when no heartbeat was heard. For good measure, she bent down anyway and twisted the girl's neck so that it faced the opposite direction, not wanting to take any chances and having a little fun at the same time.
Victoria wandered back to the campsite, quickly looking over the carnage that they had created. It was satisfying to see and always provided a boost of confidence, not that she needed it. She looked around, not seeing James anywhere and assumed he was still on his hunt, obviously having too much fun. Glancing up, she saw Laurent still perched in the same tree and shook her head at the sight.
"Why can't you have a little fun? They're going to die anyway, might as well make it worthwhile."

Laurent had finished his meal, and so all that was left to do was to watch for the other nomads. He watched as Victoria finished the girl; she had looked up toward Laurent with a disgusted look. Probably for Laurent not finishing the girl himself. Laurent didn't really mind though, this was how James and Victoria always acted with him during their hunts.
Laurent watched as Victoria ran swiftly into the woods. She was after the last human, and would probably not bother to drink her blood...she would just kill the poor girl.
Laurent looked down at the scene below him. Any human would find this horrific, but Laurent saw it as just another feast for the nomads. They would have to do something with the bodies though. If the humans were to see the bite marks; well, they might get suspicious.
Laurent heard a crack in the distance, which could only mean the girl was finished. As he sat there he noticed a wave of red hair move toward him.
Victoria looked up and frowned, she then said, "Why can't you have a little fun? They're going to die anyway, might as well make it worthwhile." Laurent sighed.
"I'm not in it for the fun Victoria, it's only a matter of survival." Which was true for the most part. Laurent hated games, and did not kill humans for entertainment, but he could live without the human blood.
Some vampires, a very small amount, lived off the blood of humans. That wasn't what Laurent truly wanted, so he stuck with the normal diet.
