{Early New Moon}
The day so far had been a bit of trying for Bella, having begun with the frightening dream of her looking like a granny and that image of her perfect ever-young boyfriend. It still haunted her, the quantifiable year of aging that she had over Edward, a process that would never stop until she could persuade him to make her like the Cullens, or until she died. She shuddered a little in the passenger seat of her own truck as she waited for Edward to climb into the driver’s seat – she didn’t mind for once, she still had trouble finding the obscure turning to the Cullens’ place in the dark.
She played with the camera in her lap, a present from Renée that Edward had just saved from certain technocide, wondering what kind of pictures she would be able to take of her birthday to keep her mother happy. She was still curious about what the picture of Edward she snapped would come out like. She knew, by now, that he had a reflection, but there was so much she didn’t know about them, as had been so startlingly highlighted earlier that day. The whole Volturi thing, the suicide thing… everything about that conversation had shocked and almost scared her – the thought that Edward wouldn’t exist, wouldn’t want to exist, if – when – she died frightened her. She couldn’t bear the thought of the world existing without him, even if she wasn’t there anymore.
That had been when they were watching Romeo and Juliet, her utterly failed plan to get through the day with absolutely no special attention paid to it. She should have known that since befriending Alice that a party could never be fully avoided. Still, with Emmett and Rosalie in Africa – not at Dartmouth as the rest of Forks High thought – the fuss couldn’t be too much and she had been impressing upon Edward how she absolutely did not want her birthday to be acknowledged so much that she was sure that he must have been able to rein his pixie-like sister in somewhat.
It would be a nice night with Edward, just like normal, maybe Alice and Jasper would be around for a little while and Carlisle and Esme would probably want to wish her a happy birthday; that would be fine so long as no money was spent on her. She knew the Cullens were rich beyond measure after their long capital-earning lives, but she would always feel bad accepting expensive presents.

Everything was in order and from her vision it would go smoother, though the look of dread on Bella's face would be priceless. Alice was a force to be reckoned with. Regardless if Bella wanted a party or not it was out of the question and as soon as she'd found out the human girl's birthday it was on. Edward would be going out and fetching his human girlfriend and would be bringing her home soon were their family would be waiting on them. A smile graced her features as she walked around inspecting everything.
"I hope she likes the cake-" It had been ordered online from a bakery in Seattle named Morfey's which had some rave reviews. The family hadn't been able to really tell if it was good but it looked pretty and that was all that mattered to her. Of course it did worry her that Bella might not like the flavor she'd chosen but it was popular so hopefully the rave review would pass onto her human friend. The room was decorated with pinks, white, and reds. Everything seemed perfect that Alice knew that things would go well and the family would feel complete with the addition of Bella.
"I can't wait!" Emmett, Rosalie and Jasper had gone out and purchased a gift together. Alice on the other hand had gone with her brother and bought what she considered a more meaningful gift. Cars were nice to look at and drive but the gift they had gotten her would probably mean more. Luckily for her Edward wasn't around to listen to her thoughts. It was a boastful take but Alice felt confident in the gift. If anyone were to look at her they would see that she was practically jumping for joy. Alice felt like a little child who couldn't wait to open their gifts but she would wait. Jasper would probably be amused while Rosalie would either be disgusted or ignore her younger sister. Even if they saw eye to eye most of the time; Bella was a touchy subject.
"They'll be here soon everyone!" Alice called out to the rest of the family. Bella would be surpise to see Emmett and Rosalie since they were suppose to be on vacation in Africa. Emmett shared the same ethusisam for the human girl as Alice and it was a comfort that she wasn't alone. Jasper was still having trouble and would keep his distances but this was a special event for them all.

Jasper loved watching days like this. Alice in her element. Jasper had to believe that if Alice was a human today she would have been a party planner. A wedding planner. Something like that. Making arranagements, creating a beautiful atmosphere, just the right food (if humans were involved), just the right music. She was perfect. All of the parties were magical, he only wished that they weren't so few. Emmett and Rosalie's latest wedding being her only outlet for many years, Bella was quite the novelty. And it helped that Alice knew she would be close to Bella one day. Closer anyway. So as his little pixie of a wife made herself busy, Jasper could only watch her with a slightly amused look on her face. That was his girl.
It also helped him avoid thinking about the party. He was glad for Ed. How couldn't he be? All of these years feeling Edward's loneliness and being unable to help him, his love for Bella so strong...he had to be glad for him. But it didn't change who she was. A human. Jasper had made sure to go hunting the day before, preparing himself despite Alice's insistance everything would be perfect. Alice knew, but he wanted to be careful. While her scent didn't drive him wild as it had Edward, she was just like any other human. Tempting. And having her so close didn't help matters. He was nervous.
The fact that Bella probably was terrified of him didn't help. He heard what people said about him at school. Jasper was the weird one. A scary weird unlike the oddly charming weird that his wife had. And his restraint around her surely wasn't the way to become quick friends. Nor was his insistance to kill her when she first appeared in their lives...though hopefully Ed had never mentioned that to her. But Jasper didn't want her dead. Far from. She made Edward happy, and she was soon to be best friends with his wife...she had to be around. Jasper even went in with Rosalie and Emmett on the sound system. He wanted to buy her a present of his own, but he wasn't quite sure what to get her. Hopefully the gesture would be enough for Bella to trust him slightly. He didn't want to be the weird brother forever. Especially if Bella got her way and became one of them.
Jasper watched Alice call order to the party. He made his way to her side naturally, and muttered, "You've outdone yourself again." His golden eyes scanned the room carefully, appreciating all of her hard work. But his face fell slightly as he added, "You...you sure that everything will be all right tonight?"

Africa had been fun, something Emmett had enjoyed. The change of scenery and the ability to be away from civilization and been himself for a while had been relaxing. Of course the perk of been alone with Rosalie was something else that had made the whole worth while, their family were lovely, but sometimes it was nice to be alone. Returning early hadn’t been a problem for Emmett, though he knew Rosalie saw it as an interruption and saw anything to do with Bella as an inconvenience.
The house was decorated like a beacon light on a landing strip, Alice had really done an ’Alice’ on the house covering it with ever imaginable decoration for their visitors birthday. He, Rosalie and Jasper had teamed up and bought a radio for Bella’s ancient truck, something Emmett would be installing as soon as the monstrosity arrived.
It was easy to hear the cheer in Alice’s voice as she announced their guest would be arriving soon. Descending the stairs into the main room he took in the room at its full, maybe over done, grandeur. “Out done or over done, I guess its up to the person. Damn Alice that cake is huge.” He said interrupting his brother and sister’s conversation as he came down the stairs. He saw Jasper’s face as he asked about the coming evening, Emmett understood their newest vegetarians worries, but he also knew he was trying as hard as he could. “Jaz relax, if worst comes to it you can always eat some cake.” He joked trying to lighten the mood.

Jasper expressed his concern over the birthday festivities at hand but Alice had seen what would happen. It was why she'd gone all out and decorated the house in all shades of pinks, mainly softly, and whites. It brought about a nice tone to the white sterile appearance of their home. Bella was their breath of fresh air that their withered lungs had breath in decades. "Everything will be fine Jazz," She put her hands on his chest, straighten his jacket, smoothing out his shoulders, "You'll do fine and we're all here if something happens." Alice offered him a bright smile to help relieve his mild anxiety, "Nothing is going to happen," she caressed the left side of his face with her hand, the tiny bumps smooth under her fingers.
"Out done myself," Alice responded to Emmett, "She'll love it even if she hates it at first. Bella won't win against me." She smiled at the thought of her newest "sister" possible disgust but she wouldn't take offense to it. "I have to admit that I went a little crazy on the cake-its pretty though!" It was exciting having to throw a birthday party really and Alice really wished that they would be able to do it more often now that they had Bella. Really they could have thrown their own birthday parties but no one wanted to be reminded of the day they turned. Alice couldn't even remember her own.

As they headed back to the Cullen's home for the birthday party that Alice had planned for Bella, Edward drove Bella's truck. Usually he would have picked her up in his silver volvo but he had been sent with orders from his brother to bring the truck so that Bella's birthday present could be installed. Bella wasn't even expecting Emmett or Rosalie to be there tonight, thinking they were still in Africa, but Emmett wouldn't miss out on Alice throwing Bella a birthday party and Rosalie...well she had at least promised to try to be nice tonight.
Edward knew how excited Alice was to throw this party, and knew that most of his family was also pleased to celebrate the event. He knew it was a date worth celebrating and wanted to give her the best, he only hoped she wouldnt be too miserable, knowing just how much she had avoiding making a big deal about her birthday today, or even acknowledging it to anyone who didnt know already.
As they neared the house, Edward turned to Bella. "Try not to be too hard on them. It's been a long time since any of us have celebrated a birthday. The last real birthday any of us had was Emmett in 1935. This is all very exciting for them" He then gave a small grin, knowing he was looking forward to celebrating her birthday as well, thinking it was a wonderful human milestone. "Maybe you'll even enjoy it yourself"

Although work at the hospital often took Carlisle away from any of the few social engagements that the Cullens engaged themselves in, he had managed to work his shifts so that he could be around for the birthday party that Alice had put together for Bella. He was happy to go along with the plans that were taking part in their house, though he wasn’t entirely sure how much this was for the benefit of the host (his ‘youngest’ daughter) and how much for the birthday girl. Edward had told them all countless times that Bella didn’t want a big fuss, though he probably knew that it would be unavoidable given Alice’s nature. Still, whatever Alice came up with, it would be of the top quality and no doubt Bella would end up enjoying the party.
“Esme,” he said, his voice smooth and quiet as he picked up the wrapped envelope containing the plane tickets to Jacksonville. His honey coloured eyes found his wife and he smiled at her. “You look beautiful.” He held out the envelope to her, knowing that she would get more enjoyment out of giving the gift than he – he was happy to watch the proceedings. He loved to watch and be a part of anything that his entire family was involved in, and now that Emmett and Rosalie were back from Africa and now that Bella was a part of their extended family, it was all the better. “Ready to go see what Alice has done to our home?”

The long day of birthday stress, mostly brought about by knowing what Alice was like when it came to throwing a party, had put Bella into an increasingly foul mood. She knew that she was being selfish in a way, but she couldn't help it. A chilled feeling assaulted her stomach every time she thought of being 18, already a whole year older than her eternally 17-year-old boyfriend. She suppressed a shiver and wrapped her arms sullenly around herself.
"Fine, I'll behave," she said, her tone more clipped than Edward really deserved, having tried to be nice to her all day. Still it shocked her when he brought up things like that. Although she had to think about his different nature every day, being careful not to be too close for too long, expecting not to see him on sunny days at school, keeping his secret safe, she really never thought about the subtle nuances of being a vampire. She supposed that time really didn't mean that much to them seen as they never changed, but to her she was aging every minute. It all seemed like a waste of time.
Thinking about it that way, Bella's bad mood shifted a little, not wanting to make this an awkward night for Edward, even if she would feel funny having a family of immortals celebrating her endless march towards old age and natural death. She smiled back at her boyfriend and turned a little more to face him, making her body language more open towards him. "We'll have to see about that," she commented, biting her lip nervously.

"I bet you say that to all the vampire girls," Esme jested in regard to his compliment to her. She brought her face up toward her husband's ethereally handsome face and her ocher eyes they danced with amusement as she patted his arm. "Oh, I think the better question would be what hasn't Alice done to our home. I haven't seen the finished product but I do know that the theme is 'Lots of Pink'."
Shaking her head with a small chuckle, she slipped her arm through Carlisle and allowed him to lead the way.
"I just hope Bella can handle this and knows Alice means well when she goes a little overboard. Then again, we so very rarely have occasions like this to celebrate these kinds of milestones. We might be more into this than Bella."

"You really did your best didn't you" Jasper said to Alice. "I think you'll scare Bella with this, but it's a nice thing of you to do'. He bended over to the tiny Alice to hug her. "Well, I will feel her mood, and make her feel relaxed when necessary" He smiled.
Jasper looked around the pink decorated room. He chuckled and looked at Alice, while she replaced the presents. "This is gonna be a big surprise" He mumbled to himself. "I wonder how Bella feels, when she sees this".
