The crisp, white snow remained silent under Tanya's light footsteps as she strolled slowly down the bustling market street. She was back in her country, and let her ears indulge in the local dialect as they tried to entice her their products on the sidestreets. The sun was low and mostly hidden and the wind was bitter against the skin of the humans haggling their purchases with the vendors. But these things did not preoccupy Tanya too much. Being unaffected by the harsh weather of the slums of Moscow, it was Tanya's throat was what captivated the bulk of her concentration. While she had been a practicing vegetarian for a very long time, she did not spend too much time with humans as company. Walking through a crowded street such as this one commanded her control and concentration. Her companion, however, appeared to be more at ease as he walked beside her, glancing thoughtfully at the vendors on each side. Edward Cullen.
The Cullens had stopped by Alaska for a visit, as they did most of the time in between their relocations. To their delight, they said that they were actually going to a place called Forks, Washington, and Tanya remembered that it was one of their favorite places to be. They had all dived into their plans, happy to be of use and excited that their cousins were going to live in a place they were fond of, and that was so close to them. Tanya, herself, was always excited to see her cousins, with Edward as a notable favorite. She sighed happily as they walked leisurely, still not finding anything worth their time. She knew Edward did not return the feelings she had for him, but she couldn't help that she was always in best spirits around him. He was beautiful, incredibly intelligent and talented. In her centuries of existence, Tanya had not found his equal. Despite his disinterest, she had innocently offered her company when some of the Cullens had split up to several locations in search of items Esme was asking for to decorate their new home. Esme had exquisite taste, and Tanya was eager for her approval.
"There are still a few more miles of market," she told her companion confidently. She had told him that central Moscow would certainly have items of price, but not necessarily of taste. Some of the handmade carvings and creations of the hardworking were more valuable than the gaudy pieces that only sold by name and not by craftsmanship.
Tanya's fists tensed as a human walked across them, sending a breeze of sweet temptation their way. She blinked her topaz eyes and swallowed venom, but her stride never faltered. The struggle was in her mind, and she internally shrinked, embarassed that the only person who would be able to sense her dangerous and deplorable reaction to the sweet blood was striding right next to her. She rearranged her thoughts once more, and continued scanning the crowd, still in search for something worthy of the lovely Esme's home. Only Edward would enjoy shopping like this. Another man would have wanted to explore the seedier corners of the City and leave the shopping to the last minute before turning out with no results. But as always, Edward had proven to be a pleasant companion in all things. It didn't surprise her, and only deepened her attraction to him.

Edward wasn’t sure if it was his age, being from a different time period where men were different, or Esme and Alice’s influence on him over the years, but unlike most males (of any species), Edward didn’t mind shopping. He kind of enjoyed it in fact, finding unique little trinkets to bring home and make their home unique and truly theirs.
He had traveled with Tanya to Moscow to look for new things that they could bring to their next location. Forks Washington. A favorite home of his family’s that he was glad to get back to. He wondered how the Quileute tribe would be with their return. It was the one thing that made Edward a little wary. What if the treaty had not been passed down to the chief’s children as was promised? What if they discovered them again and this time wouldn’t stay to listen. He also wondered if they’d have a problem with the fact that their family had grown since the last time they were in Forks. Alice and Jasper were with them now. He was sure Alice would love Forks, but Jasper was a risk. He was still tempted by humans more than the rest of them, and they couldn’t risk a slip in Forks. If the Quileutes found out, they’d have to flee.
Now he walked beside Tanya at a casual pace as they walked through the streets glancing over at the vendors trying to find the perfect objects to bring back. He knew that Tanya had feelings for him. Part of the reason he had accepted her company on this trip was to get to spend some time with her alone. He wondered if with time, he could develop feelings for her as well. He knew his family would be happier if he picked a mate, and it would make his cousins thrilled as well. He was always the single one and he knew it brought down the rest of his family. They still accepted him of course, but he felt less and less like he fit in the more he watched them all happily paired off. Nights were the hardest when he was left alone. Sure he had plenty of time to read all the books in the study, but was that really what the rest of his days would be filled with?
Edward nodded as Tanya mentioned that there were a few more miles of market. “Its an excellent selection here” He told her, knowing it was her hometown and wanting to be respectful of any pride she had in it. “And it’s a beautiful city”
Edward picked up the scent of the human who had crossed too closely as the breeze picked up. He glanced over at Tanya seeing her body tense in response. The venom was trickling in his own throat, but it was a feeling he had grown used to. His family emmersed themselves in life among humans, attending school everyday. Tanya’s family didn’t have quite as close contact with humans, but he knew her resolve to stay vegetarian was just as pure. “Are you sure this isn’t too much for you? There are a lot of people here” He asked her, looking out for her own feelings.

It was so like Edward to show appreciation for the unique features a bustling city could offer. Of course, Tanya took a special interest in this one, since it was where her human self had come from. After resolving to abstain from human blood, she had returned here to gather as much information about herself as she could, ingrain them in her new memories, since the old ones were blurry and confusing. She became its citizen once more, and was glad that Edward approved of it.
The human that had set her throat on fire laughed at the person they were meeting, as if he were ridiculing Tanya's weakness. Tanya had taken control of her reaction, but had held her breath as an extra precaution until she felt she could handle it again. Just as her mind had reorganized itself and sent the thirst down a few notches on the list of things that were simultaneously preoccupying her mind, another surge of guilt and mortification washed over her thoughts when Edward had to ask her if she was ok. Her head dipped down as she shook it lightly, her curls bouncing to the movement. "No I'm ok, thank you," she answered lowly. "Just a bit out of practice... he caught me by surprise." She remembered preparing herself earlier that day, making sure that she would be fine. Otherwise, she would have never stepped into such a large crowd without being confident that she could control herself. If Tanya still had human habits, she would have sighed in disappointment. As it was, her mind and thoughts were already loud and clear to her companion.
