{One year post B.D...Tag Sam} Emily took a deep breath and walked calmly out of the bathroom. The test had read positive. The smile tickled at the tips of her lips and she looked down at her stomach that had a barley there budge. It was the only reason besides the sudden mood swings that she felt the urge to take the test in the first place. She silently wondered how far along she was and if Sam had at all noticed the bit of weight that she had put on in the last couple months. She ran her fingers gently across her stomach before shoving them into her jeans pocket.
“Oh Hi Honey!” she exclaimed as she practically skipped to him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. He was tall, but he seemed to have learned to crouch a little more when in her height restricted presence. She smiled into his shoulder but couldn’t help but notice the sense of unhappiness that seemed to ripple through him. He wasn’t angry, at least she didn’t think so, he shook when he was angry.
Emily pulled back, and untwined her arms from around his large frame. She looked up, searching his eyes for an explanation for the weird feeling. She couldn’t describe it, but when he was upset she could almost feel it. Quil and Embry leaving the pack had happened, and life had to go on. She understood how cheated he felt, but it was no excuse to be grouchy over things that wouldn’t change.
Emily rolled her eyes, something uncharacteristic of herself and sighed before turning to walk away. “Just get over it,” she grumbled under her breath. Emily was usually quiet, smiling, and sweet, but recently she couldn’t hold back frustration when it attacked.

It was never the easiest thing in the world becoming pack leader. He’d never asked for the job or all the stress and aggravation that went with it. Nor had he asked for the pain. The pain of losing one pack member after another to a rival pack; a rival pack ran by someone who used to be his friend. The idea never sat right with Sam. He could understand Jacob leaving and even Seth following him; he was young and impressionable. He accepted Leah’s crossover because she was just waiting for a wait to ditch him; she’s never got over the whole imprinting thing. The one person he couldn’t settle with was Quil’s loss. She was a friend, heck he was almost family since he imprinted on Claire. When he left to join Jacob Sam saw it as a personal blow. It still hurt, never more so when he saw the young former pack member as he had earlier that day. Quil had been with the other turn coat Embry, the pair we’re like peas in a pod; where one went the other was sure to follow.
He was home now. Time to relax and enjoy Emily’s company, but he hadn’t wound down let and her touch as she hugged him didn’t have the instant calming effect it normally did.
Emily seemed different too him. Nothing physical, no, it was her attitude. She’s rolled her eyes at his attitude and the words she used were so out of character for her that Sam couldn’t help the smile. Maybe it was a new tactic to get round his ever increasing bad moods relating to the pack.
He had to know what was wrong with her. He followed her a little ways before reaching his large hand out for her tiny shoulder, careful not to hurt her.
“Get over it?” He asked with a smile, “That’s a new one. You’re listening too much to Rayen or the other bad influences around here.” He meant it as a joke, a smart remark all said with a simple, small smile.

Emily felt Sam’s large hot hand on her shoulder and made a face. She stopped in her tracks wondering how on earth she was going to tell him. A frightening thought crossed her mind. He was already stressed, what if he didn’t want it. Her hand glided over her stomach before running through her jet black hair. It glistened in the yellow light that filled the home. Emily hated the darkness, which meant if you watched the windows from outside you could watch her travel through the house. Turning on lights, and shutting them off behind her.
She turned around slowly only to meet him with a smile on his face, a smile that she hadn’t seen there in awhile. She laughed and glanced toward the floor. “I’m sorry,” she said before looking back up at his perfect features. She took a deep breath and continued. “I’ve been a little moody,” Emily admitted with a gentle smile.
“How much do you like Claire?” she asked him awkwardly. Now that she thought about it, she wasn’t even sure he liked kids at all. Claire was her one and only niece, he was kind of forced into the whole Uncle thing. Would he feel forced into a mini Sam thing. The thought that he possibly could made her stomach flip, she was suddenly feeling nauseous again.

The question seemed a little out of place and strange. For a moment Sam ran over the reasons why Emily would ask about Claire. Was she coming to stay? Was Rayen sick? In need of a break from the little monster?
Sam smiled at Emily, whatever the reason Claire was welcome here. He loved her and loved having her visit and sleep over. Sam would never push the idea but he’s love to be a dad himself with Emily. He knew though that Emily was helping out so much with Rayen and Claire, like she always had, that starting a family of their own would have to wait a while.
“I love Claire.” He smiled at her. “What’s all this about Em? Is Rayen sick?”
His voice flooded with concern that something might happen to his sister in law. Sam knew it would kill Emily if anything happened to Rayen; they were so close and shared everything. Again he reached out for her shoulder again to pull her too him.

Emily smiled instantly. He hadn’t even hesitated in his response about their niece. Her eyes filled with tears of joy, but she blinked them back. She wouldn’t ruin the moment. She shook her head, the smile still lingering. She looked to her stomach than back up to his eyes. He couldn’t be any more perfect, “she’s not sick,” she said just above a whisper. Emily bit her bottom lip, she hadn’t had the chance to think it all through. To think of a clever way to tell him.
Without a word Emily took Sam’s large hot hand into her own. She brought it up to her hips and kissed the back of it gently. She looked into his eyes as she moved his hand down, placing his palm against her stomach. She giggled, wondering if he would get the hint.
“The pitter patter of little feet, will soon be the sound of our own, little one” she smiled from ear to ear, a single happy tear falling from her eye. “I just took the test, it was positive baby,” she laughed, “I’m pregnant!”

The tears in her eyes were clearly visible to him and Sam instantly worried again about Rayen and Claire, perhaps it was bad. The kiss on his hand and her words that everything was alright relaxed Sam in a way only Emily could. His love for her was all encompassing, all consuming and to see her in any pain would cause him great pain too.
When she placed his hand on her stomach nothing truly sank into his mind. Sam wasn’t the quickest on the uptake of subtle things. Sam stared at her, willing her to explain and be clearer.
The next words she spoke couldn’t have been clearer, but still they took a few minutes to settle in.
A baby? His baby? Their baby! He a daddy and Emily someone’s mom. No words could have caused more feelings in a man so unused to admitting his feelings. Right there and then in a fraction of a second Sam felt it all; worry, happiness, fear, anger, relief, hope and an immense sense of hope and love for Emily and their growing baby.
The next few seconds instinct and love took over. Sam scooped Emily in to his arms hugging her fiercely but carefully as he swung her round in his arms. His lipps kissed every available point on her face. And his eyes tried to take in and store every moment of this memory.
After a few minutes he set Emily back down but kept her close to him, his large arms encircling her waist. Looking straight into her eyes he spoke slowly, his voice carrying all his emotion and a large smile covering his face.
“Emily. I love you. I’m so happy and so amazed.” Leaning in he kissed her again then knelt in front of her. It was same pose he had taken not too long ago to ask her to be his wife. Now in a moment not clouded by his role as pack leader or any embarrassment he lent towards her tummy. “I’m your daddy.” He said simply then panted a simple kiss on her covered tummy just above the waist of her jeans.
It was a natural and unnatural move for Sam. No one else would ever believe the gentleness and love that move had shown him capable of; but nor would anyone else see it but Emily.

Emily giggled when he took her into his warm arms. His reaction to such a vital thing couldn’t have been any better. They were going to have a baby, a family of their own, a friend and cousin for little Claire. The kisses he planted all over her made her smile brighten even more, her cheeks beginning to hurt from the smile that wouldn‘t fade. She let out a laugh as a single happy tear rolled down her cheek.
“Me too,” she whispered, and wiped away the saline droplet. She watched him get down on one knee and it sent a gust of memory through her mind. The last time he’d taken that position was years ago, and Emily immediately looked to her wedding ring. She heard the words as he said them, but they didn’t seem reality. The slight bump that was her stomach now contained a living, slowly growing child. A soon to be baby Uley.
Emily ran her fingers over Sam’s hand and across his cheek. “I think he…or maybe she,” Emily laughed, “should have your name,” she offered. “Samantha, Samson, Samuel,” she began citing off names. She truly didn’t care as long as she had a little Sam running around. He was her everything and this child would be an extension of that.
She watched him, imagining what the baby would bring to their home. She hoped silently that the young addition could possibly calm his frustrations with the pack, the Cullen’s and all else.

Towering over her again as he stood Sam looked down at Emily in loving marvel. He was so happy and in love he honestly believed he could burst. Resisting the urge to scoop her up again he contented himself with reach down for her hand. “Have you told Rayen? She’ll be so happy and excited.” He said. Knowing how close the sisters were he wouldn’t have been upset if she had told her sister first he knew they shared everything including secrets he would never know.
As Emily listed off names for the little child Sam smiled with delight that each name contained his own, but he wanted it to have a little of her too. “A girl? We could name her Emma, a boy…I’ll have to think about.” He smiled again. “You need to see a doctor and check everything out. I’m taking no chances with the two of you.” He said sternly as the alpha tone and caring would be father blended in his voice.

Emily allowed her eyes to follow her husband as he stood on his feet again, his towering figure looming over her. Despite his rather large size, and intimidating height she only felt love and joy when she looked into his brown eyes. It was a place that she could often loose herself, that was when he actually was in moods like these. Ever since the showdown a few years ago, and then the abandonment of a handful of his pack he’d seemed a little more stressed. A little more taken by the life of wolves.
She shook her head a bright smile gracing her features. “No, not yet you’re the first to know,” she admitted and immediately looked down to her stomach again, resting her palm on the small bump she had confused as being some extra weight she’d put on. Now it all made sense.
Emily giggled as he suggested a girls name, but nudged him when he said he’d need to think about the boys. She only laughed when he became more stern, now he’d have to be protective over two people. Or at least one and a half. “I know I know, I’ll call the doctor first thing in the morning. Would you want to come with? Or should I just drag Ray along?” she said with a smile, taking his large hand in hers and swinging it lightly.

A baby, his own child; Sam had never let the thoughts of children cross his mind. He had Emily and a beautiful niece he didn’t dare jinx all that by wishing or hoping for more. He smiled down at Emily glancing between her and the bump that held their child. From now on he told himself he wouldn’t let the worries of the pack and life outside his family consume him as it had in the past.
“No, no I’ll come with you. I’m the father and its time I start acting like it.” He told her. Sure Ray would be involved, but it was important for him to be there with Emily for the first doctor’s appointment. “You need to tell Ray though, she’ll be so happy. And Claire will too.” Same smiled as he thought over his family and how it would soon be growing.
“Why don’t you go sit? Can I get you anything?” Sam asked his voice stern and filled with concern. “You need to take it easier now, Em.”

Emily couldn’t take her attention away from the small, slowly forming bump in her midsection and the joy that she could feel emanating from Sam. The smiles and great reaction she’d received from him only made her that much more happy. That much more excited for the two of them, she could only imagine Rayens reaction. Most likely girly squealing and talk of being an aunt. The smile already on Emily’s lips, grew.
She nodded in response to the realization he seemed to be coming to. “I know,” Emily giggled. “She’s gonna’ flip, and Claire will finally have a cousin!” she exclaimed, and immediately wrapped her arms around him. Letting her fingers rest on the nape of his neck.
“Take it easy?” The woman asked with a laugh. “I’m pregnant,” she said into his ear before pulling away. “Not sick,” she smiled still, and shook her head lightly. Always the worry wart. “You stress enough for a family of five, why don’t you lie down, get some rest,” she said pushing him softly with her hands on his chest. The heat could be felt through his shirt, it was always welcoming. “I’ll make you a bite to eat,” Emily grinned as she directed his body towards the couch. She gave a little shove, and turned on her heels practically bouncing, “Soup okay?” she called over her shoulder as she neared the dining room, through which she could get to the kitchen.

It was true, Rayen and Claire would be ecstatic at their news the girlie screams what would follow the announcement was an event Sam wasn’t sure he wanted to be present at. Claire would finally have a little play mate, if the cousin would be younger then she; it all made Sam smile. Emily’s arms around him, her changing body pressing in to his and her fingers in the hair at the nape of his neck all added to the smile and excitement on his face.
He wanted to protect her, to take care of her and their growing child; so he was a little over zealous. “I just want you to relax and rest.” Sam nodded and laughed as she pushed him towards the sofa. Crossing the room Sam sat onto the sofa and rested his head in his hands; “I’m going to be a dad.” He said to himself with an awestruck smile and sigh. Flopping back Sam let his head loll back and closed his eyes.
“Sure, soup is fine.” Sam called out as he watched visions of children run through his head. The smile dropped form his face as one morphed into a wolf, could he put his child through the life he was living? Even with all the good stuff, he wasn’t sure he could let his child face the life of a wolf. Was it a certainty? Was it for sure? Sam pushed the thought from his head and pulled back the sight of his Emily, he watched the image change, her stomach swell; this was the happiest news of his life.

Emily couldn’t get the ecstatic grin off of her face. She wanted to call her sister right away, and squeal into the phone the great news she was suppressing. She could only imagine her sisters reaction, what she pictured as being a squealy happy mess celebrated by phone between the two of them. She instantly imagined Claire holding a tiny baby boy in her hands so carefully you’d have thought a simple movement would break the fragile infant. She had to wonder why she pictured the child being a boy, maybe because she knew Sam would love a son, just as every Dad would.
The young woman laughed gently, her fingers trailing over the frame of the door to the kitchen. Her eyes fell upon the man she’d fallen in love with years ago. Life couldn’t get better, not at this point. She slipped into the kitchen and with a large plastic ladle began pouring the contents of the chicken and vegetable soup into a large bowl. The contents managed to fill the giant pot that sat upon the stove like come sort of silvery cauldron. Werewolves sure knew how to eat, so if she wanted any left for herself she always had to triple or quadruple the recipe.

Been caught up in happiness was a new feeling for Sam, especially considering the last 18 months, but he wasn’t going to let himself dwell on the negatives. Pulling himself up he followed Emily through the door she’d just exited through. She was beautiful, glowing he knew he should call it. Watching her at the stove his face broke out in a smile watching her cook for him. “You feeding the whole pack?” he asked as he crossed the kitchen and stopped behind her slipping his big arms around her still small frame and pulling her to him gently. He kissed her hair and inhaled deeply relaxing again at the familiar scent that was her.
“You should go give Ray a call, she’ll want to know and I know you want to share the news.” He said letting the smile on his face spill over into his voice, he knew Emily and her sister were close so he was happy to share their news. “Claire will be even more excited then us all.” He laughed thinking of his little niece and her bursting energy.

Emily grinned, she could sense him near though she intended on serving him. It was like she as well shared elevated senses when it came to Sam. She could feel him in a way she felt no one else. She wondered if she would feel the little more if as much. Emily looked to her tummy, she sure hoped so. “I could be,” she laughed, “can never be too prepared,” she said with a smile as she filled the bowl with the heated soupy contents.
She let out a soft sigh as he pulled her close and kissed her hair. Being in his arms was like being lost in a dream, she didn’t want him to let go. It was the first time she could feel him truly alive, happy…care free in what seemed to be ages. It was a welcome change. She turned her good side in his direction and grinned. “Is it that easy to see I want to?” she asked before planting a kiss on his lips. “Claire,” Emily said with a smile on her lips, and joy in her heart. Nothing could dampen the feeling in the room.
She placed the top pack on the pot and placed a spoon in Sam’s bowl of hot soup. She turned around in his arms and looked at him for a long moment, as if searching his eyes before the question was even asked. “I think we should let everyone know, maybe have a small party w-with Jacob and the others too.” She said, her look didn’t waver…she needed to know this moment meant more than the silent feud. And an addition to the Quilieuttes was an addition to more than just Sam’s pack. After all in the end, they were all of one tribe.
