Basic Personality: Aro normally carries himself in a cheery disposition and has shown to be polite to the point of being at complete ease with even the most objectionable of situations. However, beneath this facade of optimistic giddiness, he is power-hungry and highly manipulative. He holds power over everything and is willing to go to any length to secure his status, even if it means killing those he loves, as exemplified when he murdered his sister Didyme in order to keep Marcus in the Volturi. He has shown himself to be an avid collector of talented vampires that he finds desirable to recruit for the Volturi guard especially his personal guard, Renata, and Jane. He deeply believes that the Volturi is necessary for the survival of the vampire species, with its bylaws that hold secrecy of the existence of vampires to the utmost importance. Due to humanity's continuously advancing technological prowess to the point where there are already weapons in existence that can kill vampires, he speculates that it is only a matter of time before they create more devastating constructs that may be able to wipe out the entirety of vampire-kind on Earth.
Species: Vampire

Occupation: Volturi leader

History
Birthplace: England, during the Middle Bronze Age
Family: Sulpicia (wife)
Didyme (deceased sister)
Marcus (brother-in-law)
Friends: Marcus, Caius, Volturi members (past and present)
History: Approximately a decade after having been transformed into a vampire, Aro changed his sister Didyme, with hope that she would possess an ability akin to his. However, she was blessed with an ability not as useful to him; the power to make people happy. Aro's colleague Marcus fell in love with her, and she with him. However, Marcus and Didyme eventually became discontent being involved with Aro's rising organization, the Volturi. In order to prevent their leaving, Aro killed Didyme: Marcus was too integral to his plans to lose. Marcus never found out what Aro did, and Aro then had Chelsea use her ability to ensure Marcus remained loyal to the Volturi.
By 500 AD, the Volturi had usurped control of the vampiric world from the Romanian Coven. Aro ruled the Volturi, along with Marcus and Caius, although he generally acted as its spokesperson. The Volturi, under the three ancients' leadership, set down the laws of the vampire world and severely punished those who did not adhere to them.
Carlisle Cullen came to live with the Volturi for some time, and became close friends with Aro. However, Aro was alarmed at Carlisle's preference of "vegetarianism", and believed that this would only weaken him over time. Carlisle eventually left to find other vampires like himself.
At one point, Edward Cullen, one of Carlisle's adopted children, came to the Volturi. Edward was deeply depressed because he believed his love, Bella Swan, had committed suicide, and as such was himself suicidal. Aro was interested in Edward’s ability to read minds from a distance, and tried to recruit him to join the Volturi instead, saying it would be a waste to kill him. He later met Bella, after she and Alice prevented Edward's suicide attempt. He was both surprised and intrigued in Bella's ability to block Edward's powers, and even more intrigued when she resisted his and Jane's powers. He allowed Edward to take Bella back to Forks only after Alice showed him in a vision that Bella would eventually be transformed into a vampire.
When an army of newborns began to run rampant in Seattle, Aro sent Jane, Felix, Demetri, and two other vampires to "deal with the newborns". In fact, Edward noted that by delaying his company, Aro may want to let the newborns decrease the Cullens' numbers.
Before Bella was transformed, she received a necklace from Aro, supposedly from the English crown jewels. Alice had mailed the Volturi an announcement for Bella and Edward's wedding, and Aro in return sent Bella the necklace as a wedding gift. It was extremely large and ostentatious.
Sometime later, Irina, a vampire from the Denali Coven, came to Volterra to inform the Volturi that the Cullens had created an Immortal Child. In response to this breach of their laws, the Volturi gathered the entire guard together (including the wives) and set out for Forks to destroy the Cullens. Aro, meanwhile, intended to use the situation to try and force Edward and Alice into joining the Volturi.
When the Volturi arrived, Aro and the others were shocked to discover that the Cullens had assembled a vampiric army to oppose them, furthering Aro's belief that they'd created an immortal child. Aro proceeded in "scanning the crowd" as though searching for a certain face - most likely Alice's - however she was not there. The Volturi only stopped launching an immediate attack when they noticed the line of werewolves behind the undead army. Aro, in his usual fashion, acted as speaker for the Volturi. After reading Edward's mind and learning about Renesmee, the so-called immortal child, Aro was both astounded and delighted to discover that she is actually half human. He is also amused at the idea of having the werewolves, whom he believed were the Cullens' pets, as guard dogs. Unfortunately, the angry snarls from the wolves inform him that it would never happen.
Despite the attempts to keep the encounter from turning violent, Aro declared that Renesmee had to be killed because they weren't sure if she would become a threat. But unknown to everyone else except Edward, his attitude changed when Bella's power was revealed. Realizing Bella's mental shield rendered all the Volturi's powers useless, Aro knew they were at a huge disadvantage and started looking for a way to get out of a fight. Soon after, Alice and Jasper showed up with another vampire half-breed named Nahuel. The knowledge that there are other half-breeds in the world gave Aro the excuse he needed to leave, and he retreated with the rest of the Volturi.

There is no greater joy in Aro's existence than accruing power and collecting more members to the Volturi guard with substantial gifts that can benefit his coven. One of his many "prized possessions" Jane was always so helpful, so loyal, and not because he ordered Chelsea to assist. He believed Jane and her brother were so loyal because they felt a debt of gratitude for saving them centuries ago from being burnt at the stake in for witchcraft.
Recalling moments such as those also made Aro's day. Perhaps it was his own little ploy to boost his own ego on those days he felt a trite down. Perhaps he is simply a megalomaniac.
Sitting slightly cockeyed in the center throne in the large, domed atrium, amongst his fellow leaders Marcus and Caius -- though he was well aware it was unspoken knowledge he was readily considered the overall leader -- he leaned more onto his right side while the fingers of his left hand trilled along their side of the throne's armrest.
Before him knelt a woman who had crimson eyes their mirrored his shade and a look of sheer insanity in them; not insanity from a mental retardation, but of desperation. She was pleading and had the the ability to evoke tears, they would probably be flowing like rivers down her porcelain cheeks. Her pleading begged of a simple request; to simply be killed and put out of her misery.
"We do not make it a practice to end the lives of those like us without just cause. Just because your mate has been destroyed, it is not our responsibility to end you."
"Please, I want nothing more than to die. I have no abilities to attribute to your coven. I am not worth anything. I have no one else to continuing existing for. There is no point. Please, I beg of you. End me."
Aro sighed an unnecessary breath and look from his left to his right, sharing glances with Marcus and Caius. Neither seemed to care if this female vampire before them existed or not.
"Well," Aro began, springing up from his seat with the litheness of a cat and stepping down toward. "It would seem my friends are quite aloof where your fate in concerned. And you are quite correct; you hold nothing of value to us." Placing a hand on either side of her head, he cupped her face and smiled soothingly down at her as she looked up at him with imploring red eyes. Quite randomly he placed a kiss upon her forehead and then stood straight but held his gaze with hers. "May you find your lover wherever it is your soul ends up."
And with one quick twist, her head was ripped from her neck and resting in his hand with a small grimace of pain upon her lips. He tossed her head to the ground as he snapped his fingers for Felix and Demetri to finish off ripping the beheaded vampire apart and take her remains away to be burnt.
Turning around on the heels of his feet, he looked back toward Marcus and Caius with a smile of delight and prospect dancing from his lips as he clasped his hands together in front of his chest.
"So, what is on the agenda for the rest of this evening?"[/color]
